DMK Ally VCK Chief And Lok Sabha MP Thirumavalvan Hugs Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Convict, Calls Them Innocents

Ever since the release of the six convicts in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on “technical grounds” by the Supreme Court using article 142 of the constitution which gives supreme power to the Supreme Court to pass any judgement to uphold justice, parties like DMK, VCK and fringe groups like Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) were glorifying the assassins and calling them as innocents. This propaganda was led by mainstream Tamil media and certain sections of news websites, which were trying to project Rajiv Gandhi’s assassins as heroes.

In a similar effort to glorify the convicts, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi Chief and Lok Sabha MP Thirumavalvan met with the convict of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination Ravichandran and referred to the 7 convicts as “innocents” despite being convicted of the crime from lower courts to the Supreme Court. VCK MP can be seen hugging the Rajiv Gandhi assassin Ravichandran, who greets Thirumavalavan with a shawl.

Thirumavalavan in an interview with Times Now said,”Even though he (Ravichandran) was in prison, the actual culprits escaped from the case. This is my conviction. The Supreme Court itself released him and five other convicts using article 142, without any political influence. They were not released using article 161 of the constitution (using the state government’s power) on the basis of political grounds. They were released by the Supreme Court, so meeting with them is not illegal.”

He continued, “It was he (Ravichandran) who traveled to Chennai to thank the politicians, advocates, and friends who had helped secure his release. As part of it, he met with me and thanked me and my cadres for our role in his release. So this is not against the morality of the politics.”

When asked about the review petition filed by the Central government and Congress against the release of six convicts, he said,”It is a routine procedure and expected one, an unfortunate one. I believe that the move of Congress and Central government will not affect the release of the six convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.”

He further said that meeting Ravichandran will not send the wrong message in political space and that he does not believe that Ravichandran is a convict, who according to him is an innocent victimized by law and bureaucrats.

He further said,”As I am not meeting with the real culprits of Rajiv Gandhi assassination, hence it will not affect our relationship with the Congress party. I strongly believe that the people like Nalini, Ravichandran, and Perarivalan who belong to Tamil Nadu have no role to play in Rajiv’s assassination.”

TN CM MK Stalin Enquires About His Son’s Latest Film From State Health Min

A video Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s public relations (PR) video is making headlines for all the wrong reasons, as he can be seen enquiring about his son Udhayanidhi Stalin’s recently released film.

Kalaga Thalaivan is an Indian Tamil-language alleged action-thriller film written and directed by Magizh Thirumeni and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin under the banner of Red Giant Movies. The film stars Udhayanidhi Stalin himself, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Kalaiyarasan in lead roles and was released last Friday to mixed reviews, despite being directed by a leading director whose last film “Thadam” was a blockbuster hit.

Now, the film has made headlines for all the wrong reasons, leading one to think if the state Chief Minister himself has jumped into the fray to promote his son’s film.

In the 22-second video, Chief Minister MK Stalin is seen asking Tamil Nadu Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma Subramanium if he has seen Udhayanithi Stalin’s Kalaga Thalaivan.

In reply, Health Minister is heard saying, “Yes, I saw the film. Normally in theatre, people will go out during songs or little boring scenes, but for Kalaga Thalaivan (Udhayanithi’s movie), people did not move from their seats and stayed throughout.”

It should be noted that the film Kalaga Thaaivan, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, is the only movie in his direction that is released with mixed reviews; all of his other films, including Thadam, Thadaiyara Thaaka, and Meghaman, have received both critical acclaim and box office success.

The video has drawn flak from all sections of the people. D Jayakumar, the former Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister and AIADMK spokesperson slammed Udhayanidhi and MK Stalin, saying,”While Rome burns, Nero plays the fiddle. Similarly, people in Tamil Nadu are suffering as a result of rain, floods, and food shortages; there are no medical camps, and government hospitals perform botched surgeries. But CM Stalin is unconcerned about any of this. Instead, Stalin and Udhayanithi Stalin discuss only movies.”

