Clearing The Air About Coimbatore – Shirdi Bharat Gaurav Express

Indian Railways launched the theme-based tourist circuit Bharat Gaurav Trains to promote tourism within the country.

Through this one-of-its-kind initiative, the Indian Railways is leveraging the strength of the private sector to run theme-based trains on select routes. Under this scheme, ‘Registered Service Providers are offered rakes under the “Right to Use” model by Indian Railways (IR) for operation of Bharat Gaurav Trains.

Southern Railways has the highest number of registrations with total of seven private parties who have registered under the Bharat Gaurav Trains Theme.

One of the routes identified under the scheme is from Coimbatore to Shirdi via Mantralayam.

The Coimbatore-Shirdi Bharat Gaurav Express is being operated by South Star Rail, a registered service provider.

The first train under the route will depart from Coimbatore North railway station on June 14, 2022 at 6 PM.

The train will stop at Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Jolarpettai, Yelahanka in Bengaluru, Dharmavaram, Mantralayam Road (5 hours halt), and Wardi. The train will reach Shirdi on Day 3 (June 16) at 07:25 AM.

The ticket cost per head is on par with regular train ticket rates normally charged by Indian Railways.

The price per head for a round-trip for different classes is as follows:

Tourists can opt for either the train-fare only option or the package. The package cost includes round-trip train fare, special darshan ticket, accomodation, a tour guide and travel insurance.

According to South Star, passengers of AC compartments will be provided with a take-away bedding kit. Coaches have been fitted with speakers to play devotional songs and spiritual discourses. The company has also said that over 350 tickets have been given to Sai Baba devotees for free.

Tickets are being provided offline at various locations in Coimbaotre, Erode and Tiruppur. As of now, there are no online ticketing options available.

That being the case, Su. Venkatesan, the Communist MP from Madurai has peddled misinformation stating that privatization of railways is leading the ticket fares to go up.

In his statement, he said that the journey between Coimbatore to Shirdi is around 1458 kilometres for which the sleeper class rate is ₹1280, and the fares for 3 AC, 2 AC and 1 AC are respectively ₹2360, ₹4820 and ₹8190 while adding that the cost charged by the private company is ₹2500, ₹5000, ₹7000 and ₹10,000 respectively.

It is to be noted that there are no direct trains from Coimbatore to Shirdi currently. People from Coimbatore have to go to Bengaluru and then take a different train to Shirdi. The layover at Bengaluru could range anywhere between 1 hour to a 1 day.

“All Disbelievers Of Islam Are The Same”: The Wire, The Quint, Al Jazeera Columnist spews venom, deletes tweet later

Meer Faisal, a columnist who has published articles with rabid Islamist portals like The Wire, The Quint and Al Jazeera attacked non-Muslims stating that ‘all enemies of the Islam are the same’.

In a now deleted tweet he wrote “Laanat on all opposition parties and leaders of UP. Al Kufr Millatun Wahida” along with the hashtag #StandWithAfreenFatima.

Al Kufr Millatun Wahida literally translates to “Disbelievers/enemies of Islam are one”.

This tweet came from The Wire columnist in light of the Yogi Government’s crackdown on rioters who have been on a rampage since Friday (June 10, 2022) alleging ‘insult’ of their ‘Prophet’ by the now-expelled former BJP leader Nupur Sharma.

Meer Faisal, who works with Maktoob Media was earlier booked by the Delhi Police for peddling fake news and inciting hatred between two communities. On 3 April 2022, Meer Faisal had claimed that he and four other Muslim journalists were ‘assaulted’ at the event by a Hindu mob at The Hindu Mahapanchayat event organized by the Save India Foundation. However, the Delhi Police denied any such incident happened.

“Some of the reporters, willingly, on their own free will, to evade the crowd which was getting agitated by their presence, sat in PCR Van stationed at the venue and opted to proceed to Police Station for security reasons. No one was detained. Due police protection was provided.”, the Delhi Police had said back then.

