In a recent incident at KMCT law college campus in Kuttippuram, Malappuram, Kerala BJP candidate Nivedida Subramanian was barred from entering by members of of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Muslim Students Federation (MSF). The incident occurred during Nivedida’s campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
According to reports, Subramanian was interacting with students on one side of the campus when she attempted to move to the other and was obstructed by SFI and MSF students who staged a protest. Despite her attempts to reason with them, she was unable to proceed and eventually left at the request of campus authorities.
The incident, captured in a viral video on social media, depicts SFI and MSF members clad in white clothing, outnumbering her. The presence of some demonstrators in burqas has also been noted, prompting criticism from netizens for what they perceive as an act of intimidation.

The BJP has alleged a larger conspiracy behind the incident, citing a similar occurrence in Kollam where SFI students blocked NDA candidate G Krishnakumar. Despite these protests, Krishnakumar was able to address the audience.
The incident has reignited debates surrounding the activities of SFI and MSF, with the former being accused of fostering a climate of intimidation and violence, particularly in West Bengal and Kerala. MSF, as the student wing of IUML, a political organization associated with the Congress in Kerala, has also faced scrutiny.
Nivedida Subramanian entered her first electoral contest at the age of 45 in 2016 in Guruvayur. She is BJP’s candidate for Ponnani, a Muslim League stronghold, and aims to make BJP’s presence felt in Kerala. State President of BJP’s Mahila Morcha, she gained visibility for organising PM Modi’s Sthree Shakti meet in Thrissur and was also seen standing next to Modi during the Thrissur road show. Subramanian’s political journey began at age three, when she accompanied her mother, Radha Balakrishnan, and was jailed during the Emergency. Her mother served as the state president of Mahila Morcha.

The Singhanallur Assembly Constituency Assistant Returning Officer denied permission for the “Professional in Politics” programme, citing concerns of potential law and order issues during the ongoing Parliamentary Elections. There is a debate raging on social media regarding the religious affiliation of Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator, Seeman. This controversy emerged from a recent show where the controversial political commentator Savukku Shankar discussed NTK’s performance in preparation for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The discussion quickly went viral, reigniting the longstanding dispute between online users and supporters of NTK.
Political commentator Savukku Shankar on his YouTube channel Savukku Media, in a conversation with hosts Abdul Muthaleef and Lenin, Savukku Shankar discussed things that revolved around Seeman who initially claimed to be a Marxist and atheist but later began praising Periyar and later identified himself with the Hindu Tamil community. Shankar expresses skepticism about this sudden change, pointing out Seeman’s previous attempts to conceal his religion. He also mentions Seeman’s past arrest during the DMK period and their involvement in legal proceedings as proof. Overall, the discussion highlights concerns about the Seeman shifting identity and potential exploitation of religious affiliations for personal gain. Muthaleef: What is the problem here is, he had said in the beginning that he believed in Marxism and does not believe in God. Shankar:Yes, how much has he spoken on the stage praising Periyar? Muthaleef:He spoke, but hasn’t he proved that he has no faith in God? But now he suddenly (one day) wakes up and says I’m Tamil. Shankar:First, he tried to hide his religion, his on-record name is Simon, how am I so sure you ask? Remember he was arrested and jailed during the DMK rule in 2006? Do you remember they filed a case under Goondas Act? He was in Vellore prison, right? I and Pugazhendi filed a Habeas Corpus.
Shankar continued, “As we were analysing the case, I became aware of his religious background, he is a Christian. However, he’s now attempting to alter his identity by professing devotion to Murugan and such. Regardless of his religious affiliation, he’s exploiting it to his advantage, which is problematic.”
Is Seeman’s Alleged Christian Affiliation True?
It appears to be factually accurate based on Seeman’s past activities and the news reports confirming that he is Christian, and his name is Sebastian Seeman, not simply Seeman. The Hindu reported on two occasions: in 2009, Canadian immigration officials arrested and deported Tamil film director Sebastian Seeman for allegedly delivering inflammatory speeches coinciding with the birth anniversary of the LTTE chief, Velupillai Prabakaran. Another report elaborated on Sebastian Seeman’s path from advocating for Tamil Eezham to his involvement in current political party structures. In both articles, he is referred to as Sebastian Seeman, and it’s noteworthy that the name Sebastian is typically associated with Christians, as it originated from Saint Sebastian, a third-century pastor.
During an episode of the “Nerukku Ner” show on Sathyam TV, hosted by Mukthar Ahmed, Kalanjiyam, a director and the chief of Tamilar Nalan Periyakkam organization, who has a close association with Seeman and has actively participated in numerous election campaigns supporting Seeman, was invited as a guest. When questioned by the host Mukthar about Seeman and his family’s religious affiliation, Kalanjiyam confirmed that they are Christians, citing the family members’ names: James (brother), Sebastian (father), Annamal (mother), and highlighted that the entire family follows the Christian faith.
Seeman also faced allegations of selectively criticizing Sakthi Masala products for not printing in Tamil on their packaging while overlooking other brands like Aachi masala, allegedly due to Sakthi Masala being Hindu-owned and Aachi masala being Christian-owned, with Seeman himself being Christian. In the past, social media witnessed a stir when members of the Naam Tamilar Katchi and its IT wing advocated for a boycott of Sakthi Masala. The reason behind this call was the placement of Tamil text beneath English and Hindi on the masala packets. This move garnered attention due to suspicions that it was not merely a fringe activity of the party, but rather, it was perceived to serve an underlying agenda aimed at supporting Aachi Masala, Sakthi’s competitor. It’s being suggested that Aachi Masala has a history of endorsing individuals with anti-Hindu sentiments.

