“Bound By Article 144, TN Police Must Act On Ponmudy’s Remarks”: Justice Anand Venkatesh In DMK Min Ponmudy Hate Speech Against Hindus Case

The Madras High Court on Wednesday (23 April 2025) directed its Registry to take up a suo motu writ petition against Tamil Nadu Forest Minister K. Ponmudy over a derogatory speech allegedly targeting Saivites, Vaishnavites, and women. The court ordered that the matter be placed before Chief Justice K.R. Shriram for appropriate orders.

Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, who issued the direction, observed that the Minister had “prima facie misused the liberty granted to him by the Supreme Court”, which had stayed his conviction and sentence in a corruption case, allowing him to remain in office.

“He owes his position as a Minister and enjoys the liberty by virtue of interim orders passed by the Supreme Court but has misused the liberty by making this highly derogatory speech,” the judge said.

The speech, a video clip of which has been circulating on social media, is alleged to have equated the pattai (a horizontal forehead mark worn by Saivites) and tiruman (a vertical forehead mark worn by Vaishnavites) to descriptions of sexual postures by a sex worker. Justice Venkatesh noted: “Prima facie, it is evident that the video demeaned the moral worth of sex workers particularly women and was calculated to subvert the harmony and peace among religious groups and various sects. Apart from being obscene, the speech also undoubtedly wounds the religious feelings of the Saivites and Vaishnavites and was aimed at insulting the Hindu religion and religious feelings of these groups.”

The judge expressed concern over the police’s inaction despite receiving at least three complaints in Chennai and Madurai. “The continued inaction and hesitation of the police in registering a FIR against the Minister is most distressing and unfortunate,” he said.

Justice Venkatesh reminded authorities of the Supreme Court’s 2014 judgment on hate speech and said it was imperative that law enforcement agencies act swiftly in such matters. He stressed that High Courts had a duty to ensure compliance with Supreme Court directions. “In matters concerning hate speech, there can be zero tolerance,” he stated, invoking Article 144 of the Constitution, which mandates all authorities to act in aid of the Supreme Court. “The Tamil Nadu police department is no exception to the constitutional position.”

Senior counsel P. Wilson, representing the State, submitted that the police had examined the complaints but did not find any offence made out. He added that a single judge and a Division Bench of the Madurai Bench had previously dismissed writ petitions related to the same issue. Wilson also questioned the source of the video clip that reached the judge and remarked, “These Sanghis are very popular in prejudicing the mind of the court.”

Senior advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for Ponmudy, told the court that the controversial speech was delivered at a closed-door meeting organised by the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam. He claimed that the Minister had only repeated what had been said decades ago and had issued an apology only in reference to a truncated portion of the speech that was being circulated online.

The matter arose during the hearing of a suo motu revision petition taken up in 2023 by Justice Venkatesh against Ponmudy’s acquittal in another corruption case. The revision petition has now been adjourned to June 2025.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK has demanded that Ponmudy be removed from the Cabinet, citing the content of his speech and the lack of police action as grounds for immediate dismissal.

Supreme Court Wakes Up After 207 Days, Admits Error In DMK Min Senthil Balaji Bail Case, Says Reappointment As Minister Was Overlooked; Asks Him To Resign In A Week

supreme court senthil balaji dmk

The Supreme Court on 23 April 2025 acknowledged that it made a mistake in granting bail to Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji in a money laundering case, stating that the decision was based on the incorrect assumption that he was no longer holding ministerial office.

A two-judge bench of Justices Abhay S. Oka and Augustine George Masih was hearing a plea by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking cancellation of the bail granted to Balaji on 26 September 2024. The ED argued that Balaji resumed his role as a minister shortly after obtaining bail and could potentially influence witnesses in the ongoing case linked to a cash-for-jobs scam.

The court observed that it had not taken into account earlier judicial findings against Balaji when bail was granted. “We will record it in the order that we have made a mistake by ignoring the judgements against you, because the entire hearing proceeded on the footing that he is no longer minister. We will accept our mistake,” Justice Oka said.

Balaji was reappointed as Minister for Electricity, Non-Conventional Energy Development, and Excise on 29 September 2024, just three days after his bail was granted. His continuation in the state cabinet for the past 207 days was not flagged during earlier hearings, the court noted.

Justice Oka clarified that the bail had been granted on the grounds of long incarceration and delay in trial proceedings under Article 21 of the Constitution, not on merits of the case. The court said it would now consider whether Balaji’s resumption of ministerial duties constituted a change in circumstances that justified revoking bail.

The bench raised concerns about the possibility of Balaji influencing witnesses, referencing a previous judgment which had found that he, as a minister, had coerced individuals to withdraw corruption complaints against him.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the ED, pointed out that Balaji had claimed to have resigned as a minister when seeking bail. Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, representing a witness in the case, argued that Balaji’s continued presence in office posed a threat to witness safety.

Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Balaji, said that shifting the trial out of Tamil Nadu could be considered if there were concerns about interference. However, the court stated that such a move would not resolve the issue, especially given the scale of the witness pool involved.

