Suriya Turns A Year Older: Still A Flop Star, DMK Stooge & Serial Virtue Signalling Hypocrite

DMK stooge, Dravidianist supporter, so-called actor Suriya is turning a year older today. So, it is essential to bring to light the various achievements of this unofficial DMK mascot today. Right from being a flop star, DMK buttresser, propagandist who would open his mouth only to please his masters in the ruling government, Suriya has achieved a lot. Let’s check them out one by one.

Flop Star Suriya

Suriya, once a bankable star, became a flop star the moment he donned the Dravidianist robes. Truth be told, Suriya’s filmography is a masterclass in mediocrity. Right from forgettable disasters like Anjaan, Massu Engira Masilamani, Etharkkum Thunindhavan, to his most recent box-office duds, he has perfected the art of overacting and underwhelming scripts. Yet, his PR machinery ensures he’s hailed as a “versatile actor” – versatile in disappointing audiences, perhaps. Let’s take a look at the various flops he has delivered over the years.

Retro

Touted as a grand comeback, Suriya’s Retro turned into a critical and commercial flop, drawing widespread disappointment from audiences and reviewers alike. Despite high expectations driven by director Karthik Subbaraj, composer Santhosh Narayanan, and the viral buzz around the song “Kanimma,” the film suffered from incoherent storytelling, sluggish pacing, and overstuffed plotlines. Viewers criticized its erratic transitions, from Thoothukudi to Africa and the Andamans, and a lack of a clear villain. Tamil reviewer “Blue Sattai” Maran mocked the film’s narrative chaos and overacting, particularly targeting Suriya’s loud performance. Social media reactions were scathing, with many likening Retro to a bloated version of Kanguva and questioning Suriya’s judgment in film choices. The three-hour runtime, jumbled themes, and confused tone left even loyal fans disillusioned. What was meant to be a cinematic triumph has instead become the actor’s third consecutive box-office misfire in 2024-2025.

Kanguva

Despite immense pre-release hype and a ₹400 crore budget, Suriya’s multilingual epic Kanguva turned out to be a monumental flop. Audiences emerged from theatres angry, exhausted, and disillusioned. Many slammed the film for its incoherent story, deafening sound design, and Suriya’s non-stop high decibel shouting through the film. One viewer compared the experience to being in a “mental hospital,” while another said the only redeeming moment was 30 seconds of silence in the climax. Frustrated fans criticized the 3-hour runtime, poor 3D visuals, and complete lack of substance. Even Suriya loyalists admitted disappointment, calling it a career-damaging misstep. Viewers unanimously agreed: Kanguva was more torture than entertainment.

His previous outings like Edharkkum Thunindhavan, Mass, Kaapaan, etc turned out to be disaster at the box office.

Hate-Peddler Suriya

His film Jai Bhim was criticised for its portrayal of the Vanniyar community, leading the Saidapet Court to direct the Chennai Police to file an FIR against Suriya, his wife Jyothika, and director T.J. Gnanavel. The Rudra Vanniyar Sena petitioned the court, alleging that the film falsely depicted the main antagonist, SI Anthony Sami, as a Vanniyar, using their sacred ‘Agni’ symbol, when in reality, the officer was a Christian. Despite the backlash, the filmmakers replaced the symbol with an image of Goddess Lakshmi, which was also criticized as a manipulative move. The community and social media users accused Suriya of deliberately maligning the Vanniyars for political mileage, particularly by aligning with the ruling DMK.

In Soorarai Pottru, the character based on Air Deccan’s G.R. Gopinath, a Brahmin and capitalist, was misleadingly portrayed as an EV Ramasamy/Periyar follower and “socialist capitalist,” distorting the real-life persona.

In Jai Bhim, a controversial scene shows a Brahmin lawyer named Sankaran (played by MS Bhaskar) praising Suriya’s character Chandru, only for Chandru to respond with veiled distrust, implying Brahmins are manipulative. This was seen as a pattern in Suriya’s films of subtly vilifying Brahmins to align with Dravidianist political narratives.

Hypocrite Suriya

In this section, we will take a look at the various hypocrisies exhibited by Suriya (along with his wife).

Preach About Donating Money To Hospitals, Schools; Go On Expensive Seychelles Vacay

Suriya and his wife Jyotika were seen vacationing in Seychelles in June 2025. Jyotika, who once questioned temple donations in favor of funding schools and hospitals, flaunted an extravagant trip costing lakhs.

Suriya-Jyothika’s ₹70 Cr Luxury Move to Mumbai

Suriya and his wife Jyothika purchased a ₹70 crore luxury apartment in a gated community in Mumbai in 2023. This move starkly contradicted Jyothika’s 2020 awards ceremony speech, where she urged the public to donate to hospitals and schools instead of temples, citing poor infrastructure in public institutions. Suriya, who also heads the Agaram Foundation and often champions DMK-backed causes like anti-NEET rhetoric, has been accused of virtue-signalling. While the purchase of a high-end residence is a private decision, it exposed the gap between the couple’s public preaching and private choices, reinforcing perceptions of hypocrisy.

Suriya’s Caste Identity vs On-Screen Anti-Caste Messaging

Despite his public posturing against caste through films like Soorarai Pottru, actor Suriya Sivakumar is listed in official company records as “Rakkia Gounder Sivakumar Suriya,” clearly retaining his caste title “Gounder.” He serves as director of both 2D Entertainment Pvt Ltd and Rakkia Cinemas Pvt Ltd. Interestingly, his brother and fellow actor Karthi Sivakumar, also a director, does not use a caste title in official records. This contrast between Suriya’s documented identity and his on-screen ‘anti-caste’ narrative raised questions about the sincerity of his social messaging and ideological consistency.