“Remember What Happened To Sankaracharya”: DMK Mouthpiece Threatens Madurai Adheenam, Calls Him ‘Lunatic’

In yet another attack against the Madurai Adheenam, the DMK in its mouthpiece ‘Murasoli‘ has issued threats to the Saivite Mutt pontiff Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Swamigal, in light of his recent comments against the ruling DMK regime.

Quoting a Tamil proverb, the DMK in its mouthpiece equated the pontiff with a frog saying that the Madurai Adheenam head through his speeches and activities is spoiling himself just like how a frog invites the attention of the predators with its croaks.

The editorial piece in the mouthpiece also berated the late 292nd pontiff of the Madurai Adheenam Sri Arunagirinathar saying that his ‘joker-like’ activities brought disrepute to the Adheenam founded by ‘Thirunavukkarasar’.

It is to be noted that the Madurai Adheenam was founded by Tamil Saivite Sage Sri Thirugnanasambandar and not Thirunavukkarasar (also known as Appar) as mentioned by Murasoli.

The glaring error made by DMK mouthpiece Murasoli which says Thirunavukkarasar (Appar) founded the Madurai Adheenam. It was Sage Thirugnanasambandar who founded the Madurai Adheenam.

The mouthpiece also went on to cast aspersions that the late Sri Arunagirinathar Swamigal took money and made fugitive godman Nithyananda a pontiff of the Adheenam.

It also goes on to cite when Sri Arunagirinathar Swamigal exalted the late AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa as the future Prime Minister saying that the pontiff bought disrepute to the Adheenam.

“The current pontiff of the Madurai Adheenam Harihara Desigar Gnansambandam is proving to be no less than Arunagiri through his absurd speeches. His speeches and activities are such that it is angering the embodiment of patience, devotion, humility, HR&CE Minister Mr. Sekar Babu.” Murasoli in the editorial said.

It also goes on to explain how DMK Minister Sekar Babu intervened and allowed the Pattina Pravesam event of Dharmapuram Adheenam to happen. Earlier, the BJP and other Hindu organizations had risen in protest against the Mayiladuthurai Collector’s order calling for a ban of the age old tradition of the Dharmapuram Adheenam based on a petition by “Periyar”ist outfits, following which the DMK government uplifted the ban.

“While many are appreciating the Tamil Nadu government, the Chief Minister and the HR&CE Minister for taking decisions with a vision to make Tamil Nadu a peaceful place where people of all religions exist together as brothers, the Madurai Adheenam is speaking inculcating hate like a lunatic.”, the DMK mouthpiece said.

“The Madurai Adheenam is in Tamil Nadu. There are many Saiva Adheenams here. They are all going about their work without agitation. They’re to be appreciated. But the Madurai Adheenam is crossing limits. He should realize that there is a limit to patience.”, the DMK mouthpiece warned.

Citing the incident when Jayalalithaa had put Kanchi Sankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal behind bars, the editorial piece in Murasoli in a veiled threat said “What happened to Chinnavaal (taking a sly dig at Brahmins), Jayendrar during Jayalalithaa regime? We hope that today’s Madurai Adheenam remembers the incident when the ‘Mahaguru’ was made to count the jail bars. He was not just arrested and sent to jail. The many incidents that followed where his reputation was damaged, we hope the Madurai Adheenam realizes that. The Madurai Adheenam should not think that these incidents are being cited to threaten him”.

Earlier, in May 2022, the Madurai Adheenam had claimed that the ruling party was threatening him. He had said that he would be reporting to the Prime Minister and Home Minister about the same.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Tamil Nadu, he met the Madurai Adheenam briefly.

