Illegal granite quarrying in temple land in Hosur; complaint lodged

An Anjaneyar temple is located in Nilgiris, near Uthanapalli, Hosur, in Krishnagiri district. The temple owns 2 acres of State land in Nagamangalam. Recently, a complaint has been lodged at the Uthanapalli police station by Narasihamurthy, a HR&CE inspector, that granite stones are illegally being quarried from those lands.

The complainant has named Shanmugham, a resident of Bengaluru, in the complaint. Shanmugham runs a private granite company. For the past 17 years, he has been illegally quarrying granite stones from the temple’s land. Due to the complaint lodged by Narasimhamurthy, many private players have been caught red-handed.

The government is said to have lost hundreds of crores of rupees in revenue. There are several quarries in the in the vicinity of Hosur, that are owned by the HR&CE department. If the government uses it properly, it can earn a huge revenue from it. The public have said that the revenue can be used for temple renovation and for providing food as charity for poor people.