Was Sanskrit Compulsory To Study Medicine In Madras Presidency? Here’s What The Evidence Says

PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister, had posted a video on his Twitter handle commemorating the formation of the Justice Party, the parent organization of today’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He stated that its ideologies of inclusive growth and social justice are becoming increasingly relevant as disparity grows in this period and that MK Stalin’s Dravidian Model Govt, founded on these values, strives for a fair and just society.

The Justice Party is described in a video posted on his Twitter account, which says,”100 years ago, there is no political party for the majority people here (erstwhile Madras state). Women did not have the right to vote. There was no reservation system in education and jobs. From school to college studies, most teachers and students belonged to a particular section of the society (Brahmins).”

It added, “It was a time when knowing Sanskrit was mandatory to study medicine and not everyone was allowed to enter temples. In this case, on November 20, 1916, Justice Party which was the South Indian Liberation Front earlier, was formed to restore the self-esteem of the oppressed and backward people.”

This is not the first time that DMK leader PTR has made this claim.

Earlier in May 2020, he claimed the same while responding to prominent economist Prof. Shamika Ravi.

However, this claim that Sanskrit knowledge was mandatory to study medicine in erstwhile Tamil Nadu, seems to be a perennial bogus propaganda of Dravidian Stockists to further their malicious propaganda against the Sanskrit language and Brahmins.

Political commentator Dr. Sumanth Raman, who is known for coming across as a subject matter expert on all subjects, asked PTR if he could publish the GO (Government Order) from the government archives, which states that knowing Sanskrit was necessary to study medicine.

Instead of answering a simple question about the GO declaring Sanskrit necessary to study medicine during the Justice Party’s tenure, Dravidian Stockists began abusing Sumanth Raman by disparaging his caste and bringing up the Aryan-Dravidian theory.

The Dravidian Stockists posted an image from KAP Vishwanathan’s book “Enathu Nanbargal (My Friends)” to claim that Sanskrit was compulsory to study medicine.

But this seems to be the only original source based on which the Dravidian Stockists have been peddling their claim. This claim made in KAP Vishwanathan’s book doesn’t provide any evidence to back the claim.

On the other hand, the Chapter on Instruction in the Report On The Administration Of Madras Presidency (1904-1905) notes that there were 184 students studying medicine at the time, including 22 Europeans, 30 Native Christians, 2 Muhammadans, 73 Brahmans, 56 non-Brahman Hindus, and one Parsi.

This report was earlier brought to light by noted author Ananthakrishnan Pakshirajan, which was shared by Sumanth Raman as well.

In a series of tweets, Sumanth questioned if whether the 22 Europeans, 30 native Christians, 2 Muslims, and a Parsi were required to know Sanskrit before joining medicine.

Many other social media users asked PTR a logical question: would the then-British government require native English speakers to know Sanskrit in order to study medicine in Madras Presidency?

Sumanth Raman also asked if the Justice Party’s GO, which stated that knowing Sanskrit is not compulsory, could be released now, and said that the book by KAP Vishwanathan, from which Dravidian stockists claim that knowing Sanskrit is compulsory, also lacks evidence.

He went on to say that if a lie is repeated enough times, it eventually becomes true and that he is willing to apologize if D Stockist provides any evidence that the 22 Europeans, 30 Native Christians, 2 Muslims, 56 non-Brahmins, and 73 Brahmin students were all proficient in Sanskrit before being admitted to the MBBS degree.

Whether Sanskrit was compulsory back in the day to study medicine is not yet clear.

What becomes clear is that higher education especially medical education wasn’t monopolized by Brahmins contrary to the claims made by Dravidian Stockists.

DMK Critic Political Commentator Kishore K Swamy Arrested

Kishore K Swamy, a prominent political commentator know for his anti-DMK stance was arrested on the wee hours of Monday (21 November 2022).

