A 25-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly sexually harassed by a youth with a Diploma in Pharmacy, who is also a member of the ruling TVK party, in Sethupattu village of Tiruvannamalai district. The accused, identified as Yogeswaran (20), was apprehended by the victim’s family and public, thrashed, and handed over to the police, as reported in Dinakaran.
According to police sources, the incident occurred early on the day before yesterday when the victim, wife of a car driver, had gone near her home to attend to nature’s call. Yogeswaran, a resident of the same area, reportedly spotted her and stood completely naked at the spot, attempting to rape her and subjecting her to sexual harassment.
Shocked and terrified, the pregnant woman raised an alarm and screamed for help. She managed to escape from the spot and immediately informed her husband about the ordeal. Enraged by the incident, the woman’s husband and relatives launched a chase and caught Yogeswaran on a motorcycle. The victim, along with her relatives and local residents, severely thrashed the accused before handing him over to the Sethupattu police.
Police registered a case based on the woman’s complaint, arrested Yogeswaran. During police inquiry, Yogeswaran reportedly confessed to the act. He was produced before a court and subsequently lodged in the Polur sub-jail.
