Joseph Vijay's Congress Higher Education Minister Dances To Double Entendre 'Vaadi Vaadi Kai Padaatha CD' Song Before Students, Asks 'What Is Wrong In That?'

TVK government’s Higher Education Minister P Viswanathan of the Congress party has come under criticism after a video of him dancing to a popular Tamil film song with double entendre lyrics at a Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay birthday celebration event went viral on social media.

The controversy erupted after footage surfaced showing the minister dancing before students and youth participants to the song “Vaadi Vaadi Vaadi Kai Padaatha CD”, a song that has long been criticised by some for its suggestive and double-meaning lyrics.

The event was reportedly organised as part of celebrations marking Chief Minister Vijay’s birthday. Videos of the minister enthusiastically joining the dance quickly spread online, drawing criticism from political opponents and social media users who questioned whether a serving Higher Education Minister should be participating in such performances before students.

It is noteworthy that the issue was not merely the act of dancing itself, but the choice of song and the message it conveyed, particularly given the minister’s responsibility for higher education and student welfare.

The criticism also comes amid broader debates over the nature of birthday celebrations being organised by TVK functionaries and ministers across the state ahead of Vijay’s birthday.

Responding to questions from reporters about the viral video, Chezhiaan defended his actions and rejected suggestions that he had done anything inappropriate.

“Our Chief Minister’s birthday was being celebrated. Students, friends and others had gathered there and were celebrating happily. Is that a mistake? It was the Chief Minister’s birthday. When youngsters, students and young women are all happy and ask me to join them, what is wrong in that?” he said.

The minister further stated, “If I show respect to youngsters, what is wrong with that? There is nothing wrong in it.”

Chezhiaan also dismissed criticism surrounding the event’s organisation.

“It was organised by a woman functionary. The media may write whatever they want, but that is not the case. It was the Chief Minister’s birthday and people were happy,” he said.
