From Allegations Of Job Scams To Marriage Fraud: Meet “Dr” Nikitha, The Woman Behind The Complaint That Led To Custodial Death Of Temple Security Guard Ajithkumar

ajithkumar custodial death case nikitha video statement

As outrage grows over the custodial death of 27-year-old temple security guard Ajithkumar in Thirubhuvanam, attention has turned to the woman whose complaint allegedly led to the fatal police assault: Dr Nikitha, a faculty member at a government college in Dindigul. Initially assumed to be a medical doctor, it was later revealed that she was a Ph.D holder.

Ever since the news of the custodial death broke, Nikitha and her mother were absconding and untraceable – for about five days. Her name surfaced not only in the police brutality case but also in earlier complaints of misconduct, abuse of power, and alleged job-related fraud.

Academic Role Under Scrutiny

Now fresh revelations have emerged about Nikitha casting further doubt on her conduct and accountability as a public servant. Nikitha served as the Head of the Botany Department at M.E.M. Government Women’s Arts College in Dindigul. It is alleged that she has not reported to work for the past five days and is currently absconding. However, her tenure there was far from controversy-free. In 2024, a group of students from the department submitted a formal complaint to the Dindigul District Collector, accusing her of continuous verbal harassment and mental abuse. The students alleged that the toxic academic environment created by Nikitha was adversely affecting their education and well-being.

In response, the District Collector reportedly forwarded the complaint to the college administration with a recommendation for disciplinary action. However, no action appears to have been taken. Instead, Nikitha allegedly used her influence to retain her position at the institution, continuing to work at the same college despite the unresolved accusations. Sources suggest that the students’ grievances were not addressed adequately, and mental distress among them persisted.

Allegations Of Government Job Fraud

As the custodial death case was unfolding, victims of Nikitha’s accused her of orchestrating a long-running government job scam with her family. Multiple victims have come forward accusing Nikitha, her parents Sivagami and Jayaperumal (retired government officials), brother Kaviarasu, and relatives of defrauding them of lakhs – total amounting to crores – under false promises of government jobs between 2010 and 2017. Victims include retired employees, educators, and jobseekers who mortgaged assets and borrowed at interest to pay sums ranging from ₹7 to ₹80 lakhs. The family allegedly insisted on cash payments in ₹500 notes and later denied receiving them. Threats, absconding after complaints, and political name-dropping were reportedly used to silence victims. An FIR from 2011 named Nikitha and her family. Victims say this scam ruined their lives financially and emotionally, drawing parallels with the recent custodial death, which they claim follows the same pattern of manipulation and abuse.

Marriage Fraud

Thirumaran, founder of the South Indian Forward Bloc and former husband of Nikitha, accused her and her family of long-standing fraud, legal extortion, and abuse of bureaucratic influence. Speaking to the press, he alleged that Nikitha had a pattern of entering short-lived marriages, filing false dowry cases, and extorting large sums of money, claims he said applied to at least five men over two decades. He linked this pattern to the recent custodial death of Ajithkumar, asserting that Nikitha’s false complaint triggered the fatal police action. Thirumaran also alleged that Nikitha’s parents, allegedly a former DSP and Sub-Collector used their influence to shield the family from legal consequences. He called for Nikitha and her family to be treated as prime accused in the Ajithkumar case, asserting that the real root of the tragedy lies in false allegations and systemic manipulation, not merely police brutality.

The Ajithkumar Case: A Tipping Point

Ajithkumar, the 27-year-old temple security guard whose custodial torture and subsequent death came after Nikitha’s complaint over her allegedly missing jewels, was reported to have had over 50 brutal injuries, including deep wounds, head trauma, and cigarette burns—indicating prolonged torture.

Eyewitnesses had earlier alleged beatings with iron rods. Amid pressure, five police officers were arrested, a DSP suspended, and the district SP transferred. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court raised concerns about a fair state-led probe, prompting the official CBI takeover.

A video statement amid the developments by Nikitha raised further questions about her role. In the video, she recounts how Ajith helped with her mother’s wheelchair and later parked her car after she handed him the key. She narrated a sequence of events that were different from what was originally shared in the media. However, her narrative acknowledges that the key passed through multiple hands, yet only Ajith was accused and brutally assaulted. She also omitted reported details of an argument over ₹500, allegedly the trigger for the complaint. With no conclusive evidence linking Ajith to the missing jewellery, and inconsistencies in her account, public suspicion has intensified. Critics and past complainants have renewed calls for Nikitha to be named a formal accused and investigated alongside the police.

Dravidian Model: Custodial Assault Video Surfaces From Theni; 5 Officials Transferred

custodial assault theni

Even as public outrage over the custodial death of 27-year-old temple security guard Ajithkumar in Thirubhuvanam continues to simmer, another disturbing case of alleged custodial assault has emerged from Theni district.

