Love Story – An Almost Perfect Love Story

There is a sense of groundedness in Shekhar Kammula’s cinematic world that have always been the stand-out point. His movies have so much telugu/local nativity that makes this world of his so relatable and rooted. In one of his recent interviews, one would understand the reason for this groundedness, it’s because his ideologies are rooted and his love for realistic people having sensible conversation directly reflects from his thoughts, that it seeps fluently into the writing as well. Sometimes, it looks like he does not even know how to make over-dramatic movies.

Love Story also has one such world where the characters are true and rooted, even if the world around them isn’t. The movie starts off by showing caste discrimination to a widow and her small boy, Revanth, in a village in Amoor. The introduction credits cut from there and move to Hyderabad where we see Revanth (Naga Chaitanya) running a Zumba class. He is struggling to make both ends meet as his customers (actually the customers’ husbands) are not happy with the progress they are making, hence leads to the money crunch. Enter Mounika Rani (Sai Pallavi), a “proud” Engineering graduate who comes to the city of Hyderabad to escape from the clutches of her family problems.

Does Love need caste, creed, colour when all a couple needs is trust and love? It eventually comes into picture when the “self-respect” of the caste hungry people gets violated, but it does not matter when a couple falls in love initially. A conversation involving Revanth with one other couple makes him realise that love does not need a reason, it just happens, a spark, and when that happens you want to make the most of your time enjoying and living the moment. The boy says that when you are in love, you have to make use of that small chances you get to meet her, even though it is risky to get caught. Additionally, if the couple belong to different castes with one being an oppressed caste than the other, you are left with nothing but hope and heart in these cruel times. Revanth at that point did not understand the high around love, as he just saw the mess it would lead to, but little did he know that he would also be treading the same path one day.

What makes this love story believable is that it takes two characters who have their own struggles and places them together to fall in love with each other. Revanth has dreams of making it big in life with this Zumba thing, just to prove the world that oppression starts from home and when you make that right at the start, everyone is a winner. Mouni, on the other hand, though being from a wealthy caste, has her own struggles and fears that she wants to be free from the clutches of her family, she has reasons to be so. She has been constantly bogged down all her life by saying she can’t do anything better in life. She gets an urge to do something but hasn’t got the skillset, even though she is a proud Engineering graduate. When two people who are determined to be free from clutches of their own internal war, they feel liberated when they meet. Well, Revanth is liberated at first sight, but Mouni has her reasons to be reserved and distant, but eventually she comes around. The inclusiveness and freedom makes Mouni get comfortable around Revanth. The free flowing nature of her and her dance makes Revanth want to be with Mouni no matter what.

We know that Shekhar Kammula magic is just around the corner, and it arrives in such beautiful fashion of Mouni dancing like a Peacock in rain. If you have not seen a peacock dance in rain, it’s enough if you watch Sai Pallavi dance in Evo Evo Kalale song. The flourishes and ease at which Sai Pallavi dances along with some brilliant choreography is just so satisfying to watch, one could watch her all day just for her dance.

The songs and background score by Pawan Ch support the movie aptly. The songs are magical, with Ey Pilla bringing tears to our eyes, just like how Revanth has tears when kissed by Mouni. The song and choreography of Sarang Dariya are in perfect sync that it would be a crime to just listen to the song separately without watching Sai Pallavi rocking to the beats of the song.

When all this is happening with Shekhar Kammula weaving his magic all over the Hyderabad sequences, we sense something is brewing up behind the scenes with Mouni’s family in her village. The after-effects of that haunting event in the past has had a long lasting impact on Mouni even now. I actually loved the idea of showing how Mouni was initially being so hesitant and fearful with Revanth, and then being able to let go of the fear slightly and get comfortable, and then eventually falling in love with him. The evolution of Mouni’s trust with men was shown so brilliantly that it was actually enough being the “conflict” the character needed to overcome, with the caste angle playing along the sidelines as a supporting conflict.