Pointing to this, Murasoli said “To the Madurai who keeps threatening that he will inform the Prime Minister and Home Minister, we’re reminding him this for his understanding. He (Madurai Adheenam) is in a position where he has to go and meet the Prime Minister. But Kanchi Sankaracharya was in a position where the Prime Minister, President and others sought appointment to meet him. Madurai Adheenam should think about what happened to such a Sankracharya and tread cautiously. The Madurai Adheenam is a ‘zero’ when compared to the political clout, media clout and devotee clout that Kanchi Sankracharya had. Don’t think that you (Madurai Adheenam) can talk anything under the garb of religious leader.”

The DMK mouthpiece said that the Madurai Adheenam should stop talking that will impact the law and order situation in the state.

Quoting BJP leader H. Raja’s remark about MK Stalin, the DMK mouthpiece warned the Madurai Adheenam that “Stalin is more dangerous than Karunanidhi”. BJP leader H. Raja had called MK Stalin more dangerous to the Hindu faith than the late DMK patriarch Karunanidhi while speaking at a rally.

This editorial by the DMK’s mouthpiece has once again drawn the battlelines between the ruling regime and the Saivite Mutts in Tamil Nadu.

Many on social media are lashing out at the DMK for threatening the head of a Mutt sacred to the Hindus and for trying to muzzle voice opposed to the regime.

The Curious Case Of Thiagarajan, The Ex-CBI Officer Who Changed The Course Of Perarivalan’s Case

In 2013, a Tamil documentary titled ‘Uyirvali – Sakkiyadikkum Satham‘, was released. It made a case for the abolition of death penalty by showing the life of Perarivalan, the now-released convicted terrorist in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.

The documentary was released by the People’s Movement Against Death Penalty (PMADP), an organization founded by the late Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer.

This organization along with Perarivalan’s mother Arputhammal had launched a massive campaign rallying support for Perarivalan. A website named ‘saveperarivalan.com’ was created as part of the campaign against his death sentence which documented his photos, letters and articles showing how justice had been erred. The documentary was just another attempt to give Perarivalan an image makeover portraying him as a victim.

But this documentary became a watershed moment in the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case as it changed the course of Perarivalan’s case. It is in this documentary that a former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer named Thiagarajan who was given the responsibility of recording the confessions of the convicts said that he erred in recording the statement of Perarivalan.

“I am Thiagarjan. I belong to the Indian Police Service. When Rajiv Gandhi Assassination took place in 1991, I was Superintendent of Police, CBI, Kerala Branch. Since I was an SP who knew Tamil, I was inducted into the team. Everybody in the team were given one assignment. I was given the assignment of recording the confessional statements. I had recorded around 16-17 confessional statements.”, he says in the documentary film.

“What is pricking me is that, at that time Arivu (Perarivalan) told me that he didn’t know why he was being asked to buy them (the batteries) and what they will do with it. He told me that he didn’t know about it at all. But while writing the confession statement I omitted the part where he said he didn’t know about it at all. The investigation was progressing then but I didn’t write that particular statement.” he says.

“Though strictly speaking law expects you to record the statement verbatim word for word and letter for letter, practically we are not doing that.”, the former CBI officer says in his testimony.

Thiagarajan goes on to shift the blame on the judiciary saying that ‘they came to a conclusion superficially’ based on the evidence presented before them.

“I felt it then itself. But nothing coud be done at that stage. That’s why I always felt a little uneasy in Arivu’s case. The confessional statement has not been appreciated the way it should’ve been appreciated.”, Thiagarajan says in that documentary.

Apparently Sivarasan (another convict in the case) had sent a message to Pottu Amman through wireless communication on May 7, 1991 stating that except Subha and Dhanu (the suicide bomber) nobody knew about the assassination plan.

Citing this, Thiagarajan in the documentary says “Automatically, it excludes the prior knowledge that Rajiv Gandhi is going to be assassinated. It excludes the knowledge of everybody else. So, this is a very solid, uncontested, unchallenged, unchallengeable evidence.”.

