Journalists of The Hindu and The Wire indulge in derogating Hindu God Hanuman

Coming within days after the Hindustan Times journalist’s tweet on Hindu God Krishna, journalists of The Wire and The Hindu took their turn to mock Hindu Gods. Suprakash Majumdar, a freelance journalist with The Wire tweeted that “Lord Hanuman had a gay crush Lord Rama.”

He tweeted “I think Hanuman had a gay crush on Ram. What do you guys think?”

Suchitra a journalist from The Hindu responded to the tweet in which she took a dig saying that Hindus will now and claim that they are the most tolerant religion and asked Majumdar to not give them ‘ammunition’.

Both Suprakash Majumder and Suchitra had worked with Congress mouth piece National Herald.

Netizens soon took objection to the tweets and started demanding action against the two.

Earlier, Srishti Jaiswal of Hindustan Times tweeted that Lord Krishna was a ‘womanizer’, ‘fuckboi’ and a ‘commitment phobic maniac’.

She was suspended from the news agency and later tendered an apology in which she said that she did not intend to hurt religious sentiments of anybody.

Both Majumder’s and Suchitra’s twitter account have been deactivated.

Portals like the The Wire frequently indulge in attacking Hinduism, Hindus and Hindu Festivals. The Wire had called Holi as a festival that perpetuated rape culture, Deebavali was attributed for rising air pollution and Jallikattu was called as an event of animal abuse and machismo.

DMK holds party meeting in govt building

A meeting of the DMK youth wing was reportedly held on July 2 at the official of the MLA provided by the state government in Chengam near Tiruvannamalai.

Rules mandate that an MLA cannot use the office complex provided to him/her for holding party meetings, party campaigns, etc. All MLAs are aware of this.

However, it seems like the DMK MLA from Chengam M.P. Giri has flouted these rules by arranging a meeting of the cadres of DMK Youth Wing at his office.

Dalit leader Ma Venkatesan had posted on his facebook urging the Chief Minister to take action.

“The Chief Minister’s Office should take action on this. Or will the BJP allowed to hold a meeting there?”, he asked.

India’s Shukrayaan will help Swedish Institute of Space Physics explore Venus for the second time

The Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) will explore the Venus for the second time on board the India Venus mission Shukrayaan-1. IRF’s satellite instrument Venusian Neutrals Analyzer (VNA) will study how the charged particles from the sun interact with the atmosphere and exosphere of the planet.

IRF’s ASPERA (Analyzes of Space Plasma and EneRgetic Atoms) on board the European spacecraft Venus Express had studied the planet’s plasma properties between 2006-2014. It also analysed neutral atoms that escape into space from the atmosphere.

By analyzing energetic neutral atoms (ENAs) we know the interaction between the charged particles from the sun and (solar wind) and the atmosphere of Venus.

Yoshifumi Futaana, Associate Professor, IRF said, “Venus is the twin of our earth, but is very different. The atmosphere is dense, hot but waterless. Water existed 4 billion years ago when Venus was formed, but it is lost, maybe to space. This water escapes to space due to solar wind as proved by ASPERA-4.”

SARA (Sub-keV Atom Reflecting Analyzer), first generation instrument consisted of two sensors. One was a detector of energetic neutral atoms and the other was an instrument to measure the flow of ions in the solar wind. SARA was the first collaborative project between IRF and ISRO. The first generation SARA was used in Chandrayaan 1.

IRF’s satellite on Shukrayaan 1 will be part of a larger Indian contingent.

The launch of Shukrayaan-1 is scheduled in the second half of 2023 from Sriharikota.

Parents of the students studying in the Vibgyor School located in Horamavu in Bengaluru have got the ultimatum to pay the fees of their children in the given time period.

The school authorities have sent a circular to the student’s parents that clearly threatens them to pay the fees stating that not doing so would result in the enrolment of their children in the school be discontinued.

In this relation, the school authorities have denied taking any action related to the fees and said that this matter will be sorted by the private discussion of the school management and the student’s parents. It is still not clear whether the school has approved any concession to the parents who are not in the state to pay their children’s fees.

It is to be noted that the state government had asked the school not to hike the fees of the students this year. The government had also said that schools are to collect fees only from willing parents and arrangements be made for those families affected economically due to the corona virus and lockdown.

Supermarkets remove coconut goods off shelves after discovering they had used ‘monkey labourers’

A number of supermarkets in the UK removed coconuts and related goods from their shelves, after getting to know that they had been picked by ‘monkey labourers’ who had been exploited for this purpose. The monkeys had allegedly been ‘snatched’ from the wild and trained to pick coconuts, by a company in Thailand.

In a tweet earlier on Friday, the British Prime Minister’s fiancée Carrie Symonds, a conservationist, called on all supermarkets to boycott the products. Waitrose, Ocado, Co-op and Boots vowed to stop selling some goods following this revelation.

Over 100 pig-tailed macaques that had been held captive were released after the discovery of them having been used as  ‘coconut picking machines’. While male monkeys could pick over 1,100 coconuts in a day, the female ones’ count was relatively less.

PETA had discovered over 8 farms in Thailand that had bred monkeys for this purpose. It said it also discovered “monkey schools”, where the animals were trained to pick fruit, as well as ride bikes or play basketball for the entertainment of tourists. “The animals at these facilities – many of whom are illegally captured as babies – displayed stereotypic behaviour indicative of extreme stress,” PETA said in a statement.

It was also revealed that Thailand has reportedly started sterilising hundreds of monkeys in Lopburi province, which is famous for the macaque population, as the animals have been turning aggressive and hungry amid COVID-19 lockdown.
