Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Davos Dialogue on Thursday via video conferencing. He spoke on the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution – using technology for the good of humanity’. Prime Minister also interacted with top corporate CEOs during the event.

Bringing the message of confidence, positivity and hope from 1.3 billion Indians amidst these times of apprehension, PM Modi told the gathering that despite initial misgivings about India’s capacity to handle the COVID-19 pandemic, India has moved forward with proactive approach. India has worked on strengthening COVID specific health infrastructure, trained its human resource to tackle the pandemic and used technology in testing and tracking of COVID cases. In India, the fight against the coronavirus was turned into a people’s movement and India has succeeded in saving as many lives of its citizens as possible, he said. India’s success has global implications as 18 percent of the world population live here, and effective containment here saved humanity from a very big tragedy, said the Prime Minister.

Modi also talked about the world’s biggest vaccination drive and India’s global efforts during the pandemic. He talked about the evacuation of citizens when air space was closed and the supply of medicines from India to more than 150 countries. He stated that India is helping countries with online training, knowledge of traditional knowledge, vaccines and vaccine infrastructure. He informed the audience that apart from the two current made-in-India vaccines, more vaccines are in the pipeline, which will enable India help the world at a greater scale and speed.

The Prime Minister also informed the forum about steps being taken on the economic front. He said that India has maintained economic activity by starting infrastructure projects worth billions of rupees and initiating special schemes for employment. Earlier we focused on saving lives, he said, while now everyone is focussed on the growth of the country. India’s ambition of self-reliance will strengthen globalism anew and will help in Industry 4.0, Modi noted.

He further asserted that India is working on all the four factors of Industry 4.0 — connectivity, automation, artificial intelligence or machine learning and real-time data. India is among the countries where data charges are the cheapest and mobile connectivity and smart phones have reached far and wide. India’s automation design expert pool is vast and the country has made a mark in the field of AI and machine learning. Growing digital infrastructure has made digital solutions everyday part of life in India, he said.

Modi went on to state that today 1.3 billion Indians have universal ID  — Aadhar  — which is connected to their bank account and phone number. In December of 2020 itself, there has been ₹4 trillion worth of transactions through UPI. India could transfer ₹1.8 trillion worth of assistance through direct benefit transfer to the accounts of 760 million Indians during the pandemic. Digital infrastructure has made public service delivery efficient and transparent, he added. India has started a campaign for providing easy access to healthcare by giving Unique Health ID to its citizens, he further informed the gathering at WEF, Davos.

PM Modi went on to assure the forum that India’s Aatamnirbhar Bharat (Self -Reliant India) movement is committed to global good and maintaining the global supply chain. India has the capacity, capability and reliability to strengthen global supply chain, he said. Its massive consumer base will further grow and help the global economy, he assured the forum.

Modi also spoke about the continued emphasis on reforms and incentive based stimulus in India. Structural reforms during times of the pandemic have been supported by production-linked incentives, he said. India offers ease of doing business, as there is a predictable and friendly environment from tax regime to FDI norms. And to top it all, India is matching its growth with the goals of climate change, he added.

Furthermore, he cautioned that technology should become a tool of ease of living, and not a trap.

During the question-answer session, Prime Minister Modi explained to Joe Kaeser, President & CEO, Siemens, the contours of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign and said that making India a manufacturing and export hub is a big part of that vision. He also invited the global players to take advantage of the $26 billion production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes. Replying to Bjorn Rosengren, CEO, ABB, Modi listed out the ongoing infrastructure projects in the country and informed the gathering that under the National Infrastructure pipeline, projects worth $1.5 trillion will be implemented in the country in the next five years.  To Ajay S Banga, CEO, Mastercard, Modi elaborated on the massive financial inclusion that has taken place in the country in the recent times and the steps that were undertaken to strengthen the MSME sector. In a reply to an observation from Arvind Krishna of IBM, he emphasized the depth of Digital India. He affirmed that the country’s digital profile has completely transformed. The government’s vision is to transform the country through access, inclusion and empowerment while ensuring the privacy of the user, he declared. To Nobuhiro Endo, Chairman of the Board, NEC Corporation, PM Modi described India’s approach towards opportunities created by urbanization. India is focussing on sustainable urbanization with focus on ease of living, ease of doing business and climate sensitive development, he explained. This commitment has led to an investment of $150 billion in urban India from 2014 to 2020, he specified.