A viral CCTV video from Devadanapatti police station shows C. Ramesh (34), an auto driver, being beaten by police personnel after being brought in for causing a public nuisance. The footage has raised fresh concerns about unchecked police excesses across Tamil Nadu.

The incident occurred on 14 January 2025, when Ramesh was taken into custody near Arisikadai bus stop in Devadanapatti following complaints from residents about his disorderly conduct. Police claimed he was drunk and causing a public disturbance. After being taken to the station, Ramesh was allegedly caned by officers. A case was later registered under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and he was released on station bail.

The video of the assault came to light through an unexpected route. A lawyer who had visited the station on the same day for an unrelated matter filed a Right to Information (RTI) request seeking CCTV footage to confirm his presence there.

A month later, when he reviewed the footage provided by the district police, it showed Ramesh being assaulted by officers inside the police station. The lawyer shared the footage online on 2 July, and it quickly went viral in the wake of the Thirubhuvanam custodial death.

Reacting to the growing controversy, Theni district police released an official statement on 2 July 2025 denying that custodial violence or harassment had occurred. The release stated, “The policemen were constrained to use force to control Ramesh as he was in an inebriated state at the time of his arrest.”

An inquiry has been initiated under the supervision of an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), and officials assured that appropriate action will follow based on the findings. Meanwhile, District Superintendent of Police R. Shiva Prasad ordered the immediate transfer of five personnel involved in the incident Inspector K. Abdulla, Special Sub-Inspector Shiva Sambu, Head Constable S. Pandian, and Constables Marichamy and Valirajan to the Armed Reserve (AR) unit, pending the outcome of the inquiry.

Complaint Filed Against ‘Digital Rights’ NGO SFLC Over Allegations of Foreign Funding And Financial Irregularities

sflc foreign funding complaint digital rights ngo

The Software Freedom Law Center, India (SFLC.in), a ‘digital rights’ organization, has come under scrutiny following a formal complaint raising concerns about its funding sources, legal operations, and involvement in politically sensitive matters.

SFLC’s office bearers, as per NGO Darpan records, include President Rahul De, and Executive Members Venkatesh Hariharan and Satish Babu.

The complaint filed by NGO watchdog, Legal Rights Protection Forum, has alleged that SFLC is not registered under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA), and yet continues to receive significant funding from foreign sources, including U.S.-based organizations. Particular concern was expressed over donations from the Open Society Institute (OSI), affiliated with the Open Society Foundations (OSF), which has previously been placed on a watchlist by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The complaint urges the MHA to initiate a detailed investigation into SFLC’s current FCRA compliance status, its foreign funding channels, and the use of those funds, particularly in activities that could influence Indian policy or public opinion.

Citing SFLC’s FY 2023-24 audit reports, the complaint notes that the organization declared ₹38 lakh in donations, with ₹28 lakh allocated as consultancy fees for 14 employees. The average compensation approximately ₹19,000 per month per employee, has raised suspicions of possible underreporting or alternative funding mechanisms. Authorities have been asked to examine SFLC’s financial records under the Income Tax Act and FCRA for potential discrepancies.

Questions have also been raised regarding Mishi Choudhary, a U.S. citizen and founder of SFLC, who has been involved in litigation in Indian courts. While she is reportedly enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi, the complainant has requested the Ministry of Law and Justice to verify her compliance with the Advocates Act, 1961, which limits the practice of law in India by foreign nationals unless duly qualified.

SFLC has participated in various legal challenges involving contentious issues such as internet shutdowns in Jammu & Kashmir, the Citizenship Amendment Act protests, and the 2020–21 farmer protests. The organization also challenged the blocking of the Briar messaging platform, a petition that was dismissed by the Delhi High Court, which cited national security concerns.

The complaint argues that SFLC’s legal and advocacy work in such matters may align with foreign policy interests and thus potentially interfere with India’s internal affairs. It has called on the MHA to assess whether these actions breach laws relating to national security and public order.

Additionally, SFLC’s involvement in commentary on the ANI v. Wikipedia case has drawn attention due to an undisclosed familial connection. Ms. Mishi Choudhary’s brother, Mr. Kabir Darshan Choudhary, is a senior counsel at the Wikimedia Foundation. The complaint has urged authorities to examine whether this connection created a conflict of interest that could compromise the integrity of legal proceedings.

The complaint requests the government to investigate SFLC’s foreign funding and compliance with FCRA and Income Tax laws; examine the eligibility of Ms. Mishi Choudhary to practice law in India under the Advocates Act; scrutinize SFLC’s activities for potential violations of laws related to national security; review SFLC’s financial statements for accuracy and legality; probe any possible conflict of interest in the organization’s public positions and legal involvement.

The complaint has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law and Justice for further action. SFLC has not yet responded publicly to the allegations.

