Tamil Nadu: Converted youth arrested for breaking Vinayagar idol in Vadamadurai

The Police have arrested a young man, who was caught breaking a Ganesha idol in a temple in Thennampatti Kathallakurumpatti village, of Vadamadurai, Dindigal district.

There is an ancient Vinayaga temple in the village of Thennampatti Kathallakurumpatti. On Jan 7th, Balakrishnan (24), who also belongs to the same village, broke 6 idols, including the Ganesha idol, 4 Naga idols, and the Vahana idol of Ganesha. He has destroyed the Circuit board of the Veerabadhra Swamy Ravaneshwara temple by flinching stones at it, and has allegedly also destroyed a number of drinking water pipes.

The locals of the village decided to handle the situation by themselves, without reporting it to the Police. However, after the Ganesha idol was broken, the locals of the village, youth and the Hindu Munnani; all three of them filed complaints at the Vadamadurai Police station.

On investigation, it was found that, Balakrishnan, who runs a Financial institution in Kerala, has loved a girl from a different religion in Kerala, and has therefore changed his name as Salim for her. It was also found that he was caught breaking drinking water pipes a few months prior to this incident, and was made to pay a fine to the Panchayat of the village. The Police arrested Balakrishnan alias Salim, after this inquiry.