KVIC revives Assam’ oldest Khadi Institution vandalized by Bodo insurgents 30 years ago

One of the oldest Khadi institutions in Assam, which remained in a vandalized state bearing the scars of Bodo insurgency for over 30 years, has been brought back to life by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The Khadi workshed at village Kawali in Baksa district of Assam, which was burnt down by Bodo insurgents in 1989, has been revived as a Silk reeling center by KVIC. Spinning and weaving activities will restart at the workshed with 15 women artisans and 5 other staffs in the second week of February.

The workshed was constructed by a Khadi institution called Tamulpur Anchalik Gramdan Sangh which shifted to Assam from Arunachal Pradesh following the Chinese aggression in 1962. It began operations with mustard oil production and by the year 1970, spinning and weaving activities also started there providing livelihood to 50 artisan families. However, tragedy struck when the institution was burnt down by extremists in 1989 and it remained defunct since then.

KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena said the revival of this Khadi workshed assumed historical significance and that resumption of Khadi activities would create employment for the locals. “To begin with, KVIC will develop this unit for reeling of elegant Eri Silk of Assam. Other Khadi activities like manufacturing of village industry products will also be started in future. This center will become a major employment creator for the local artisans,” Saxena said.”This initiative is aligned with Khadi’s core Gandhian principle of “rural resurgence” which also coincides with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision – Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas,” Saxena added.

This Khadi workshed is located 90 km from Guwahati. The workshed has been refurbished with the financial assistance from KVIC. The idea behind the workshed scheme is to provide better working condition to the Khadi artisans that will ultimately improve their productivity. In recent years, KVIC has revived several such Khadi institutions in states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Odisha and Tamil Nadu that were lying defunct for many decades.

The News Minute admits report was false after Republic TV sends legal notice

A compelling legal notice sent to The News Minute by Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV has forced the Dhanya Rajendran-led digital news platform to hastily admit an error in their report regarding the Mumbai Police’s ongoing investigations into the alleged TRP scam and Republic TV’s viewership ratings.

Titled, “Explainer: BARC audit report shows employees colluded to change channel ratings” and published on 26 January 2021 by The News Minute, the report takes special pains to indirectly insinuate a link between Republic and Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) CEO Partho Dasgupta.

The BARC report of July 2020 does not mention any specific exchanges with Republic which may lead to a conclusion on alleged TRP manipulation. Yet, The News Minute, in an attempt to prejudice the public against Republic TV, published a mischievous report.

Through the legal notice, Republic TV has sought an unconditional apology, removal of The News Minute‘s false news report, an immediate clarification regarding the news report and publishing of the full statement released by Republic. The notice also asks The News Minute to cease-and-desist from publishing any content on matters sub judice, from publishing any defamatory content against Republic without any corroboration and evidence , and from selectively reporting on the alleged TRP scam.

The legal notice also asked The News Minute to issue a corrigendum on all print and digital platforms, including their official social media platforms. The News Minute has done this on Twitter, as seen from their tweet.

“Corrigendum: A section in the article said that the BARC Audit report came to a conclusion on the basis of Partho Dasgupta’s exchanges with Arnab Goswami. This was an error. The conclusion was based on exchanges between Partho Dasgupta and several people in BARC and three emails he sent Arnab Goswami before the launch of Republic TV. The error is regretted,” The News Minute tweeted.

After The News Minute acknowledged their false and insinuating report, Republic TV took to Twitter as well. Quoting The News Minute‘s tweet, Republic TV tweeted, “This is in response to a legal notice we served today to @thenewsminute  through our lawyer Tanmaya Mehta on the false reporting in @thenewsminute trying to falsely & maliciously concoct a story about findings on Mr Dasgupta to any specific “exchanges” with Mr Goswami.”

Rajdeep quits India Today after channel takes him off air for peddling fake news

If reports are to be believed,  India’s foremost ‘journalist’ Rajdeep Sardesai has quit India Today hours after the channel took him off air and reprimanded him by cutting a month’s salary for misreporting on a farmer’s death that led to violence and injury to several police officers in Delhi on 26 January.

On January 26, Sardesai during one of his new broadcast said Navneet Singh, a farmer, had been killed in police firing and to compound to this unverified report he also sent out a tweet.

