“We’ve 4 more years”: Udhayanidhi’s response when asked about ₹1000 for women

All political parties in Tamil Nadu, are busy campaigning as the Local Body Polls are coming up in less than 10 days. In a campaigning video, DMK Chepauk MLA and son of CM MK Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin is seen making fake promises to the voters, all over again.

In the video that is doing the rounds on social media, a commoner asks Udhayanidhi when the DMK would give the ₹1,000 that was promised to be given to women household heads. However, without hesitation or regret, Udhayanidhi smiles sheepishly and says, we will give it soon, 4 years of our governance is still left. This ₹1,000 poll promise, was one of the major ones, among other promises, that were not fulfilled by the DMK party.

Earlier, last August, when the DMK government announced the state’s budget, the Finance Minister P Thiaga Rajan said that this scheme was only for ‘poor’ women, and that the government has designed a system to identify those poor women, who require the honourarium. However, this was also proven false, as the DMK government has still not fulfilled the poll promise.

It is to be noted that before the elections in April last year, while campaigning in Trichy, MK Stalin said, ““I am not making this promise for the next five years, when DMK is all set to come to power. I am making this promise for the next 10 years.” Probably, the idea of the DMK party, is to make the same promise 4 years down the lane, when Tamil Nadu will again go for elections.