Suriya’s Great Hindi Flip-Flop: From Anti-Hindi Crusader to Mumbai Cheerleader

Suriya, a vocal critic of Hindi imposition in Tamil Nadu, has now embraced Mumbai life, praised the city and exploring Hindi film opportunities, revealing a glaring contradiction in his public persona. Once adamant about Tamil exclusivity, Suriya had condemned the inclusion of Hindi in schools and portrayed anti-Hindi sentiment in his film Jai Bhim. But after relocating to Mumbai with his wife Jyotika and children, the actor now calls the city “full of opportunities” and is actively engaging in Hindi media promotions.

In a Curly Tales interview, he comfortably conversed in Hindi, relished panipuri, praised Hindi films like 12th Fail, and even gleefully responded in Hindi when asked about imli. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, he had earlier warned that learning a third language was burdensome and would be “imposed” upon the public. This blatant hypocrisy – preaching Tamil purity at home while leveraging Hindi for personal and professional gain elsewhere – has not gone unnoticed.

Suriya’s move to Mumbai, interest in Bollywood, and public use of Hindi directly contradict his long-standing anti-Hindi rhetoric. What he condemned for Tamil students, he now celebrates for his own children.

Suriya and Jyothika’s Temple Run – Hypocrisy Much

Following the box-office disaster of Kanguva, actor Suriya and wife Jyothika, longtime critics of temple donations, took a visible turn toward spirituality, visiting several major temples across South India. This sudden wave of devotion, coinciding with their film’s failure, has drawn criticism as a staged PR act rather than genuine faith. The couple, previously hailed by Dravidianist media for advocating healthcare and education over religious giving, now appear to be repositioning themselves in response to public backlash. Their change in tone seemed to be driven by damage control, especially after Kanguva’s poor reception and Jyothika’s widely criticized defence of the film online.

Suriya’s Love-Hate Relationship With Hindi – Hate In South, Love In North

Suriya who is well-known for opposing Hindi in Tamil Nadu and portraying anti-Hindi sentiment in films like Jai Bhim, recently embraced the very language he once criticized. While he previously claimed it was difficult to teach Hindi even to his own kids and warned of “imposition,” his recent move to Mumbai tells another story. During promotions for Kanguva, he comfortably spoke in Hindi, praised Mumbai’s culture, and even enjoyed panipuri while speaking in Hindi in a YouTube show. He enthusiastically responded “Bahut bahut accha”. Suriya’s shift exposes his hypocrisy: opposing Hindi at home while embracing it elsewhere for career gains.

Jai Bhim Glory, Parvathi’s Neglect

While Jai Bhim earned actor Suriya and his team international acclaim, awards, and crores in revenue, the real-life inspiration behind the film, Parvathi Rajakannu, continues to live in abject poverty. Despite portraying her struggle on screen and winning accolades like the Huading Award and significant cash prizes, neither Suriya, director T.J. Gnanavel, nor the production house sought Parvathi’s consent or ensured meaningful financial support. A token ₹10 lakh fixed deposit was promised, but in contrast to the film’s ₹50+ crore revenue from Amazon, Kalaignar TV, and film festivals, it is paltry. Parvathi, whose husband was a victim of custodial death, still lives in a hut, with no trace of the justice or dignity the film claimed to champion.

Hindi Hate For TN, Hindi Love For Profits

Suriya, who had been opposing the National Education Policy (NEP) in 2019, had criticized the three-language policy as an imposition of Hindi on Tamil Nadu’s students, calling it anti-poor and harmful to rural education. He even questioned how government schools could manage to teach a third language when he found it difficult with his own children. However, in a recent promotional tweet for his film Kanguva, Suriya wrote in six languages, including Hindi, prompting widespread backlash. Interestingly, he also publicised the Hindi version of Jai Bhim. It was also pointed that in Jai Bhim, a north Indian character is slapped for speaking Hindi, and this was seen as exploiting linguistic faultlines. Suriya’s selective activism is tailored to convenience and box-office returns.

Suriya Silent As Tamil Nadu NEET Toppers Shone

Four students from Tamil Nadu made it to the top 10 ranks of NEET 2023, including a Scheduled Caste student, Kaustav Bauri, securing an impressive third rank. Their success has sparked statewide celebration and bolstered support for the NEET system, often criticized by the ruling DMK and its supporters. However, Suriya, one of the loudest voices against NEET, conspicuously remained silent, triggering backlash online. He was called out for his failure to congratulate the achievers, especially after years of vocal opposition, where he termed NEET an anti-poor and anti-Tamil exam. In 2021, he urged public resistance via the AK Rajan Committee and branded NEET as discriminatory. Now, as Tamil Nadu students disprove those claims with their excellence, Suriya’s silence stands out sharply, undercutting the credibility of his previous activism.

Husband-Wife Duo Attend Ambani Wedding

After their public virtue-signalling on issues like Hindi imposition and prioritizing hospitals over temples, the husband-wife duo were seen attending Anant Ambani’s lavish wedding. Suriya had earlier opposed the National Education Policy for promoting Hindi, but promoted his film Kanguva in six languages, including Hindi, and even moved to Mumbai in 2023, while promoting Jai Bhim in Hindi too.