“I have also played a role in the sense that it was me who recorded the confession. And as I said, one thing, the confession itself is not very clear and the benefit of doubt… why the benefit of doubt, even there is subsequent internal evidence to clearly say that Arviu did not know before hand that Rajiv Gandhi was going to be killed at all. So, if he did not know that there was going to be killing, how can you make him party to the killing? It is illogical. It is against the evidence on record. Therefore, you look at it from any angle, it will be miscarriage of justice if the extreme penalty is carried out. It will be very tragic and unfortunate. That is my firm conviction.”, Thiagarajan says adding that punishing an innocent soul would be an injustice.

“In very good conscience, I thought it was my duty to get in touch with Arivu and his advocates and bring out the true import of the confessional statement so that if possible even at this last minute we can try and save a precious human life.”, Thiagarajan concludes his testimony.

The confessional statement on record reads like this “moreover I bought two nine volt battery cells (Golden Power) and gave them to Sivarasan. He used only these to make the bomb explode.”

The Supreme Court had upheld the confessional statement in the case finding it “believable.”

In an interview to Times of India in light of the documentary’s release, Thiagarajan said “As an investigator, it put me in a dilemma. It wouldn’t have qualified as a confession statement without his admission of being part of the conspiracy. There I omitted a part of his statement and added my interpretation. I regret it”.

Later in a sworn affidavit dated 27 October 2017 submitted to the Supreme Court, Thiagarajan stated that he had omitted to record Perarivalan’s statement where the latter said he did not know the purpose for which the battery was being procured.

But here is an interesting tidbit about Thiagarajan that will raise concerns about his sudden realization on Perarivalan’s confessional statement.

Remember the Sister Abhaya murder case? Abhaya was found dead in a well at the St Pius X Convent in Kottayam, Kerala on March 27, 1992. Twenty eight years later, on 22 December 2020, the special CBI court in Thiruvananthapuram found the two accused – Father Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy – guilty of murdering Sister Abhaya.

Thiagarajan, who was the SP of CBI’s Kochi unit back then, reportedly pressured his subordinate officer Varghese P Thomas who was investigating the case, to conclude it as a case of suicide based on the preliminary findings of the crime branch. The crime branch had recorded that Abhaya had committed suicide as she got only 7 marks out of 100 in her first year pre-degree examination. But it was later established that Sister Abhaya was murdered in cold-blood when she found out Father Thomas Kottu and Sister Sephy in a compromising position.

Owing to the continued harassment, Thomas took voluntary retirement despite having 10 more years in service. He alleged that Thiagarajan wanted to make it appear as a suicide to protect the interests of some political leaders.

It is this Thiagarajan who has been accused of manipulating investigations for people in power, had altered the course of Perarivalan’s case which has now resulted in the convicted terrorist being set free.

So, the following questions arise:

1) What made Thiagarajan realize that he erred after so many years?

2) Even if Thiagarajan is right and Perarivalan is the humane saint that he is portrayed to be in the documentary, shouldn’t Arputhammal, politicians, and other activists hold Thiagarajan accountable for negligence and dereliction of duty?

Millenials And Stock Markets

The stock market has been the dinner table talk for most millennials and the Gen-Z, for several years. Thanks to the pandemic, several youngsters have now gotten on to the investing bandwagon.

Digitalisation of investments with the launch of apps like Zerodha Kite, Coin Switch, Groww, Upstox and more, has made this process extremely accessible and easier across age groups. From hassle-free KYC compliances to new account opening, any investor today can open an online trading and Demat account digitally from the comfort of their homes in just a few clicks. Besides, competitive broking charges and rates have further boosted their participation.Vikram Balaji, 22, the brain behind the food blog – The MADRasi says, “It’s definitely a whole lot easier to invest through apps like Groww or Zerodha Kite instead of SBI, which was conventionally used and, it has an extremely bad UI. Now it is super easy for new people to jump into the market.”

Millennials, more than any other generation, have been more adaptable to new technology and have found new ways to achieve their financial goals. Thanks to technological tools and apps, new investors between the ages of 20 and 30 are equipping themselves with financial knowledge. They invest through investment apps and develop wealth in ways that were not possible before machine learning and artificial intelligence.

