#BoycottHyundai trends on Twitter after Hyundai India fails to apologise for controversial post by Hyundai Pakistan

The Automobile company Hyundai landed in trouble on Feb 5th, after its Pakistani counterpart shared solidarity messages over Kashmir on social media. It shared a post which asked for the disintegration of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir from the Union of India.

The tweet, posted by Hyundai Pakistan Official (@PakistanHyundai), read, “Let us remember the sacrifices of our Kashmiri brothers and stand in support as they continue to struggle for freedom.” The tweet was put up along with a picture of the Dal Lake, where the word ‘Kashmir’ was juxtaposed with a barbed wire. A similar post was uploaded on the Pakistani dealership’s Facebook and Instagram pages, respectively.

Many angered Indian netizens, asked Hyundai India to tweet in support of India, and also questioned if they endorsed Hyundai Pakistan’s post. Initially, as a response to these questions, Hyundai India went on to block Indian netizens, who questioned them.

Immediately after this, netizens started trending the #BoycottHyundai on Twitter. Several users reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), seeking stringent action against the South Korean automotive manufacturer.

Yesterday, one day after Hyundai Pakistan’s post, Hyundai India released a statement that it has a zero-tolerance policy towards insensitive content. However, still many netizens pointed out that nowhere in the statement was an apology mentioned for their insensitive post. “The unsolicited social media post linking Hyundai Motor India is offending our unparalleled commitment and service to this great country. India is second home to the Hyundai brand and we have a zero tolerance policy towards insensitive communication and we strongly condemn any such view,” the statement read.

The hashtag #BoycottHyundai continues to trend on Twitter, even after the release of the statement from Hyundai India, as the statement had no apology mentioned. A Twitterati had pointed out that Hyundai being the 2nd largest car manufacture in India, with 16% market share, has taken a great risk messing up. Many other Netizens had also pointed out the fact that India should boycott Hyundai, after such a statement from their side. Check out some tweets here:

Communist MP Su Venkatesan peddles false propaganda against Centre’s budget allocation for Southern Railways

CPI(M) Lok Sabha MP Su Venkatesan, has stirred another controversy, by quoting wrong data in order to spread false propaganda about the budget allocations of the Central Government. In a tweet, he had mentioned the budget allocated for New line/Gauge Conversion projects  for the Railways. In his tweet, he had written in Tamil, “The budget allocated for the Northern Railway is 14,349 crores. For the Southern Railways it is 59 crores. The words discrimination and partiality is not enough.”

However, the truth is that the budget allocated for Tamil Nadu Railways this year is ₹3,865 crores. This is 340% more than the 2009-2014 average. Also, the Modi government has allocated ₹125 crores for the Madurai Bodinayakanur project.

Another ₹54.2 crores is allocated for the Chennai Beach to Chennai Egmore line.

It is to be noted that the Southern Railway consists of only Tamil Nadu and Kerala. There are 16 different zones similar to the Southern Railway, for which funds are allocated by the Central Government.

Caste Discrimination within the Church: India’s Dalit Christians disappointed with papal representative

Dalit Christians from the South of India were disappointed and disheartened after they met with the papal representative (nuncio), demanding an end to caste discrimination within the Church. The Dalit Christian Liberation Movement (DCLM) met with Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic nuncio to India and Nepal, on February 2nd in Vellore, Tamil Nadu.

“He listened to our plight and demands very attentively but he did not commit anything. He was evasive on the question of ending caste discrimination against Dalits in the Catholic Church of India,” said Mary John, president of the Dalit Christian Liberation Movement (DCLM).

They had appealed to the nuncio to appoint a Dalit Christian for the posting of head of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore, a posting that is still vacant. However, Mary John said that his response for the appeal was evasive and non-committal.

She then went onto say, “The delegation felt instead of accepting the grievances and sufferings of Dalit Christians and the truth of caste discrimination and assuring of some concrete intervention with the Indian Catholic hierarchy, the papal nuncio refused to commit himself on any issue. The delegates were left highly disappointed with the nuncio’s responses, which showed a lack of understanding and grasp of the situation in India.”

She also added that the appointments were influenced by “nepotism and discrimination,” especially in the southern Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry region “with only non-Dalits being considered for the posts of bishops and archbishops.”