Unfortunately, the caste angle was played a little too much wherein the sequences and dialogues looked forced. There were unnecessary sequences in place to satisfy the caste storyline that it slightly diluted the “love story”. We sense that the caste thing was running along right from the beginning, but suddenly it bursts into the fore quite vehemently at the climax sequence by making Revanth angry, which did not fit in properly. Either the movie should have been more about caste discrimination and survival of the couple due to the caste issues, or it should have stayed in showing love and misunderstanding between the two individuals, like how it was in Fidaa. Shekhar Kammula tried to fit in a bit of both, probably to show some inventiveness from his usual movies, but proportionally it did not mix well, and at the end you are left with a sweet-sour aftertaste.

Senior Chinese diplomat calls for abandoning of ‘no-first-use’ nuclear policy for China

xi jinping cina india tibet visit

As China is starting to feel the pressure of the QUAD and the new military alliance between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, (AUKUS), a senior Chinese diplomat has said that the time has come for Beijing to abandon its ‘no-first-use’ policy of the use nuclear weapons to push back against new alliances forming in the Pacific.

Sha Zukang, is China’s former ambassador to the UN, told a summit of Chinese nuclear policy experts and was quoted by Daily Mail that it is time to ‘re- examine and fine-tune’ a long-standing commitment to only use nukes in retaliation as the US ‘builds new military alliances and as it increases its military presence in our neighbourhood.’

Beijing conducted its first nuclear test in 1963 and since then has employed the no first use policy and as per them it is necessary to have the ‘moral high ground’ but ‘is not suitable . . . unless China-US negotiations agree that neither side would use [nuclear weapons] first,’ he said at a meeting in Beijing last week.

Zukang warned the US, India, Japan and Australia who formed an alliance named QUAD which is more to do with ending China’s supply chain hegemony and ensure the Indo-Pacific remains free.

When Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the US, his opening remarks at the first in-person Leaders’ Summit of the Quadrilateral Dialogue between the US, India, Japan and Australia he said “the QUAD will work as a force for global good, and that he has faith the QUAD countries will help ensure peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and the world.”

Modi also thanked US President Joe Biden for arranging the leaders’ summit and said after the 2004 Tsunami, the four countries have for the first time come together for the assistance of the Indo-Pacific region. “As part of the Quad platform we are today helping the world that is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Quad vaccine initiative will be a big help to the Indo-Pacific nations,” he said.

Three more arrested by UP ATS in sinister mass conversion case, ED looking into foreign funding

Another Illegal Bangladeshi Infiltrator Arrested From Kolkata Hotel

Three more Islamic proselytizers involved in religious conversion racket in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh have been arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).

Inspector-General of Police, ATS, Gajendra Kumar Goswami, said that names of these three surfaced during questioning of accused cleric Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui, who allegedly ran the biggest conversion syndicate across the country.

“We have arrested Idris Qureshi, Saleem, and Kunal Ashok a.k.a Atif from Lucknow on Sunday,” he said.

Maulana Kaleem was arrested on September 22 and currently, he is on a 10-day custody remand and during interrogation, he revealed that apart from Rs 1.5 crores illegally routed through Bahrain and Rs 3 crore from other Gulf nations, a sum of Rs 20 crore has been received by the trusts operated by him which is in violation of the foreign act.

It was also revealed that one of the arrested members Atif got in touch with Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui when he was taking the Medical Council of India(MCI) examination and had converted to Islam during his medical studies while living in Russia.

Also, Atif was running a medical clinic in Nashik illegally after he failed to pass the MCI examination, a necessary certification to practice medicine in India for those who studied medicine abroad.

The IG further said that accused Idris Qureshi collected funds for the last 20 years for Jamiatul Imam Waliullah Al Islamiyya Madrasa run by Kaleem Siddiqui and is also active in the operation of the madrasa.

“Evidence so far has confirmed that under the guise of a social harmony programme, a syndicate of illegal conversions was being operated by the accused,” said the official.

Others who are now in the crosshairs of the police include Noida sign language interpreter Irfan Sheikh, Munna Yadav, and Rahul Bhola. Gujarat businessman Salahuddin Zainuddin and a Maharashtra doctor Firoz Shah.