Sardesai also made the same claim during his live coverage on India Today on January 26. Speaking to the channel’s reporter Ankit Tyagi, Sardesai had said: “There is the dead body, which was shown to me of an individual who is allegedly Navneet Singh, 24 years old, was reportedly driving the tractor, comes from Western UP, and because he has been shot in the head…suffered a bullet injury which has resulted in his death.“

Navneet who had died because he drove his tractor rashly, was hailed by Sardesai and had said ‘he has now become a symbol now and it is because of his death that had “sparked an angry reaction’.

However, the Delhi police which was at the receiving end of the farmer protest fury, released video footage of a tractor, reportedly being driven by Singh, ramming into police barricades and in that video one can clearly see the tractor overturned that led to Navneet Singh getting hurt seriously and later succumbed to his injuries.

Later to cover for his horrible news reporting, Sardesai tweeted the video, adding that the police showed “great restraint” with “no evidence of bullets fired” and explained his error during his show on the night of January 26.

He said: “These were the allegations that were being made at the time when we were reporting this afternoon. The eyewitnesses and the friends of the deceased, when we spoke to them, they were insistent that a shot had been fired and the tractor overturned because a shot was fired…However, the police version, and particularly the video, makes it very clear that the particular act of the tractor overturning could be the cause of death…The police version appears more credible than what the farm protesters are claiming.”

As per Delhi Police, Navneet Singh’s post-mortem report has confirmed he died of injuries sustained from the accident. Also, there are reports that are still to be verified that the protesters may have also tried to stop emergency aid from reaching the accident victim.

Leopards to get only crumbs, VCK’s Thiruma in shock

"Not Merely Seat Share, We Need Power Share": Thirumavalavan's X Handle Shares Old Speech And Deletes Later, Claims It Was His Admin

The parties in the DMK alliance are biting their nails over how many seats they will be getting to contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The DMK district secretaries are of the view that the party should not end up giving a large number of seats to the coalition parties and contest in the maximum number of seats possible. Sources say that Prashant Kishor, the DMK’s election strategist has apparently told DMK chief MK Stalin that the DMK would win the elections comfortably. He is said to have advised the Stalin that the party should contest in 200 constituencies to emerge victorious.

Following this, reports came that the parties in the DMK alliance like the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) and the Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK) are being urged to contest under the ‘rising sun’ symbol.

A few days ago VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan had stated that the VCK ‘had choice but no compulsion’ to contest under DMK’s symbol. However, he later tweeted saying that he never said that the VCK would ‘definitely contest under the DMK symbol’.

In the midst of this, an ‘important person’ from the DMK is said to have met Thol. Thirumavalavan on behalf of M.K. Stalin. During the meeting, the ‘important person’ is said to have told the VCK chief that the DMK should have formed the government in 2016 with Kalaignar Karunanidhi as Chief Minister but missed it because of various reasons that includes the People’s Welfare Front of which Thol. Thirumavalavan’s VCK was part of. He is said to have pointed out sternly that the DMK lost its chance of coming to power in 2016 because Thol. Thirumavalavan played spoilsport and that the DMK chief was still unhappy about it. “Despite that, the DMK had given 2 seats for the VCK during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.”, the ‘important person’ is said to have told Thirumavalavan.

Apparently, Thirumavalavan  has been told that there are some practical difficulties in allocating seats to alliance parties and that the VCK would be given only 2 seats for which the VCK leader has no choice but to agree. He is said to have told him that the election expenses for the 2 constituencies would be borne by the DMK.

A shocked and disappointed Thirumavalavan is said to have conveyed to the ‘important person’ that the VCK had held various protests across the state and has been strengthening the party. “Many brothers are putting a lot of pressure on me for contesting in the elections. How can two be enough in this situation? We need at least 10 seats,” Thirumavalavan is said to have told the ‘important person’.

It is expected that the VCK chief would be meeting M.K. Stalin in this regard soon.

According to Indore’s Deputy General Inspector of Police HN Mishra, the Kaushal couple have been booked under sections 3 and 5 of Madhya Pradesh’s Freedom of Religion Ordinance.

As of now, nine people have been named in the FIR and all of them have been sent to judicial custody after being produced in the court on Wednesday.

The complainant has alleged that some women even physically asaulted her in the ceremony. She further stated in the FIR, “They were forcing people to convert to Christianity. I am Hindu by religion but my parents and others were forcing me to convert. Like me, there were two more people, who were being forced for conversion.”

When the news of the forced Christian conversions reached the Bajrang Dal, its workers arrived at the site to discover that a mass conversion program was going on.

DIG HN Mishra also added, “We are also investigating to know whether it was a mass conversion programme or not as most of the participants were Hindu.”