The residents’ intense anger stems from recent events in Rayappa Nagar. In March 2024, two deaths occurred in the area due to a mysterious fever. Despite assurances from District Collector K Karpagam that there was no dengue outbreak, concerns remained. Further investigations revealed that sewage had mixed with the drinking water supply, originating from a borewell in the locality. Despite this, there was no immediate response from authorities. When the DMK cadres, led by MLA Prabhakaran, visited the victims’ houses, attempting to portray sympathy, their actions were seen as insincere by residents and youth, leading to resentment and the eventual expulsion of DMK party members from the area.
The enraged young individuals interrogated the members of the DMK party, “Only last time, he (MLA) came to ask for votes in the election, if he had come when the victims died, then this problem (protest) would not have happened, what have you done for us?”
“Okay, he was busy, where did the others go? You came to the town only to ask for votes, it has been four years since you came, and what did you do? Will you come only after our death? If this was your son, would you be idle? Won’t you ask then?”

The animosity of the Dravidian political ecosystem towards the renowned Tamil poet Bharathiyar has been well-documented over the years, stemming from various instances of disdain and mockery directed at the poet and his works. Here, is a comprehensive thread highlighting the relentless campaign of hatred peddled against Bharathiyar by figures within the Dravidian movement:
EVR’s Mockery Of Bharathiyar’s Patriotism
E.V. Ramasamy (EVR) also known as Periyar, a prominent figure in the Dravidian movement, was recorded making disparaging remarks about Bharathiyar’s patriotic poems. In a derisive tone, EVR belittled Bharathiyar’s work, stating, “On hearing the word Senthamizhnaadu, honey does not flow in one’s ears, but onion. It feels like a scorpion stinging the ear.” This instance exemplifies the contemptuous attitude towards Bharathiyar’s literary contributions.
This is a lie.
Bharathi has been vehemently criticized by EVR and people from DK.
Even after Bharathi's death, EVR, Maniyammai and others from their movement kept asking "Tamils" to not take part in any of Bharathi's birthday or memorial events.
Kuthoosi Gurusami, another figure associated with the Dravidian movement, likened Bharathiyar’s poems to “Unsold Omapodi” and “foul-smelling Boondi (a snacks),” disparaging his works and attempting to diminish their significance. He said, “Although poet Bharathiyar’s birthday is commemorated across the nation, his verses resemble stale and unappealing snacks with a bad odor, akin to a shop peddling secondhand and aged merchandise.”
Maniyammai’s Disparagement
In 1944, Maniyammai, a proponent of the Dravidian movement, subtly discouraged Tamils from attending Bharathiyar’s memorial events. Maniyammai raised the question of whether Bharathiyar leans more towards the Aryan race or the Dravidian race. She cast doubt on the intentions behind Bharathiyar’s poems, insinuating that they were irrelevant and unworthy of commemoration.
EVR’s Criticism in Theechudar
EVRamasamy criticized Bharathiyar in the journal Theechudar. He questioned the elevation of Bharathiyar as an immortal poet, suggesting that such praise was unwarranted and influenced by Bharathiyar’s Brahmin caste. EVR’s remarks aimed to undermine Bharathiyar’s literary legacy and cast doubt on his poetic prowess. He wrote, “They say Bharathi is an immortal poet…even if a rat dies in an agraharam, they would declare it to be immortal. ..of Tamil Nadu praises him. Why should this be so?”.
Pulavar Kulandhai’s Accusation
Pulavar Kulandhai, a Dravidian poet, accused Bharathiyar of inserting Sanskrit into Tamil under the guise of nationalism. He claimed that Bharathiyar’s advocacy for the unity of Sanskrit and Tamil led to a loss of pride among Tamil speakers and their subjugation to Northern influences. He wrote, “In the name of nationalism, Bharathi inserted Sanskrit into Tamil, caused themselves to lose pride in their own community and enslaved them to northerners.”
These instances collectively demonstrate the systematic vilification of Bharathiyar by elements within the Dravidian political ecosystem. Despite attempts to tarnish his reputation and legacy, Bharathiyar’s enduring influence and contributions to Tamil literature remain indelible. As the saying goes, “Dogs keep barking at the rising sun won’t do harm for the sun,” indicating that the greatness of Bharathiyar transcends the petty criticisms of detractors.