A Zee News report mentions that Kishore has been arrested for his posts critical of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin made in light of the monsoon preparations.

According to the report, the Cyber Crime unit of the Chennai Police had registered a case and sent summons to Kishore.

It said that he did not appear despite several notices sent to him on November 5, 7, 9 and 14. Kishore reportedly sought anticipatory bail from the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai fearing arrest.

When the plea came for hearing, Kishore’s side had stated that his Twitter posts were about his ‘friend’ and not anybody else. The public prosecutor had stated that Kishore is a “habitual offender” and has seven cases registered against him.

The judge dismissed Kishore’s anticipator bail plea stating that granting bail to a person who has been summoned but not presented himself would set a wrong precedent.

A few other sources say that he was arrested for his social media posts about the recent bomb blast at Coimbatore.

Two days ago on 19 November 2022, Kishore had alleged that attempts were being made by “journalist gang” led by The News Minute journalist Shabbir Ahmed to get him arrested.

This is the second time that Kishore K Swamy has been arrested since the DMK came to power.

Earlier, Kishore K Swamy was arrested on June 14, 2021, for allegedly ‘defaming’ DMK leaders MK Stalin, Karunanidhi and Annadurai. The arrest was made based on a complaint by a Kanchipuram DMK functionary. Kishore K Swamy in his tweet had just quoted parts of a writing by Tamil poet Bharathidasan who had written about Annadurai saying that Annadurai took his niece to a wealthy man’s house to earn money. Kishore K Swamy had also made several posts criticizing MK Stalin and his father M. Karunanidhi.

For this ‘heinous’ crime of criticizing DMK leaders, he was incarcerated and slapped with the Goondas Act languishing in prison for around 6 months.

However, the Madras High Court in December 2021 quashed the Goondas Act against Kishore following which he was released from prison.

Other DMK Critics Arrested By Stalin Government

Krishna Kumar Murugan, a political researcher who is known for tweeting data points countering DMK, was arrested on 21 September 2022 in the case of alleged ‘defamatory’ posters caricaturing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Karthik Gopinath, a prominent Tamil YouTuber who runs the Ilaya Bharatham YouTube channel, was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police in May 2022 over the issue of raising funds for a temple at Siruvachur that was desecrated by miscreants.

Kalyanaraman of BJP Tamil Nadu was arrested for allegedly derogating Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and his late father Karunanidhi. Kalyanaraman had in a tweet posted a picture of a page from a book which talks about V. Anaimuthu’s comments on EVR’S wife Maniammai in which Anaimuthu sheds light on the relationship shared by Maniammai and K. Veeramani, the current head of Dravidar Kazhagam. Kalyanaraman too was slapped with the Goondas Act.

Popular Youtuber Maridhas was arrested on December 9, 2021 for a tweet that came in the light of the death of late Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat. This arrest too was made based on a complaint by a DMK functionary.

BJP IT wing office-bearer Saravana Kumar from Dindigul was arrested for allegedly criticizing the DMK government.

Dakshinamurthy alias Seethaiyin Mainthan, a YouTuber and a Tamil nationalist ideologue was arrested on October 15, 2021 for releasing a documentary that exposed the lesser known and hidden facts about E.V. Ramasamy Naicker also known as ‘Periyar’ by his followers.

The Tamil Nadu Police had filed FIRs against the editors of Tamil magazine Vikatan, Maridhas and political commentator ‘Savukku’ Shankar for speaking about G Square, a real-estate firm with alleged ties to the DMK family.

“DMK Leaders Demanding 12% Commission On Govt Contracts”: DMK Worker Laments Infront Of DMK Minister

The video of a long-time DMK member accusing fellow DMK members in the government of demanding bribes for contract awards, in front of DMK Water Resource minister Duraimurugan, has gone viral on social media.

The Vellore Central District DMK General Members Meeting was held at Latheri, near Katpadi, in the presence of Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan.

