Days after the Madras High Court made stinging observations about the appointment of IPS officer A. Arun as DVAC Director, DMK propagandist and alleged ‘environmental activist’ G. Sundarrajan drew criticism by targeting Justice GR Swaminathan personally in a social media post.
The controversy stems from remarks made by a division bench comprising Justices GR Swaminathan and V. Lakshminarayanan, who noted that the post of DVAC Director should be occupied by officers of exceptional integrity and reputation. Referring to former DVAC chiefs C.V. Narasimhan and C.L. Ramakrishnan, the judges observed that even a whiff of allegation had never been made against them during their careers and emphasized that a position tasked with combating corruption must be headed by professionals of sterling reputation.

These comments came after the court bailiff was made to wait for hours before receiving the summons in a habeas corpus petition.
Sharing the judges’ observations on social media, Sundarrajan of Poovulagin Nanbargal, a Dravidian Stock and self-proclaimed activist who is also known for being a DMK propagandist, responded with remarks directed at Justice GR Swaminathan. He wrote that the judge should remember that he occupies a chair once held by eminent legal luminaries, including Sir Thomas Andrew Lumisden Strange, whom he praised for judicial interventions against slavery. Sundarrajan then took a dig at Justice Swaminathan, referring to the judge’s observations in the Thirupparankundram Deepathoon Karthigai Deepam lighting case and remarking that, unlike those legal luminaries, Justice Swaminathan wanted a survey stone to become a “deepathoon” (lamp pillar).

The comments have drawn criticism from several quarters, with detractors accusing Sundarrajan of personally targeting a sitting High Court judge rather than engaging with the substance of the court’s observations. The remarks crossed the line from criticism of a judgment into commentary directed at the judge himself.
Sundarrajan, active during the Dravidian Model regime by spreading fake news, seems to have become irrelevant these days as the DMK is out of power and seems to be targeting people to spew venom on social media.