According to CNBCTV18.com, the outbreak of the Covid pandemic has resulted in 70 percent of investors being under the age of 30. Between May 2020 and September 2021, the user base of BSE has doubled to 80 million. Eighty one percent of their investments are direct into stocks. Millennials’ interest in the market can be associated with a number of factors, including their internet savvy, social media presence through which investor groups share tips, and the availability of investment apps. “Apps make it so much easier to track and keep note of your investments through apps, than through the traditional, non-existent methods, ” says Vedant Davey, 19 who has been investing from 2021.

Apps also give investors prior warnings before buying and selling. It makes it easy to access stocks, crypto, SIPs, Sovereign Gold Bonds, Index Funds, Mutual Funds and IPOs in the same app, with a customized portfolio and shortlisting feature. Investing at one’s youth helps keep the option of retiring early, open. It is also an easier way to encash your investments unlike that of real estate.

“To some extent digital apps are the reason for the increase in more youngsters entering the share market. During the pandemic, they were sitting at home with intermittent work throughout the day instead of 8 to 12 hours working. Fed up with working round the clock and spoiling their health, it is  easier for them to work for just a few hours and make quick money in the stock market,” says Ramanathan S, 68 who has benefited from the stock market since the last 40 plus years.

“For making quick money, if you do it systematically, the share market is a good place for investments”, he adds

Most youngsters in the country today have access to phones and apps, along with investing in the stock market, it is also easy to access resource material, take up courses to understand the market and how to invest and to even join different social media networks with like-minded acquaintances.

When asked if they would invest in the market without apps, Prakhar Dhakar,23 from IIT Kanpur said, “I personally still would but my frequency of investing would definitely decrease.”

“The urge wouldn’t be there because I might not be exposed to other ways and I wouldn’t have trusted stock brokers, ” says Jino J Ampakkadu, 22.

Today, almost every service in our country has been digitized and as more and more investors access the stock market, mutual funds and crypto market, it could reshape the way young Indians approach investment and also help the growth of the economy as a whole.

The Underrated Undercurrents Under Annamalai

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai turned 38 this week. Annamalai who has been in politics for less than 18 months holding the post of party president for an year, has already become a Tamil youth icon, trebled BJP’s vote share in local polls, rattled the Dravidian ecosystem and has rekindled Tamil Nadu’s dormant Hindu conscious.

Here are some of the shifts that has happened in Tamil Nadu since the ascension of Annamalai.

1. BJP’s Performance

Within a year of presidency, Annamalai has managed to pull the party’s vote share from a 30 year historical average of 2.2% to 5.6% in local body elections where non-ruling parties convert 50-60% of base. If one is to consider the local body polls as a dipstick, then it can safely be said that an 8-10% core votebank has been formed for BJP. What couldn’t be done in 30 years, Annamalai has done it in 10 months.

2. A Self-Made Credibile Face

Tamil Nadu politics post Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi suffers from a paucity of credible faces, with M.K. Stalin, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, O. Panneerselvam standing solely on party structure. The AIADMK leadership duo are in their mid 60s while Seeman and Anbumani are in their mid 50s. There is literally no one below 55 who can challenge DMK here. Annamalai at 38 stands unique, getting serious traction among voters under the age of 35 as they look for a fresh face. Afterall, the man had to build his reputation on a rudderless Tamil Nadu BJP which had become a subject of ridicule. A farmer’s son reaching heights of IIM and IPS contrasts visibly with vastly affluent ADMK heads and DMK family scions.

Therefore, Annamalai is well set to outlast all current leaders.

3. Brought In Personality Cult

As an extension of the point above, voters of Tamil Nadu are leader oriented with mass hero worship and loyalty once established lasting decades. An organic cult of personality for Annamalai is visible across age spectrum. If as a Tamil, he could get celebrated as Singham in Karnataka, this should come as no surprise.