The court gave Balaji time until 28 April 2025 to step down from his ministerial role, warning that failure to do so may result in cancellation of his bail. The matter will be taken up again on Monday (28 April 2025).

Israel Starts Commemorating Holocaust Victims With Wreath-Laying Ceremony

Israel has started commemorating its annual Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day with an official wreath-laying ceremony here at the country’s Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem.

The ceremony began at nightfall. Holocaust survivors lit six torches in memory of the six million Jews who died at the hands of Nazi Germany and its collaborators during World War II, Xinhua news agency reported.

Addressing the gathering, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu drew a connection between the Holocaust and current geopolitical threats. He said that Israel would continue exerting “military pressure on Hamas,” destroy all of its capabilities, and “prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons”.

The ceremony saw remarks by Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog, who noted the difficult commemoration as the country continues to fight a war and hostages are still held in Hamas captivity. Released hostages sat in attendance at the ceremony as Herzog prayed for the return of those still captive and for the soldiers and their families who sacrificed in the fight on their behalf.

“This day, Holocaust Remembrance Day, is not only a day for looking backward. I speak here not only 80 years after the Holocaust but also a year and a half after the greatest massacre our people have endured since the Holocaust – when we are still wounded and bleeding, reeling and anxious,” said Herzog. Remembrance activities will continue through Thursday.

At 10 a.m. local time, a nationwide two-minute siren will sound, bringing the country to a standstill in honour of the victims. Other memorial events are scheduled to take place in schools, workplaces, and public institutions across Israel. Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics announced on Monday that there are about 120,000 Holocaust survivors and victims of anti-semitic persecution during World War II currently living in Israel, 62 per cent of which are women.

Netanyahu noted the successes of the military since the October 7 massacre, crippling Hezbollah and Hamas, and noting the fall of the Bashar al Assad regime in Syria. He threatened Iran with a similar fate if they continued down the path of nuclear weapons. @No one will prevent us from defending ourselves,” said Netanyahu, recalling the previous year’s commemoration when Israel was threatened with arms embargoes. “If we need to stand alone, we shall stand alone.

If we need to fight with our fingernails, we shall fight with our fingernails, but we will not relent.” Holocaust Remembrance Day was a milestone in the path to destroying those that seek to eliminate us, said Netanyahu, comparing Hamas and their actions to those of the Nazis and the Holocaust. This year’s Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Soviet army’s liberation of Auschwitz, which exposed the full scale of the Nazis’ extermination plan against Europe’s Jewish population.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: 3 Pakistanis, Two Kashmiris Among 5 Terrorists Identified

Five terrorists, including three Pakistani nationals and two residents of Jammu and Kashmir have been identified, who carried out the horrific attack near Pahalgam town, as authorities ramped up efforts to nab the perpetrators of the worst terror strike to rock the region in nearly two decades.

The investigation agencies identified named three Pakistani nationals — Asif Fauji (code name Moosa), Suleman Shah (code name Yunus) and Abu Talha (code name Asif), said people aware of developments.

Two other Valley based operatives — Adil Guri, a local from Bijbehara in Anantnag who went to Pakistan in 2018, and Ahsan, a resident of Pulwama who also went to Pakistan in 2018 — were also identified, said the people cited above.

The Kashmiri operatives recently infiltrated into India after getting years of training in Pakistan, but Fauji and Shah were operating in Jammu and Kashmir for some time and were involved in previous attacks as well, including in Poonch, said the investigators.

The terrorists involved in Tuesday’s attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow asked civilians, particularly men, to prove their religion by reciting Islamic prayers or showing physical markers such as circumcision, according to a preliminary investigation by central agencies based on survivors’ testimonies.

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have already released sketches of three suspects and announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh each for information on them. One of the attackers has been identified by central intelligence agencies as Moosa – a code name – who, the officer cited above said, was also most likely involved in the May 2024 attack on an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy in Poonch.

There is no CCTV camera at any establishment in the close vicinity of the Baisaran meadow, which means investigators are largely relying on information shared by the survivors. It is suspected that the attackers fled to higher ranges of the Pir Panjal after the attack.

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team led by Inspector General Vijay Sakhare is stationed in Srinagar to conduct a thorough investigation.

Officials said the federal anti-terror agency has already taken over the probe, with the J&K Police lending assistance. The role of Saifullah Kasuri, one of the deputies of Lashkar-e-Toiba Chief Hafiz Saeed, is being investigated, officials added. In a video shared on social media, Kasuri can be seen saying on February 2 this year that “Kashmir will become ‘land of the pure’ by February 2, 2026” and that “in the coming days Mujahideen will intensify their attacks and Kashmir will be freed”.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: DMK-Congress Ally Thirumavalavan Blames Modi Govt, Not A Word On Pakistan, Gets Slammed As Old Clip Calling Separatists/Terrorists As ‘Freedom Fighters’ Resurfaces

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan has faced significant criticism after issuing a condemnation of the recent terrorist attack on Hindu tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. While his statement expressed strong disapproval of the incident, he also took the opportunity to peddle his politics at a time when the nation is mourning the death of innocent lives lost to the terrorist attack.

