This November, Indian Americans are going red, Republican party internal survey reveals

Trump proposes replacing income tax with tariffs to boost US manufacturing

According to an internal research survey carried out by the Republican party, Indian Americans are expected to play a very important role in the battleground states when the US Presidential elections will be held in November. As per the survey, the Indian American community are supporting incumbent President Donald Trump.

A combination of 12 factors is driving this vote bank towards the Republican president. Indian Americans who traditionally voted for the democrats are now supporting Trump due to Trump’s friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his outreach and respect towards Indian Americans.

The survey was carried out by Al Mason, co-chair of the Trump Victory Indian American Finance Committee. From the survey, it was discovered that unlike the president’s predecessors and the current challenger, Joe Biden, Trump has stayed away from the internal affairs of India, in particular on issues like Kashmir. Also, Indian Americans feel Trump has been playing a visible role in elevating India’s stature on the world stage.

“Trump has elevated India’s stature on the world stage. Of course, due credit also goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his skilled policy towards the US. The India-US relationship has been rock solid. Kudos to the brilliance of both Trump and Modi for cementing the bond between India and US,” says the survey. “His family echoes the same sentiments,” it said.

“It is mostly about the Trump-Modi factor,” the survey said. Also, Indian Americans are deeply appreciative of Trump’s full-throated support for India as it is in the midst of a potentially deadly standoff against  China in the unforgiving Himalayan heights.

Other factors include Trump’ calling out China with regards to its inequitable trade policies, not starting a new war and America’s economic revival to the pre-COVID-19 era.

One part of the memo reads, “Every Indian American in the US has a family member back home like old parents, brother, sister, friend, business. They want India to be respected and protected from China, which is what Trump can provide. They fear that without Trump, China would start a war with India,”.

For the first time in US electoral politics, Indians will play a crucial role as they are in substantial numbers in “swing states” which will determine who will win in November.

According to the survey, Indian Americans comprise a substantial and potentially decisive share of the electorate:

  • 190,000 potential voters in Florida
  • 120,000 in Michigan
  • 170,000 in Pennsylvania
  • 150,000 in Georgia
  • 110,000 in North Carolina
  • 165,000 in Virginia
  • 470,000 in Texas

The survey results of Mason show, “This mass defection could add tens of thousands of new Trump voters in key battleground states and could very well end up helping to secure the president’s re-election,” said the survey. “Biden, Harris, Democrats and Trump haters fear Mason as he is the one who has orchestrated the mass exodus of Indian Americans in the battleground states towards Trump by his research, views and messaging,” said venture capitalist Sridhar Chityala, who is also a member of the Indian Voices for Trump.

“They fear him because the video ‘4 More Years’, conceptualised by him and launched by Kimberly Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr, has crossed the 10 million-mark and resonates with the community. Al Mason’s fundraising efforts also yield results,” said Chityala.

Centre for Equity Studies, NGO run by Harsh Mander received crores from Christians and Islamic donors

The Legal Rights Observatory (LRO), has exposed the funds received by ‘activist’ Harsh Mander who runs the NGO Centre for Equity Studies. LRO has found out about the deep nexus between European Catholic Church and anti-India activities in India.

Harsh Mander’s NGO Centre for Equity Studies (CES) has received crores from European Catholics and US-based Islamist organisations, the Legal Rights Observatorry (LRO) has revealed.

Harsh Mandar was the leading liberal activists famous for filing false cases against then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi for his involvement in the Godhra riots.

According to the LRO, Mandar has received crores from French and Danish Catholics, presumably to fuel unrest in like the Delhi anti-CAA riots of February 2020.

One of his donors is Comité Catholique Contre’s (CCFD-Terre solidaire) and as per the information available in its wikipedia page, says “It is The Catholic Committee against hunger and for development” but it has been found that there exists no evidence of Mander’s NGO working on hunger and development in India.

Instead, ‘Its core competency is #Hinduphobia n #HateIndia’, says LRO.