‘Is This a Police State?’ Madras High Court Slams TN Police Over Botched Sexual Assault Probe – 5 Times Court Exposed Their Misconduct

madras high court tn police

In a strongly worded rebuke, the Madras High Court questioned the conduct of the Tamil Nadu police in a sexual assault case, asking whether the state is being governed by the rule of law or functioning as a police state. The court expressed serious concern over the police acting as though they themselves were the lawmakers, rather than abiding by the law.

The remarks came during the hearing of a case involving a 28-year-old woman from Chennai who had lodged a complaint at the Mylapore All-Women Police Station in April. In her complaint, she alleged that while working in Delhi, she had entered into a relationship with a man who, exploiting her financial vulnerability, promised to marry her. She claimed he forced her into a sexual relationship, which led to pregnancy, and later coerced her into having an abortion. She also accused him of defrauding her of ₹12 lakh.

When she discovered he was planning to marry another woman, she tried to intervene, prompting him and his mother to confront and threaten her. A case was registered against the accused under charges including sexual assault on 29 April, and the matter is currently pending before the Saidapet court.

However, the survivor filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking an order for her statement to be formally recorded before the magistrate. She raised concerns that the accused was seeking anticipatory bail and that the police had yet to document her statement. She also accused the police of intentionally delaying the process and attempting to transfer the case to Delhi. She stated that both her safety and that of the accused’s mother were at risk if proper action wasn’t taken.

When the case was heard by Justice P. Velmurugan, he summoned the 18th Metropolitan Magistrate of Saidapet, R. Parthiban, for an explanation. The judge asked why the victim’s statement had not yet been recorded.

The magistrate responded that a summons had been issued to the police, but they had returned it without executing the order.

Condemning the police’s handling of the case, Justice Velmurugan criticized their actions as deliberate obstruction, stated, “The police are making the courts complicit in their fraud. Such actions by the police force are condemnable. Why are you harassing the victim who came to record a statement? Even criminals are not subjected to this much harassment. Which law states that a statement must be recorded only in a specific Magistrate court? The police department must clarify this.”

He further lashed out, stating, “The police treat victims who come in mental distress in a disgusting manner. They refuse to act according to the law and behave with arrogance. Instead of operating by the law, the police operate on the principle that ‘what we say is the law.’ Is this a police state?”

The judge cautioned that if such misconduct by the police continues, there may come a time when the police force itself becomes irrelevant. He remarked that corruption within the department has reached an alarming level of 99.9%, and if it crosses the remaining 1%, it would amount to a “centum” in corruption. The judge noted that such actions not only place a heavy burden on the judiciary but also create significant challenges for the government. He further expressed regret that the government appears to be backing the police despite their wrongdoing. He warned that officers who behave in this manner would face dismissal, and orders to that effect would be issued.

Following this stern warning, the judge directed the police to present the victim before the Saidapet Magistrate to officially record her statement, and then closed the petition.

This isn’t the first instance where the Tamil Nadu police once praised as second only to Scotland Yard have come under judicial scrutiny. In recent times, courts have issued several warnings against their conduct. Here are some notable examples.

Case 1: Custodial Death of Ajith Kumar

On 1 July 2025, the Madras High Court’s Madurai Bench delivered strong remarks against the Tamil Nadu police over the suspected custodial killing of 27-year-old Ajith Kumar, a temple security guard from Sivaganga. The court found the government’s explanation inadequate and questioned the delay and irregularities in the investigation.

While hearing the case, the court remarked“Police drunk with power” brutally attacked Ajith Kumar, who was arrested on 27 June for the theft of temple jewellery. The bench further condemned the state’s role in the incident, stating, “The state has killed its own citizen.”

The government’s response to the incident was called “insufficient,” and the court expressed concern over procedural delays and possible attempts to obstruct a fair investigation.

Case 2: Puthiya Tamilagam Rally Ban

In January 2025, Justice P. Velmurugan questioned the intentions behind the last-minute denial of permission for a rally organized by the Puthiya Tamilagam (PT) party. The judge asked, “Is the Tamil Nadu police a government agency or a political agency?”

The query was raised during a writ petition filed by PT founder K. Krishnasamy, who accused the Greater Chennai Police of rejecting permission for a planned rally on 7 November 2024 just a day before the event.

The judge further noted, “Let the police explain why did they pass the rejection order at the last moment.”

Dr. K. Krishnasamy, PT’s founder, argued that the sudden denial resulted in inconvenience and financial loss to party members who had traveled from across the state. The police later claimed the rally was denied based on intelligence about potential law and order disruptions, but the court demanded further explanation and reserved the matter for continued hearing.

Case 3: Mishandling of Anna University Sexual Harassment Case

In December 2024, the High Court criticized the police for mishandling a high-profile sexual assault case involving a student at Anna University. A division bench initiated suo motu proceedings after reports surfaced that the survivor’s identity and personal information were leaked by law enforcement.

