Like walking on egg shells, actor and self-styled politician Kamal Haasan offered his two cents on the Sanatana Dharma storm that has taken over the country.
The chief of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) refrained from condemning DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for his hate speech against Hindu religion and said that the man is entitled to his views.
In a social media post, Kamal Haasan said “The hallmark of a true democracy is the ability of its citizens to disagree and engage in continued discussion. History has repeatedly taught us that asking the right questions has led to important answers and contributed to our development as a better society.“, adding that Udhayanidhi Stalin is entitled to his views on Sanatana and refrained from using the word Dharma along with it, going by the Dravidianist claims of there is no ‘Dharma’ in Sanatana.
“If you disagree with his viewpoint, it is important to engage in a discussion based on the merits of Sanatana instead of resorting to threats of violence or legal intimidation tactics, or distorting his words to evoke emotional responses for narrow political gains.“, Kamal Haasan said in light of the recent FIR registered against DMK Minister by the Uttar Pradesh Police. Karnataka Congress Minister too has been booked along with Udhayanidhi Stalin for his tacit support to the latter.
“Tamil Nadu has always been a safe space for healthy debates, and it will continue to remain so. It is crucial to critically evaluate our traditions, ensuring inclusivity, equality, and progress. Let’s embrace constructive discussions to foster a harmonious and inclusive society.“, Kamal said.
“It is noteworthy to mention that Kamal Haasan, whose box office fortunes had been on the downhill, experienced a significant turnaround with ‘Vikram’, a film produced by DMK scion Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies.
Kamal Haasan himself is known for his religious hatred remarks against Hindus and had even derogated Hindu goddesses.
While talking about women’s issues on a stage yesterday he said, “They say that women wearing less dress is the reason for the rape crimes. Gods too wear less dress. A few Gods don’t wear any dress. When you don’t get the urge on seeing ‘that’, how come you feel the urge while seeing my sisters. It is mutual consent when there is love but when they want to have that without love, then is the problem”, said Kamal Haasan.”
During his campaign trail for the 2021 Assembly Elections, Kamal Haasan refused the ‘poornakumbham’ honours offered by Hindu priests on behalf of a Murugan Temple in Kanchipuram.
While campaigning in a Muslim-dominated area of Aravakurichi during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kamal Haasan said that the first terrorist of independent India was a Hindu (hinting at Nathuram Godse).
Kamal Haasan during campaigning in Aravakurichi assembly constituency, Tamil Nadu, yesterday: "I am not saying this because many Muslims are here. I'm saying this in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue. First terrorist in independent India is a Hindu, his name is Nathuram Godse." pic.twitter.com/LSDaNfOVK0