Double Standards For Agaram

Suriya, who vocally opposes NEET claiming it unfairly filters out medical aspirants from underprivileged backgrounds, runs the Agaram Foundation, a “non-profit” organization that ironically applies its own stringent selection criteria to determine which students deserve financial aid. Despite promoting the cause of educational equality, Agaram uses a rigorous scoring system to shortlist applicants, directly contradicting its stated mission.

No Hindi For TN Kids, Hindi/IB For His Kids

In what comes across as the nadir for hypocrisy, Suriya shuns Hindi education and the NEP implementation for Tamil Nadu school students. He even moved to Mumbai for better education for his children who study under the IB curriculum.

Propagandist Now Silent

Suriya was extremely vocal on social issues during the AIADMK government’s tenure up until 2021. But the moment the DMK came to power, he became deafeningly silent. Here are some instances of his total hush.

Anna University Sexual Assault Case

Suriya, known for his vocal stance on social justice issues, especially through his film Jai Bhim, came under fire for his silence on the recent Anna University sexual assault case. While he previously issued strong statements on incidents like the custodial deaths of Jayaraj and Bennix during the AIADMK regime, his lack of response to a heinous gangrape at Anna University campus sparked accusations of selective outrage. It is argued that Suriya, who often champions causes aligned with Dravidianist narratives, deliberately chose silence on this issue since the accused had alleged links to the ruling DMK.

Ajithkumar Custodial Death Case

Suriya was once vocal about police brutality during the AIADMK era, was widely praised for highlighting custodial deaths in Jai Bhim. Cut to 2025, the DMK stooge has chosen silence over outrage in the case of Ajithkumar, a 27-year-old temple security guard who died in police custody in Sivaganga under the DMK government. Despite previously condemning similar incidents, Suriya has offered no comment on this case or the growing number of custodial deaths, 25 since 2021, under CM Stalin’s watch. While Suriya had loudly criticized injustices under the previous regime, his current silence is being interpreted as ideological loyalty to the ruling DMK.

Suriya did not open his mouth even during the 2023 custodial death of a 26-year-old Scheduled Caste (Pallar community) youth.

Suriya’s Silence on Tamil Nadu’s Escalating Drug Crisis

Despite the alarming rise in drug-related crimes and youth intoxication in Tamil Nadu, Suriya, who often positions himself as a socially conscious star, has maintained a troubling silence. From seizures worth ₹111 crore in Pudukottai to heroin and cocaine smuggling at Chennai airport, the state is increasingly being likened to Colombia for its drug menace. Incidents of violence, public intoxication, and community unrest involving youth under the influence have become disturbingly frequent. Yet, Suriya, who once vocally opposed policies like NEET and produced films on social justice themes, has not uttered a word on this grave issue. This silence is stark, especially as drug networks target working youth, including IT professionals. Suriya’s activism was loud under previous regimes but conspicuously muted under the DMK government.

Suriya’s Silence During Chennai Rains

In the wake of Cyclone Michaung’s devastation across Chennai and surrounding districts in 2023, Suriya came under fire for his conspicuous silence. Despite his public image as a ‘socially aware’ celebrity and past vocal criticism during the AIADMK regime, Suriya, along with his brother Karthi, refrained from commenting on the severe flooding and mismanagement under the current DMK government. Though the brothers donated ₹10 lakh to relief efforts, many see this as insufficient given their previous political outspokenness. While ordinary citizens suffered from power outages, waterlogging, and poor disaster response, Suriya, a DMK mouthpiece, remained mute.

Suriya’s Deafening Silence on Vengaivayal Atrocity

Suriya remained silent on the horrific Vengaivayal incident in Pudukottai, where human faeces were found dumped in a water tank used by Dalits. While Suriya previously made headlines for producing Jai Bhim, a film highlighting police atrocities against Dalits, he offered no statement or solidarity for the Vengaivayal victims. His earlier activism under the AIADMK regime – on NEET, the Subhashree banner death, and police brutality – contrasts sharply with his current inaction under the DMK government, of which he is seen as a loyal supporter.

Suriya Praised Jallikattu Verdict, Omitted ADMK’s Role

Suriya, who is known for his silence during DMK rule, praised the Supreme Court’s 2023 verdict upholding Jallikattu and Kambala, congratulating the DMK and Congress-led Karnataka governments. However, he was criticized for omitting the crucial role of the AIADMK government, which passed the ordinance legalizing Jallikattu, and the BJP-led central government, which approved it. Suriya’s tweet came shortly after AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami indirectly called out actors who selectively speak based on the ruling party. Suriya’s irony was also pointed in praising the Congress, despite the party’s previous efforts to ban Jallikattu, including a 2016 manifesto call for prohibition and support from Manmohan Singh and Jairam Ramesh. Many accused Suriya of playing DMK’s mouthpiece while ignoring the party’s historical role in curbing the traditional Tamil sport.

DMK Stooge Suriya

As a reader, you might wonder why this separate section is needed to prove how loyal Suriya is to the ruling DMK. Here are some instances where Suriya buttressed the DMK that even Dobby’s loyalty will look small.

Deflected Blame During Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy On To Victims

DMK cheerleader Suriya drew criticism for his delayed and diluted response to the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy that claimed over 50 lives. Following public outrage and comparisons with actor Vijay’s hospital visit, Suriya released a letter that avoided directly blaming the DMK government. Instead, he used the term “poisonous liquor” – a Dravidianist media euphemism, rather than “hooch” or “illicit liquor.” His letter subtly praised the DMK’s educational schemes, offered token criticism of the “administration,” and equated the failures of both DMK and ADMK, deflecting accountability. While acknowledging repeated incidents and failures, he urged the rehabilitation of addicts and vaguely expressed belief in CM Stalin’s decision-making. Suriya was slammed for gaslighting victims, soft-peddling DMK’s role, and using monkey-balancing to protect his ideological allies. His letter stood in sharp contrast to his past vocal activism under previous regimes.

