Tamil film promotion happens at festival organized by TN Govt

The incident where a film crew participated in Tamil Nadu government’s function in Mamallapuram, has become an issue of controversy recently. A dance festival, organised by the Tamil Nadu government has been happening since December 23, 2021 in Mamallapuram. The festival is being conducted on behalf of the Tourism Department of the Tamil Nadu government and will be held till January 23rd.

The festival is from 5:30 pm to 8:30, where traditional folk arts and dances are performed. The Lakshman Shruthi concert was held on the night of the day before yesterday. The director, actors and the producer of the Tamil film ‘Velan’ made an appearance on the stage, in between the concert. They had come to advertise and promote their film, which was released recently.

The festival, which featured the film’s team for promotions, in a government event, has become a controversial matter. While this itself was questionable, the film team’s visit also amounted to violation of COVID norms. The beach opposite the festival’s venue has been closed in order to avoid huge gatherings. However, in the event, large number of people flocked together to take selfies with the team, defying COVID norms, as a result. This has also become a questionable matter.

Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s ex-wife fired upon by unidentified men

Reham Khan, the ex-wife of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has alleged that she was harassed by unidentified men who opened fire at the vehicle she was traveling on Sunday night (January 2).

Targeting her former husband, Reham said Pakistan had become a land of “cowards, thugs and the greedy” under Imran Khan’s rule.

“On the way back from my nephew’s marriage my car just got fired at and two men on a motorbike held vehicle at gunpoint! I had just changed vehicles. My PS and driver were in the car. This is Imran Khan’s New Pakistan? Welcome to the state of cowards, thugs and the greedy!,” she tweeted.

https://twitter.com/RehamKhan1/status/1477738896117186563?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1477738896117186563%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.indiatoday.in%2Fworld%2Fstory%2Freham-khan-fired-at-held-at-gunpoint-pakistan-pm-imran-khan-1895234-2022-01-03

Though Reham Khan did not suffer any injuries, the incident had apparently left her “outraged and concerned” for her safety.

Reham Khan was a former TV anchor and journalist with the BBC of British-Pakistani origin and was briefly married to Imran Khan from 2014 to October 30, 2015.

After her divorce from the former Pakistan cricket team captain, she became a vocal critic of her former husband and made several remarks about him in the public.

She even wrote a book where she talks about her life as a teenage bride and also how she endured a violent marriage and domestic abuse at the hands of her first husband who was also her first cousin.

But the most controversial aspect of her book was about Imran Khan who was once a notorious playboy and philanderer. In her book, she describes Khan as a free-loader and called him a drug addict.

If these revelations were not damaging enough, Reham Khan also alleged that Imran Khan had gay tendencies and he has sexual relations with many men and he also bosted to her that he had fathered many illegitimate children.

In 2019, after the Pulwama attack, Reham Khan had said Imran Khan was a puppet (selected PM) of the country’s military and had come into power by compromising on ideology and moderate policy.

Bharat Biotech updates Covaxin expiry date after DCGI approval

The makers of Covaxin, Bharat biotech have started picking up stocks of its unused Covid-19 vaccines, and re-labeling them with an updated expiry date, reports India Today.

This process of re-labeling and updating of the expiry date comes after the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved the extension of the vaccine’s expiry date from nine to 12 months.

This directive by the DCGI came after stability studies showed that the vaccine is good up to 12 months. However, earlier, the vaccine was permitted to be used only up to six months.

Every vaccine is produced has an expiry date and the shelf life is determined after various tests are conducted to assess how long a vaccine can stay stable and sterile in different environments and temperatures.

In November 2021, Bharat Biotech had received an extension of 12 months on the shelf life of its Covid vaccine Covaxin and immediately the company started to pick up the unused stock of Covaxin so it can be re-label with the new expiry date.

The recovered stock will be used for the ongoing vaccination drive and for vaccination of children in the age group 15-18, which is set to begin from Monday.

As per data ascertained from the CoWIN, over six lakh registrations have been received till Sunday evening as India gets ready to vaccinate 15 to 18-year-olds from January 3.

In other news, India will send half a million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Afghanistan and it will be one of the largest-ever humanitarian assistance projects received by that country after it was taken over by the Taliban. This comes after the World Health Organisation gave its much-delayed approval to this frug.

Taliban’s “Permanent Representative Designate” to the United Nations, Suhail Shaheen told The Hindu that, “his organisation has welcomed the initiative..as our people are passing through a critical time now. We welcome and appreciate humanitarian assistance by your country. It is a positive humanitarian step,”.

Pak Army refuses to claim body of its man killed by Indian soldiers at LoC

A regular Pakistani army jihadi terrorist who was a member of the infamous  BAT (Border Action Team) was killed in the Keran sector of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir on new year when he tried to infiltrate into India across the Line of Control (LoC) breaching the ceasefire agreement between India and the Pakistan Army.

Major General Abhijit S Pendharkar, GOC 28 division, said at a media briefing in Kupwara, “In a complete breach of the ongoing ceasefire understanding between the two armies across the Line of Control, an infiltration or BAT (Border Action Team) action was attempted in the Keran sector of Kupwara district on January 1. Swift action by the troops deployed at the Line of Control foiled the bid and eliminated the terrorist, later identified as Mohd Shabbir Malik, a Pakistani national,”.

