Subramanian Swamy petitions EC to debar DMK for hate-speech against Brahmins

BJP leader Dr. Subramanian Swamy has written to the Election Commission of India to initiate action against DMK over one of its spokespersons calling for genocide of Brahmins in Tamil Nadu.

DMK spokesperson Rajiv Gandhi while responding to a political commentator on Twitter said “Had only the Shudras carried out Periyar’s instructions, they wouldn’t have to fight with people like you today to get justice, employment, rights, education, employment and equality. At 3% you are still encroaching a lot of the space.”.

Political commentator Sumanth Raman had shared a snippet of  E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker (EVR)’s speech in which the anti-Hindu hate mongerer calls for killing Tamil Brahmins.

The incident was taken cognizance by Dr. Swamy after The Commune published an article about the same following which the BJP leader said that he has written to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin asking for the DMK to publicly apologize and remove the offender from the party post. He also said that he would move the High Court if not done.

With no action taken against the DMK spokesperson, Dr. Subramanian Swamy has now written to the Election Commission calling for cancelling the registration of DMK and withdrawal of its electoral symbol ‘rising sun’.

In his letter, Dr. Swamy said that the DMK has violated the principles laid down by the Election Commission based on the Representation of People’s Act.

“The said Secretary has declared that Brahmins of Tamil Nadu should be subject to genocide as was recommended earlier by the Founder of the “Dravidian” movement led by E.V. Ramaswami Nayakar (known as Periyar to the DMK). This threat directly impinges on the fundamental rights of the so-called Brahmin community in Tamil Nadu and could affect also the said Brahmin community’s voting rights out of fear so that they would not go to vote in elections, making it easier for the DMK to get elected in several constituencies.”, Dr. Swami wrote in his letter.

He also said that he would be happy to adduce legal advice and submit necessary documents for the cancellation of DMK’s registration and withdrawal of its symbol once the Commission takes notice and holds prima facie that the threat issued by the DMK spokesperson violates the Representation of People’s Act.

He concluded his letter stating that the matter is urgent and requested the Commission to take appropriate steps to bring the DMK to justice.
