Islamophobia and the Victim Narrative: How the Liberal-Left faces inconvenient facts

There is growing outrage in the United States over how the media has handled the Boulder mass shooting that was carried out by a Muslim immigrant from Syria named Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa.

Immediately after the shooting, prominent Americans with a large presence on social media jumped to the conclusion that the attack was carried out by a white man. To be more precise, they claimed that the perpetrator of the shooting was a white supremacist. However, the moment the name of the shooter was revealed, there was absolute silence.

Victims of Boulder shooting

The liberal media is now working on an angle of mental health issues and the lack of gun control, which is apparently what led to the shootout that killed ten people, including a police officer at a Kings Sooper grocery store in Boulder, Colorado. But the most prominent spin to give covering-fire to the killer’s motive is the narrative of Islamophobia, which not only made the Boulder shooting disappear from the American news-cycle but also the shooter’s anti-Trump and pro-Muslim posts on Facebook. The 21 year-old shooter’s Facebook has since been deleted.

For a long time, the American media and its various offshoots around the globe have lost their sense of bearing. All media is about narratives, and this has only amplified after Donald Trump became the US President.

The likes of CNN, MSNBC and other left-leaning news outlets literally stopped talking about the Boulder shooting ― unlike other mass shootings that received 24/7 coverage ― once their narrative of a white supremacist shooter fell apart.

What is more interesting is that the shooter Aliwi Alissa was on the radar of the FBI, but still managed to pass a background check to purchase a firearm.

America may have a problem with gun violence but this incident is not about gun control. Several Democrat lawmakers are also strong advocates of the First Amendment which gives Americans the right to bear arms. The ugly subterfuge in this tragedy is the sinister and cowardly act of trying to cover the crime of an individual who happens to be a Muslim.

Apologist for Islamic terrorism Congresswomen Ilhan Omar, in a tweet, said “The shooter’s race or ethnicity seems front and center when they aren’t white”. Vice President Kamala Harris’s niece, Meena Harris had to delete her tweets when she jumped the gun and tweeted that the shooter had to be white.

But what is even more fascinating is that the colour of the skin of this shooter has now become the focal point of discussion. Under normal circumstances, Aliwi Alissa would be considered Caucasian. So, some Muslim commentators are saying that Aliwi Alissa is white and hence the mass shooting must be treated as an attack carried out by white supremacist.

‘Muslim feminist’ and co-founder of the Women’s March, Linda Sarsour, tweeted, “No, I didn’t want the Boulder Police to murder the shooter. I want him to be held accountable. Even this mass murderer deserves due process. I wish Police would treat Black people the same. Time & time again, police prove that they can take in a suspect alive even when armed”, giving a new twist to the crime and scoring major points with liberals.

Tariq Allah Nasheed, an American film producer and social media commentator, said, “White supremacists are trying their hardest to deflect from the fact the Boulder suspect is WHITE. Syrians in America are legally, politically & socially WHITE. Their white status is well documented in court cases Terms like “muslim”, “Arab”, “islamic” doesn’t change whiteness”.

Nasheed had once termed black women who date interracially as “bed wenches”, a historically derogatory term to describe black women who were raped by their white masters during slavery.

There is also a cleanup job being done on Aliwi Alissa’s social media accounts. His Facebook account, where he proclaimed himself a faithful Muslim and shared a lot of pro-Muslim posts, now stands deleted. It appears that he had imbibed the narrative of being a Muslim victim who lived in a white supremacist America, which is enough to arouse sympathy in this era of cancel culture and hard-left political correctness.

Reports also confirm that the shooter was sympathetic to the terrorist organisation ISIS.

It seems if a Muslim commits an act of terror, it is because he is persecuted and his actions are therefore righteous. However, if the shooting had been done by a white man, it is white supremacy and racial terrorism.

The fact of the matter is one must not make false equivalency when it comes to hate crimes because the killing of innocent people by anyone, no matter which religion or race they belong to, should be seen as an act of terror. One must not obfuscate.

In India, the media is quite good at making the aggressor a victim if they happen to be a Muslim and salivates at the prospect of a Hindu carrying out an act of violence.