4. Defense To Offensive Defense

Biggest change to Tamil Nadu BJP has seen since the arrival of Annamalai is, he is the one setting the political agenda of the state everyday. A 24×7 politician like Modi with aggressive attack on every little space DMK cedes. This relentless approach has enthused cadres and has reset the culture of BJP state unit.

And the key achievement of Anna’s reign has been exposing vested interests of the Dravidian Stockist media in Tamil Nadu. His press interactions are big hits and moved BJP from perpetual defense to offense mode. Like how Prime Minister Narendra Modi faced a hostile media from 2002 to 2014, Annamalai is facing it now and he is winning.

5. Anti-DMKism

Tamil Nadu BJP heads soft peddled when it came to the state’s first family. Since taking over, Annamalai has gone straight at them with corruption and nepotism charges. The late Jayalalithaa became a star because of this no holds barred approach, as anti-DMK voters perceive it as a sign of commitment.

DMK’s 20-25% Dravidian base been the central axis of Tamil Nadu politics for 6 decades. The contest here has been about galvanizing diverging interests of a majority with the rest along with a binding narrative. Annamalai’s zero compromise anti-DMK approach is outshining ADMK’s middling opposition.

6. Spiritualism

His efforts on establishing rights of Hindu mutts, rallying against evangelical conversion, protecting Temple administration from government interference has given spiritual institutions of Tamil Nadu a voice generating visible Hindu conscious for the first time in the state.

The picture below probably captures best the political astuteness of Annamalai. This is in early days of his presidency, note how he projects his personal work space. A meticulously arranged line of icons catering to both ideological base he already commands & voter base he aims to capture.

The tallest is Ambedkar as Annamalai declared that BJP will give Tamil Nadu its first Dalit CM, leveraging a chink in Dravidian armor. Next is Hindu Samrat Shivaji, with nationalists Vivekananda and Subramania Bharathi. At the back one can see Kanchi Maha Periyavar Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal and a Vel establishing his rootedness to Dharma. And then there is a pair of ploughing bulls signifying his agrarian origin.

These optics seem trivial but if a leader puts this level of thought into constructing projections from his worktable, that’s an excellent reflection of his understanding of who already backs him and who he is aiming to attract. This intellect is key to winning in the Dravidian ecosystem.

As a self-made leader with an incorruptible image, he has delivered electorally within one year, replaced ADMK as the primary anti-DMK force in perception & building grassroots strength to convert that perception into results in 2024 and 2026. TN and BJP have struck gold with Annamalai.

Uttar Pradesh Becomes Third Indian State To Sign MoU With Isha Outreach To Save Soil

Uttar Pradesh today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Isha Outreach to conserve soil in the state joining Gujarat and Rajasthan to officially join the Global Movement to Save Soil. The MoU was signed at a Save Soil event in Lucknow in the presence of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Sadhguru, Founder- Isha Foundation. Sadhguru also handed the Save Soil Revitalization Handbook to the Chief Minister. The handbook offers practical, scientific solutions that governments can put into action to revitalize the soil in their country.

The Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Shri Surya Pratap Shahi, Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Bindal, Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Shri Durga Shanker Mishra other senior government officials attended the event along with over five thousand people.

“Right now, for the first time in the history of humanity, the top scientists in the world are using the word extinction in relationship with soil.” said Sadhguru, reminding the audience the critical nature of the situation. Expressing his confidence on soil being rejuvenated, he said, “India should take a lead because forever we have called Soil as mother.  In India, Uttar Pradesh which is the largest tract of land and the most agriculturally prolific land must take the lead.”

Yogi Adityanath welcomed Sadhguru and expressed his happiness at rejuvenating more than 60 rivers since Sadhguru’s last visit in the state, as part of his Rally for Rivers movement. The Chief Minster highlighted the steps taken by the government to take care of the fertility of the soil and recalled the action taken to clean and protect River Ganga under Namami Ganga project. Calling the Save Soil Movement and Rally for rivers extremely important initiatives, he expressed his trust that more than 25 crore people of the state will join to support the movement.