Earlier, the ATS had busted the illegal conversion racket in June with the arrest of Umar Gautam a Hindu convert to Islam and his accomplice Mufti Kazi Jahangir Qasmi, and later its Nagpur syndicate was busted with the arrest of Rameshwar Kawre a.k.a Adam, Qausar Alam, and Bhuriya Bando a.k.a. Arslan Mustafa.

In order to spread the religion of Islam, the Islamists had devised a sinister plan to first convert the hearing and speech impaired children and then use them as human bombs.

It has also now emerged that Mufti Qazi Jahangir Qasmi and Mohammad Umar Gautam had received funding from Pakistan’s notorious spy agency ISI and other global sources.

The duo was based out of Delhi’s Jamia Nagar which is known as a hotbed of Jihadi activity and coercively converted around 1000 people to Islam by specifically targeting the deaf and mute individuals along with women and children for the same.

After the arrest of these individuals by the ATS, the Enforcement Directorate has now registered a case to look into foreign funding and money laundering angles in this racket.

Muslim man in TN who set fire to temple chariot gets thrashed by locals, says will do it again if he gets chance

A Muslim man identified as Mohammad Khan tried to set fire to a temple chariot in the village of V. Kalathur near Veppanthattai in Perambalur district.

At around 7 AM, the Muslim man reportedly from Valikandapuram tried to break the lock of the shed of two temple chariots in the village and set them on fire.

Villagers who were in the vicinity were shocked to find the fire engulfing the temple chariots. They rushed to douse the fire and nabbed Mohammad Khan.

The villagers thrashed Mohammad Khan and started inquiring about why he did it to which he says “Chumma than koluthinen. (I set fire simply just for the sake of it).”

In a video that is now viral on social media, the Muslim man says that he wanted to see what is inside and hence set the chariot on fire.

“It has been lying closed for a long time. The court has given order to not open it. I broke in to see why the court gave such an order.” he says.

“My father’s name is Khader Khan and my name is Mohammad Khan. What other details you want?” he responds to a villager when confronted.

When asked at what time he came and set fire, Mohammad Khan asks the villagers to check the CCTV camera and let them know it for themselves. “I set it on fire in broad day light”, he says.

“I went there to set the temple chariot on fire. I only set it on fire. If you let me, I will set it on fire even now.” the man keeps repeating.

The incident has caused shock among the people of the area. The villagers have handed over the man to the police.

Hindu Munnani has alleged that the Tamil Nadu police is trying to mislead the case saying that the man is mentally ill. The organization has announced protest if proper investigation is not conducted.

2.82 crore households have been electrified since the launch of SAUBHAGYA

2.82 crore households have been electrified since the launch of SAUBHAGYA. These figures are till March 31st of this year.  As of march 2019, 2.63 crore willing un-electrified households in rural and urban areas of the country were provided electricity connections in a record time of 18 months. Subsequently seven states- Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Manipur, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh reported that around 18.85 lakh un-electrified households, identified before 31.03.2019, which were unwilling earlier, but later expressed their willingness to get electricity connections, were also covered under the scheme.

SAUBHAGYA is one of the largest household electrification drives in the world. SAUBHAGYA was announced by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 25th September 2017. The objective of the scheme was achieving Universal Household Electrification in the country, through last mile connectivity and providing access to electricity to all un-electrified households in rural areas and poor households in urban areas. While launching the scheme, the Prime Minister pledged to provide access to electricity and work towards equity, efficiency and sustainability in the New Age India.

The total financial implications of the project was Rs. 16,320 crore while the Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) was Rs. 12,320 crore. The outlay for the rural households was Rs. 14,025 crore while the GBS was Rs. 10,587.50 crore. For the urban households, the outlay stood at Rs. 2,295 crore while GBS was Rs. 1,732.50 crore. The Government of India largely provided funds for the Scheme to all States/UTs.