Both the left media in India and the US have now become amped up ambulance-chasers who make news but not report it.

Angela Merkel backs down, reverses 5-day Easter lockdown

Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel backed down on Wednesday and reversed the 5 day Easter lockdown that she had earlier imposed on the country due to the increasing COVID cases. She went on to call the plan a “mistake”, and said that she took “ultimate responsibility” for the U-turn.

“This mistake is mine alone,” Mrs Merkel told reporters in Berlin. “The whole process has caused additional uncertainty, for which I ask all citizens to forgive me.” “There were good reasons for it but it could not be implemented well enough in this short time,” she added.

Many are commenting that Merkel was losing her touch and asked her to step down after this decision was announced. It is to be noted that only on Tuesday, she had announced about this lockdown. The guidelines of the imposed lockdown stated that almost all shops will be closed over the Easter period from April 1 to 5, and no more than five people over the age of 14 from two households can gather. Grocery stores would be allowed to open for one day only, on Saturday, April 3.

Notably, Germany has recorded more than 74,000 Covid-19 deaths since the pandemic began, and Merkel has said the country is experiencing a third wave of infections.

The Delhi High Court on 23 March granted police protection to the Muslim-Hindu couple after a violent Muslim mob attacked the Hindu colony in which the couple lived.

The attack came as a response to the marriage of a 22-year-old Hindu man and a 19-year-old Muslim woman. The woman had willingly converted to the Hindu religion and married the man from the Valmiki community.

On the night of 20 March, the Muslim mob attacked Hindu houses in the Muslim-dominated Sarai Kale Khan area of Delhi.

According to the victim’s sister and other women of the neighbourhood, the Muslim men tried to enter the houses inhabited by Hindu families and tried to molest the women and the girls. “If a Hindu takes one of our girls, we will carry away all the girls from you”, the Muslim men had allegedly shouted.

Hindus threatened with ‘khoon ki holi’

A single-judge Bench of Justice Anu Malhotra sought a status report from the Delhi Police in the matter.

Fearing another violent attack in the near future which could lead to disturbance of public peace, the couple and the boy’s family members had moved the High Court for appropriate directions.

On the intervening night of March 20-21, a Muslim mob attacked the boy’s home, hurled casteist remarks and even threatened to kill them all.

“..CCTV footage of the area shows mob entering the narrow lanes and breaking pots and coolers, pelting stones and banging on doors to threaten the Petitioner No. 2 (boy), his family and neighbours..a woman named Sabina had threatened local Hindus with ‘khoon ki holi’ remarks in the morning of 2.03.2021 and came with a full group of Muslim men later in the night,” the petition filed by the couple said.

The petitioners also informed the Court that they had demanded police action against Sabina. However, no arrest was made.

The petitioners have inter alia sought a court-monitored investigation into the incident, under the provisions of the SC/ST Act.

Delhi Police informed the Court that provision for offences under the SC/ST Act have been added to the FIR and adequate protection would be provided to the couple. It was added that two platoons of police force and two pickets have been posted outside the house of couple.

Advocate Monika Arora with advocates Manish Kumar, Riddhima Gaur, Akash Vajpai and Manish Kumar appeared for the petitioners. Additional Standing Counsel Nandita Rao appeared for State.

NIA court rejects Stan Swamy bail plea in Elgar Parishad case, finds enough evidence for “serious conspiracy”

Stan Swamy

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has refused bail to 83-year-old activist Stan Lourduswamy, popularly know as Stan Swamy, for his involvement in the Elgar Parishad-Maoists links case.

The court reached this decision based on the material on record that Stan Swamy had schemed a “serious conspiracy” with members of a banned Maoist organisation in order to create unrest in the country and to overthrow the government.

Special judge DE Kothalikar, who rejected Stan Swamy’s bail plea, observed that there is enough evidence to suggest Swamy was a member of a banned Maoist organisation.

The material that the court referred to included around “140 e-mails between the applicant (Stan Swamy) and his co-accused,” the fact that Stan Swamy and others he communicated with were referred to as “comrades”, and that Stan Swamy had received eight lakh from one “Comrade Mohan”, allegedly for the furtherance of Maoist activities.