Poisonous Creepers In School Curriculum
When one looks into the contents of the textbooks of the schools in Tamil Nadu, one will be shocked, to say the least. Here are two examples from the ninth standard Tamil book:
Lesson titled Ravana Kaviyam. Yes, you read it right. Still, if you have any doubt, the footnote at the end describes it distinctly that it is an antithesis of the original Ramayanam. It is a panegyric on Ravana, as the hero. In that book, all the nefarious characters in the original Valmiki Ramayana are portrayed as noble models while Rama and his companions are depicted as scurrilous specimens.
A small citation in the course of the lesson is by no less a person than the former Chief Minister C N Annadurai asserting that this work, Ravana Kaviyam is a necessity of the current age, a result of research, a spark of revolt, a glorious literature revealing the truth! The author is a follower of EVR, the Dravidian icon. This C N Annadurai had himself written a few controversial books on Kamba Ramayanam, viz., ‘Kamba Rasam’, ‘Thee Paravattum’. Their filthy contents, bordering on obscenity will be extremely revolting and repulsive to any ordinary reader.
People have the freedom to write anything in a free society as long as it does not hurt others. If one chooses to even cross that Lakshman Rekha, others can either care to counter it with their own point of view or better still, just ignore it. For instance, a few years ago, a depraved director took a despicable film distorting the characters from Ramayana and it flopped at the box office since the audience did not relish it. But, can portions from a conspicuously controversial book be included in a school textbook? Worshipping Sri Rama is not only confined to Hindus or India. He is a venerated figure all over the world, transcending borders, religions, cults, etc. He is the human form of Dharma itself and this certificate is given not by any devotee of Sri Rama but by one from his enemy camp Mareecha:
रामो विग्रहवान् धर्मः साधुः सत्य पराक्रमः।
राजा सर्वस्य लोकस्य देवानाम् इव वासवः॥ [Aranya Kandam 37-13]
This beautiful shloka by Mareecha gives a one shloka definition for Sri Rama: “Rama is the embodiment of Dharma. He is a noble person. bestowing welfare to every creature. His valour never goes in vain. Just as Indra is the king of the Gods, Rama is the king of this entire universe.”
A lesson in a school textbook must be studied, and neither the teacher nor the students have the liberty to contradict its contents while doing so. One may individually hold a differing opinion in private, but expressing such diametrically opposite views in the classroom or writing them during examinations is not permissible. This practice plants pernicious postulates in the impressionable minds of the young. The inclusion of such material in textbooks, and its continuation for years, is beyond comprehension. Will anybody bell the cat?
Another lesson is ‘Periyarin Sindanaikal’. Almost all the statements not only adhere to ‘Purusha Thantram,’ as elucidated below, but they also abound with numerous incorrect and disputable falsehoods masquerading as facts.
In Tharka Sastram, the equivalent of Logic, there are two terms, ‘Vasthu Thantram’ and ‘Purusha Thantram’. The former refers to statements of universal truths independent of the person who expresses it while the latter is a statement of individual opinion. Consequently, the latter is subject to deliberations, debates, and corrections. When one goes through the book, one can see that a major part of the book contains the second variety also with a blatant leaning towards the Dravidian doctrine.
Persons like Dr. U V Swaminatha Iyer, Thiru Vi Ka, just to mention a few, who contributed significantly to Tamil literature are conspicuously absent while characters like Caldwell, Max Mueller, and William Jones, evangelists who studied our language with a hidden agenda, are excessively eulogised. None of the lessons contains promotion of a nationalistic spirit; patriotism is scrupulously confined only to the mandatory first page of the national anthem and integration pledge. Why can’t it include lessons on freedom fighters like Neelakanta Brahmachari, V O C, Satyamurthy or prominent public figures like Abdul Kalam, C V Raman, etc., or heroes in Indian history like Chhatrapati Shivaji, Krishna Deva Rayar, etc.?
