Former West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress leader Ujjwal Biswas was allegedly assaulted and pelted with eggs after a large group of protesters stormed his residence in Krishnagar, Nadia district, on Tuesday (9 June 2026) amid allegations that government relief materials meant for public distribution had been stored at his home for several years, as reported in UNI.

The incident occurred after BJP workers and local residents gathered outside Biswas’ residence, alleging that tarpaulin sheets, clothing, sarees and other relief materials supplied under government welfare and disaster-relief schemes had been kept at the premises instead of being distributed to beneficiaries.
As tensions escalated, protesters breached security arrangements and entered the residence. According to eyewitnesses, members of the crowd confronted Biswas inside his office chamber, where heated arguments soon turned violent.
During the confrontation, eggs were reportedly thrown at the former minister. Protesters allegedly shoved him, raised slogans against him and vandalized portions of the residence and office premises. The situation quickly descended into chaos as supporters and opponents clashed inside the compound.
BJP leaders alleged that the relief materials had been stored since 2017 and accused the former minister of mismanaging government resources. They claimed that such materials should have been stored in official government warehouses rather than at a private residence.
Biswas rejected the allegations, maintaining that the materials had been received recently from government authorities. He stated that he had already informed the Block Development Officer about returning the stock to official custody and denied any wrongdoing.
The situation intensified after protesters reportedly discovered bundles of white sarees inside the premises. The discovery led to fresh allegations regarding the handling of welfare materials and further provoked the crowd.
Local sources said a woman who attempted to shield Biswas during the confrontation was allegedly manhandled. At least three other individuals who intervened to protect him were also reportedly assaulted during the violence.
Police personnel initially struggled to disperse the crowd and restore order as tensions continued to rise. Senior police officer Shilpi Paul later arrived at the scene along with central security forces. The former minister was subsequently escorted from the residence and taken to a police station for his safety.
The incident has triggered a political controversy in Nadia district, with the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party trading allegations over the handling of relief materials, administrative accountability and the breakdown of law and order.