Virtue Signalling Family

Be it Suriya or Jothika or Suriya’s family, they have been consistent at only one thing – virtue signaling to the citizens of Tamil Nadu. Suriya’s family, notably his wife Jyothika and brother Karthi, have repeatedly indulged in virtue signalling aligned with DMK narratives.

Free Police Protection for Absent Suriya

Suriya’s Chennai residence has been under government-funded police protection since 2021, following controversies surrounding his film Jai Bhim that year. Despite relocating to a ₹70-crore apartment in Mumbai, armed police continue to guard his unoccupied property in Chennai, at no cost to him. An RTI filed by activist Krishnamurthy revealed that the arrangement, initiated by the Police Commissioner citing security threats, was upheld based on a ministerial recommendation. This has drawn sharp public criticism, especially given Suriya’s past vocal stances against the previous AIADMK regime and his silence under the current DMK government.

Suriya & Family Receive VVIP Treatment During Keeladi Museum Visit, Make Students Stand In Hot Sun

Suriya and his family received VVIP treatment during a visit to the Keezhadi Museum in Madurai, drawing public ire as schoolchildren were reportedly made to wait outside in the scorching sun. Suriya, his wife Jyothika, children, and father were accompanied by CPI(M) MP Su. Venkatesan during the 2 April 2023 visit. Despite the museum’s public opening time of 10 AM, entry was restricted for over an hour to accommodate the celebrity family’s exclusive tour. Photos of waiting schoolchildren went viral, triggering criticism online about elitism and double standards.

Mask Has Slipped Long Back, Suriya

Suriya Sivakumar stands exposed as a textbook case of ideological opportunism and selective activism. From playing the messiah of the oppressed in films to parroting Dravidianist propaganda in real life, his actions reveal a disturbing chasm between on-screen advocacy and off-screen integrity. Whether it’s his anti-Hindi grandstanding followed by a move to Mumbai, or his silence during real social crises under the DMK regime, Suriya’s pattern is clear – outspoken only when politically convenient.

Ultimately, Suriya is no longer just a fading actor or a selective activist – he is a full-time DMK mascot draped in hypocrisy.

BJP Leader Annamalai Flags Out-Of-Syllabus Questions In TNPSC Exam, Calls For Re-exam Or Relief For Students

annamalai tnpsc

BJP leader Annamalai has voiced strong support for the TNPSC Group 4 aspirants who appeared for the exam on 12 July 2025, expressing concern over widespread complaints regarding the Tamil language section. Many candidates have alleged that several questions were either outside the prescribed syllabus or poorly framed, with incorrect answer options.

Responding to the issue, Annamalai called on the Tamil Nadu government to act in the interest of students and consider cancelling the Tamil language section of the exam and conducting a re-examination. As an alternative, he suggested that full marks should be awarded for out-of-syllabus questions to all candidates, or those questions should be excluded from evaluation, with scores calculated based on the remaining valid questions.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring that such lapses are not repeated in future examinations, particularly in a state where competitive exams are a crucial opportunity for youth seeking government employment.

Taking to his official X account, Annamalai wrote, “In the TNPSC Group 4 examination, out of a total of 200 questions, 100 questions are specifically from the Tamil language section. Examinees have reported that in the examination held last Saturday, 12 July 2025, more than 50 out of the 100 questions asked in the Tamil language section were extremely difficult, outside the syllabus, and phrased in a way that made them incomprehensible. Since there are no negative marks, all examinees have chosen some answer or the other. This has pushed even those who worked hard to prepare for the exam into a situation where success ultimately depends on luck. It is not only regrettable but also avoidable that young people who have dedicated their time and hard work for many years to secure government jobs are now losing their opportunity due to questions outside the syllabus. It is unjust to make young people, who prepared for the exam with dreams of government jobs, and their families, victims of someone’s mistake by asking questions outside the syllabus. Therefore, I urge the Tamil Nadu Government to cancel the TNPSC Group 4 Tamil language examination held last Saturday and conduct a re-examination. Alternatively, marks for questions outside the syllabus should be awarded equally to all students, or those questions should be entirely removed and marks calculated from the remaining questions. I also urge that measures be taken to ensure such out-of-syllabus questions are not asked in future examinations.”

Madurai Bench Of Madras High Court Orders ₹25 Lakh Interim Compensation To Kin In Ajithkumar Custodial Death Case

madurai bench madras high court sivaganga ajithkumar custodial death case compensation

The Madras High Court on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, ordered the Tamil Nadu government to pay ₹25 lakh as interim compensation to the family of 27-year-old Ajithkumar, a temple security guard who died in police custody in June 2025. The court termed the incident a “custodial death involving physical abuse” and noted that such acts “cannot be tolerated in a civilised society and must be dealt with firmly.”

Ajithkumar, who worked at the Madapuram Temple in Sivaganga district, was taken into police custody in June in connection with a theft complaint. According to reports, a devotee had asked Ajith to park her vehicle, but since he did not know how to drive, he requested someone else to do so. Later, the devotee, identified as Nikitha, alleged that cash and gold were missing from her car.