The journey started with Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) which envisaged the creation of basic electricity infrastructure in villages. The focus of the scheme was on strengthening & augmentation the existing infrastructure and metering of existing feeders/distribution transformers to improve the quality and reliability of power supply in rural areas.

Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana – Saubhagya envisioned providing energy access to all by last mile connectivity and electricity connections to all remaining un-electrified households in rural as well as urban areas to achieve universal household electrification in the country. The electricity connection to households included the release of electricity connections by drawing a service cable from the nearest pole to the household premise, installation of an energy meter, wiring for a single light point with LED bulb, and a mobile charging point.

The road ahead

While the set objectives of the scheme have been achieved, team SAUBHAGYA has continued its work of providing 24×7 quality power supply to all. All states have been requested to launch special campaigns in their respective states to identify any left out un-electrified household and subsequently provide electricity connections to them. A dedicated toll-free helpline has also been launched for that purpose.

Meet PTR, the uncouth and foul-mouthed Minister in the DMK Govt

PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan who is supposedly from an ‘illustrious’ family of politicians, has been making headlines for matters unrelated to his portfolio ever since he became Finance Minister in the Stalin-led DMK government in Tamil Nadu.

He is a fourth-generation dynast politician about which he has no qualms boasting time and again in every medium, every platform and every tweet.

He has so far been riding on the good name of his father PTR Palanivel Rajan who had served as a Speaker from 1996 to 2001 and also as a Minister in the Karunanidhi government of 2006.

This has helped him gain clout in the party and also get elected MLA twice from Madurai Central constituency.

Palanivel Thiagarajan supposedly has a management degree in finance from the prestigious MIT-Sloan School of Management which comes across as hard to believe given the abusive language he spews while holding the position of a Minister in government. One can only wonder the arrogant bully he would have been in his school and college years going by the way he behaves on social media.

He also boasts of having worked with the Lehmann Brothers from where he apparently ‘quit’ in the year 2008, which incidentally happens to be the year the financial services firm collapsed and filed bankruptcy.

So, if at all there exists a ‘hall of shame’ in his alma maters, Palanivel Thiagarajan’s name would definitely find its place. If they don’t, they should definitely consider having one, so that the rotten apple is not placed with other distinguished personalities in these institutions.

The Self-Trumpeting Narcissist

If one were to see any interview, press meet or even a tweet of Palanivel Thiagarajan, it would be more about him blowing his own trumpet than about the issue.

He is known for being a heavy-head who quite often keeps flaunting his dynastic privilege, his wealth and even his GRE/GMAT score.

The reason he comes across as a narcissist is because not only does he keep singing praises about himself, he quite often derogates people who disagrees with him in a manner that is unbefitting for a person in public life.

For example, he had once name-called BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai who had just made his political entry in 2020.

Thiagarajan said

this clown spouts such nonsense, on such a regular basis, that joke value is too much! So, I will make this one exception. Please check out his statements on Tamil and Periyar, who was in Congress till 1925,.

This tweet has however been deleted now.

A Cyber-Bully

Before becoming a Minister in the present DMK government, Palanivel Thiagarajan who has been an MLA since 2016 was also the DMK IT Wing head which essentially means he was the head of the troll mob of the DMK. He probably still is as DMK’s official website still names him as the Secretary of the party’s IT wing.

More than the role of a Finance Minister, Palanivel Thiagarajan seems to be donning the role of chief troll who indulges in cyber-bullying.

Though it is a politician’s business to criticize, take sly jibes or give rebuttals to political opponents and critics, it is important that it is delivered in a civil manner.

But as former AIADMK Minister D. Jayakumar has pointed in his recent scathing letter, there seems to be a huge gap between Palanivel Thiagarajan and civility.

Here are some of the instances when Palanivel Thiagarajan resorted to making personal attacks on political opponents and even common netizens.

PTR Vs ‘Neutral’ Political Analyst Sumanth Raman

A few months before the Assembly Elections, Palanivel Thiagarajan attacked Sumath C Raman on Twitter by calling him a ‘pseudo-intellectual who is given space that far exceeds any vestige of competence’.