Another donor of CES is Action for Hope which claims to be “Leading Pan-Arab Cultural Organization”.  Another donor for CES is the US-based Indian Muslims Relief & Charity and UK based Minority Rights Group pumped that gave money to Harsh Mander during the peak anti-CAA/NRC protests.

The extensive and exhaustive investigation by LRO has further revealed that Oxfam India’s CEO Amitabh Behar is a treasurer of Mander’s NGO CES.

The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday (September 23) passed the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2020, that is set to bring about significant changes in foreign funding rules to ensure transparency and prevent misuse of the funds. The bill that was passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday was called by the CEO of Oxfam India as a ”devastating blow”. Many others from the NGO sector, academia and media have called the amendment ‘draconian’, ‘cumbersome’ and an attempt to ‘kill’ the sector.

LRO has said that the money received by Mandar and his gang was used for arranging legal/logistical help to arrested jihadis who took part in the Delhi Riot when US President Donald Trump was visiting India.

During the cold winter months in Delhi, Mandar had called on the youth protest against CAA and the videos of his speech had gone viral on social media that prompted an investigation over his role in instigating the mob and provoking radical Islamist youth and shielded arsonists and rioters.

This is how media played with the life of a bank employee for doing his job

On September 21, The New Indian Express (TNIE) had reported that a ’76 year old’ doctor was refused a loan by the branch manager of a public sector bank ‘allegedly’ for not knowing Hindi.

The ‘76 year old’ C. Balasubramanian, a retired employee of Jayankondam Government Hospital was quoted saying in the report that he had gone to the bank branch at Gangaikondacholapuram 10 days ago to seek loan for building a commercial complex on a piece of land that he owned and had met with the bank manager hailing from Maharashtra. The bank manager had supposedly asked Balasubramanian if he knew Hindi to which the latter had replied that he knew only Tamil and English, Balasubramaniam was quoted saying in the TNIE report. He added that the bank manager had refused to check the land documents saying that it was in Tamil. This had apparently resulted in a heated argument between the two, TNIE reported and quoted Balasubramanian saying that he was refused loan due to the language issue.

Following this, Balasubramanian had sent a legal notice to the bank’s manager that sought ₹1 lakh as compensation for undergoing ‘mental torture’ and that if the amount was not paid, he would be moving the Ariyalur district consumer court.

The report conveniently made the story one-sided by quoting the bank manager as saying that he was not allowed to talk to the media about the issue. Without much accounts to back and citing ‘local residents’, the report said that the incident was not an isolated one.

This news was carried in several other news outlets like The News Minute, Deccan Herald, etc and was sensationalized further by Tamil news channels trying to create a rhetoric of ‘Hindi imposition’. Only the Times of India had quoted the senior bank officials of the branch saying that the loan was denied because of the applicant’s age.

Sensing the opportunity to stoke language sentiments keeping the upcoming elections in mind, DMK chief MK Stalin pounced on the issue and put out a tweet the next day (September 22) saying that the bank officer had shown arrogance.

In his tweet, Stalin also threatened to incite violence and create unrest by saying “if you play with Tamil feelings, small sparks will catch fire. Be warned!”

PMK’s Dr. S. Ramadoss too jumped the bandwagon condemning the bank manager.

As the issue gained traction, the bank decided to transfer the bank manager immediately to Trichy to quell the issue. He has apparently been given a posting where he would not be required to directly communicate with customers.

While nobody is privy to the conversation between the branch manager and the said customer except for the person (Thambuswami, a civil engineer) who had reportedly accompanied Balasubramaniam, all the claims about the rejection of a loan allegedly due to ‘not knowing Hindi’ seem to be exaggerated half-truths. None of these media have delved into the basis of which loans are sanctioned.