Rajendran, former panchayat council president of KV Kuppam Union, PK Puram, said at the meeting: “I joined the DMK from the ADMK 40 years ago. In our town, the ADMK has more support than DMK.”

He went on, “I worked hard to build the party in my constituency. They (DMK leaders) say we should win 40 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections. But the leaders who say this are travelling in luxury cars, while we who work for them have no money for even petrol for our vehicles. But after winning, it’s difficult to see them; even if we go to Chennai, it’s difficult to see them.”

He further said,” Four days ago, I asked a senior DMK leader from Katbadi Western Union for a tender worth ₹8 lakhs. But he was asking 12% commission for ₹1 lakh.”

He furiously asked,” We work hard like dogs for your victory, but what we are going to get in return?”

On hearing this, other DMK members whistled and clapped, cheering the person who complained about other DMK leaders.

This video was shared widely by the opposition parties accusing DMK government of “corruption, commission and collection.”

Christian Evangelical NGO World Vision India’s FCRA License Suspended

In a major crackdown against problematic foreign-funded organizations, the FCRA license of Christian evangelical organization World Vision India has been suspended.

World Vision India which claims itself to be a humanitarian organization is a branch of World Vision International, which explicity states that it is a Christian evangelical organisation.

“World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God..” is how the World Vision introduces itself on its website.

World Vision India is one of the largest non-governmental organizations (NGO) in the country and is into different realms of the social sector.

Hitherto, the organization had a license to receive foreign funds under the Foregin Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). It receives funds from across the world including its parent organization.

According to the FCRA rules, an NGO seeking to receive foreign donations must utilise those funds only for the purpose for which they have been received and as stipulated in the Act.

However, the FCRA had violated the rules and its own objectives by utilizing foreign funds for religious activities.

According to NGO-watch Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF), World Vision India had received ₹28000 from New Zealand during FY 2015-16 as foreign fund for ‘Religious’ purpose which is in contradiction to their actual objective.

LRPF back then had written to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seeking cancellation of World Vision’s FCRA License.

The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act also prohibits the use of foreign funds for activities detrimental to national interest.

When the pandemic struck in 2019, World Vision India along with another controversial organization Oxfam had unleashed a smear campaign against Indian Public Health Care System while soliciting funds for the same.

In 2019, Middle East Forum, a US think tank had revealed how World Vision was involved in terror-financing. World Vision was funding the Sudan-based Islamic Relief Agency (ISRA), a U.S. designated charity linked to slain Islamic terrorist Osama Bin Laden. World Vision had subcontracted its work in the Blue Nile region of Sudan to ISRA which had reportedly given millions of dollars to Osama Bin Laden and raised funds for Hamas suicide bombings in 2003.

In view of the above facts, it has now come to light that the FCRA license of World Vision India has been suspended.

Kashi Tamil Sangamam Inaugurated By PM Modi

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ – a month-long programme being organised in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh today. The objective of the programme is to celebrate, reaffirm and rediscover the age-old links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi – two of the country’s most important and ancient seats of learning. More than 2500 delegates from Tamil Nadu will be visiting Kashi. During the programme, the Prime Minister also released a book ‘Tirukkural’ along with its translation into 13 languages. He also witnessed a cultural programme followed by aarti.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister expressed delight upon the gathering being held in the most ancient living city in the world. Speaking on the importance of Sangams in the country, be it the confluence of rivers, ideology, science or knowledge, the Prime Minister said that every confluence of culture and traditions is celebrated and revered in India. He remarked that in reality, it is a celebration of India’s might and characteristics, thus making the Kashi-Tamil Sangam unique.

Throwing light on the connection between Kashi and Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister said that on one hand, Kashi is the cultural capital of India whereas Tamil Nadu and Tamil culture is the centre of India’s antiquity and pride. Drawing an analogy to the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, the Prime Minister said the Kashi-Tamil Sangam is equally holy which engulfs endless opportunities and strength in itself. The Prime Minister congratulated the Ministry of Education and the Government of Uttar Pradesh for this momentous gathering and thanked central universities like IIT, Madras and BHU for extending their support to the programme. The Prime Minister especially thanked the students and scholars of Kashi and Tamil Nadu.

