DMK government fails to fulfill promise of Pongal gift mentioned in Election Manifesto

Women in Tamil Nadu are largely angered and disappointed with the state government, now that the government is not giving ₹5000 promised for Pongal and ₹ 1000 per month for women heads of families, as promised in their Election Manifesto.

During the election season, DMK made a lot of promises with or without thinking of actually keeping those promises. One such promise made by the then opposition leader and now Chief Minister M K Stalin was, to provide ₹ 1000 to women heads of families every month. However, it has been more than 200 days since the party formed the government, and there has not been one word about fulfilling this promise.

Similarly, when he was opposition leader, M K Stalin promised to give ₹5000 as Pongal gift. Today, the CM has given up, not being able to even give ₹2500 given by former Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palanisamy.

Women, who had high hopes that somehow the CM would fulfill his promise and give them their Pongal gift, faced disappointment with DMK’s announcement yesterday. Yesterday, the DMK government sent a circular regarding the Pongal gift to the registrars of Cooperative societies. It mentioned, ” Set up a control room and appoint a liaison officer to monitor the distribution of Pongal gift packs to Rice family cardholders through fair price shops.” The CM, who said that ₹5000 should be given as Pongal gift, when he was Opposition leader, has entirely removed the cash gift from the circular this time.