It is to be noted that the said customer/account holder is 76 years old and a retired doctor which in itself acts as a double disadvantage to get loans and that too this being a business loan, any bank would take necessary precautions before lending. They would ask for collaterals and the assigning of a legal heir to secure the loan so that it does not become a non-performing asset. However, this ineligibility to get loan has been twisted and sensationalized into a language issue in order create north-south schisms.  None of the media has questioned or even highlighted these factors of not being eligible for the loan. One wonders what has stopped them from highlighting these. Is it the case that they are unaware or is it because it would make for a good story only when the bank official is targeted?

After this incident, the Chief Minister’s Cell has taken the matter to cognizance after which a police inquiry was done and a report has been submitted. Had it really been a serious matter, the manager would have been taken to task and not given another posting at some other branch in Tamil Nadu itself.

Now, imagine the plight of this manager. According to reports, this person who hails from Maharashtra has put up his family at Kumbakonam with both his children enrolled in a school in the temple town. In his around 2.5 years of service in the Gangaikondacholapuram branch, he does not have a single complaint levelled against him. Even the TNIE report had stated that the bank manager rarely interacted with the customers and that it was the assistant manager who handled most of them. This innocent bank manager has now been demonized by these media outlets and politicians. He still has years of service ahead and has been transferred to Trichy which is a 100 kms from Kumbakonam.

Those asking why are people from the north working in banks in rural areas don’t realize that recruitment to the post of officers in public sector banks happens on an all-India basis and there are enough number of candidates from the south placed in rural branches in states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, etc. As the southern states like Karnataka, Andhra, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu are found to be a more attractive for educational and other facilities many from the north are open about moving to southern states while those from Tamil Nadu due to their apprehension about Hindi mostly choose any one of the southern states.

There is a saying in Tamil that goes “Vandhaarai Vaazha Vaikkum Tamil Nadu”, meaning, “Tamil Nadu, the place that welcomes people and gives them livelihood”. Let us not make those arriving here for want of opportunities and better life to regret about their decision.

Kerala govt removes PwC from e-mobility project, Sprinklr contract extension cancelled

Following allegations of corruption, the Kerala government disbanded two firms it had on-boarded.

Consultancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers has been ousted by the Kerala state government from the e-mobility project stating that the action has been taken against the company as they did not submit the feasibility report on time.

The Kerala Automobile Limited in partnership with Switzerland based HESS had planned to manufacture 3000 e-buses under the e-mobility project. They were to construct logistics ports in various districts as well.

Since then, the opposition parties in Kerala have alleged corruption in Kerala government’s contract with HESS as a global tender was not invited for the project. Even the finance department had raised concerns on the Chief Secretary selecting HESS without conducting a feasibility study.

In addition to this, the government has decided to not extend the contract with Sprinklr regarding COVID19 data collection. The deal between the Kerala government and the US-based firm was heavily criticised as it was accused that the company collated health data of 1.75 lakh people in quarantine without taking their consent. Details about the patient’s symptoms and underlying health conditions were compiled and sent using a tool developed by Sprinklr to assist doctors and health officials to make a choice about hospitalization.

Ramesh Chennithala of Keral Congress flagged the flouting of due process in awarding the contract to Sprinklr without obtaining clearances from departments like law, local self-government and finance.

According to the contract, it states that if both parties are interested, the contract would be extended.

With the expiry of the contract, the data would now be handed to the Kerala government and removed from Sprinklr’s records.

The new way of doing things: Engaging from a position of strength and on our own terms

In a sea of developments taking place across geographies, it is essential that India’s position and international relations strategy is reviewed and understood in the context of its own national interests. Indicators pointing at this shift in attitude have long been observed in India’s recent foreign engagements – the Doklam stand-off, its handling of terrorism at the border with Pakistan, illegal immigration from Bangladesh, New Delhi’s role in the Afghan-Taliban peace talks and now, the ongoing border situation with China in Ladakh. However, global uncertainties are higher than ever, with the emergence of a new world order becoming more apparent with each day.

