AP police officer Shaik Athavullah held for attacking police station with SDPI goons

Shaik Athavullah, a Head Constable of Andhra Pradesh Special Police Branch has been arrested for his involvement in the Atmakur Police Station attack case.

On 8th January 2022, the police station in Atmakur of Kurnool District was attacked by a mob of Muslims.

The attack came in the light of local Hindus raising objections to the construction of an unauthorized Mosque.

The attack was reportedly orchestrated by radical Islamist outfits like SDPI whose involvement was confirmed by the Superintendent of Police of Kurnool district. Several policemen were grievously injured in the attack.

Seven among the nine persons who were arrested in connection with incident were found to be SDPI members and had undergone SDPI training recently.

Earlier, a Telugu daily ‘Surya’ reported that Head Constable Shaik Athavullah of the Andhra Pradesh Police Special Branch was directly involved the attack.

It was reported that police officials of the same department were trying to save Athavullah by creating records that he went on leave on that day. He was supposed to be on duty at the state Chief Minister’s Camp Office.

However, when a police personnel goes on leave, a substitute police should’ve been appointed in his place which reportedly didn’t happen.

The role of Head Constable was also identified by Intelligence department while watching the video clips of the incident which were shot using drone cameras.

In this light, the said police officer has been taken into custody.

Imran Khan’s visit to Moscow costs National Bank of Pakistan $55 million

Pakistan which is in serious economic turmoil has suffered another reversal when two US entities imposed fines worth $55 million on the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and its New York branch.

This fine that has been imposed comes just hours after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kremlin on Thursday (February 24) amidst the ongoing “special military operation” by Russia into eastern Ukraine.

The US Federal Reserve which is the central bank and Superintendent of Financial Services of the state of New York imposed fines on the central bank of Pakistan over deficiencies and non-compliance with US federal laws.

The Federal Reserve has now imposed a $20.4 million fine, and the New York State Department of Financial Services has asked NBP to pay $35 million after it found “significant deficiencies” in the NBP branch’s “risk management and compliance with federal laws, rules, and regulations”.

As per the US Federal Reserve’s order, the deficiencies were related to anti-money laundering (AML) compliance and the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) of the US

The fine has been imposed after an investigation carried was out on March 4, 2021, that said that NBP had entered into a written agreement with the authorities on March 16, 2016, to correct the “deficiencies”, however, a recent investigation found that NBP had failed to “achieve full compliance with each and every provision of the written agreement”.

The order also states, Pakistan’s NBP failed to comply with the US laws and the central bank of Pakistan and the Federal Reserve had “mutually agreed to enter into this Cease and Desist Order and Order of Assessment of a Civil Money Penalty.”

NYDFS Superintendent Adrienne A Harris in a press release said, “The NBP allowed serious compliance deficiencies in its NY branch to persist for years despite repeated regulatory warnings,”.

The press release also reveals that the branch’s senior management was unwilling or unable to promote a culture of compliance and has failed to adequately supervise the branch by allowing problems to worsen year after year.

Russia reminds India of longstanding relationship and mutual cooperation amid Ukraine crisis

As Russia announced a “special military operation” in the Donbass region of Ukraine amid international condemnation and sanctions, the Russian Charge d’Affaires Roman Babushkin expressed hope that the partnership between India and Russia will continue regardless of the ongoing situation in Ukraine.

India is Russia’s biggest customer when it comes to high-tech weaponry and as tension mounts in Ukraine, India must now carefully maintain balance as Babushkin said, “We hope our partnership will continue further at the same level which we are enjoying today. With India, we have a very strong, long, trusted and deep cooperation,” he said, adding that “Russia remains the only country which is honest to sharing sophisticated technologies with India”.

referring to the Russian-Indian bilateral summit held in December last year, he said, “We’ve signed the programme for 10 years of cooperation in the defence area. We have a lot of big projects in the pipeline and we have full confidence that all our plans will be successfully implemented.”

“Defence cooperation between two nations is a strong factor of international peace and stability and to the full extent reflects the national interest of both countries,” he said.

Meanwhile, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti said  “The immediate priority is de-escalation of tensions taking into account the legitimate security interests of all countries for securing long-term peace and stability in the region and beyond,”.

Did DMK get just 1 vote in Eraniel Ward No. 4? Here is the truth

There has been a lot of talk on social media over a DMK functionary contesting from the 4th Ward of Eraniel in Kanyakumari district.

While some favouring the DMK noted that the party did not contest in the said ward, others have come out with proof that the said candidate indeed belongs to the DMK.

But here is the truth.

BJP candidate C. Girija has won the ward securing 147 votes. The AIADMK candidate Gopalakrishnan came second securing 74 votes.

This particular ward was alloted to the Congress which is part of the DMK alliance. The Congress candidate Reththina Bai has received 61 votes.

While it is true that the DMK did not contest officially, a man named Murugan who belongs to the DMK had contested as an independent candidate and got only 1 vote.

In the nomination filed by him, he has identified himself as a member of the DMK.

It was in this light that the BJP had taunted the DMK calling it ‘One Vote DMK’, a response to the DMK’s jibe against it.