In his statement, Thirumavalavan condemns the BJP-led government for its failure to ensure security, criticizing the 2019 revocation of Kashmir’s special status and the subsequent reduction of 180,000 troops during the COVID period, which he claims contributed to the security lapse.

In his two page statement, there was not a single mention of Pakistan or the terror outfit The Resistance Front (an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba).

Netizens quickly highlighted past instances where VCK members, including MLA Aloor Shanavas, had referred to Kashmiri militants as “freedom fighters. A video resurfaced in which Shanavas praised Thirumavalavan for acknowledging the Kashmir conflict as a struggle for freedom rather than terrorism.

Following the brutal assault on Hindu tourists in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, Thirumavalavan issued a formal statement via his official account, saying, “I strongly condemn the horrific terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Jammu and Kashmir. Such acts of terror have no place in a democratic and civilized society. The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be identified, brought to justice, and punished with the utmost severity. I urge the Union Government to convene an all-party meeting to demonstrate that the entire nation stands united in rejecting terrorism and upholding peace and democracy.”

“I strongly condemn the horrific terrorist attack on innocent tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, the internet wasn’t buying it. Many slammed Thirumavalavan for what they called a sudden performative concern, pointing out that his party has previously glorified terrorists. One video that particularly infuriated people shows MLA Aloor Shanavas saying, “Today, Kashmir is burning. You ask any leader their opinion about Kashmir. They will say Kashmir belongs to India, it is an integral part of India, and the ones who fight there are terrorists. People have the same opinion as the press spreads such a narrative, and the leaders in our country also say the same thing. But our leader Thirumavalavan, who has visited Kashmir and seen the situation, is the only brave Tamil leader who says the truth that what is happening there isn’t terrorism but a freedom struggle. Does any other leader say this truth?”

The resurfaced clip fueled further criticism, with people accusing the VCK of double standards and playing to their political base, instead of standing firmly against terrorism in all forms irrespective of religion.

This isn’t the first instance where Thirumavalavan and his party, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), have shown a tendency to glorify individuals and groups widely recognized as terrorists by portraying them as “freedom fighters.”

Glorifying S.A. Basha – Mastermind Of The 1998 Coimbatore Blasts

Following the death of S.A. Basha, founder of the banned terror outfit Al-Ummah and the chief conspirator behind the 1998 Coimbatore bomb blasts that killed 58 and injured over 230 people, several Dravidian parties, including VCK, offered tributes that were seen as blatant appeasement of extremist elements.

Thirumavalavan took to social media to pay tribute, portraying Basha as a martyr for the Muslim community. He wrote that Basha, who had spent over 25 years in prison, remained steadfast in his beliefs and that his death was a significant loss for Muslims. He further stated that party leaders, including Deputy General Secretary Vanni Arasu, attended Basha’s funeral to offer their respects, calling it a “heroic tribute.”

He wrote, “Kovai Basha has lost his life after being in prison for more than a quarter of a century. Not only him, but also some of his relatives including his son Siddique were imprisoned and lost their lives. Even when his family was imprisoned to protect the interests of Muslims, he did not lose heart and lived with determination without wavering in his principles. It is sad that he died as a prisoner. However, it has become a history. His demise is a great loss for Muslims. Many leading comrades including Deputy General Secretary Vanni Arasu participated in his last rites on behalf of the party and paid him a heroic tribute. Salute to Kovai_Pasha.”

Consistent Pattern of Supporting Extremist Groups

Thirumavalavan’s controversial comments aren’t new. He has previously drawn parallels between globally designated terrorist organizations—like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis—and movements for self-determination, portraying them as justified resistance forces. He has even defended the LTTE, a banned terrorist outfit, suggesting they resorted to arms only after democratic processes failed them.

In an October 2024 speech, Thirumavalavan argued that militant groups in Palestine emerged in response to Israeli aggression, comparing them to the LTTE’s evolution in Sri Lanka. He claimed Palestinians, having lost the majority of their land to Israel, had no choice but to form groups like the PLO and later, Hamas, in self-defense.

Thirumavalavan said, “Generally they will say it as a terrorist organization, militant organization, then why was LTTE formed? Even after 25 years of struggle under the leadership of Selva in democratic way, the Sinhalese did not accept their demand. As there was need to speak in their language, armed groups appeared. Then what will the neighboring Islamic countries do without helping them? It will help them.”

He stated that initially, Palestinians ceded 40-45% of their land, but now Israel has taken over 90%, leaving only a small portion in the West Bank and Gaza. He then posed a question to the audience, “Now tell me, on whose side should we stand? Can you support Israel or the Jewish group that have driven out the Palestinians and occupied their land?”

