Angry residents of Ennore staged a road blockade on Kattivakkam Highway after a power outage that lasted for nearly two hours, highlighting what they described as persistent electricity supply issues in the area.
According to residents, the locality has been facing frequent and unpredictable power cuts for the past 10 to 15 days, with electricity reportedly going off several times a day at random intervals. The repeated disruptions triggered frustration among residents, who took to the streets demanding immediate action from the authorities.
Upon receiving information about the protest, Tiruvottiyur TVK MLA Senthilkumar rushed to the spot and held discussions with the agitating residents. The discussions turned heated as residents expressed their anger over the recurring outages and the alleged lack of response from electricity department officials.
Following the interaction, the MLA proceeded to the local electricity board office, where he met electricity department personnel and reviewed the situation. He also questioned officials, including the local line inspector, regarding the delay in addressing the complaints and took steps to facilitate the restoration of power supply to the affected area.
Power supply was subsequently restored, bringing the protest to an end. However, residents continued to demand a permanent solution to the recurring electricity disruptions that they said have been affecting daily life in the locality.
We are facing power failure for the 10th time in the last 15 days, and there is no one to listen to us or ready to fix this issue, complains the Chennai people to TVK MLA after hitting the streets.

Ever since the TVK government assumed office, residents in several parts of Chennai have been complaining that power cuts and night‑time outages have become far more frequent, turning electricity into one of the new regime’s first major pressure points. Neighbourhoods across the city, from Neelankarai to interior residential pockets, have reported long, unannounced cuts and voltage issues amid peak summer heat, with at least one protest breaking out near Chief Minister Vijay’s residence over prolonged supply interruptions. Chennai’s power demand has surged in May while supply and infrastructure have struggled to keep pace, warning that if the situation continues, managing outages could become a defining challenge for the TVK administration’s first years in power.