Global Uncertainties

The election of Yoshihide Suga as Japan’s new Prime Minister, the outcome of Afghan-Taliban peace talks still remaining dicey, developments concerning disengagement of Indian and Chinese troops, the shifting trade patterns with Australia (which has emerged as a close Indian ally) and the US elections are events contributing significantly to global uncertainties. This is accentuated by India’s still developing relations with the European Union and the course that the US-China conflict will take in the future.

Indian representatives recently walked out of a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meet when Pakistan presented a fictitious map of the nation, claiming patches of Indian territory to be its part. India’s unwillingness to dismiss acts against its sovereignty, no matter how trivial, is indicative of a behavioural shift – that going forward, it will engage with the world from a position of strength, and on its own terms. This shift is, however, a contributor to uncertainties as it is yet to be seen how other contenders will respond to it.

S Jaishankar, India’s Foreign Minister, writes in his book ‘The India Way’, that global developments have created a “policy outlook that has not been easy to capture in terms of orthodox thinking”. He illustrates the contradictory nature of international relationships; for instance, the Quad co-existing with India’s membership of the SCO, and a trilateral with Russia and China co-existing with one involving Japan and the US. These complex systems of relationships mean that India will have to stay alert and navigate global waters with care – as relationships with countries now involve agreements on certain fronts and disagreements on others.

The resignation of Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, who was the country’s longest serving Prime Minister and a close Indian ally, and with Joe Biden being touted by international media houses as the President apparent, have together created an environment in which countries like India have recognised the need to forge new, independent and resilient ties with others in their own neighbourhood. However, this cannot be without accounting for China in this and every other international equation, new or old.

While the new Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga might be a close aid of the former PM, and hence maintain cordial relations with India, he must stand the longevity test – something Japan has achieved only once before. It cannot be forgotten that it had seen nineteen Prime Ministers in just thirty years! For India, it is important that Japan maintains political stability.

China

Recently, India beat China in the race to get elected to the UN Commission on Status of Women. This came as a crucial development as 25 years ago, in 1995, the World Conference on Women was commemorated in Beijing – meaning the Chinese take a lot of ownership on this landmark conference.

With two vacant seats, the three contesting countries were Afghanistan, India and China. The Indian delegation is said to have campaigned hard in the run-up to the elections, as it was aggressively contested by China, upping the heat for a seat on the commission.

If this is to be read along with the developments at the border, India’s shifting attitude is reaffirmed – it may be seeking peace, but not at the cost of national integrity and security. “This is not the India of 1962”, as many posted on Twitter amidst the ongoing Chinese provocations.

The Quad

The informal alliance between US, India, Japan and Australia had ceased to exist one year after it was initiated in 2007 by Japanese PM Shinzo Abe. It was revived only in 2017 when the leaders of the four countries got together and re-initiated it. Ever since, the Quad has been in focus as US-Chinese relationships sored, and Australia openly called China out on the coronavirus outbreak, leading to big changes in the Indian subcontinent’s trade dynamics.

The shift in Indian attitude from the pre-Narendra Modi era is evident in many ways, which is discerned from the fact India had prioritised Sino-Indian relationships as recently as just over a decade ago in 2008, instead of building ties with countries that would later lead the charge into a multipolar world. This was one among the few reasons for the pre-mature dilution of the Quad.

The importance of this alliance is also understood from an earlier situation when the Chinese began aggressive military operations in the sea in 2015, against which the alliance had stood strongly, US being the first to send its destroyers sailing close to the newly created Chinese islands. Ever since, India has slowly but steadily increased the pace and size of investment on national security, proclaiming clearly its stance on matters of defence.

Recently, a bunch of crucial agreements were signed between India and Japan, where the said parties will get access to each other’s ports and logistical infrastructure in a war (or war-like) situation. The US has hundreds of such agreements with countries across the world. These agreements are necessary for taking on China and being assertive about Indian interests.