He went as far as to draw a controversial comparison between the displacement of Dalits in Chennai and the plight of Palestinians. Referring to the Marwari business community in Sowcarpet, Chennai, Thirumavalavan likened their economic expansion to Israeli settlement, implying that the original residents of Chennai were being pushed out like Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

What did the Jews do? They (Palestinians) gave them a piece of land and asked to stay within that. If we ask him (Marwaris) to stay within Sowcarpet, he should stay there.  What will happen if they expand to other areas like Anna Nagar and encroach entire Chennai? The Dalits, poor and the marginalized, those who stay on the banks of Cooum River are being shifted to Ottiyambakkam, Thoraipakkam, Semmenchery. This is called displacement. The natives of Chennai were shifted away to 40-50 kms saying that you’re being affected because of rains and floods. This is being done by the government itself. What happened there (Israel) was, as he (Jews) came, these people (Palestinians) had to flee. They attacked. Thousands of them were killed.“, he said.

Public Endorsement of Pro-Palestinian Protests

On multiple occasions, including on 31 October 2023, Thirumavalavan has participated in large-scale demonstrations supporting Palestine, aligning himself with various Muslim political organizations. These events often included inflammatory rhetoric against Israel and vocal support for groups like Hamas. He criticized India’s neutral stance at the UN and urged the global community to condemn Israeli actions.

Thirumavalavan spoke in an inflammatory fashion and supported Hamas in this war. Here is a transcript of his speech. “Israel is carrying out a brutal war of aggression. Israel must stop this war. The nations across the world, democratic countries are voicing their support for Israel to stop this brutality against the Palestinians.”

Resolution Against India Abstaining From Voting Against Israel

He said, “Recently at the UN Assembly, Jordan proposed a resolution, and 120 nations voted in favour of it. 14 nations voted against it. 45 countries including India abstained from voting. Even if we count the countries that abstained and those who voted against the resolution, it is only 60 countries. But those who supported the resolution make up 120 countries. The world makes us realise the truth. That the war carried out by Israel on Palestine and the Gaza Strip is unjust, cruel, and terrible and this war needs to stop immediately. This is the voice of the world, the voice of all the democratic nations of the world. As a means to support that voice, today we have congregated here in the thousands.” He added, “When asked why we abstained from voting, they said that in the Jordan Resolution, there is no mention of Hamas, they have not spoken about the attack they carried out. So we abstained, said Yojana Patel, the Indian representative.”

Called Israel An Occupier Nation

He called Israel an occupier nation and said, “Israel has occupied Palestine, that is the historical truth. They were chased out of Germany and several other European countries. They entered Palestine with banners saying Germans stabbed us, don’t destroy our hope. The same people are the ones who created Israel and terrorising and suppressing people, they are the Jews.

He added, “Keeping aside the history of why they were chased out of Germany, the Jewish race is one which has only developed enmity with most of the countries in the world. Israel is not their ancestral land. Israel is not their motherland. With the help of superpowers like America, they occupied territory and created a country of their own and are killing and bringing about the genocide of the same Palestinians who gave them refuge.”

Comparing The Eelam War With That Of Palestine

Thirumavalavan compared the Srilankan Tamil issue with that of the Palestinians. He said, “Even in Eelam, the Singhalese are not the natives of that land. They went from India. But history has been hidden from all. They caused the genocide and massacre of the natives of that land, the Tamils. It continues to this day. The same thing has happened here (Palestine).”

He added, “In 2001, I attended a conference in Durban in South Africa. It was about opposing apartheid. Several Palestinians came there with banners. Even though I do not understand their language, I would stand with the Palestinians during their protests. I came across a flyer that was in English. They constantly spoke for freeing their land and requested the countries of the world to support them. Yasser Arafat, the leader of the Palestinian Liberation Movement would conduct exile Parliament and stress on these requests, same like how Eelam Tamils are having one.”

Hamas – A “Defence Force”

He called Hamas a defence force. He said, “We know that Hamas emerged as a contradictory movement of the Palestinian Liberation Movement. But that movement is the only one that protects the Palestinians. It is not a war-frenzy movement. It is not an occupier-frenzy movement. It is not a movement that hates other races. It did not start an attack on Israel unjustly. Hamas is a defence force that is there to protect Palestinians and Palestine’s land. It is being called a terrorist organisation and extremist organisation by the Sanathana forces in the United Nations Assembly.”

Justifying The Creation Of Hamas

Thirumavalavan also justified the reason for the creation of Hamas. He said, “What is the reason for the emergence of Hamas? Which country has been aggressed against/occupied by Hamas? On 7 October 2023, they carried out rocket strikes. It is not a war of aggression. It is a war against aggression. Shouldn’t India realize this? Shouldn’t America realise this? Is the attack carried out by Hamas a terror attack? or is the attack carried out by Israel a terror attack? Did the Palestinians occupy the Jewish nation or did the Jews occupy the Palestinian nation? Shouldn’t we know the answer to this question? It is a fact that the world knows. It is a historical fact that the Jews occupied the Palestinian nation.”

He also added, “Israel is an occupier nation created by the Jews with the support of America. Who is carrying out the terror attack here? Weren’t the Palestinians the ones who helped them when they came to Palestine raising their banners? Who is carrying out such a terrible attack with cluster bombs and phosphorus against the Palestinians who welcomed them? We are not gathered here on the basis of religion. We are united asking for justice. We are here to question the conscience of the countries of the world. Whenever there is a war between Israel and Palestine, America always comes forward to support Israel blindly.”