His tweet read:

“This Pseudo-Intellectual is mysteriously given exposure on TV channels that far exceeds any vestige of competence, much like the hacks the BJP sends as “neutral” commentators

Now the truth is out. Accusing the DMK of BJP-level bigotry & divisive hate, reveals his jaundiced mind.”

This tweet has now been deleted.

Irked by this, Sumanth C Raman dissed the DMK IT wing head with a stinging rebuttal stating that generations of wealth, dynastic wealth and foreign education did not give him the grace of public discourse.

In another incident, he called Sumanth Raman a ‘kiruku paya’  (foolish guy in Tamil) during an interview.

Even during the recent baby shower controversy, he attacked Sumanth C Raman.

PTR Vs Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

Just days after becoming Finance Minister, in an interview to The Hindu, Palanivel Thiagarajan called Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev a ‘publicity hound’ and a ‘charlatan’.

Dismissing Sadhguru’s call for relieving Hindu temples from government control he said, “In the case of Jaggi, he is a publicity hound and charlatan who is trying to find another angle to make more money.”  He had also called Jaggi Vasudev a ‘commercial operator’ pretending to use god and religion to get help.

In another instance, digging up an old tweet of Sadhguru that was posted years ago, Palanivel Thiagarajan resorted to taking jibes in bad taste.

Sadhguru in June 2015 had tweeted that Hindu is a geographical identity and implied that every living being born in this land is Hindu.

Image

Palanivel Thiagarajan, who was supposed to be busy preparing the budget for the state, posted a screenshot of this tweet and wrote in his caption “Multi-DIMENSION-al” charlatan.

PTR Vs Malini Parthasarathy

In response to the disparaging remarks made by Palanivel Thiagarajan on Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Isha Foundation had published a statement saying that it was appalled at the personal attack made by a person holding such high office. The Hindu had published this statement by Isha Foundation in the form of an article.

Malini Parthasarathy, The Hindu Publishing Group’s Chairperson had shared this response in her Twitter profile. In this case, Palanivel Thiagarajan resorted to shooting the messenger saying that Malini Parthasarathy needs ‘counselling’ and not destroy The Hindu’s brand.

PTR Vs Mohandas Pai

Mohandas Pai had shared a video on his Twitter timeline on May 21 where he had called Palanivel Thiagarajan as a ‘loose mouth’, ‘arrogant’, ‘self-centred’, ‘abusive’ and ‘egoistic’ for his comments on Jaggi Vasudev.

“Can he shut up and do his job?” Pai wrote on in his tweet.

Palanivel Thiagarajan responded to the tweet calling Mohandas Pai a ‘capitation-thieving’, ‘genetically-bigoted’, ‘biggest-global-beef-merchant’ and a ‘hypocrite’.

Mohandas Pai lashed out at Palanivel Thiagarajan saying that he had a bigoted mind was devoid of dignity.

The spat came to an end with Palanivel Thiagarajan blocking Mohandas Pai.

PTR Vs Goa Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho

A spat between Goa Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and Palanivel Thiagarajan erupted following the 43rd GST Council meeting on 28th May over the latter’s demand for preferential treatment for larger states.

Minister Godinho stated that  Palanivel Thiagarajan, insulted Goa during the GST meeting by stating that because Goa is a small state, its views should not be given weightage.

“I want to remind the new Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. Palanivel, refrain from conducting yourself in a manner as a big brother versus small brother or big state versus small state. We all have equal rights. His attitude should be condemned by one and all right-thinking people. He should not target Goa.”, he said.

Post the meeting, Palanivel Thiagarajan had been attacking the Goa Transport Minister over tweets. In a detailed statement, Palanivel Thiagarajan went on to make personal attacks on the Goa Transport Minister.

PTR Vs BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan

In what can be called as a behaviour unbefitting for a person holding public office Palanivel Thiagarajan unleashed abuses and made personal attacks on Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan who had called out the former for insulting Goa during the 43rd GST Council meeting.

