Drug peddlers use Islamic religious leaders to supply narcotics smuggled from Bangladesh

The Assam Police have now gone on an overdrive to stop the drug menace in the state with the arrest of a Muslim Jonab and Hafiz who were running a drug racket in the Bongaigaon district police in lower Assam.

On a confirmed intel, Bongaigaon police conducted raids in different places of the town and received information that the drug peddler Hafiz Abdullah Ali was in the Kisan Bazar area to deliver a small consignment to a customer where he was apprehended and the police team recovered 12 grams of heroin in a soapbox from his possession. 

Assam Police caught one Jonab Altaf Ali is running a drug racket in the district, engaging Muslim religious leaders in peddling. These peddlers in order to avoid any suspicion only carried and delivered small amounts of drugs to cheat the police.

Previously the police don’t doubt the religious leaders who have many followers, so the drug peddlers found it would be easy for them to run the drug peddling with their help. 

Also, in another successful operation, the Bongaigaon police searched the houses of Rafiul Hussain and Manjil Hussain of Kabaitary village of Jogighopa area and recovered 876 banned capsules and tablets from their possession. This gang is involved in the peddling of band capsules in the state, smuggling these contrabands to Bangladesh.

In the Cachar district of Barak Valley on Sunday, SDPO Lakhipur and OC Jirighat apprehended a woman Yasmin Hussain with 10 soapboxes containing 127gms Heroin and 20000 YABA tablets at Chapor Moina under Lakhipur police station.