Police detained Ajith for questioning, and he died shortly afterward under suspicious circumstances. A post-mortem revealed over 40 injury marks on his body, indicating torture in custody. A report submitted by a Sessions Court judge confirmed the physical abuse.

The Tamil Nadu government had initially offered the family ₹7.5 lakh, a housing plot, and a government job for Ajith’s brother. However, the Madurai Bench of the High Court directed the government to pay an additional ₹25 lakh as interim relief. The court added that the family may approach it again for further compensation once criminal proceedings are complete. In an earlier hearing, the bench had observed, “Even a murderer wouldn’t have inflicted such brutality.”

Amid growing public outrage, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), stating, “There should be no questions over the investigation.” He also issued a public apology to Ajithkumar’s family.

Following the court’s directive, the CBI has registered an FIR against the police personnel involved. The agency will also investigate the original theft complaint filed by Nikita.

So far, five police officers have been arrested in connection with the case. A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been suspended, and the Sivagangai Superintendent of Police (SP) has been placed under compulsory wait. The High Court has instructed the CBI to appoint an investigation team within a week and to submit its final report by 20 August 2025.

DMK Govt Moves High Court To Cancel Anticipatory Bail Of Madurai Adheenam Pontiff For Alleged ‘Inflammatory’ Speech, BJP Compares Stalin Govt To Aurangzeb Regime

The so-called “Dravidian Model” DMK government has now moved the Madras High Court to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to Madurai Adheenam seer Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Swamigal. The BJP has strongly condemned the move, calling the DMK anti-Hindu and likening its actions to the persecution and atrocities of the Aurangzeb era.

This move follows the Chennai Principal Sessions Court’s decision on 19 July 2025, to grant the Aadheenam conditional anticipatory bail. The court held that his controversial remarks claiming an assassination attempt involving Pakistan did not, at face value, qualify as hate speech. “Though exaggerated, the statements made by the Adheenam do not prima facie indicate an intent to incite communal discord,” said Principal Sessions Judge S. Karthikeyan. He also noted that the controversy arose largely because media personnel persistently pushed the Aadheenam for provocative answers.

What Is The Issue?

The controversy began with an incident on 2 May, when the Aadheenam alleged that his car was deliberately rammed near Ulundurpettai, claiming an assassination attempt. However, police investigations, including CCTV footage review, found no evidence of foul play and concluded the collision was accidental. Following this, a case was filed against the pontiff under four sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of inciting religious hatred and spreading false information.

Despite being granted bail on the condition that he cooperate with the probe, the Cyber Crime Wing questioned the pontiff on 20  July at his Madurai premises. According to sources, the Aadheenam, still bedridden post-surgery, struggled to sit upright during the hour-long inquiry. He reportedly asked to be assisted by an aide to retrieve relevant documents a request denied by the police, who also refused to allow legal counsel to be present.

The police’s handling of the situation has sparked widespread backlash, especially from religious and political groups. BJP supporters staged a protest outside the Aadheenam’s residence, condemning the interrogation of a frail religious figure and questioning the timing, intent, and lack of procedural sensitivity by the authorities.

BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan Compares Stalin To Aurangzeb

Condemning the DMK government and calling it anti-Hindu, Coimbatore South BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan asked the DMK government to stop its oppression of Madurai Adheenam.

The anti-Hindu DMK government has launched an oppression campaign against Srila Sri Harihara Gnanasambadha Desiga Swamigal, the 293rd seer of Madurai Adheenam, of the oldest Saivite monastries in India. On May 2, Madurai Adheenam went by car to participate in the World Saiva Siddhanta Conference held in Kattankulathur, Chennai. At that time, his car met with an accident near Ulundurpet. He had said that this was a conspiracy to kill him and had given the identities of the people in car who caused the accident. Following this, the anti-Hindu DMK govt which had registered a case made a concerted effort to arrest Madurai Adheenam. The court had granted him anticipatory bail ordering an investigation to be conducted at his residence. The police have filed a petition in High Court seeking cancellation of Madurai Adheenam’s anticipatory bail saying he has not cooperated with the investigation.“, she said.

Adding further, Vanathi said “It seems that the DMK government is determined to somehow arrest and torture the elderly and physically ill Madurai Adheenam. Atrocities that did not happen even during Aurangzeb regime are happening under the DMK govt. This oppression of Madurai Adheenam should be abandoned by the DMK government.

BJP leader K. Annamalai came down heavily on the Tamil Nadu Police for filing a petition in the Madras High Court seeking to revoke the anticipatory bail granted to Madurai Aadheenam Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Swamigal.

In a sharp rebuke of the police’s latest petition, Annamalai stated, “The Tamil Nadu Police’s petition to the Honorable High Court to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to Madurai Aadheenam Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Swamigal is strongly condemnable. Just a few days ago, the Madurai Aadheenam, who is recovering from hernia surgery, was subjected to harassment for about an hour under the guise of an “inquiry” two days ago. Now, for the DMK government’s police to claim he is not cooperating with the investigation is clearly malicious. Law and order across Tamil Nadu is in disarray. The perpetrator of the sexual assault on a ten-year-old child has still not been found. There’s no time to investigate the DMK gang stealing kidneys. Even the police themselves are unsafe due to DMK cadres. However, the DMK government under the pretext of secularism is staging a drama citing flimsy reasons seemingly to appease someone. I urge the DMK government’s police to abandon this continuous harassment of the Madurai Aadheenam, who is recovering from surgery and also must immediately withdraw the petition seeking to cancel his anticipatory bail.”