Bench questioned, “Advocate general P. S. Raman is saying police are investigating the case. If the matter is under investigation, how can the commissioner of police say there is a lone accused?”

The bench, comprising Justices S. M. Subramaniam and V. Lakshminarayanan, rebuked the state government for attempting to take political credit for arresting the accused while ignoring its failure to prevent the crime.

They questioned why the Police Commissioner held a press briefing during an active investigation and whether proper authorization was obtained for such a move. Bench asked, “How could the commissioner conduct a press meet? Was prior permission taken from his higher-ups for it?” The bench further observed, “How would an investigating officer, who reports to the commissioner, take a different stand in case the investigation reveals involvement of more people?” and

Justice Subramaniam also rebuked the state’s attempt to gain credit for a quick arrest, “How can you say it must be appreciated because an accused has been arrested?”

Advocate R. Varalakshmi, in her letter to the court, expressed concern that the accused had a long criminal record and possible political connections, raising doubts about the integrity of the investigation. The court also disapproved of the premature publicizing of the FIR and the exposure of the survivor’s identity.

Case 4: Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy

The devastating hooch tragedy in Kallakurichi, which claimed the lives of 68 people from marginalized communities, led the High Court to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Hearing a batch of PILs, a division bench of Justices D. Krishnakumar and P. B. Balaji ordered the CB-CID to hand over all case documents to the CBI within two weeks. The CBI was directed to investigate the matter comprehensively and submit its final report promptly.

In a separate order, Justice Balaji called the incident a grim reminder of how alcohol abuse can destroy communities. He criticized the reinstatement of a senior officer suspended after the tragedy and condemned the absence of disciplinary action against those responsible.

He further noted a disturbing link between illicit liquor manufacturers and police officials. The judge expressed concern over how the main accused, Govindaraj alias Kannukutty, continued his activities despite multiple prior cases, indicating that law enforcement had willfully ignored his operations.

Justice Balaji said, “The state was not able to demonstrate what disciplinary action has been taken against these errant officials.”

He further added, “All these leads us to believe there was an unholy connection between the manufacturers of the illicit liquor and the police officials. It also bewilders us that the prime accused Kannukutty alias Govindaraj, despite several cases booked, admittedly goes on scot-free selling the illicit arrack.”

The judge accused the police of, “turning a blind eye” to the rampant sale of illegal liquor, and criticized the CB-CID for being “misdirected” in its pursuit of suspects from Puducherry.

Case 5: ECR Land Grabbing Allegations

In August 2024, the High Court once again chastised the Tamil Nadu police, this time over allegations of their involvement in a land-grabbing case along East Coast Road (ECR). The court transferred the matter to the CBI for an impartial probe.

Justice G. Jayachandran noted the growing perception that police investigators in the state are unable or unwilling to carry out fair and effective inquiries. He warned that this erosion of public trust could drive ordinary citizens to seek protection not from the police, but from criminal elements and political intermediaries.

The case involved a complaint by T. Karthik, who alleged that his property had been unlawfully seized by a group backed by local police officers. According to his counsel, the attackers demolished structures on the land and took illegal possession, all with the support of police officials.

Justice G. Jayachandran wrote, “It is indeed painful to note that the investigation agencies in this State have repeatedly exposed their inability to investigate cases dispassionately, effectively and truly. If this sordid state of affair continues, the poor and innocent public will have no protection from the police and as a sequel, they will lose their faith in the police…They may take shelter under powerful politicians and rowdy elements.”

In scathing remarks, the court said it could not remain a silent spectator to the growing nexus between rowdy elements and law enforcement, especially in cases involving land crimes and violence.

These repeated judicial interventions paint a worrying picture of law enforcement in Tamil Nadu. Once a symbol of efficiency and integrity, the state’s police force is now under intense scrutiny from the judiciary for procedural lapses, abuse of power, and alleged political bias. The courts have made it clear, if the system does not correct itself, public trust and justice may be the ultimate casualties.

Rabid Troll “The Liver Doc” Who Claims Himself To Be A Doctor, Bullies Chess Player For His Parents Being Ayurvedic Doctors

abby philips liver doc vidit gujrathi chess player doctors day twitter x

Indian Chess Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi found himself at the center of an unusual controversy on Doctor’s Day after a post celebrating his family members, many of whom are professionals in the field of alternative medicine, drew criticism from a popular online personality known as “The Liver Doc.”

The incident began when Gujrathi, one of India’s top chess players and an Olympiad gold medalist (twice at that), posted a photo with his family on X, captioned: “Happy Doctor’s Day to my entire family.” He later clarified that his father is an Ayurvedic migraine specialist, his mother a cosmetologist, his sister a physiotherapist, and his wife holds an MD in homeopathy.

Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, a controversial figure on social media known by the handle TheLiverDoc, responded to Gujrathi’s post stating, “I’m sorry, but none of them are really doctors.”

The remark triggered a backlash, with Gujrathi hitting back:
“Your entire brand and personality is built on insulting others. While you chase retweets by tearing people down, my family quietly heals lives without needing a spotlight. They’ve helped more people than your ego can count. Stay in your lane. And for a change, try being useful.”

Philips, who describes himself as a hepatologist and claims to have over 260 peer-reviewed publications, maintained that only practitioners of modern allopathic medicine should be referred to as doctors. He further referred to Ayurveda, homeopathy, and other alternative practices as “pseudoscience” and suggested that promoting them misleads the public. He also accused Gujrathi of “normalising primitive therapies.”

In reply, he wrote, “Hello, Vidit. I am not a fan of chess, but you are an important person for our country and I did not mean to offend your family. I am sure they are good people. I was stating plain facts from a professional standpoint and I do not mince my words. You may call that ego or whatever, to console yourself, no problem. Your statement on Doctors Day claiming an Ayurveda practitioner, Homeopath, Cosmetologist and a Physiotherapist were doctors is wrong and I stand by my words. Doctors’ Day in India marks both the birth and death anniversary of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, one of India’s most revered physicians and a key figure in shaping the healthcare system. Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Cosmetology or Physiotherapy are not realistic clinical medicine or and their practitioners are not clinical physicians. Physiotherapy is a legit branch of healthcare (adjunct to clinical medicine), but the rest are just plain sham – especially Homeopathy, which is also known as N*zi Medicine because H*tler tried to integrate it with conventional medicine at the time. You got all worked up and started personally attacking me because you were ignorant of this fact. I do not need to keep an ego towards a chess GM or his family. You don’t make me insecure and your family is of no concern to me from a professional standpoint. But what you claim them to be – has major public health consequence, because someone of your stature, being ignorant about science and health affects public perception of realistic healthcare and pseudoscientific practices. Your statements normalize pseudoscience and primitive therapies as healthcare practices when they are not. They are alternative medicine. And alternative medicine is medicine that is not proven to work. Just like there is no alternative chemistry, alternative physics or alternative mathematics, alternative medicine is also not medicine. And its practitioners are not doctors. I am a certified internist with a doctorate in hepatology and liver transplant medicine with 260 peer reviewed scientific publications, 4400 citations and h-index of 30 (just for your information). You don’t know me and how useful I am to my patients and their families. I suggest you do a bit of homework before throwing such childish tantrums. I am staying in my lane and always have. Calling out medical misinformation is what I do apart from being a full-time doctor. I suggest you stay in your lane and discuss more on chess. Sorry for the checkmate. And for a change, talk about chess and try being useful. All the best for your future matches.”

In response, Gujrathi asserted that his post was a simple message of gratitude. “I made a simple post out of gratitude. I chose silence at first, because not every conversation deserves a response. But when it turned into mocking my family, I stepped in. If that means stepping out of my lane, so be it. You and trolls like you don’t get to decide who’s a doctor. You have no authority to define others lives or dismiss their work. I’ve said my part. Now, back to what actually matters. No time for noise,” he wrote.

As the exchange gained traction online, supporters of Gujrathi called out Philips’ arrogance and intolerance toward alternative medicine systems that are legally recognized under India’s AYUSH framework. Critics pointed out that AYUSH practitioners, including Ayurvedic and Homeopathic doctors, are permitted by Indian law to use the title “Doctor.”

Adding to the controversy, online users highlighted that Philips while often vocal about “myth-busting” alternative medicine, has his own share of allegations. He claimed yoga does not help lose weight, that his patients had liver failure due to “herbal medicine”. His father, Dr. Philip Augustine, was among the accused in a 2009 organ trafficking case involving Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi. Although Dr. Abby Philips has denied the allegations, calling them false and politically motivated, the case remains part of the public record, with summons issued to several doctors.

Philips has also been criticized for his repeated disparagement of Indic knowledge systems. On social media, he has labeled Ayurveda and Yoga as pseudoscience and claimed that herbal medicine leads to liver failure. He has dismissed spiritual or traditional practices such as semen retention as “unscientific,” while promoting conventional medications like paracetamol as entirely safe.

Despite his claimed credentials, critics argue that Philips exhibits a pattern of selectively targeting non-Western health systems, often linked to cultural heritage. His affiliations such as working at Rajagiri Hospital, reportedly run by a Christian missionary institution raise questions about ideological bias. Critics also argued that Philips had never once spoken about the “miracle healing” prayer meetings that happen in his faith.

In 2023, he peddled fake news by falsely claiming that the National Medical Commission (NMC) removed the Ashoka emblem from its logo and replaced it with an image of the Hindu deity Dhanwantari. He referred to the updated logo as a sign of “India’s entry into pseudoscience hell.”

