Conflict Of Interest? AIADMK MP Inbadurai Questions TVK Minister Holding Sports Ministry And BFI Presidency Simultaneously

AIADMK Advocates Wing Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP IS Inbadurai has questioned Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Aadhav Arjuna continuing to serve as president of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI), alleging that the dual roles raise concerns over a potential conflict of interest, as reported in DT Next.

Aadhav Arjuna had been serving as president of the Basketball Federation of India even before joining TVK. Following the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, in which TVK secured a majority and formed the government, he was inducted into the cabinet headed by Chief Minister Vijay.

Aadhav Arjuna currently holds charge of the Public Works Department (Buildings), Highways and Minor Ports, as well as the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department. Inbadurai alleged that despite becoming the state’s Sports Minister, Aadhav Arjuna continues to remain president of the Basketball Federation of India, a position which, according to him, is still reflected on the federation’s official website.

In a post on his X handle, Inbadurai questioned whether the same individual could simultaneously function as both regulator and administrator in the sports sector. He argued that the arrangement could compromise the perception of impartiality in sports governance and undermine public confidence in the administration of sporting bodies.

According to Inbadurai, good governance requires not only the absence of actual bias but also the absence of any appearance of bias. He contended that continuing in both positions at the same time creates concerns regarding neutrality and fairness in sports administration.

The AIADMK MP’s criticism comes days after another social media post in which he targeted Aadhav Arjuna’s political conduct and public statements. In that post, Inbadurai remarked that Aadhav Arjuna’s actions and comments about various political parties, including the AIADMK, gave the impression that he was functioning as though he were the Chief Minister. He further quipped that the only party Aadhav Arjuna had not yet joined was the “Cockroach Janta Party”, as reported in Hindu Tamil.