“This clearly establishes that Pakistan continues to sponsor cross border terror. A hotline communication has been made to the Pakistan Army asking them to take back the body of the killed individual,” he said.

According to the Indian army, the BAT is a mix of regular Pakistani soldiers and Islamic jihadi elements who are known for carrying out attacks and beheadings of Indian soldiers. However, Pakistan has always denied these allegations.

After the Pak army terrorist was killed, a search that was carried out of his body revealed Pakistani national identity card and vaccination certificates (issued by Ministry of National Health Services Regulation & Coordination Government of Pakistan) identifying him as Mohammad Shabir Malik.

The belongings also included a photo in an army uniform wearing the name tab of Shabbir. As of now, the Pakistan army has not claimed the body of its fallen to maintain deniability.

“We need to welcome the PM who is visiting to initiate welfare schemes” : DMK MP Kanimozhi’s Somersault

DMK MP Kanimozhi has done a 180, by saying that the Prime Minister who is coming to Tamil Nadu to initiate welfare schemes should be welcomed without resistance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to set foot in Tamil Nadu on January 12th for the opening of 11 new Medical colleges. He is also all set to take part in the Pongal festival in Madurai. Thus, BJP functionaries have been busily preparing for this festival.

In the past, the PM has come to Tamil Nadu during the AIADMK government rule to initiate schemes. Functionaries of DMK, Congress, MDMK and VCK  have gotten together and have waved Black flags and used Black balloons to oppose his visit. Ever since the DMK formed the government in the state, the members of the party have been reiterating that the state government has to cooperate with the Central government. Meanwhile, there are also criticisms against DMK for welcoming the PM to Tamil Nadu.

When speaking about this, DMK MP Kanimozhi said that it is our duty to welcome PM Modi who is coming to Tamil Nadu to initiate welfare schemes, and that we should not oppose or resist his visit. She also said that it is not correct to oppose when schemes are being initiated for the welfare of the people. Netizens have been trolling and criticising the MP for her statement. The have been questioning whether it is right to tell stories of how the DMK opposed the PM’s visit to Tamil Nadu during the AIADMK rule, and now preach people against resisting the PM’s visit, during the DMK regime.

Times Now journo defends ToI journo after her lies get caught; TN BJP Chief Annamalai gives befitting reply

Earlier today, TOI journalist Julie Mariappan was called out by Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai for her wrongful and prejudiced reporting of Centre’s allocation of NDRF funds to Tamil Nadu. In her article, she had claimed that Tamil Nadu had been left out from the additional assistance provided by the Centre.

NDTV journalist, Aravind Gunasekar, came to Julie’s defense, sharing a Press Release published by the Press Information Bureau. However, it was also revealed that, PIB’s release clearly states that additional central assistance given to the states are for natural disasters between May 2021 and October 2021. Tamil Nadu had received torrential rainfall only in November and December in the year that passed.

Another journalist who has now come to Julie Mariappan’s rescue is Shabbir Ahmed, who is with Times Now. He is also known to peddle propaganda against the Centre while being friendly to the DMK.

Retweeting Aravind Gunasekar’s tweet, Shabbir had supported Julie saying that she is a senior journalist in the state and that Annamalai has a trend of specifically targeting journalists in the state.

Replying to Shabbir, Annamalai has now tweeted, “Some journalists in T.N including you have a visceral hatred for our Hon PM & BJP TN over the years. When your article is neutral & unbiased, we will respect and honour your work When you bring your personal prejudice into your Instituions, I’ll be doing this.”

ToI journo’s lies about Centre discriminating TN on NDRF funds gets caught, NDTV journo tries to buttress her

In yet another case of propaganda-peddling by journalists friendly to the ruling establishment in Tamil Nadu, a journalist working with the Times of India had written an article claiming that the Centre is discriminating the state over allocation of National Disaster Response Funds (NDRF).

The article written by one Julie Mariappan claims that Tamil Nadu has been left out from the additional assistance provided by the Centre despite CM MK Stalin writing several memoranda seeking assistance of ₹6230 crores.

She also tried to insinuate the Modi government at the Centre saying that funds are being only given BJP-ruled states.

This agenda-laden article has been amplified by several DMK-friendly journalists and social media influencers claiming

However, the truth is that Central government’s share of ₹816 crores in SDRF was already released to Tamil Nadu as on November 25, 2021.

Apart from this, the Central government has released ₹286.91 crores for 2020-21 and ₹213.51 crores for the financial year 2021-22.

BJP Tamil Nadu chief K. Annamalai pointed out the incorrect facts and called the article by the Times of India journalist as ‘agenda-driven’.

Responding to Annamalai’s tweet, NDTV journalist Arvind Gunasekar who is popularly known for buttressing the DMK and Congress, tried to justify Julie’s article quoting a release from the Press Information Bureau.

But the PIB release clearly states that additional central assistance given to the states are for natural disasters between May 2021 and October 2021. Tamil Nadu had received torrential rainfall only November and December of the year.

In light of this, several netizens have been lashing out at the fake news peddled by the ToI journalist and the buttressing given by the NDTV journalist.