Condemning India’s Stand On The War

He called India’s stand on the war something that was influenced by “Sanathana forces”. He said, “Today, our Indian nation has become a subordinate of America and has come forward to support Israel blindly. They support America’s stand. Indian politics is based on justice but it is supporting injustice. It is supporting Jews who are an occupier nation. It is against the Palestinians who are the sons of the soil (natives). The BJP government is looking at the Palestinians as Muslims alone. It is not looking at the justice on their side. We want to accuse the BJP, RSS’s Muslim hatred politics has made us take a stand against the Palestinians. They are not looking at this problem, this problem between Hamas and Israel as a fight between occupiers and natives. Should the Palestinian people come back to Palestine or not? Should they not condemn the actions of Israel which is preventing Palestinians from returning?”

Gaza – Comparison With Chennai

Thirumavalavan compared Gaza to Chennai and complained about how Israel was torturing the citizens. He said, “Gaza which is under the control of Hamas is a small strip of land that is 10km wide and 41km long. 25 lakh people are living in a place which is not even a fifth of Chennai’s land area. More than 1 crore people live in Chennai. For the past 25 days, Israel has been carrying out brutal attacks via air and land. Countries like America and India are watching the spectacle. Where will this lead to? Even if these people think, let the people of Palestine find a solution to the problem, even then the Palestinians will win. If America does not intervene, if their supporters do not intervene, if their army doesn’t go, if they do not help with their weapons, if they do not help financially, Hamas will win and take over Israel.”

He also added, “In the name of destroying LTTE, India, and America supported the Sinhalese and took a stand against the Tamils. In the same way, they named Hamas a terrorist organisation, and in the name of destroying Hamas, they are killing innocent Palestinians. Dead bodies are being transported in containers. They are burying dead bodies en masse. Reports indicate that 50000 pregnant women are unsafe and in dangerous conditions. They cut off the electricity, oil, and water. This is not just a war against terrorism, it is a genocide.”

He called for a gathering, a show of support similar to the gathering of numerous people in Kerala to express support for Palestine. He said even in Tamil Nadu, millions of people stand in opposition to Israel’s brutal war, and that this conflict needed to be halted promptly. He condemned India’s stance and that it must be altered, and efforts will be made to exert pressure on India to raise its voice against the continuation of the war.

“These Sanghis”: DMK MP & Senior Counsel Representing TN Govt P. Wilson Speaks Like A Two-Bit Troll In Court While Defending Ponmudy’s Hate Speech On Hindus

In a courtroom that demands decorum, integrity, and intellectual rigor, senior counsel P. Wilson’s defense of Tamil Nadu Forest Minister K. Ponmudy’s vile hate speech was nothing short of a disgrace. Representing the State in the Madras High Court on April 23, 2025, Wilson didn’t just fumble the ball—he spiked it into the gutter, trading legal acumen for the kind of cheap, divisive drivel you’d expect from a two-bit DMK troll on X.

DMK Minister Ponmudy’s Hate Speech Against Hindus

Let’s set the context. A man who owes his freedom and cabinet post to a Supreme Court stay on his corruption conviction, stands accused of delivering a speech so repugnant it targeted Saivites, Vaishnavites, and women with obscene, hate-fueled venom. The Madras High Court, led by Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, was rightfully appalled—not just at the speech, which likened sacred religious symbols to sexual postures described by a sex worker, but at the Tamil Nadu police’s inexplicable failure to register a First Information Report (FIR) despite three complaints. The court’s directive to take up a suo motu writ petition was a clarion call for accountability. Enter P. Wilson, to douse that call with a bucket of absurdity.

Wilson’s defense was a masterclass in evasion. He claimed the police, after reviewing the complaints, found no offense in Ponmudy’s speech. No offense? This is a speech that Justice Venkatesh himself described as “obscene,” “demeaning the moral worth of sex workers,” and “calculated to subvert the harmony and peace among religious groups.” It’s a speech that wounded the religious sentiments of millions and mocked the dignity of women. Yet, Wilson, with the audacity of a man who thinks the court is as gullible as a DMK WhatsApp group, argued it didn’t cross the line. One wonders if he even watched the video clip circulating on social media or if he just copy-pasted his talking points from a party memo.

Senior Counsel Or A Two-Bit Troll?

But Wilson didn’t stop at gaslighting the court. He took a page straight out of the troll handbook, sneering about “Sanghis” prejudicing the judiciary’s mind. Yes, you read that right. A senior counsel, in a High Court, resorted to flinging playground insults, implying some shadowy RSS conspiracy was behind the case. This wasn’t an argument; it was a tantrum. It’s the kind of lazy, baseless accusation you’d scroll past on X, posted by an anonymous handle with a EVR quote in their bio. To hear it in a courtroom, from a so-called “senior counsel” and a sitting MP, is ridiculous. The judiciary deserves better than conspiracy theories that sound like they were scribbled on the back of a DMK pamphlet.