Incidentally, we do not object to alternative views on anything, per se. In fact, our Sanathana Dharma, wrongly christened as Hinduism is the most equitable and egalitarian in its approach. It is never dogmatic or peremptory. It encourages deep inquiry by the student. Our Upanishads are mostly in the form of questions and answers between the teacher and the taught (student). In Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the most popular work where Arjuna prostrates before Lord Krishna pleading, ‘I am confused. I consider you as my Guru. Kindly guide me.’ Lord provides him with an elaborate set of teachings extending to all aspects of life. But, it is significant to note that at the end, in the eighteenth chapter, he says,
इति ते ज्ञानमाख्यातं गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं मया |
विमृश्यैतदशेषेण यथेच्छसि तथा कुरु ||18-63||
[“Thus, I have explained to you this knowledge that is more secret than all secrets. Ponder over it deeply, and then do as you wish. The Lord gives Arjuna the freedom to contemplate all his words and then decide for himself a further course of action. Can such a statement be found in any texts of any other religion?”]
Just to illustrate the scope for arguments in our Sanathana Dharma. let us take the history of Sankaracharya. By an impeccable knowledge of all our scriptures, intellectual acumen, and consummate logical skills, he was able to convince and win over as many as 72 other religious doctrines and establish the preeminence of his postulate, Advaitam.
Sanathana Dharma is all inclusive. As for the so-called atheism that the Dravidians proudly profess from the pulpit, it is already present in Sanathana Dharma. It is called, Charvakam. As such, we are not objecting to their doctrine. But, including it with ulterior motives while simultaneously excluding the basic tenets that are being followed by the majority of society scrupulously in school textbooks smacks of sinister motives. The mischievous intention is to poison the tender minds of the young and nurture them into a negative individual, a burden to society. Moral lessons, virtuous conduct, and faith in a higher power that guides one in the righteous path are the initial motivating factors that shape the personality of the youth. The pathetic fact is that other avenues of information have already been polluted beyond repair. The TV serials with plenty of hateful and hideous content contaminate the minds of the housewives. The less said the better on the present-day films. If the schools too fail to shape the character of the children at their formative age and thus turn them into irresponsible citizens, what will happen to the health of the society?
Not only the contents of this particular Tamil book, but the entire set of books, especially history should be thoroughly rewritten. The defeatist descriptive narration in detail under the Mughals and the British thrust on us by the anti-national scripters should be drastically reduced and instead, triumphant details of Lachit Borphukhan, Rana Pratap Singh, Bappa Rawal, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Rajaraja Cholan to mention a few should be included on an all India level, promoting the nationalistic spirit and an attitude to serve the society. Even after independence, for several decades the rectification task has been inexplicably delayed. Let us start now.
Those who freely include this in the book citing freedom of opinion, have the guts and gumption to attempt such opprobrious stuff from the literature of other religions? We do not, even for a moment suggest that step. Our question is ‘Why such freedom is exercised only in the case of the Hindu religion?