“Prima facie it can be gathered that the applicant along with other members of the banned organisation hatched a serious conspiracy to create unrest in the entire country and to overpower the Government, politically and by using muscle power,” the order read.

“The material placed on record thus prima facie denote that the applicant was not only the member of banned organisation CPI (Maoist) but he was carrying out activities further in the objective of the organisation which is nothing but to overthrow the democracy of the nation,” said Justice Kothalikar in the order.

Stan Swamy was born in Trichy in Tamil Nadu. Later in life, he became a Roman Catholic priest of the Jesuit order.

Earlier, the Bombay High Court had granted bail on medical grounds to octogenarian Maoist ideologue Varavara Rao in the same case. It was a “genuine and fit” case for granting bail, the Bombay High Court had said, in view of Rao’s advanced age.

Dr Antara Banerjee conferred with SERB Women Excellence award for important contributions in the field of female reproduction

Dr. Antara Banerjee, a scientist in Structural Biology Division of National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Indian Council of Medical Research, Mumbai, who has contributed towards understanding the endocrinology in female reproduction that could be useful for assisted reproductive technologies, has received the SERB Women Excellence Award for 2021.

The award instituted by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), recognises and rewards outstanding research achievements of young women scientists in frontier areas of Science and Engineering.

Study of the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and its receptor (FSHR), proteins that play a central role in reproduction by bringing about formation of ova or egg in females.

The FSHR has intrigued Dr. Banerjee since long. In her doctoral thesis, she probed this hormone receptor that played a crucial role in mammalian reproduction. It later helped her identify residues in the extracellular loops of Follicle Stimulating Hormone Receptor (FSHR) that are crucial for FSH-FSHR interaction providing more information about the role of extracellular roles of G-protein coupled receptors in their function.

“I identified residues in the extracellular loops of FSHR crucial for the hormone-receptor interaction by generating and characterising mutants with respect to the Wild-type counterpart by a method called the site-directed mutagenesis approach,” Dr. Banerjee explained. She added that the functional characterization of two naturally occurring FSHR mutations was also carried out to help understand the pathophysiology associated with these mutations.

Her work has led to characterization of some naturally occurring mutations in FSHR that were responsible for affecting its function, thus resulting in reproductive pathologies.

Dr. Banerjee, along with her group, has initiated studies on understanding the biological milestone known as puberty–the process by which a child’s body matures into that of an adult capable of sexual reproduction. “Mutations in the neuropeptide hormone kisspeptin-1 or its receptor which can cause precocious (early) puberty will be studied in a collaborative work with a team consisting of basic scientists, pediatricians, as well as geneticist,” Dr. Banerjee pointed out.

Lathika Subhash, who shaved her head after Congress denied her ticket in Kerala polls, will now contest as independent candidate

Lathika Subhash Congress

More trouble has emerged for the beleaguered Congress Party in Kerala as its former Kerala Mahila Congress chief Lathika Subhash will now fight the election as an Independent from the Ettumanoor constituency.

Subhash had earlier shaved her head as a mark of protest after being denied the party ticket to contest the upcoming Kerala state assembly polls.

Lathika Subhash had gotten her head tonsured in front of the party office in Thiruvananthapuram on March 14. This unique form of protest by Subhash had received widespread attention across the country.

Subhash had accused the Congress party of not giving enough seats to women candidates and had pointed out that in the list of 86 candidates released by Congress, only were nine women.

“I am saddened by the candidate selection of KPCC. We sought for 20 per cent seats for women. But at least expected one woman candidate from each district. But those women leaders who used to work for the party have been totally ignored,” she told reporters outside the Congress office.

Kerala will go to the polls in a single phase on April 6 and the results will be out on May 2.

Faridabad fast track court convicts Tauseef for murdering Nikita Tomar

Nikita Tomar murder case

The district sessions court in Faridabad today (24 March) convicted prime accused Tauseef and his friend Rehan for the murder of 21-year old Nikita Tomar.