The Prime Minister underlined that Kashi and Tamil Nadu are timeless centres of our culture and civilisation. He informed that both Sanskrit and Tamil are one of the most ancient languages that existed. The Prime Minister exclaimed, “In Kashi, we have Baba Vishwanath, while in Tamil Nadu we have the blessings of Lord Rameshwaram. Both Kashi and Tamil Nadu are immersed in Shiva.”  Be it music, literature or art, the Prime Minister remarked that Kashi and Tamil Nadu have always been a source of art.

Throwing light on the rich culture and traditions of  India, the Prime Minister said that both these places are marked as the birthplace and workplace of India’s finest acharyas. He underlined that one can experience similar energies in Kashi and Tamil Nadu. He said, “Even today the relevance of Kashi Yatra comes up during the traditional Tamil marriage procession.” He underlined that unending love for Kashi from Tamil Nadu signifies the feeling of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat which was the way of life of our ancestors.

The Prime Minister underlined Tamil Nadu’s contribution to the development of Kashi and recalled that Tamil Nadu-born Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was the Vice Chancellor of BHU. He also mentioned the Vedic scholar Rajeshwar Shastri who lived in Kashi even though he had his roots in Tamil Nadu. He said that the people of Kashi also miss Pattaviram Shastri who lived on Hanuman Ghat in Kashi. The Prime Minister informed about the Kashi Kaam Koteshwar Panchayatan Mandir which is a Tamilian temple on the banks of Harishchandra Ghat, and the two-hundred-year-old Kumarswamy Matt and Markande Ashram on Kedar Ghat. He also stated that many people from Tamil Nadu have been living near the banks of Kedar Ghat and Hanuman Ghat, and have made immense contributions towards Kashi for several generations. The Prime Minister also mentioned the great poet and revolutionary, Shri Subramania Bharathi who hailed from Tamil Nadu but lived in Kashi for many years. He informed about BHU’s pride and privilege in establishing the chair dedicated to Subramania Bharati.

The Prime Minister underlined that the Kashi-Tamil Sangam is taking place during the Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal. He said, “In Amrit Kaal, our resolutions will be fulfilled by the unity of the whole country.” He stated that India is a nation which has lived a natural cultural unity for thousands of years. Throwing light on the tradition of remembering 12 Jyotirlingas after waking up in the morning, the Prime Minister said that we start our day by remembering the spiritual unity of the country. Shri Modi also lamented the lack of efforts to strengthen this tradition and heritage of thousands of years. He further added that Kashi-Tamil Sangamam will become a platform for this resolution today while making us realise our duties, and being a source of energy to strengthen national unity.

The Prime Minister said that it was through this attitude of breaking language and surpassing the intellectual distance that Swami Kumargurupar came to Kashi and made it his Karmbhoomi and got Kedareshwar Mandir constructed in Kashi. Later, his disciples got Kashi Vishwanath temple constructed in Thanjavur on the banks of river Kaveri. The Prime Minister reiterated the link between Tamil scholars and Kashi by mentioning personalities like Manonmaniyam Sundaranar who wrote a Tamil State song and the connection of his guru with Kashi. The Prime Minister also remembered the role of Ramayana and Mahabharata written by Raja ji in connecting the North and the South. “This is my experience that without understanding scholars from South India like Ramanujacharya, Shankaracharya, Raja Ji to Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, we simply can not understand Indian philosophy”, Shri Modi said.