Sadhguru who on March 21st 2022 embarked on a lone motorcycle journey across Europe, Central Asia and Middle East nations few days ago reached the Western port city of Jamnagar, Gujarat. Continuing his Indian leg of journey across 9 Indian states, he has passed through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and New Delhi. At a Save Soil event in New Delhi, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined Sadhguru to express his wholehearted support and encouragement for the movement. Sadhguru also presented the Save Soil Policy Handbook to Prime Minister, which offers practical, scientific solutions that governments can put into action to revitalize the soil in their country.

Since his arrival in India, the Government of Gujarat and Rajasthan have signed an MoU to Save Soil in the state. The movement, till date, has touched 2.5 billion people while 74 countries have agreed to act to save their nations’ soils. Over 15 lakh children in India have written to the Prime Minister as well, requesting him to act to save the nation’s soil and their collective future. More than 65,000 students of from more than 300 schools in over 25 districts of UP have written letters to the Prime Minister.

The primary objective of the Save Soil Movement is to urge all nations of the world to mandate a minimum of 3-6% organic content in agricultural soils through urgent policy reforms. Without this minimum organic content, soil scientists have warned of the imminent death of soil, a phenomenon they are terming as ‘soil extinction.’

In India, nearly 30% of fertile soils in the country have already become barren and are incapable of yield. The United Nations has warned that at current rates of soil degradation, 90% of the earth could turn into desert by 2050- less than three decades from now. To avert this catastrophe, Sadhguru initiated the Save Soil movement in March this year, and travelled across 27 countries meeting leaders, politicians, scientists and citizens to galvanise support to Save Soil.

The Save Soil Movement is supported by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN World Food Programme, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Subramanian Swamy petitions EC to debar DMK for hate-speech against Brahmins

BJP leader Dr. Subramanian Swamy has written to the Election Commission of India to initiate action against DMK over one of its spokespersons calling for genocide of Brahmins in Tamil Nadu.

DMK spokesperson Rajiv Gandhi while responding to a political commentator on Twitter said “Had only the Shudras carried out Periyar’s instructions, they wouldn’t have to fight with people like you today to get justice, employment, rights, education, employment and equality. At 3% you are still encroaching a lot of the space.”.

Political commentator Sumanth Raman had shared a snippet of  E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker (EVR)’s speech in which the anti-Hindu hate mongerer calls for killing Tamil Brahmins.

The incident was taken cognizance by Dr. Swamy after The Commune published an article about the same following which the BJP leader said that he has written to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin asking for the DMK to publicly apologize and remove the offender from the party post. He also said that he would move the High Court if not done.

With no action taken against the DMK spokesperson, Dr. Subramanian Swamy has now written to the Election Commission calling for cancelling the registration of DMK and withdrawal of its electoral symbol ‘rising sun’.

In his letter, Dr. Swamy said that the DMK has violated the principles laid down by the Election Commission based on the Representation of People’s Act.

“The said Secretary has declared that Brahmins of Tamil Nadu should be subject to genocide as was recommended earlier by the Founder of the “Dravidian” movement led by E.V. Ramaswami Nayakar (known as Periyar to the DMK). This threat directly impinges on the fundamental rights of the so-called Brahmin community in Tamil Nadu and could affect also the said Brahmin community’s voting rights out of fear so that they would not go to vote in elections, making it easier for the DMK to get elected in several constituencies.”, Dr. Swami wrote in his letter.

He also said that he would be happy to adduce legal advice and submit necessary documents for the cancellation of DMK’s registration and withdrawal of its symbol once the Commission takes notice and holds prima facie that the threat issued by the DMK spokesperson violates the Representation of People’s Act.

He concluded his letter stating that the matter is urgent and requested the Commission to take appropriate steps to bring the DMK to justice.