The BJP MLA had condemned the behaviour of Palanivel Thiagarajan at the GST Council meeting and called it an insult to democracy.

To this, the MIT educated Finance Minister remarked if the BJP woman MLA was a ‘congenital liar’ or a person with ‘low IQ’.

The Finance Minister had later blocked the BJP woman MLA.

Palanivel Thiagarajan put out a derogatory post unbecoming of his position saying “I block you like a normal person closes a window to avoid bad smell”.

Later, Vanathi Srinivasan had put out a dignified response holding up the mirror to the ‘MIT educated’ Finance Minister saying that the latter lacked ‘political maturity’ and ‘social etiquette’.

PTR Vs Journalist Sandhya Ravishankar

Palanivel Thiagarajan along with his troll mob had indulged in denigrating a Ramnath Goenka Award Winning journalist Sandhya Ravishankar who had exposed some of the false rhetoric of the Pollachi Sexual Abuse case.

When the journalist had responded to his tweet that he didn’t even have the basic courtesy to tag the concerned person while talking about them, Palanivel Thiagarajan called her ‘too insignificant/irrelevant’ to tag and engage.

He also called her a ‘scum’ for bringing the untold side of the Pollachi Sexual Abuse case.

While Palanivel Thiagarajan has deleted all these tweets, he probably hasn’t realized that the internet remembers!

PTR Vs Annamalai

He had called BJP Tamil Nadu President Annamalai ‘schizophrenic’ very recently as the latter had put out a tweet in which he took a jibe at him.

When a disability activist pointed out that the problematic usage of the term, he attacked him too.

PTR Vs DMK MP TKS Elangovan

Just a day after DMK Rajya Sabha MP T.K.S. Elangovan expressed concerns over Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan’s public rants on social media, he took to Twitter to hurl abuses at the senior leader of his own party.

In an interview with journalist Sandhya Ravishankar, the DMK MP said that Palanivel Thiagarajan gets provoked easily. He also said that MK Stalin had already advised Palanivel Thiagarajan to not be loose with his words.

Proving the DMK MP’s point, Palanivel Thiagarajan made personal attacks on the senior DMK leader without naming him. He had called him ‘an old fool’ and ‘a person can be bought for 2 kg of shrimp’. He had also attacked Sandhya Ravishankar in that tweet.

Image

PTR Vs Common Netizens

Palanivel Thiagarajan abuses not just his political opponents but also common netizens who are critical of the DMK.

Responding to a netizen on the recent ‘baby-shower’ controversy, where the Finance Minister skipped the GST Council meeting at Lucknow to attend a baby shower ceremony organized in his constituency, Palanivel Thiagarajan called the person a ‘dolt’ and a person with ‘unwarranted-privilege-hardened skull’.

He had once again attacked journalists on the matter.

Here are some of his other rants on the matter.

In the above tweet, responding to a woman cadre of the BJP who had asked him if he had really skipped the GST Council meeting to attend baby shower function of his sister-in-law, Palanivel Thiagarajan cyber-bullied her and called her a person ‘whose brain has been spoilt by drinking cow urine’.

In both the tweets above, he keeps making ‘cow urine’ barbs which is usually done by rabid Hindumisic elements to insult those who worship cows.

In another instance, Palanivel Thiagarajan stooped to a new low by uttering words unbefitting of a Minister. He said “Dude… I crap bigger than you.” and went on to call the netizen a ‘scum’, ‘cultist’ and ‘minion’ who had taken a jibe at the collapse of Lehmann Brothers where Palanivel Thiagarajan worked.

A Person Unfit To Be In Public Life

Palanivel Thiagarajan is proving to be an Achille’s heel for the DMK and has become a concern for senior leaders in the party. It was reported in a Tamil magazine that the senior leaders of the party had put in a word with CM Stalin that the party and the government’s image is being tarnished by Palanivel Thiagarajan’s loose remarks. Following this, CM Stalin is said to have sternly warned Palanivel Thiagarajan but it seems to have had no effect as the Minister continues to go about his arrogant behaviour on social media.

