The Hindu’s Chennai Edition Relegates Chennai Floods News To Inside Pages, Netizens Call Out N. Ram’s Bias

Television broadcasts are vividly showcasing the harrowing scenes in the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, emphasizing the severe impact on affected areas. However, there appears to be a disparity in coverage when comparing this visual representation with print media, such as The Hindu. The concern arises as it seems that the print media has overlooked the plight of Chennai, which is currently grappling with the repercussions of the cyclone and subsequent floods.

The front page of The Hindu has news about the Parliament proceedings, what the CJI said, and even news about an honour killing in the state.

The centre of the front page has a photo of the “relief” efforts and a statement by the city’s Chief Secretary. However, there is nothing else at least on the front pages. It seems to have pushed the news to the inside pages, pretending to be an ostrich covering its eyes from the devastation. This was the case on 7 December 2023.

The Times of India newspaper was slightly better. It carried a news article on the present situation as the headline article.

If you thought, this was different over the past few days, you are wrong. Here is the front page of The Hindu newspaper from 6 December 2023.

There was no publication on 5 December 2023 due to the disastrous effect of the cyclone.

It is noteworthy to mention that the published of The Hindu is N. Ram, a vocal supporter of the DMK. His agenda driven partisan reporting in the garb of ‘journalism’ has been called out by multiple personalities.

In the past, The Hindu has been notoriously famous for publishing mischievous reports on the sengol, doctored images especially of the Rafale deal. It is also noteworthy that the sister concern of The Hindu, Frontline, published an “exclusive interview” of Moussa Abu Marzouk who heads Hamas’ international relations office based in Doha, Qatar.  They have also been called out for peddling fake news in the past.