With respect to trade, India, Japan and Australia have suggested conducting multilateral talks to build supply chain resilience to reduce their dependability on China. All the three countries have strong incentives to support each other, Australia more so, China being its largest trade partner.

Way Ahead

India had, over the past decade, refused any engagement with Taliban. But recent developments have been the exact opposite – it is now a key stakeholder in the ongoing peace talks, and even made the inaugural address, where Foreign Minister S Jaishankar established in clear sentences that New Delhi will not tolerate any anti-India activities on Afghan soil.

At $5 billion, India has been one of the highest aid providers to Afghanistan. From a time when Indian diplomats had standing instructions to not engage with the Taliban, the nation has come a long way. The new India is more assertive about its interests and unafraid to speak its mind on the global stage.

The road ahead may be long, but we are in the right direction.

Madurai Bench of Madras HC strikes down tender notification issued by EO of Palani temple, raises larger question about Hindu temple administration

In a significant judgement that has wider ramifications with respect to the state control of Hindu temples, the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court while cancelling tender notification issued by the Executive Officer of the Palani Temple also stripped his powers and ordered the formation of a Trust by devotees to control the affairs of the temple.

TR Ramesh of the Indic Collective had petitioned against the Executive Officer (an IAS officer) who had issued tenders for housekeeping contracts of  Arulmighu Dhandayuthapani Swami Temple, Palani.

Mr. Ramesh who is also the President of the Temple Worshippers Society noted that inviting tenders for the housekeeping of the temple was a commercial contract which prevents the rights of devotees to offer voluntary service, popularly known as “Uzhavara pani”.

He also noted that the temple did not have a trust board for almost a decade. The EO acts as an ex-officio ‘fit person’ and such an official can’t take major decisions having financial implications, Mr. Ramesh petitioned.

The EO had filed a counter affidavit stating that the petitioner was not an aggrieved individual and added that the petitioner must file a PIL if in case he wants to espouse the subject. The EO in his affidavit had noted that the catering to sanitation, maintenance and cleanliness of the temple was of supreme importance and that the tender was issued as the earlier contract had expired. He admitted that the temple had no board trust formed but justified his action saying that the EO as a ‘fit person’ was entitled to discharge the functions of the board trust. The state government pleader who appeared for the HR&CE commissioner also towed the same line.

Justice G.R. Swaminathan brought “Uzhavara Pani” under the scope of Article 25 of the Constitution, a fundamental right to practice one’s religion and held that the temple management can regulate but cannot deny the right of one to perform Uzhavara Pani.

The judge commenting on the office of the EO said “a non-hereditary trustee can occupy the office only for a specific period. But in the instant case, for more than nine years and three months, the temple has been under the management of the Executive Officer who doubles as a Fit Person. I would observe that there should not be any Executive Officer/Fit Person-raj in the second respondent temple”, thereby declaring the position of the EO illegal.

The judge also cited an editorial in the New Indian Express that said “Reconstituting temple trust boards with eminent Hindus and men of impeccable character would be a good start. Leaving the temple in the care of the bureaucracy and politicians hasn’t helped…”, the judge said noting that these words are applicable to the State of Tamil Nadu as well.

Reacting to this, TR Ramesh commenting on the judgement said that it was one of the biggest victory for Hindus in recent times.

Deport William Dalrymple for his anti-India stand, Supreme Court lawyer Monika Arora files complaint

A complaint has been filed against leftist ‘historian’ William Dalrymple with the Consular, Passport and Visa Division of Ministry of External Affairs by senior Supreme Court Advocate Monika Arora who has accused him of interfering in India’s internal affairs.

In her complaint, she has charged him with violating Visa conditions by engaging in activities interfering in India’s internal affairs.

Dalrymple is a national of the United Kingdom and has an Indian Business Visa.

Monika Arora in her complaint says, “It has been observed however that Mr Dalrymple has been deliberately engaging in activities that interfere with India’s internal affairs,”.