However, the NMC’s officiating chairman BN Gangadhar clarified that the logo had always included Dhanwantari in black-and-white, and only a color version was added for printability. He emphasized that there was no removal of the Ashoka emblem and no significant change beyond coloring and the replacement of “India” with “Bharat.”

Philips’s claim was further debunked using archived versions of the logo from the Wayback Machine. Despite this, several leftist outlets such as South First and The News Minute amplified his false narrative.

9 Years Later, Trial Begins Against Salafi Preacher Mujahid Balussery Over Anti-Hindu Remarks, Had Said ‘Donations To Temple Worse Than Spending It At Brothels’

The trial against controversial Salafi preacher Mujahid Balussery has formally commenced, nearly nine years after a complaint was lodged over his inflammatory speeches that allegedly insulted Hindu beliefs and religious figures. The Ernakulam court, which began hearing the case this week, has directed Balussery to surrender his passport by 10 July 2025 and has barred him from leaving India until the proceedings conclude.

The complaint, originally filed in 2016 by Pratheesh Viswanath, former leader of the International Vishwa Hindu Parishad and founder of the Hindu Seva Kendra, accused Mujahid Balussery of denigrating Hindu customs, temples, and spiritual figures through his public speeches and online sermons.

One of the most cited statements by Balussery includes his remark that spending money in temples is worse than donating to brothels. He had said, “If you donate money to a Hindu temple or festival, you’re encouraging shirk, which is the gravest sin. You wouldn’t donate money to a brothel or a pub,” in a video that went viral.

He also criticized Mata Amritanandamayi Devi in derogatory terms, questioning her legitimacy as a spiritual figure. He had said, “Yesterday was Mata Amritanandamayi’s fifty-eighth birthday. Whose mother, I don’t know, whose mother she is. I don’t know. You can only become a mother if you become a wife.”

The Ernakulam Central Police registered a case under relevant sections based on Viswanath’s complaint and submitted YouTube links as evidence, including speeches where Balussery denounced practices he described as “shirk” (polytheism), targeting Hindu rituals and worship.

In earlier proceedings, the court, while considering anticipatory bail, had observed that religious figures should exercise caution in their public commentary, especially when referring to other faiths. The bench emphasized that promoting one’s beliefs should not come at the cost of denigrating another’s, and religious texts must be used to promote unity, not division.

During his deposition in court, Balussery defended his statements, asserting that, as an Islamic preacher, it was his responsibility to guide his followers on what is permissible and prohibited in Islam. The court eventually granted him conditional bail, which required him to surrender his passport and provide an undertaking not to make such statements again in the future.

Balussery had previously surrendered his passport in 2017 following court orders and was permitted to reclaim it temporarily for a foreign trip. However, with the trial now underway, the court has reinforced its directive that he must resubmit the passport and remain in India for the duration of the legal process.

The case has drawn renewed attention after Viswanath released a statement on social media, reiterating that the battle was not personal but aimed at securing justice for Hindus who felt vilified. Enough is enough….!! In 2016, a radical Muslim cleric named Mujahid Balussery dared to insult crores of Hindus by saying “donating at temples is worse than spending money in brothels” and even mocked Amma Amritanandamayi Devi. I along with @HinduSevaKendra filed a complaint at Ernakulam Central Police Station demanding action. For 9 relentless years, I fought a legal battle , not just for myself, but for every Hindu who felt humiliated. Now, justice is catching up. The court has finally begun trial proceedings and has ordered Mujahid Balussery to surrender his passport by July 10 and barred him from leaving India until the trial concludes. This is just the beginning. No one has the right to mock our faith and walk free. Until every anti Hindu bigot is held accountable, this fight will not stop.,” he wrote, vowing to continue the legal fight until full accountability is ensured.

The Kerala-based preacher had previously expressed regret over some of his remarks. In 2018, he issued an apology for comments about women, including a controversial claim that “those who wear lipstick are prostitutes.” He later admitted these statements were inappropriate and had caused widespread hurt, particularly among working women.

Despite public backlash and repeated controversies, Balussery has maintained a substantial following online and within sections of Kerala’s conservative Islamic circles. The current trial marks a significant test of legal accountability for religious hate speech and may set a precedent for similar cases going forward.

The accused, Stephen Raj, is the Secretary of the Thiruninravur unit of the Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi (VCK). His wife, Gomathi, served as the elected councillor for the 26th ward and was also the Chairperson of the Taxation Committee of the Thiruninravur Municipality. The couple had been married for over a decade and have four sons.

Tiruppur district was shaken by the suicide of Selvanandham, an AIADMK IT Wing secretary of Kundadam West Union, who reportedly ended his life after recording an emotional audio message on his phone. In the note, he accused certain DMK members of extortion and mental harassment, sparking intense political stir.