Wilson’s attempt to deflect blame by pointing to dismissed writ petitions in the Madurai Bench and a pending public interest litigation was equally pathetic. It’s as if he thought the court wouldn’t notice the glaring issue: the Tamil Nadu police, under DMK’s thumb, have been dragging their feet, ignoring the Supreme Court’s 2014 directive to act swiftly against hate speech. Justice Venkatesh called this inaction “distressing and unfortunate,” a polite way of saying the police are either incompetent or complicit. Wilson’s job was to explain this failure, not to shrug it off like a social media warrior dodging a tough reply.

Perhaps the most infuriating part of Wilson’s performance was his insinuation that the video of Ponmudy’s speech was “truncated” and taken out of context. Oh, please. The minister himself issued a public apology—albeit a half-hearted one—for the “truncated portion,” and his party demoted him from Deputy General Secretary. If the speech was so defensible, why the apology? Why the demotion? Wilson’s attempt to spin this as a misunderstanding is the kind of intellectual dishonesty that thrives in echo chambers, not courtrooms. It’s a tactic ripped from the DMK’s social media playbook: when caught, cry “misrepresentation” and hope the outrage fizzles out.

Shame On Wilson

Let’s be clear: P. Wilson isn’t some random keyboard warrior. He’s a senior counsel, a former Additional Solicitor General, and a man entrusted with representing the State in matters of grave public importance. His job is to uphold the law, not to parrot party propaganda. Yet, in this case, he chose to debase himself, wielding the same tired tropes—Sanghi conspiracies, truncated videos—that DMK’s online trolls churn out daily. It’s a fall from grace that’s as pathetic as it is infuriating.

The Madras High Court, to its credit, saw through the nonsense. Justice Venkatesh’s insistence on zero tolerance for hate speech and his referral of the matter to Chief Justice K.R. Shriram signal a judiciary that won’t be swayed by political posturing. But Wilson’s antics are a stark reminder of how far the DMK will go to shield its own, even when their actions tear at the fabric of Tamil Nadu’s social harmony. Ponmudy’s speech wasn’t just offensive; it was a deliberate provocation, and Wilson’s defense was a deliberate distraction.

Tamil Nadu deserves better. Its people—Saivites, Vaishnavites, women, and everyone else targeted by Ponmudy’s bile—deserve a legal system that doesn’t cower before political clout. They deserve advocates who argue with facts, not fanboy rhetoric. P. Wilson chose to play the troll, and in doing so, he didn’t just fail the court—he failed the public. Shame on him.

“Do Not Identify Person By Religion”: Rahul Gandhi’s Aide Yogendra Yadav’s Sanctimonious Sermon After Pahalgam Terror Attack Is Nothing But An Attempt To Whitewash Islamic Terrorists

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, where innocent lives were lost in a gruesome assault that shook the nation, alleged psephologist Yogendra Yadav—once again—took to X not to condemn the terrorists or demand justice, but to lecture Indians on what not to do. His post, masquerading as a message of peace, was in reality a masterclass in moral grandstanding, tone-deaf deflection, and insidious whitewashing of terror.

While India mourned, Yadav sermonized. His message to the nation? Don’t blame anyone. Don’t demand accountability. Don’t see the terrorists’ ideology. Don’t even name the religion of the attackers—because, according to him, that would make us like them. In a country still grappling with the brutal pain of lives lost to jihadist violence, Yadav’s response read less like a call for unity and more like a PR exercise for the perpetrators.

On his X handle, he wrote, “In this hour of national mourning, it should be the duty of every Indian to avoid the four reactions that the Pahalgam terrorists would have wanted from us: 1. Don’t blame. This is the time to stand with the grieving families, not for blame games and media trials. 2. Do not put pressure on the government to take immediate retaliatory action. Give the military, security agencies and diplomats the opportunity to respond in a timely manner and in their own way. 3. Do not consider the people of Kashmir to be involved in the brutality of foreign terrorists. They are also victims of this incident. Thousands of families have lost their jobs. They need our help, our love. 4. Do not identify a person by his religion. This is what the terrorists did, assuming that we will all imitate them. Taking a pledge of Hindu Muslim unity is the most effective answer to the terrorists. Jai Hind!”

Yogendra Yadav – The Saint Of Selective Outrage

Yadav’s four-point prescription for national mourning reveals his true colors. First, he implores Indians not to “blame,” a clever euphemism for discouraging any serious examination of the jihadist ideology behind the attack. This from a man who has never hesitated to blame the Indian state, majority community, or Prime Minister Modi for every real and imagined grievance.

Second, he cautions against pressuring the government for retaliation, a curious demand coming from someone whose entire career has been built on pressuring governments through protests often bordering on violent unrest. The irony is palpable—when Yadav’s ideological fellow travelers riot in the streets, it’s “democratic dissent”; when Hindus demand action against terrorists, it’s “jingoism.”

Third, his plea to not associate ordinary Kashmiris with terrorism deliberately conflates the valley’s innocent civilians with its entrenched ecosystem of terror sympathizers. No serious counterterrorism strategy can afford this false equivalence, yet Yadav pushes it relentlessly.

Finally, his admonition against identifying attackers by their religion would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous. The terrorists didn’t shoot pilgrims at random—they targeted Hindus specifically. Yet Yadav, who has built his career on identity politics, suddenly discovers the virtues of colorblindness when Islamic extremists are the perpetrators.