Tomar, who had refused Tauseef’s demands of converting to Islam and marrying him, was murdered in broad daylight. The murder was recorded on CCTV footage had sent shockwaves throughout the country.

The defence lawyers had earlier submitted that Tauseef was not present at the scene of the crime when Nikita was killed.

The Faridabad fast track court convicted Tauseef and his friend Rehan for killing the 21-year-old Hindu girl on October 26, 2020. The quantum of sentence for the convicts will be pronounced on Friday.

However, the court acquitted the third accused, Azruddin, who had supplied the gun that was used in the murder.

Few months prior to her murder, Tomar had filed a molestation complaint against Tauseef. The family had later dropped the case. Her family had alleged that Tauseef started hounding her again and pressuring her to convert to Islam.

It has been reported that Tauseef is the grandson of Kabir Ahmed, a Congress leader who was elected as an MLA from Haryana’s Nuh constituency in 1975 and from the Tauru constituency in 1982. Also, Tauseef’s late uncle Khurshid Ahmad was a Congress MP of Haryana and was an ex-Cabinet minister of Haryana.

The case attracted a lot of attention because the killer belonged to a very powerful and influential family and it was also a case of Love Jihad. Nikita, who had rebuffed Tauseef’s advances for a long time, was being pressured to convert to Islam which led to her death.

“Will take decision on Sabarimala after the SC verdict’, says Pinarayi; calls Congress BJP’s ‘B Team’

Congress Kerala BJP Pinarayi Vijayan

With the Kerala assembly elections only two weeks away, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that any decision on the Sabarimala issue will only be discussed after the Supreme Court delivers its final verdict.

The Sabarimala issue has become a huge issue of contention for the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The state government said that it will discuss the issue with Hindus, including those who have a difference in opinion, after the apex court verdict.

Vijayan, speaking to media persons in Malappuram during his campaign trail, said “Everything is going well. There is no need to discuss Sabarimala now. Now that the assembly election has come, some people have taken a keen interest in the shrine. Their purpose is clear. Just look at it as part of it. The issue was also raised during the local body elections”.

The Left had passionately supported the violation of the Sabarimala temple’s traditions, which has now become a big problem for them as Hindu voters are largely unhappy with the ruling party. Now the Communists are facing the real threat of losing power in Kerala to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Earlier, BJP leader R Balasahankar had claimed that there was a “deal between BJP and CPI(M) in some seats”. When asked about this allegation, Vijayan replied that Balashankar’s statement was an internal problems of his party and said that the Congress has become the ‘B Team’ of the BJP.

“We have heard the remark of BJP president that they will form a government if they can get 35 seats. Like in other states where Congress won, BJP is forming the government as Congress MLAs are joining BJP. Their intention is clear. Congress has become BJP’s B-Team across the country,” he said.

‘The biggest favour that the DMK can do to the people of TN is to not steal their land’: CM EPS

eps dmk

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisamy has appealed not only to vote for the AIADMK but also to chase away the DMK.

Addressing the public at a meeting on Tuesday, he said, “today, Tamil Nadu is becoming a successful state. Stalin cannot stand the success and hence he is screaming abuse against us.”

He continued, “the DMK announced in its 2006 election manifesto that 2 acres of land would be given to landless farmers. But no one was given land. It does not matter if the land is not provided, as long as they do not encroach on the land of the people. Even if there was valuable land somewhere, it was immediately expropriated by the DMK. That is why Puratchi Thalaivi Amma reclaimed the land confiscated by the DMK and handed it over to the rightful owners.”

He went on to say,  “If the DMK comes to power, law and order will be disrupted. During our rule, Tamil Nadu has become the primary state in maintaining law and order. We have received awards in various fields such as Water Management, Electricity, Transport, Local Government and Health. A military spare parts factory is coming up in Salem. Through this, we have created employment opportunities for tens of thousands of youth. We are also going to set up a textile park soon.”

He concluded by saying, “In the coming assembly elections, the DMK should be chased away, and the AIADMK should reign victorious again, and you, the people of Tamilnadu, should help us achieve that.”