One may have studied in the best of institutions and scaled heights in their profession. But, education and experience must make a person humble. ‘Humility’ is a virtue that every person in public life should have. Sadly, Palanivel Thiagarajan’s behaviour shows that he is not just a disgrace to the position he holds now but is also unfit to be in public life.

“Pakistan is an arsonist, actively supports terrorists”: India at UNGA

At the United Nations on Friday (24 September), India exercised its right of reply after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan again brought the Kashmir issue during his virtual speech in the UN General Assembly.

“Regrettably, this is not the first time the leader of Pakistan has misused platforms provided by the UN to propagate false and malicious propaganda against my country, and seeking in vain to divert the world’s attention from the sad state of his country where terrorists enjoy free pass while the lives of ordinary people, especially those belonging to the minority communities, are turned upside down, said Sneha Dubey, a First Secretary in India’s UN Mission

“Member States are aware that Pakistan has an established history and policy of harbouring, aiding and actively supporting terrorists,” she said.

“This is a country that has been globally recognized as one openly supporting, training, financing and arming terrorists as a matter of State policy. It holds the ignoble record of hosting the largest number of terrorists proscribed by the UN Security Council,” added Dubey.

The young diplomat also mentioend the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attack and its Pakistan connection, and Dubey said, “We marked the solemn occasion of the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks a few days back. The world has not forgotten that the mastermind behind that dastardly event, Osama Bin Laden, got shelter in Pakistan. Even today, Pakistan leadership glorify him as a martyr.”

“Regrettably, even today we heard the leader of Pakistan trying to justify acts of terror. Such defence of terrorism is unacceptable in the modern world,” she said.

Dubey also highlighted Paksitan’s hypocrasy and rhetoric of calling themselves the “victim of terrorism” and said, “This is the country which is an arsonist disguising itself as a firefighter,” she added. However, it was professor C Christine Fair who had made that origianl quote which India used to its full advantage.

She thensaid, “Pakistan nurtures terrorists in their backyard in the hope that they will only harm their neighbours. Our region, in fact, the entire world has suffered because of their policies. “On the other hand, they are trying to cover up sectarian violence in their country as acts of terror,” Dubey said.

Dubey then attacked Pakistan on its suppression its minorities and said, “Today, the minorities in Pakistan, the Sikhs, Hindus, Christians, live in constant fear and state-sponsored suppression of their rights. This is a regime where anti-Semitism is normalised by its leadership and even justified,”.

Responding to Khan’s claims about the treatment of minorities in India, Dubey said: “Pluralism is a concept which is very difficult to understand for Pakistan which constitutionally prohibits its minorities from aspiring for high offices of the State. The least they could do is introspect before exposing themselves to ridicule on the world stage.

“Unlike Pakistan, India is a pluralistic democracy with a substantial population of minorities who have gone on to hold highest offices in the country including as President, Prime Minister, Chief Justices and Chiefs of Army staff. India is also a country with a free media and an independent judiciary that keeps a watch and protects our Constitution.”

Regarding As for Khan Naizi’s allegations of “war crimes” by India, Dubey mentioned the genocide perpetrated in earstwhile East Pakistan now Bangladesh in 1971 in which more than 300,0000 people were killed by Pakistan and hundreds of thousand women raped.

Pakistan “still holds the despicable record in our region of having executed a religious and cultural genocide against the people of what is now Bangladesh. As we mark the 50th anniversary this year of that horrid event in history, there is not even an acknowledgement, much less accountability”, she said.

Dubey declared: “Let me reiterate here that the entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were, are and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. This includes the areas that are under the illegal occupation of Pakistan. We call upon Pakistan to immediately vacate all areas under its illegal occupation.”

On the conditions for peace, she said: “We desire normal relations with all our neighbours, including Pakistan. However, it is for Pakistan to work sincerely towards creating a conducive atmosphere, including by taking credible, verifiable and irreversible actions to not allow any territory under its control to be used for cross border terrorism against India in any manner.”