Yogendra Yadav’s History Of Siding With Anti-India Forces

This is not an isolated episode. Yogendra Yadav’s record is littered with instances where he has aligned himself with radical and anti-India elements. In 2020, his name appeared in the Delhi Police chargesheet on the anti-CAA riots, where he was identified as a co-conspirator. He allegedly attended a meeting alongside Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam where plans to instigate violent protests were laid out. According to the police, this meeting was the genesis of the DPSG WhatsApp group, which coordinated the violent outbreaks during President Trump’s visit.

And yet, in media circles, Yadav continues to masquerade as a scholar, a peace-monger, a “man of the people.” His association with the Sambhaavnaa Institute—funded by Internews, a USAID-backed organization accused of pushing foreign narratives in India—further reveals how deep his ties are with global networks that aim to destabilize India through soft power and social manipulation.

The Dangerous Cost Of Moral Cowardice

Yogendra Yadav represents a section of India’s intelligentsia that refuses to acknowledge the ideological roots of jihadist violence. By constantly shifting the burden of morality onto victims and shielding the attackers behind flowery platitudes, Yadav and his ilk are enabling a culture where terrorism is depoliticized, deradicalized, and ultimately normalized.

India deserves better. The victims of terror deserve justice, not lectures. And the country deserves commentators who call out the truth, not career activists who twist tragedy into an opportunity for ideological posturing.

Yadav’s words are not calls for peace—they’re camouflage for terror.

Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing Busts Major Cyber Fraud Network, Arrests 12 Across Multiple States

The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has arrested 12 individuals involved in various cybercrimes, including online investment fraud, scholarship scams, and digital arrest schemes. These operations were conducted across multiple states, with the suspects apprehended in Delhi, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.

Online Investment Fraud

In a significant case, a doctor fell victim to an online trading scam that resulted in a loss of ₹87 lakh. The perpetrators, operating from Sri Lanka, enticed the victim through a fraudulent Facebook page promising high returns on investments. The arrested individuals include Sahabudeen (44), Shahid Afridy (27), Musthaq Ahamed (24), and Mohamed Usman (67), among others. Authorities seized electronic devices and communication tools from the suspects.

Scholarship Scam

In Delhi, three individuals—Ashu Kumar (29), Anuj Kumar Jha (21), and Shubham Kumar (22)—were arrested for their involvement in a scholarship scam. The cybercrime police conducted operations leading to their apprehension.

Digital Arrest Scam

A resident of Vellore was deceived through a “digital arrest” scam, where fraudsters impersonated Mumbai Police officers via WhatsApp video calls. The victim was coerced into transferring ₹2.72 crore over three days. Investigations revealed that ₹1.3 crore was deposited into a bank account in Kerala, belonging to a trading firm owned by Manju. Upon questioning, Manju disclosed that her second husband, Imthiaz Shah, was involved in the operation. Further inquiries identified 99 complaints linked to this account from across India. Imthiaz Shah was subsequently arrested.

These arrests are part of a broader crackdown on cybercrime in Tamil Nadu. Earlier in December 2024, the police launched ‘Operation Thiraineeku,’ leading to the arrest of 70 individuals involved in 135 cases statewide, with fraud amounts totaling ₹42 crore. The operation utilized profiling through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and financial data analysis to dismantle organized cybercrime networks.

Andrea Jeremiah Virtue Signals On Hate And Polarization As Muslim Terrorists Gun Down Hindu Tourists In Pahalgam

In the wake of a horrifying terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where Hindu pilgrims were reportedly gunned down by Islamist extremists, actress and singer Andrea Jeremiah took to Instagram—not to unequivocally condemn the perpetrators—but to deliver a sermon on hate, polarisation, and surveillance.

Posting pictures from her earlier vacation in the scenic valley, Andrea wrote, “My heart goes out to the families of those affected by the terrorist attack 💔💔💔 But my heart also breaks for the people of Kashmir who will be subjected to even more surveillance & scrutiny after this incident 💔💔💔”. She went on to add that “there is no space for hate here, not on my comment section, not in our world.”

At a time when Hindu families are grieving the targeted murder of their loved ones, Andrea’s call for “not being swayed by hate” appeared to many as tone-deaf and evasive—especially as she failed to name the community of the victims or the ideology behind the attackers.

Critics argue that this form of moral equivalence—where perpetrators of jihadist violence and their victims are treated as two sides of the same coin—is not just insensitive but dangerous. There was no mention of the radical Islamist groups behind the attack, no solidarity with Hindu victims as Hindus, and certainly no demand for justice or stronger anti-terror measures. Instead, the focus quickly shifted to a concern about increased surveillance of Kashmiri Muslims, as though the biggest worry after such a tragedy should be potential scrutiny rather than the act of terrorism itself.

Pushing The Narrative

Andrea seems to be peddling the larger leftist anti-Indian/Hindu narrative of blaming Hindus of ‘targeting a specific religion’ when it comes to terrorism. This also seems to be in line with those of her Dravidianist paymasters.

