DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who has publicly described Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as his “brother,” has now accused the Congress party of “stabbing the DMK in the back.”
Stalin’s remarks were made in the context of the Puducherry Assembly election, where he alleged that Congress had betrayed its alliance partner by fielding candidates against the DMK in constituencies where the two parties were allies.
According to Stalin, Congress fielded candidates against the DMK in five constituencies despite being part of the alliance. He claimed that the DMK nevertheless managed to overcome what he described as the party’s betrayal, winning two of those five seats while Congress suffered a major defeat.
But Stalin’s attack did not stop there.
Taking aim at Congress ahead of the Thattanchavady by-election, Stalin declared that the party should not even be able to recover its deposit.
And then came the most striking line:
“As far as Puducherry is concerned, the Congress party is a closed chapter.”
The comments are particularly noteworthy given the close political relationship that Stalin has projected with Rahul Gandhi.
Stalin has repeatedly referred to Rahul Gandhi in familial terms, most notably calling him his “brother.” The two leaders have appeared together at several opposition events and have positioned the DMK-Congress alliance as an important component of the broader INDIA bloc.
Yet Stalin’s latest comments paint a very different picture of the Congress party—as an ally that cannot be trusted when electoral interests are at stake.