The complaint further says that William Dalrymple is interfering in the country’s internal affairs by putting out public statements, interviews that concern India’s democratic and political processes.

Another important accusation against this Mughalophile is that he has been actively canvassing against the CAA by peddling half-truths, commenting against the Indian Government and making snide remarks against Indian citizens.

Several instances have been listed where Darlymple’s statements and articles have been written against India’s integrity, sovereignty and displayed a blatant bias against a democratically elected government.

After the abrogation of Article 370, Dalrymple gave his support to Kashmiri separatists and expressed his opposition.

Accoriding to the complatent, India had deported foreign nationals who took part in anti-CAA protests like Jakob Linthendal, a German citizen studying at IIT Madras, Jenny Metty Johansson of Norway living in Kochi, and Bangladeshi national Afsara Anika Meem, who lives in Kolkata.

They were asked to leave the country because they violated their visa norms by indulging in activities in anti-India activities.

So by that precedence William Darlymple’s visa should also be revoked for his anti-India activities and ban him from entering the country again, says the complaint.

Monica Arora is one of  the authors of the book ‘Delhi Riots 2020: The Untold Story’ whose publication by Bloomsbury was stopped after a section of left wing authors and intellectuals put pressure on the publishing company.

However, ‘Garuda Publications’ took the mantle to publish this book which saw all records broken when 15,000 copies were sold in less than 24 hours.

Lies, damned lies, outright lies and DMK

Many who come across as ‘social activists’ today, seem to be agents of the DMK. They emerge either as tacit supporters of the party by masquerading as ‘social activists’ or they are very open about it. Then there are the likes of Karthikeya Sivasenapathy who lie through their teeth for their survival.

The Jallikattu protest which started as a student led protest against PETA was hijacked by this man for his own popularity. He portrayed himself as the saviour of Jallikattu and has since then become a prominent face gaining some youngsters as followers on social media.

Jallikattu Movement Press Meet | hip hop tamizha,Siva senathipathi PART 2 - YouTube

Since then he is known for eulogizing the most corrupt party of Tamil Nadu – the DMK, while positioning himself as someone not affiliated with the party.

However, his cloak dropped off when he tried to act smart on Twitter while responding to Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President and former IPS officer K. Annamalai. Just a few days before that, he had called on DMK chief MK Stalin’s son and the party’s youth wing secretary ‘actor’ Udhayanidhi Stalin, probably to pitch himself as a probable MLA candidate.

After Dharmapuri DMK MP Senthilkumar backed off from an open debate with Annamalai citing parliament session as a reason, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy jumped-in in an attempt to save the DMK’s face. In a Tamil Youtube channel started by Senthil, one of the expelled news anchors from News 18 Tamil Nadu, Sivasenapathy had challenged for a debate with Annamalai. However, Annamalai had politely declined saying that he was looking forward to engage with a member who wants to represent people and work for the state.

To this, Sivasenapathy had tweeted to Annamalai that if the latter could arrange a debate between him and Prime Minister Modi, he would be obliged to arrange the same with ‘his party leader’ and Annamalai. He also added that he was a DMK member since 1996.

So, when the Jallikattu protest happened in which Tamil Nadu youngsters had barred all political parties from participating, this man like a fox clandestinely entered the scene hiding about his DMK affiliation and hijacked the protest to spread anti-Modi and anti-AIADMK rhetoric when both these parties had nothing to do with the ban of the sport whatsoever.

Recently, he posted about the state of Tamil Nadu’s economy on his twitter page. The information he shared does not even have an iota of truth. Knowing that the evidence could not be given if asked, he released the fake data, graphs and concepts handed over by DMK’s new master I-PAC.

Also, the post was ditto copied from the tweet of Suresh Sambandam who has become the DMK’s new poster boy after his interview with Neeya Naana Gopinath became viral.

However, netizens were quick enough to point out that the data and information shared were nothing but outright lies.