DMK-Supporting Dravidianist Journo Of Nakkheeran Peddles Fake News About BJP Leader Annamalai Over Dharmasthala ‘Mass Burial’

nakkheeran dharmasthala annamalai dravidianist

Damodharan Prakash, a two-bit Dravidianist journalist associated with Nakkheeran, has once again circulated a completely unfounded and outrageous claim against former IPS officer and BJP leader K. Annamalai. Driven by an evident agenda to curry favor with the DMK, Prakash absurdly alleged that Annamalai was rewarded with a position in the BJP for allegedly covering up mass burials at the Dharmasthala temple, a case now under the scrutiny of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Karnataka government to probe claims of secret burials at the pilgrimage site.

Prakash alleged that Annamalai was inducted into the BJP to cover up a mass burial scandal at the Dharmasthala temple in Karnataka a claim that not only lacks any basis in fact but reeks of deliberate political slander.

In a social media post, dated 22 July 2025, Prakash wrote, “Arun, a Tamilian from Trichy, who has taken charge as the SP of Dakshina Kannada district, has submitted a report to the Chief Minister stating that 13 bodies were initially buried at the Dharmasthala temple, where 400 women were allegedly killed and buried. Arun’s report, along with the protests led by lawyers under the leadership of former Supreme Court Justice Gopal Gowda, has shaken Siddaramaiah (the Chief Minister). A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising 4 IPS officers, led by ADGP Pranav Mohanda, will begin digging from tomorrow to ascertain if bodies are buried in Dharmasthala. Arun’s current position was previously held by another Tamilian, K. Annamalai. He was inducted into the BJP because he hid the bodies! Truth will not die.”

This narrative is completely fictional and defamatory. The claim that Annamalai was involved in any such cover-up is false and appears to be a malicious fabrication designed to tarnish the reputation of a respected former police officer and a rising political leader.

To set the record straight:

  • K. Annamalai, a 2011-batch IPS officer, was first posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Karkala sub-division in Udupi district in 2013.
  • He was later promoted to Superintendent of Police, Udupi, in 2015.
  • He served in Chikkamagaluru district for two years from 2016, and subsequently took over as DCP (South), Bengaluru, in 2018.
  • At no point did he serve in Dakshina Kannada district, nor is there any evidence linking him to the alleged incident.

Furthermore, there are no credible reports confirming that the current SP of Dakshina Kannada, Arun, submitted any such report to the Karnataka Chief Minister. This entire narrative appears to be yet another WhatsApp University-style hoax amplified by politically motivated individuals posing as journalists.

This episode reflects a disturbing trend in Tamil Nadu’s media space, where certain so-called journalists push politically charged fake news with the sole aim of serving the interests of a particular political faction – in this case, the DMK and its ecosystem.

Such baseless character assassinations against upright individuals like K. Annamalai only highlight the desperation of those who cannot win in the realm of facts and integrity.

Propagandist Damodaran Prakash?

Damodaran Prakash is a rabid Dravidianist who works for Nakkheeran which is an unofficial mouthpiece of the DMK. He is known for engaging in ultra low-level discourse by gossiping about sleaze of prominent personalities. In his X profile picture, he is seen with leftist-Dravidianist N. Ram of The Hindu Group.

Over 37 Lakh Dog Bite Cases And 54 Suspected Rabies Deaths Reported In 2024: Government

rabies dog bite

The central government reported on 22 July 2025 that more than 37 lakh instances of dog bites and 54 suspected cases of human rabies-related deaths were recorded across the country in 2024.

In a written response to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, S.P. Singh Baghel, stated that the figures were compiled by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) under the National Rabies Control Programme. According to the data, a total of 37,17,336 dog bite cases were registered in 2024, along with 54 suspected human rabies deaths.

Data From: PIB

Minister Baghel noted that the responsibility for managing stray dog populations lies with urban local bodies. Municipal authorities are implementing the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Programme, which aims to control the number of stray dogs through sterilization and anti-rabies vaccination.

He further added that the Central Government has notified the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. These rules emphasize humane population control through neutering and immunization against rabies.

In November 2024, the Ministry issued an advisory to all States, urging them to implement the ABC Programme through local governing bodies. This initiative is particularly focused on improving public safety and protecting children especially young ones from stray dog attacks.

The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has also released several advisories and guidelines to support these efforts. In response to complaints related to the feeding of community animals, AWBI communicates with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), Apartment Owners’ Associations (AOAs), or relevant local authorities to take suitable action.

From the fiscal year 2024–25 up to June 2025, AWBI has issued 166 such official letters, the minister added.

Keeladi Row: Centre Flags Flaws And Missing Details In Dravidianist Amarnath Ramakrishna’s Keeladi Report, Denies Asking For Revised Version

Putting a full stop to the ‘Dravidian propaganda‘ the Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on 21 July 2025 has highlighted several omissions in the Keeladi excavation report, submitted by lead archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna. The minister clarified that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had not requested any revised report from the Tamil Nadu state archaeology department.

Responding in the Lok Sabha to questions raised by DMK MPs Thamizhachi Thangapandian and Dayanidhi Maran, Shekhawat addressed concerns about the central government’s position on the findings from Keeladi. Thangapandian had asked whether the Centre had officially reviewed the report submitted in June.

According to Shekhawat, experts had identified several deficiencies in the report. These include the need to reclassify the cultural periods mentioned, redraw the village map, and revise technical details such as content, maps, drawings, contour lines, stratigraphy, and graffiti illustrations.

