Case Filed Against Hindu Munnani Leaders For Protesting Over Illegal Christian Prayer Hall In Thiruvattar

Hindu Munnani Protests Over Illegal Prayer Hall, Police Case Filed Against Four Leaders Under 13 Sections

Days after Hindu Munnani organised a large protest demanding the removal of an alleged unauthorised Christian prayer hall near Mathur Thottipalam in Thiruvattar, the Tamil Nadu Police have registered a case under 13 sections against four leaders of the organisation, including its State President.

The protest was held on 12 July 2026 at Thiruvattar, where hundreds of Hindu Munnani workers gathered, alleging that the prayer hall had been constructed without permission and was functioning despite a court order directing its removal. The organisation claimed that the Madurai High Court had instructed the district administration to demolish the structure but alleged that authorities had failed to implement the order.

The demonstration, led by Hindu Munnani State President Kadeswara Subramaniam, drew a large crowd, with the organisation claiming that thousands participated. More than 500 police personnel, led by the Thuckalay Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were deployed to maintain law and order during the protest.

Hindu Munnani accused the district administration and police of inaction and demanded the immediate removal of the structure. The organisation also criticised what it described as official support for missionary activities and sought enforcement of the court’s directions.

Following the protest, Thiruvattar Police registered a case under 13 sections against four Hindu Munnani leaders. Those booked include State President Kadeswara Subramaniam, State Secretaries Nathan and Maridurai, and another office-bearer.

According to police, the charges include obstructing public servants from discharging their duties and making statements likely to promote religious disharmony, among other offences. The case has been registered by Thiruvattar Inspector (in-charge) Uma.
