“Congress Does Crab-Pulling, BJP Empowers Women”, Says Former TN Mahila Congress President Hazeena Syed

Former Tamil Nadu Mahila Congress President Hazeena Syed who recently resigned from the party and made startling allegations against Alka Lamba, the President of the All India Mahila Congress, has triggered a political stir after sharply criticising the Congress and praising the BJP’s approach to women’s representation, following her recent exit from the party.

Detailing her shift in stance, Hazeena Syed said, “There is a big myth which prevails in the country which says BJP doesn’t support women. Even I used to think like that. I’ve done many protests against BJP. I did a padyatra also demanding 33% [women’s reservation]. But I would like to take back my word.”

She went on to cite candidate distribution in Tamil Nadu as evidence, stating: “What I am seeing practically, practically in the field, especially in Tamil Nadu, BJP has got 27 seats. Out of that, they’ve given five seats to women. Can you imagine?”

Referring to BJP leaders, she added: “The BJP’s Mahila Morcha president, Vanathi the national president, she’s from Tamil Nadu. She’s got a ticket. We’ve had a woman governor from Tamil Nadu, Tamilisai Soundararajan – she’s been empowered. And Vijayadharani, who got upset with our party [Congress] and went there because of the men, the shrinkers in Congress party, she’s got a ticket there.”

Hazeena Syed further contrasted the BJP’s approach with that of the Congress, saying: “So out of 27 [seats], BJP had the big heart to give five to women. But here in Congress, we simply talk women empowerment, but we do crab-pulling here. We are hardly given anything. BJP is actually delivering what they are promising.”

She also referred to the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating:
“The Women’s Reservation Bill, which they’ve already got into Parliament, they will implement it very soon. Once they implement it, it will be a very welcoming move.”

On minority representation, she said: “On BJP’s stand on Muslims also — I see in Tamil Nadu, Munnavari Begum from Krishnagiri. She’s a woman. She’s from BJP. She’s the Minority Commission member at the national/central level which is equivalent to a ministerial position.”

Hazeena Syed then levelled strong allegations against Congress leader Alka Lamba, stating: “Whereas on the contrary, if you see the Congress party, there are women in Congress like Alka Lamba who just pull you down, crab-pull you down, threaten you.”

She further alleged an incident involving Lamba, saying: “And this is something extraordinarily different for a woman leader, when she was in Tamil Nadu in Virudhachalam, she even pushed one of my district presidents on the road. She could have come under a bus. I have video evidence for that.”

Condemning what she described as conduct unbecoming, she added: “This kind of sadistic mental attitude that Alka Lamba has, I strongly condemn it.”

On her exit from the Congress and subsequent developments, Hazeena Syed said: “I am no longer in the Congress party. After I resigned, she has caused defamation to my reputation. I am already sending her a defamatory notice and I will see her in the court of law.”