He reiterated ASI’s commitment to following proper scientific methods and legal procedures to ensure that the findings from Keeladi are documented accurately. “Expert opinions will be incorporated to produce an authentic and scientifically verified report,” Shekhawat stated.

Lead archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna declined to comment. However, his team said he had provided comprehensive documentation in both digital and physical formats and had addressed specific queries from the department on 23 May.

Shekhawat noted that experts believed the periodization proposed in the original report was flawed. They objected to the timeframe of 8th century BCE to 5th century BCE assigned to the earliest cultural layer, arguing that the dating was not substantiated. Experts suggested revising the chronology using more precise dating techniques like accelerator mass spectrometry. They also indicated that the sampling depths might not be adequate and stressed the need for marking excavation layers for consistent comparative analysis.

The minister confirmed that both the excavation conducted under the ASI and the submitted report are currently under review. He emphasized that no report has been formally rejected, and the archaeologist has been informed of the expert feedback, which is still being assessed.

Addressing the frequent transfers of Amarnath Ramakrishna who was moved three times in nine months Shekhawat said that such transfers are routine administrative decisions and not necessarily linked to excavation continuity.

In response to Dayanidhi Maran’s separate query, Shekhawat clarified that since 2018, the Tamil Nadu state archaeology department has independently overseen the Keeladi excavations, with no financial or operational support from the ASI, and reiterated that no revised report has been requested from them.

Residents Confront Jayankondam DMK MLA Over Contaminated Water Supply, He Angrily Grabs The Bottle And Throws It Away

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has strongly condemned DMK’s Jayankondam MLA, K.S.K. Kannan, following a viral video that sparked public outrage. The footage shows villagers confronting the MLA with a bottle of visibly contaminated drinking water, highlighting the poor water quality in their area. In response, Kannan is seen angrily grabbing the bottle, tossing it aside, and driving away, an act that has drawn widespread criticism from both the public and political figures.

Reacting to the incident, Annamalai took to his official X account to call out the MLA’s behavior. He stated, “For the past four years, residents of South Thadampettai Pudutheru village, located within the T. Palur Panchayat in Ariyalur District, have been supplied with extremely contaminated drinking water. Despite numerous petitions submitted by the public, even reaching the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), no action has been taken so far to provide clean drinking water. In this situation, when Mr. K.S.K. Kannan, the Jayankondam MLA, visited a nearby village today, some residents from the village attempted to show him the contaminated water from their village by bringing a bottle of it. However, the MLA humiliated the public, snatched the water bottle, threw it away, and drove off in his car. The public elected these representatives to fulfill their basic needs, not to humiliate them. What other job does Mr. K.S.K. Kannan have besides listening to the pleas of the public who have been suffering without clean drinking water for four years? Immediate action must be taken to provide clean drinking water to the villages under T. Palur Panchayat. Mr. K.S.K. Kannan should remember that without the votes of the people, there would be no position or respect before he humiliates them.”

Coalition Is About Cooperation: AIADMK Needs BJP’s Help In Southern Districts And Vice Versa

eps bjp coalition

AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) recently stirred debate with a remark during his speech, “Mr. Stalin, we are not fools. AIADMK will win with a majority and form the government independently. We will decide if we want an alliance or not. Though EPS later clarified that the alliance is intact 100% and will continue to be so, the comment has nonetheless created ripples potentially weakening the broader objective of unseating the DMK in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK appears to be overlooking some crucial political realities of the recent past. Under his leadership, the party no longer has the influential figures who once played a key role in unifying the AIADMK cadres at the ground level during the 2021 elections. Leaders like O. Panneerselvam, T.T.V. Dhinakaran, and V.K. Sasikala, who, under Jayalalithaa’s guidance, helped maintain the party’s stronghold in the southern regions of Tamil Nadu.

The results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections made it clear that the BJP has made significant strides in the southern belt, in many cases surpassing the AIADMK and relegating it to third place. In this context, for Palaniswami to assume that the large crowds attending his rallies are a reflection of his personal popularity or the continued appeal of MGR and Jayalalithaa’s legacy is a misreading of the ground reality. Mistaking this enthusiasm as a signal of guaranteed support could be a strategic misstep, especially when the party’s vote base is clearly shifting.

A Fragmented Past And The Missing Pillars

Since the 2021 Assembly elections, AIADMK has not been the unified force it once was under J. Jayalalithaa. Key leaders like O. Panneerselvam, T.T.V. Dhinakaran, and V.K. Sasikala once instrumental in holding the southern vote base together are now either sidelined or in opposition to the EPS-led faction. The absence of these Thevar community heavyweights has severely weakened AIADMK’s hold in the south.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the consequences of this fragmentation became evident. The BJP, allied with OPS and Dhinakaran, made significant inroads in southern districts, often pushing the AIADMK to a distant third position in constituencies such as Tirunelveli, Theni, Kanyakumari, and Madurai.

EPS’s interpretation of the large public turnout at his rallies as a direct endorsement of his leadership or the AIADMK’s legacy (through MGR and Jayalalithaa) is misleading. The political landscape has changed, and crowd size does not necessarily reflect electoral strength especially when party structure, leadership appeal, and social coalition have become fractured.

AIADMK’s Shrinking Footprint Down South

The erosion of support in the south is not accidental it’s structural. The AIADMK, under EPS, is increasingly perceived as a Gounder-dominated party, alienating the Thevar community that once formed the party’s southern backbone. EPS’s refusal to reconcile with leaders like OPS and Dhinakaran despite internal calls from veterans such as K.A. Sengottaiyan, Natham Viswanathan, SP Velumani, and C.V. Shanmugam has only deepened the divide.