DMK Govt Faces Yet Another Setback As YouTuber Karthik Gopinath Gets Bail

In yet another instance of the courts setting free YouTubers arrested by the DMK government, Karthik Gopinath was granted bail in the case relating to the money raised by him for renovating temples at Siruvachur.

Karthik Gopinath, a prominent Tamil YouTuber who runs the Ilaya Bharatham YouTube channel, was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police on Monday (May 30, 2022).

Karthik who identifies himself as a nationalist, is known for his videos criticising the DMK.

He was arrested over the issue of raising money for temples at Siruvachur in Perambalur district where idols were vandalized in the months of October and November 2021.

It was reported that Karthik Gopinath had collected funds through fund-raising app Milaap to renovate the desecrated temples at Siruvachur.

However there has been debate over his collection of money for a temple under HR&CE control.

Elements supportive of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu used the issue to launch a witch-hunt against the YouTuber.

A police complaint was filed following which Karthik was arrested on the morning of May 30. He was charged with sections 420 and 409 of the India Penal Code.

The Court felt it fit to grant him bail and did not find merit in Tamil Nadu police’s argument to even grant police custody for interrogation.

Meanwhile the case filed to quash the FIRs against the YouTuber will be heard on Monday (June 13, 2022).

This is not the first time that the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu was made to bite dust by the courts.

In December 2021, the Madras High Court quashed the Goondas Act against Kishore following which he was released from prison.

TN HR&CE Min Threatens Madurai Saivite Mutt Pontiff, “Just Touch And See” Says BJP TN Head

Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Minister P. Sekar Babu has openly threatened the pontiff of Madurai Adheenam, Sri La Sri Harihara Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Swamigal, for his remarks on the DMK government and HR&CE department.

Addressing a meeting organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Madurai, the seer said “the government does not interfere in the functioning of Churches or Mosques. But the government interferes in the functioning of our temples through the HR&CE department.”

He called for the disbanding of the department stating that it has turned temples into a den for looters plunderers.

“Temples should be ideally given to us (Aadheenams). It is okay even if they don’t give them to us. A judge with a panel of lawyers should administer the temples. The panel will also consult pontiffs and local people. This is how temples should be managed,” the Swamigal had said.

“First of all, what business does a politician have in temples? The temple wealth have been taken over by the ruling party and the opposition.

The Swamigal had also urged Hindu devotees to not put money in the hundis of HR&CE temples.

“People are asking ‘can the Adheenams speak politics?’. If not us, who will speak ?”, the seer said.

Responding to the comments of the seer, HR&CE Minister Sekar Babu said “I am toning down the response because of the advice given by the Chief Minister. We can also pounce and hit you back. We’re refraining from doing so as it wouldn’t augur well. He (the seer) should not see us holding back as fear. We also know to pounce.”

He further added “The Madurai Adheenam has been continuously speaking like a politician, which the HR&CE Department won’t allow. Madurai Adheenam is trying to portray as if all the Adheenams are against this government. He doesn’t have the right to say that we can’t interfere in temples. If he keeps indulging in such talks we also know how to respond in kind.”

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai condemned HR&CE Minister for threatening the pontiff of Madurai Adheenam and dared the DMK government to lay a finger on the Adheenam.

“The only job for Sekar Babu is to go to every place and threaten the spiritual seers of this land. In the latest incident, he is threatening the Madurai Adheenam. He saying ‘Watch your words. We’re keeping calm now. Problem will come if I show the face of the old Sekar Babu.’. The Narendra Modi government is waiting for you to show your old face. Your government has four more years. Lok Sabha elections are 2 years away. We dare you to lay your finger on Madurai Adheenam and see. Just touch and see. We’re waiting for it.”, the BJP Tamil Nadu chief said.

Mr. Annamalai also drew attention to the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madurai Adheenam pontiff.

“Brother Sekar Babu should have atleast been cautious after seeing the photo of the two. If he is not prudent even then, it means that his bad time has started.”, Mr. Annamalai said.