The DCLM has been consistently raising this issue of caste discrimination within the Church, for the past three decades with numerous letters and appeals to the Vatican and India’s Catholic hierarchy. 60 percent of India’s 25 million Christians are believed to be of Dalit and tribal origin.

Chinese bridge built over Pangong Lake in Eastern Ladakh illegal, Modi Govt informs Parliament

The Modi Government has told the Parliament on Friday (February 4) that the bridge across the Pangong Lake in Eastern Ladakh being built by China is illegal and India expects other countries to respect India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“The Government has taken note of a bridge being constructed by China on Pangong lake. This bridge is being constructed in areas that have continued to be under the illegal occupation of China since 1962,” the government told Parliament in a written response.

“Government of India has never accepted this illegal occupation. Government has made it clear on several occasions that the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral part of India and we expect other countries to respect India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” it added.

The bridge that has been built by the Chinese over Pangong Lake in Eastern Ladakh is 8 metres wide and it gives the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) faster access to the Chinese army field base on the North Bank of Pangong where Chinese field hospitals and troop accommodations were constructed during the standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in 2020.

“Our approach in these talks has been and will continue to be guided by three key principles, that, (i) both sides should strictly respect and observe the LAC; (ii) neither side should attempt to alter the status quo unilaterally; and (iii) all agreements between the two sides must be fully abided by in their entirety,” the government said.

“Government has noted reports of renaming of some places by China in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. This is a futile exercise that will not alter the fact that Arunachal Pradesh has always been, is and will always be an integral part of India,” it said.

Lavanya Suicide: ABVP condemns DMK for appealing against CBI probe in SC

The Bhartia Janata Party’s (BJP) student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has strongly condemned the ruling DMK government’s appeal against the High court order that has recommended  Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the Lavanya suicide case in the Supreme Court.

Addressing media in Chennai, ABVP National general secretaries Nidhi Tripathi, Muthuramalingam, and CWC member Nivedha said the DMK led by Chief Minister MK Stalin holds power in the state of Tamil Nadu has betrayed the sentiments of the bereaved family by opposing the Madras High Court–Madurai Bench’s order to hand over the investigation of the Lavanya suicide case to the CBI.

ABVP has now called on the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and National Commission for Women (NCW) to take strict action against the harassment, forceful conversions across evangelical institutions, and demanded the Tamil Nadu government bring a law against forceful conversion.

Nidhi Tripathi who had led the delegation visited the family members of Lavanya along with National Secretary, Muthuramalingam and State Secretary (South TN) Sushila on Thursday (February 3).

However, what is even more shocking is that Lavanya’s father, Muruganantham, who is an active worker of DMK has been snubbed by his own party leadership no DMK functionary has visited his family even to pay condolences.

The ABVP has demanded a thorough inquiry and has called for the filing of criminal cases against the two nuns and the evangelical institution who mistreated and forced Lavanya to convert which led to her suicide

The ABVP has said, “The DMK led government should stop harassing the family of Lavanya by maligning the very fabric of our family system. The prejudiced DMK leadership should come clear of appeasement politics and missionary pressures and should acknowledge the statement of Lavanya regarding the forceful conversion. TN government should take immediate action against all evangelical intuitions to stop religious propaganda and forceful conversion by harassing minor students of other faiths, which violates the Constitution of India. Union government should take actions against academic institutions promoting institutional evangelism,”.

DMK MP TR Baalu lies on the floor of Parliament, says BJP supported anti-NEET Bill in Assembly

In yet another case of DMK leaders peddling lies, T.R. Baalu, the DMK MP from Sriperumbudur, said in the Parliament that the BJP MLAs in Tamil Nadu had voted for doing away with NEET when the bill was passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Delivering his motion of thanks to the President’s address, Baalu said “The will of the people.. 100% will of the people has been reflected by the members of the Assembly in Tamil Nadu. Why 100% means.. all the 100% members including the BJP, they have supported the bill against the introduction of NEET”.

The truth is that the 4 BJP MLAs walked out when the bill was being passed by the Assembly.

In September 2021, the DMK majority driven Tamil Nadu Assembly passed the Bill to restore the medical admissions mechanism in the state that existed prior to the introduction of NEET.