At the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (GIM) in January 2024, she performed a series of Kollywood songs alongside composer Stephen Devassy. The event, which was supposed to highlight Tamil Nadu’s economic strengths and attract global investors, took a jarring turn when Andrea chose to sing “Oo Solriya Mama,” a song known for its vulgar choreography. She didn’t shy away from dancing to it either.

Many criticized the performance as crass and inappropriate for an international business summit. Some likened it to Maanada Mayilaada, a dance reality show once closely associated with the DMK and questioned whether the performance was a deliberate cultural signal given the ruling party’s historic ties with Kollywood’s more provocative elements. Critics argued that the event turned into a DMK-style jamboree, more about spectacle than substance.

The Dravidianist Whitewash: Virtue Signaling While Enabling Terror

Andrea Jeremiah’s Instagram post, while draped in the language of peace and anti-hate, ends up doing what many Dravidianist sympathizers in Tamil Nadu have perfected—subtly shifting blame away from the actual perpetrators and onto the system, the state, and society at large.

While Hindu tourists were hunted down in Pahalgam for their religion—forced to strip, checked for circumcision, and executed for not reciting the kalma—Andrea’s concern somehow drifts toward the “scrutiny” Kashmiris might face in the aftermath. That sentiment, echoed across the Dravidianist ecosystem, serves to downplay jihadist terror and reframe it as a problem of “polarization” or “Islamophobia.”

The same playbook was on full display when Dravidianist voices like Sundaravalli and Mathivadhani floated absurd conspiracy theories blaming the Indian Army or accused media of “communalizing” the tragedy. What Andrea posted might seem like a heartfelt call for unity, but in effect, it echoes a wider ideological effort to whitewash Islamist terror and cast suspicion on anyone who dares call it out. In the Dravidianist worldview, it is more acceptable to criticize a grieving nation than to confront the brutal truth about radicalization.

Selective Outrage?

At a time when an entire country is mourning the murder of innocents by religious extremists, Andrea Jeremiah’s social media post strikes many as a masterclass in selective outrage and misplaced empathy. While victims lie in coffins, she worries about comment sections. While Hindu tourists are hunted for their faith, she cautions against being “swayed by hate.” There’s a distinct failure to name the crime, the ideology, or the motive—an omission that has become common in certain elite cultural circles.

For many observers, Andrea Jeremiah’s post is yet another example of a larger problem—a tendency among public figures to deflect blame from perpetrators of religious terror and instead issue hollow calls for unity, conveniently avoiding any mention of Hindu suffering, very typical of leftists and Dravidianists.

Madras High Court Gives Belt Treatment To DMK Govt For Not Registering FIR Against Ponmudi’s Hate Speech On Hindus

On 23 April 2025, the Madras High Court initiated suo motu proceedings against DMK Forest Minister Ponmudy following his making derogatory remarks on Vaishnavism and Saivism. Justice Anand Venkatesh directed the Registry to initiate writ proceedings against the Minister and present the matter before the Chief Justice for further action. The court observed that the Minister’s speech appeared to constitute hate speech, potentially violating various sections of the BNS 2023.

The court emphasized that the Minister’s remarks were not only disrespectful to women but also deeply insulting to the religious beliefs of Vaishnavites and Saivites, who represent the two major Hindu sects in Tamil Nadu. The bench noted that the speech, on the surface, appeared to be laced with contempt for both groups and was laced with obscenities that injured the sentiments of their followers.

The court stated, “At first glance, these remarks are highly disrespectful to women and seem intentionally aimed at inciting animosity toward the two major Hindu sects—Vaishnavism and Saivism. Beyond their indecent tone, the comments also deeply offend the religious sentiments of Vaishnavites and Saivites.”

It also criticized the state police for their inaction, stating that their failure to act against the Minister, despite previous court orders, was distressing. The court emphasized its duty to ensure that the state police adhere to Supreme Court directives concerning hate speech, asserting a zero-tolerance policy towards such offenses.

The court noted, “This court observed that the Minister had acknowledged making the statement and was subsequently removed from his position. Yet, the police, whose duty it is to address hate speech, took no action. This ongoing inaction is deeply troubling. As a constitutional authority, this court has a responsibility to ensure that the Tamil Nadu police comply with the Supreme Court’s directives on hate speech. When it comes to such matters, there is zero tolerance.”

On 17 April 2025, the court had directed the state government to register an FIR against Minister Ponmudy for his remarks. The court had warned that failure to do so would compel it to take suo motu action. The judge emphasized that individuals in positions of power should exercise responsibility and refrain from making divisive statements.

In response, Senior Advocate P. Wilson, representing the Tamil Nadu Police, informed the court that preliminary inquiries had been conducted into two complaints against the Minister, both of which were closed after finding no prima facie case. Senior Advocate Vikas Singh, representing Ponmudy, argued that the speech was made in a closed meeting and only a truncated version was made public, and that the Minister was discussing events from around 40 years ago, suggesting no case had been made out. The court recorded these submissions but maintained its stance that the Minister’s speech was derogatory and ordered accordingly.