On 7 July 2024, six senior leaders reportedly met with EPS in Salem, urging him to reunify the party and reconcile with estranged factions. However, EPS firmly rejected any merger or reconciliation, choosing instead to chart a solo course. This decision, critics argue, risks ceding further ground to rivals in southern Tamil Nadu. This naturally positions the AIADMK to rely on an alliance with the BJP whose influence in the south is steadily growing along with the supportive alliance of O. Panneerselvam and T.T.V. Dhinakaran, to regain its footing and remain competitive in the southern regions of Tamil Nadu.

BJP’s Strategic Rise In The South

The 2024 general elections proved to be a wake-up call for the AIADMK. While the DMK-led alliance swept all 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, it was the BJP not the AIADMK that emerged as the runner-up in several southern constituencies. The saffron party’s ability to consolidate anti-DMK votes thanks to its alliance with OPS, Dhinakaran’s AMMK, and the PMK allowed it to outperform the AIADMK in at least a dozen southern and central constituencies.

The BJP secured 11.24% of the vote share on its own, and the NDA collectively pulled in 18.27%, pushing the AIADMK to third and even fourth position in districts where it once dominated. The AIADMK’s overall vote share dropped from 30.56% in 2019 to 20.46% in 2024, and it lost deposits in seven key constituencies, including South Chennai, Kanyakumari, Puducherry, and Thoothukudi.

This vote drift has made one fact abundantly clear, in the south, the BJP is fast becoming the primary opposition force, while the AIADMK continues to bleed support.

Anti-Incumbency Against DMK: A Wasted Opportunity?

Public dissatisfaction with the ruling DMK government has been steadily growing. The anti-incumbency mood presents a ripe opportunity for the opposition but only if it unites. If the anti-DMK vote continues to splinter among AIADMK, BJP, NTK, and emerging players like Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the ruling party could retain power despite the public mood.

EPS’s comments that seemed to downplay or distance the BJP his party’s strongest ally in the south risk diluting the alliance’s collective impact. Many within the AIADMK see the alliance with the BJP as critical, not just tactically but strategically, to prevent vote division and challenge the DMK’s dominance.

Even prominent AIADMK figures like former Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy have called for a return to MGR-style politics forming pragmatic alliances to defeat a common political opponent. Given the current scenario, that common enemy is clearly the DMK.

The Path Ahead

EPS finds himself at a critical juncture. His refusal to engage with former allies and his ambiguous remarks about AIADMK’s need for an alliance could jeopardize the party’s chances in 2026. While projecting strength and independence may resonate with party loyalists, the numbers show that without a broader alliance especially with the BJP and southern powerbrokers like OPS and Dhinakaran AIADMK’s chances of regaining power are slim.

The question isn’t whether AIADMK wants the BJP. The question is: can it afford not to?

In southern Tamil Nadu, the reality is stark the AIADMK needs the BJP and its allies far more than the BJP needs them. If EPS fails to recognize this and continues to alienate potential partners, the party risks further decline, ceding its traditional strongholds to both the BJP and the DMK.

“Have Some Decorum, He’s Still A Judge”: Chief Justice Of India Warns Lawyer While Dismissing Petition Against High Court Judge Yashwant Varma Who Faces Impeachment For Hoarding Piles Of Cash At His Home

On 21 July 2025, the Supreme Court expressed strong disapproval after a lawyer referred to Justice Yashwant Varma currently serving in the Allahabad High Court and facing serious allegations in a cash seizure case without using the formal title of “Justice.”

Justice Varma is at the center of a controversy stemming from a fire at his official residence in March, where large amounts of cash were reportedly recovered. Following the incident, he was transferred from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court and is currently facing proceedings related to his possible removal.

During the 21st July hearing, advocate Mathews J. Nedumpara mentioned a petition seeking the registration of an FIR against Justice Varma before a bench comprising Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran.

However, while making his submissions, Nedumpara repeatedly referred to the judge simply as “Varma,” prompting a sharp response from the bench. When Nedumpara attempted to proceed with his arguments, saying “This is the third writ petition,” the court interjected, warning, “You want it to be dismissed right now?” and added,Have some decorum… Is he your friend? He is still Justice Verma. How do you address him? Have some decorum. You are referring to a learned judge. He is still a judge of the court,” it said.

Despite the warning, Nedumpara insisted that an FIR must be filed in connection with the case. The bench, however, remained firm on the need for maintaining courtroom etiquette and respectful references to judges.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also echoed the court’s sentiments, stating that Justice Varma must be addressed with the appropriate title, regardless of the allegations. Nedumpara’s petition seeks directions to the Delhi Police to initiate a criminal investigation into the cash haul, arguing that a formal FIR and subsequent probe are necessary.

Justice Varma, for his part, has filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging the actions taken against him. He contends that the initiation of removal proceedings was unconstitutional, pointing out that it was launched without any formal complaint. He is also contesting the letter sent on 8 May 2025, by then Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna to the President and Prime Minister recommending his removal.

Earlier, on 22 March 2025, CJI Khanna had constituted a three-judge panel to examine the matter. The committee, led by Justice Sheel Nagu (Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court), included Justice G.S. Sandhawalia (Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court) and Justice Anu Sivaraman (Judge, Karnataka High Court).

Justice Varma’s plea seeks to invalidate the committee’s formation and the subsequent recommendation, calling both actions procedurally flawed and unconstitutional. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have reportedly received notices initiating impeachment proceedings against him.