Selvanandham, apart from his role in the AIADMK’s IT unit, was involved in the maize trade, sourcing from a company based in Palani, Dindigul district. His wife, Muthu Priya, serves as the president of the Navanari Panchayat Council.

According to the audio message he left behind, Selvanandham claimed that a business dispute escalated when Manimaran, the DMK Madurai Zone in-charge, and Muthukumar, an office-bearer of the DMK’s Madurai South District Fishermen’s Association, began pressuring him for money, allegedly acting in the interest of the company. He stated that they had been harassing him continuously for two months.

He further alleged that he was coerced into meeting DMK West Union Secretary S.V. Senthilkumar in Dharapuram, where he was blackmailed into writing a letter under duress. To settle part of the alleged demands, he said he had borrowed ₹10 lakhs at interest and already paid ₹5 lakhs. However, the harassment reportedly continued.

In the voice recording, a tearful Selvanandham said, “He seems to be the DMK’s Madurai District Regional In-charge, P.T. Manimaran. He and his associate Muthukumar, the DMK’s Madurai South Fishermen’s Wing organizer, have been torturing me for the past two days… no, for the past two months. Pavithra Agencies, Pavithra Travels, based in Palani, near Thazhayuthu, called me and made me load maize. After loading the maize, last year they cheated me by demanding a huge sum of money. They took me to SVS chairman in Dharapuram, threatened me, and made me write a document. For that, I borrowed ₹10 lakh at interest and gave it to them. This year, I gave them another ₹5 lakh, whatever I could manage, and told them I’d pay the rest little by little. But they didn’t leave me alone. They continued to torture me, humiliating and degrading me. Furthermore, a person named Srinivasan from Rajavalath, of P.T. Agencies MTS Traders, who is been creating bills for vehicles that never even came to me, diverting the goods elsewhere, and now claims I owe him ₹85 lakh. Last week, he came to check the accounts and said all the vehicles that never arrived actually came to me. He’s deceiving me. He also summoned me to a place called Ottakadai on the Palladam road from Kundadam, and inside his car, he threatened me and forced me to sign two checks: one for ₹40 lakh and another for ₹45 lakh. The RC for my Om Muruga Oil Mill and Traders is in my wife’s name. They are threatening me with 420 (fraud) cases and so on. Because of all this, I’m extremely distressed and have reached a point where I feel like ending my life. Please, nobody should cheat anyone like this. After I’m gone, please don’t trouble my family. My suffering is enough. Please, nobody cheat anyone… I can’t take it anymore.” He died after allegedly consuming poison on 2 July 2025.

Kundadam Police Inspector Batra confirmed that Selvanandham had financial dealings with multiple individuals and acknowledged a transaction dispute. “As per the audio, he speaks of threats. However, no formal complaint has been filed by his wife against any DMK members. We will examine his phone as part of the investigation,” the inspector said.

The suicide of a prominent AIADMK functionary, coupled with serious accusations against DMK figures over a business conflict, has caused a major stir in Tiruppur’s political circles.

EPS Slams DMK Government Over Murders Of Minor Children In Krishnagiri And Erode

eps dmk minor children

AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami has come down heavily on the DMK government and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, criticizing the administration over the recent surge in violent crimes across Tamil Nadu. His sharp remarks come in the wake of two deeply disturbing incidents, the abduction and murder of a 13-year-old boy in Krishnagiri, and the death of a Class 12 student in Erode following a reported dispute with fellow students.

Taking to social media platform X, EPS expressed his outrage, stating, “News reports of the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old boy named Rohit in a car near Anchetti, Krishnagiri district, and the discovery of the body of Aadhitiya, a 12th-grade student from Kumulankuttai, Erode, near his school yesterday evening are shocking. It’s shameful that under @mkstalin’s regime, there is no safety for anyone, anywhere, at all times, from no one. Doesn’t it bother the puppet Chief Minister, who is supposed to manage the police force, that criminals are so fearless as to kidnap and murder a 13-year-old boy in a car? Reports indicate that Erode’s Aadhitiya died due to clashes between students. How are students developing such a violent mindset? Such incidents fundamentally show that this DMK government is a flawed administration. I urge the puppet Chief Minister to shift his focus from, ‘What photoshoot can I do today?’ to ‘How can I properly govern today?’ and also demand appropriate legal action be taken against those who committed the crimes in the aforementioned incidents.”

Background: Two Disturbing Cases Shake Tamil Nadu

Case 1: Murder of a 13-Year-Old Boy in Krishnagiri

In a heart-wrenching incident, a 13-year-old boy named Rohith was found murdered in a forest near Anchetty in Krishnagiri district on 3 July 2025, a day after he went missing. The discovery triggered widespread protests by family members and local residents, who accused the police of negligence.