A person named Purushothaman has researched the information given on the official website of the Government of India and proved with evidence that whatever has been peddled by these two people is nothing but lie.

Tamil Nadu has always been ahead of rest of the country for a long time in history. Especially during the British period, the development of Tamil Nadu (then Madras Presidency which included Andhra, parts of Karnataka, Kerala and extended upto Odisha) was as good as that of Bombay and Bengal Presidencies. But DMK sympathizers who are good at telling stories portray as if the state owes its growth to DMK.

Here are few numbers to put things in perspective.

The DMK sympathizers claim that the GDP of Tamil Nadu had grown from $0.34 billion in 1970 to $260 billion today, 764 times, while India grew only 47 times from $62 billion to $2.9 trillion. However, this is a totally flawed comparison. If in 1970 Tamil Nadu GDP was $0.34 billion and India’s GDP was $62 billion, Tamil Nadu’s share in Indian GDP turns out to be only 0.5% which cannot be the case.

Official statistics available with the Government of India show that in 1970-71, India’s GDP (at factor cost) was ₹44382 crores, while Tamil Nadu’s GDP was ₹2371 crores i.e., Tamil Nadu contributed 5.3% to India’s GDP.

Suresh has cleverly/ignorantly taken Tamil Nadu’s GDP at factor cost and India’s GDP at nominal value to draw comparisons. It is basic economics knowledge that one cannot compare GDP at factor cost with nominal GDP. (Once again, Mr. Suresh proves that he is a certified Murasoli reader.)

So, in essence, during the first 15 years of DMK rule, Bihar’s growth rate was slightly higher than that of Tamil Nadu. This seems to have continued until 2000.

So as it turns out, during the first 15 years of DMK rule, Bihar’s growth rate was slightly higher than that of Tamil Nadu. This seems to have continued until 2000.

The growth of Tamil Nadu post the 1990s has been due to the liberalization, privatization and globalisation reforms brought about by the Narasimha Rao government at the Centre. Thankfully, the state was when India was liberalized the state was governed by AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa.

Seen in that light, all the southern states have grown since liberalization. The development of Tamil Nadu should not always be compared with other northern states simply because the southern states have had a geographical (coastline) and historical advantage. It is good that we serve as a benchmark for several states. But one should not boast about oneself and demean the efforts of others. Tamil Nadu should be looking up European and Scandinavian countries and not look back to see how far we are ahead of other states.

It is not to say that nothing happened during the DMK rule. Yes, every government had contributed its fair share to the state’s prosperity. But to say that Tamil Nadu owes its development to one party and one leader who was known for scientific corruption is just humbug.

Citizens of Nepal hold protests against Chinese encroachment of its territories in Humla district

After unleashing the Wuhan virus pandemic on to the world China is now taking advantage of the crisis by trying to grab more territories of other countries. While India has been resisting its expansion on Eastern Ladakh, China seems to have occupied large swathes of land inside Nepal. Protests have broken out in Nepal over the occupation of its land by China. Nepalese youth raised slogan in front of the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu against the construction made by China on encroached land in Humla district of Northern Nepal.

The protestors flashed banners with slogans like “Go Back China” and “Back off China” and shouted the slogans of “Down with Chinese Imperialism”, “Return the Encroached Nepali Land” and so on.

This protests will create huge problem for the Nepal Prime Minster KP Sharma Oli who is seen as a Chinese stooge.

As Nepal falls deeper into Chinese debt trap, China resorted to same tactics of expansion by claiming new territories as its own and has carried out construction work on it.

Chinese Embassy spokesperson in Kathmandu Wang Xiaolong claimed that China has the evidence and the documents to show that the land belongs to it.

China has reportedly erected 11 building on the Nepalese territory of Humla. However, all the buildings are unoccupied except one building in which Chinese forces are living.

Nepali Prime Minister Oli who involved in a tussle with India over so called encroached territories has not said any thing  with regards to Chinese encroachment on Nepalese territory.