Once again, the social media has brought to light old videos featuring Director Ameer Sultan, where he appears to endorse the establishment of Islamic rule through political avenues in a promotional video for the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK), supporting its political front Manithaneya Makkal Katchi party. This video is rapidly spreading, coinciding with Ameer being investigated by the NCB into his alleged connections with international drug lord Jaffer Sadiq’s Delhi Drug Scandal case.
Director Ameer Sultan was advocating that, “Proclaiming religion by calling for establishing an Islamic regime without politics is pure nonsense because our country is a democratic country. In this country, how can one be a ruler, how can one come and sit in the ruling class, whatever methods are there to reach that point, the right solution is to go through it.
In that sense, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, which is going to commence their political journey today will surely be an example. Some may ask whether there were no Islamic parties in India before, what Manithaneya Makkal Katchi is going to do new. Islamic parties have existed before but they have been as parties only as namesakes. They have been as parties that mortgage themselves for mere one or two seats, and there is no doubt that the situation will change and this Manithaneya Makkal Katchi will be a great example of that. I have that hope, Inshallah.”

However, the revelations didn’t stop there. It was startling to witness additional videos surfacing featuring leaders and the chief of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) advocating for Islamic rule in India based on religious texts and doctrines. They propagated narratives, drew parallels of everything to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and openly declared jihad against foreign nations. It’s noteworthy that the MMK is presently aligned with the DMK for the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The MH Jawahirullah MMK chief’s press conference condemning the Sri Lankan church bomb blast took an unexpected turn when he denounced ISIS. Instead of solely condemning the group, he accused the USA of orchestrating ISIS’s creation to marginalize Muslims and denigrate their faith. Instead of saying ISIS, a terrorist organization, claimed responsibility for the incident, he claimed it was formed by the USA, was behind the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka. He likened ISIS to the RSS, stating both are extremist groups opposed to Muslims.

On another instance, MH Jawahirullah, the leader of the MMK was observed advocating for the establishment of Islamic rule in India during his lifetime. MH Jawahirullah said, “In our time, in a clear manner, according to the guidance of Qur’an and the Hadith that can provide… we who are gathered here, even the people who have not come to this conference, come together with a clear vision in all fields, be it worship, be it social life, be it our business, be it our politics, in all fields. If we follow Quran and Hadith and make a plan for others to follow. Surely, the chant of La Ilaha Illallah Muhammad Rasulullah will be heard in the four corners of this country”

During another incident, it was deeply unsettling to witness a speaker at MMK advocating for Jihad against the USA. On stage, he vehemently proclaimed that the Muslim world would wage a holy war against the USA, expressing a desire for a death where their hands and bodies would be torn apart. He expressed anticipation for a holy war of such magnitude, even if it meant enduring the destruction of families, witnessing the killing of children before their eyes, or the brutal murder of spouses and parents. He emphasized that no legal system, court, or punishment in the country could compare to the severity of retribution he sought for those who insulted Prophet Mohammed.

It is clear that individuals who engage in promoting violence, hate speech, and discrimination against communities and faiths, including racists, blasphemers, hate mongers, and casteists, often conceal their actions under the guise of social justice, benefiting from the strong support of the DMK in Tamil Nadu.

The banner had caricatured images of Narendra Modi as Lord Ram and Amit Shah as Lord Lakshman holding bow and arrows standing on either sides of a naked woman (Goddess Sita), hinting at the horrific incident in Manipur in which a woman was paraded naked and sexually assaulted. The Indian tricolour can be seen covering the female genitals and the breasts of the caricatured woman.
After much outrage, Jawahirullah took to social media and apologized for the derogatory board placed by members of his party.
In the DMK’s recent announcement of candidates in Tamil Nadu for 2024 also has sparked surprise and criticism. Notably, Selvaganapathy, allegedly resembling the casteist character Rathinavelu in the movie ‘Maamannan’, was nominated for the Salem Parliamentary constituency. Selvaganapathy, previously embroiled in a scandal involving a cremation shed and ousted from his position as a Rajya Sabha MP, saw his conviction temporarily halted by the Madras High Court under Justice Jeyachandran.
Additionally, another DMK candidate, Suriamoorthi, has come under fire on social media due to an old video showing him verbally abusing and threatening violence against Dalits.
The derogatory remarks made by DMK Alliance MPs such as VCK’s Thirumavalavan and DMK A Raja regarding Hindu beliefs and faith are well-documented and do not require further mention.