Rohith, a Class 8 student from Mavanatti village, had gone out to play with friends on 2 July. During that time, he was seen with two young men, both aged 21, one from his village and the other from a nearby locality. He was later taken in a car, and according to police, the suspects drove him around for several hours before smothering him to death.

Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai stated that the accused were still under investigation but had initially claimed they killed Rohith because he allegedly threatened to expose one of them for speaking with a girl from the village. The police were led to the body through CCTV evidence and the suspects’ confessions, locating it in the Thiruottu Keezhpallam forest area.

Earlier that morning, the boy’s family staged a road blockade, demanding urgent police action. They claimed they had informed authorities by 8 p.m. the previous night and that Rohith’s life might have been saved had swift steps been taken. During the protest, the two suspects were already in police custody but denied knowledge of the child’s whereabouts. The situation escalated until the body was finally taken for a post-mortem at Krishnagiri Government Medical College Hospital.

Case 2: Class 12 Student Killed by Schoolmates in Erode

In a separate but equally disturbing case, two 17-year-old Class 12 students from a government school in Kumalankuttai, Erode, were arrested for allegedly murdering their classmate, S. Aadhitiya.

Aadhitiya, who lived in Selvam Nagar, was found unconscious on a street near the school around 4:30 p.m. on 2 July. Although he left for school that morning in uniform, he was discovered in casual clothes. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

His parents, G. Siva and Sathya, raised concerns over the school’s failure to notify them of their son’s absence during the day. They also alleged that a group of four students and three outsiders had assaulted Aadhitiya, and demanded that not only the perpetrators but also their parents be arrested.

Emotions ran high at the Erode North Police Station, where the victim’s family had a heated exchange with Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Muthukumaran. The police assured them that appropriate action would be taken following a formal complaint and pending the results of the post-mortem, which was carried out at the Government Erode Medical College Hospital in Perundurai.

In a statement to the police, Aadhitiya’s father revealed that his son had previously mentioned being warned by two classmates not to interact with girls from their class. He also said that a local resident had alerted him about his son being assaulted.

Following investigations, police registered a case under Sections 103 (murder) and 296(b) (use of obscene language in public) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Two students have since been taken into custody.

“This Has Happened In All Regimes”: DMK Druglord Jaffer Sadiq’s Bestie Ameer Sultan Whitewashes/Normalizes Ajithkumar Custodial Death To Deflect Blame From Stalin Govt

Tamil film director Ameer has sparked debate with his comments on the Thirubhuvanam custodial death case, appearing to normalize such deaths by drawing comparisons with police brutality incidents around the world. Speaking to the press after attending a special screening of the film Good Day in Chennai, Ameer offered a broad commentary on the systemic nature of custodial violence, suggesting it is neither new nor unique to Tamil Nadu or India.

Director Ameer Sultan, a long-time associate of accused drug trafficker Jaffer Sadiq, was named the 12th accused in the ED’s chargesheet for laundering black money through films. Ever since the link was established, Ameer has been seen pandering to the ruling DMK. He does it once again in the Ajithkumar custodial death case where he is seen normalising such deaths.

Referring to the death of Ajith Kumar in police custody in Thiruppuvanam, Ameer said the incident has served as a lesson to police personnel that blindly following orders from superiors could place their own lives and careers at risk. He stated that the lower-level officers now facing arrest are “trapped,” while those who issued the orders have “escaped.”

In a broader reflection on police behavior, Ameer remarked that the police are rarely aligned with the public and more often serve the interests of those in power.

“I have said hundreds of times that the police are not entirely on the side of the people. They are on the side of power. They are on the side of the rich. That is how history has been. Somewhere, in one or two situations, one or two people will be afraid of their conscience and side with the people. That is how it is. But generally, whoever they are bound to, they will be bound to the officers above them. If this special force comes and enters and beats them, then they will not beat anyone who just walks by. Someone must have given them instructions. Who is he? This Thirubhuvanam case has made those policemen realize that even if the officer says to beat them, their lives will be lost. Now they have escaped, you are trapped. Then this happened in this regime, this happened in that regime, it’s not like that. This has happened in all regimes,” he said.

In a particularly controversial comparison, Ameer referenced the death of George Floyd in the United States, where a white police officer killed a Black man during an arrest. He suggested that such incidents reflect the global reality of police power dynamics. “This has happened in all regimes. It has happened all over the world. Didn’t you see in America that a black youth came, and a white policeman pressed his knee to his neck and killed him? Does that power exist or not? They say it is the power of the people. I don’t think that it should happen here too. I don’t think so, but that is the system. Is it my wish or dream that two deaths must occur in the police station and lock up every day? That is how it is. If you say this occurred in this regime and the previous one was better, or if you think that because it happened in this regime and if there is a change of government because of what happened in this regime, it will not happen, it is completely political.”