Referring to ‘Panch Pran’, the Prime Minister said that a country with a rich heritage should be proud of its legacy. He said despite having one of the world’s oldest living languages, i.e. Tamil, we lack in honouring it fully. “This is the responsibility of 130 crore Indians to preserve the legacy of Tamil and enrich it. If we ignore Tamil we do a great disservice to the nation and if we keep Tamil confined in restrictions we will do great harm to it. We have to remember to remove linguistic differences and establish emotional unity”, the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister said that the Sangamam is a matter of experiencing more than the words and expressed the hope that people of Kashi will leave no stone unturned in providing memorable hospitality. The Prime Minister expressed the wish that such events are organised in Tamil Nadu and other Southern states and youngsters from other parts of the county visit and absorb the culture there. The gains of this sangamam need to be taken forward through research and this seed should become a giant tree, the Prime Minister concluded.

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt Anandiben Patel, Union Ministers Dr L Murugan, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, and Member of Parliament, Shri Ilaiyaraaja were those present on the occasion among others

Background

The promotion of the idea of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ has been one of the major focus areas of the government guided by the vision of the Prime Minister. In yet another initiative reflecting this vision, ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’, a month-long programme, is being organised in Kashi (Varanasi).

The objective of the programme is to celebrate, reaffirm and rediscover the age-old links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi – two of the country’s most important and ancient seats of learning. The programme aims to provide an opportunity for people from all walks of life including scholars, students, philosophers, traders, artisans, artists etc. from the two regions to come together, share their knowledge, culture and best practices and learn from each others’ experiences. More than 2500 delegates from Tamil Nadu will be visiting Kashi. They will participate in seminars, site visits etc to interact with local people of similar trade, profession and interest. A month-long exhibition of handlooms, handicrafts, ODOP products, books, documentaries, cuisine, art forms, history, tourist places etc of the two regions will also be put up in Kashi.

The endeavour is in sync with NEP 2020’s emphasis on integrating the wealth of Indian Knowledge Systems with modern systems of knowledge. IIT Madras and BHU are the two implementing agencies for the programme.

Minor Gang-Raped By Ajaz, Abbu, Salar and Feroz In Hyderabad Weeks Ago

In a shocker of an incident that has viturally gone unnoticed, a minor was gang-raped by four Muslim men from Hyderabad in June 2022.

The incident happened in Chandrayangutta police station area of Hyderabad Old City, a stronghold of AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi.

As per a report, the four accused – Ajaz, Abbu, Salar and Feroz – were presented before a local court and remanded in judicial custody at the time.

The incident came close on the heels of the Jubilee Hills gangrape involving sons of an AIMIM MLA and the Waqf Board head among others.

What makes this case even more shocking is that the aunt of one of the accused, Feroz, allegedly covered up the crime by washing the victim’s clothes.

The 14-year-old minor had gone to her grandmother’s house, who scolded her for venturing out late in the night. So the girl started walking back to her home, when some hooligans started passing lewd comments at her.

This is when two of the accused approached her offering to ‘help her reach home’. They took her to an eating joint for dinner, and later took her to a room in a secluded place close to Pahadi Shareef (a Sufi dargah) before raping her. The other two accused joined their associates and they too sexually assaulted the girl in turns.

After the assault, Feroz took the girl to his aunt’s house. “His aunt allegedly washed the victim’s clothes and thus tried to screen the evidence in the sexual assault case,” a police officer was quoted saying in a report. Later, the girl was dropped in Chandrayanagutta area.

Initially, the police registered a case of missing person after her parents approached them. Later, it was amended to book the accused for kidnap and gangrape. A case was also registered against Feroz’s aunt for tampering evidence in the case.

More rape cases from Pahadi Shareef and Hyderabad Old city area

On May 31 this year, cab driver Kaleem Ali and his friend Luqman gang-raped an 11-year-old girl at Muslim Colony in Kondurg. The minor, who lives with her grandmother in Moghalpura, had left home to visit her parents at Pahadi Shareef, when she was lured by the cab driver who raped her with his friend.

In another case of rape, a 16-year-old girl was raped in the limits of Kalapathar police station on May 31. The accused Md. Sufiyan (21) works as an event manager, and he had lured the victim to his home when she was returning home from her job at a textile shop near Charminar.

