Wife Of Chandrababu Naidu Visits St. Paul’s Lutheran Church For Early Release Of Her Husband

Nara Bhuvaneswari, the wife of the embattled former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu, visited St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rajahmundry on September 27, 2023, accompanied by her daughter-in-law to offer special prayers for her husband’s release, as reported by the Hindu Post.

After the prayers, Bhuvaneswari visited her TDP supporters who were holding a relay hunger strike camp in the East Godavari district, fasting in solidarity with Chandrababu Naidu. Bhuvaneswari raised concerns about her husband’s prolonged detention without an investigation into the corruption charges. She emphasized that the authorities have failed to substantiate their allegations against the former Chief Minister and called for unity in supporting him.

Naidu, who is the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is currently in judicial custody at Rajamahendravaram Central Prison following an extension of his remand until 5 October 2023 in a multi-crore skill development scam case. According to Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, Naidu had allegedly misappropriated the establishment of clusters of centers of excellence (CoEs) in Andhra Pradesh, with an estimated project value of ₹3300 crores.

During Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure as CM of Andhra Pradesh, he faced accusations of favoring the Christian community, making various announcements and promises aimed at promoting Christian pilgrimages, conversions, and the development of Christian burial grounds.

In 2018-19, the TDP government had sanctioned Rs.38.36Cr for Construction/Repair of Churches. It sanctioned ₹58 lakh for construction and repair of toilets in Churches through a GO RT408 on 29.11.2018.

Chandrababu Naidu, who participated in a Christmas celebration organized by the State government had heaped praises on Christian missionaries saying “Christian missionaries served great for education and health. We saw Mother Teresa, how she served society.”

The Telugu Desam Party chief in 2018 said, “Our government has spent ₹250 crores for Christians in these four years. We will fight for giving the SC status to converted Christians and till then we will support you. I assure you to develop Guntur general hospital with six acres of additional land.”