“People And CM Are Satisfied, Not Worried About Anyone’s Comment” DMK Minister Periyasamy Hits Back At DMK Fin Min PTR

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan while speaking at an event held on 17 November 2022 criticized the functioning of the cooperatives department, saying, “On the basis of principle and historically, we can say that co-operatives have been functioning good. But the functioning capacity, data, technology requires work to be done. Daily, in many places, there have been reports of frequent raids and about smuggling being on the rise in the Cooperative department. In today’s world, it is difficult to administer these cooperatives without end-to-end computerization. So, there are lot of possibilites for mistakes. At the same time, the aggregate value.. in gross..  I am not satisfied. I am telling this as a Finance Minister. There is more work to be done.”

This interview with Tamil Nadu Finance Minister did not go well with the DMK Cooperatives Department Minister, who reacted sharply to his ministerial colleague’s comments.

Minister for Cooperation I Periyasamy said on Friday (18 November 2022) that the people of Tamil Nadu were satisfied with the functioning of his department and that he didn’t care about comments from people who had no knowledge of ration shops, contradicting comments made by Minister for Finance PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan on Thursday that the Co-operative Department lacked transparency and that he was unhappy with how it was functioning.

In the presence of District Collector S Visakan, Ministers of Co-operation I Periyasamy and Food and Civil Supplies R Sakkarapani took part in the 69th All India Co-operative Week celebrations in the district and distributed welfare measures to the beneficiaries.

I Periyasamy told the press after the event, “Loans worth Rs 35,000 crore have been provided to farmers. We’re also attempting to make a record number of loans to self-help organizations.”

In response to a question about PTR’s remarks about the Co-operative Department, he stated, “I have been in politics for the last 50 years, and Minister Sakkarapani has been in politics for 30 years. He was elected MLA for the sixth time in a row. If PTR brings any specific irregularity to my attention, I will garland him and take action against the erring staff. Until then, I am not going to bother about comments from people who know nothing about ration shops.”

School Girl Drugged And Gang-Raped By 5 Men Repeatedly In Trichy Dist, Video Circulated In Social Media

A shocker of an incident has come to light in Tamil Nadu’s Trichy district where a girl studying Class 11 was given liquor and gang-raped by five men multiple times.

Ranganathan (33), from Antharapatti near Musiri in Trichy district, had lured a 16-year-old school girl from the same area into a relationship. He is said to have indulged in sexual acts when she was alone at her home.

He had also introduced her to his friends Manikandan (23) and Ganesan (28) from Sirugambur village.

Pretending to love her, he took her alone to the shrubs on the banks of the Cauvery River in April and made her drink soft drinks spiked with alcohol, rendering her unconscious.

Later, he called five of his friends from Sirugambur, including Manikandan and Ganesan. They all sexually assaulted the girl and recorded the act on their cell phones.

They threatened her of releasing the video if she tried to tell anyone about the sexual assault. They also raped her three times after the April incident.

Meanwhile the girl’s relatives had complained to her parents that she was roaming around with men. After noticing changes in her behavior, her parents decided to discontinue her studies and marry her to a person from Trichy in May.

When child rights activists and the District Social Welfare Officer learned of the school girl’s marriage, they filed a complaint with the Jeeyapuram police station, who rescued her and lodged her in a children’s home in Trichy.

An enraged Ranganathan meanwhile released the sexual videos in social media. The video of the school girl being gang-raped by five men was released while she was at the Trichy children’s home. Authorities at the home who came to know about the video enquired her. The girl admitted that she was gang-raped by the five men.

The parents were shocked to learn of the school girl’s video being circulated on the internet. The girl narrated the entire ordeal following which her parents filed a complaint at Musiri All Women Police Station.

Police investigated the complaint and found that the video was shared by one of the five assaulters in the video following a disagreement among themselves. A case has been registed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

All five culprits – Ranganthan, Manikandan, Ganesan, Dinesh and Saran – have been arrested by the police.
