“Sanatana Dharma Is Like Leprosy And HIV AIDS For Us”: DMK MP A. Raja Says

Even as the dust is yet to settle on DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin likening Sanatana Dharma to Dengue, Malaria, and Corona and calling for its eradication, DMK MP A. Raja has likened Sanatana Dharma to HIV AIDS.

The DMK Lok Sabha MP who is also the Deputy General Secretary of the party said that Udhayanidhi had only compared Sanatana Dharma to diseases like malaria and dengue, and went on to say that Sanatan Dharma should be compared to HIV and social stigmas.

“I am oddly surprised that Udhayanidhi Stalin had only spoken about it only softly saying (Sanatana Dharma) has to be eradicated like malaria and dengue. Malaria and dengue doesn’t have social stigma. The society won’t look at them disgustingly. If we have to call it something disgusting, there was leprosy, there is HIV today. For us, just like leprosy and HIV, we’ve to see it (Sanathana Dharma) as a social stima.“, he said at a protest meeting organized by the rabid anti-Hindu outfit Dravidar Kazhagam against the Centre’s Viswakarma Scheme.

It is noteworthy to mention that Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K. Alagiri too participated in this where DMK MP A Raja made the speech. Both the DMK and Congress are part of the I.N.D.I. Alliance. Other members of the I.N.D.I Alliance who participated in the event include DMK MLA Ezhilan Naganathan, CPI-M State Secretary K. Balakrishnan, CPI State Secretary Muttharasan, VCK MP Thol. Thirumavalavan, MDMK Orgainzational Secretary Vandhiyathevan, Muslim outfit Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) ‘Pudhu Madam’ Halim, and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State Secretary KM Nijamudeen.

He further said, “The Prime Minister is asking us to follow Sanatana Dharma. If he had followed it, he should not have gone to so many foreign countries. A good Hindu should not cross the ocean and go abroad. However, your (Modi) only job is to roam around different places. How dishonest is it for a person who goes around the world defying Sanatana Dharma to say ‘save Sanatana Dharma’?”

He added, “Yesterday I challenged the Prime Minister and Amit Shah to debate with me on Sanatana Dharma. I am saying this with the permission of my leader. Gather people in Delhi and make all your Shankaracharyas sit on the dais. Bring all your weapons like bow, arrow, knife, and quiver. I will come with only Periyar and Ambedkar books. Conquer me if you can. I am an ordinary Panchama Shudra in your view.”

A Raja went on to say, “Udhayanidhi Stalin’s speech on Sanatana Dharma was soft. If you ask me to speak on it, I will speak more harshly. Bring anyone from your side and arrange a debate in Delhi. Myself (A Raja) will come there to debate.”

He said, “I have said that Sanadana Dharma is different from the Hindu religion. They have translated that speech and spread it in 12 languages saying that A.Raja has divided the Hindus. Today, the entire country is discussing it. The spark that has started here today is the starting point for creating a completely egalitarian secular country in the next ten years.”

This is not the first time that DMK MP A Raja has spewed venom about the Hindu religion.

Earlier, A Raja stated that all Shudras are children of prostitutes and they will remain so until they remain in Hinduism.

The DMK MP had made derogatory remarks about the mythological story of Bhooma Devi (Earth Goddess) and Varaha avatar of Lord Vishnu while hailing Christianity as a religion that encourages scientific temper.

“There is a reason to wish Christians and Muslims on their festivals. What will you wish for Deepavali? Can the earth be rolled like a carpet? Can someone be born as a pig? Can a pig and Bhuma devi have sex and give birth to an Asura? Since these are all against science and doesn’t align to rational thoughts, I don’t wish for Hindu festivals.”, he said.

Jeyamohan Is Wrong, Tamil Tradition Was Never Opposed To Vedic Sanatan Traditions

Tamil writer Jeyamohan who had co-written the screenplay and the dialogues for the Ponniyin Selvan duology, has come out in support of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s son and DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, who had equated Sanatana Dharma (aka Hinduism) to mosquitoes and diseases and called for its eradication.

Speaking at the “Eradicate Sanatan Conclave”, DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said “The title of this conference has been excellently coined. You’ve named it as ‘Abolish Sanatanam Conference’ and not ‘Oppose Sanatanam Conference’, so my best wishes to that.”

“Mosquitoes, dengue, flu, malaria, corona – we should not oppose these things. They’ve to be eradicated completely. Same is the case with Santanam (Hinduism). Our first work should be to abolish/eradicate Sanatanam instead of opposing it. So, my appreciations to you all for giving an apt title to the meeting.“, DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said.

It is shocking that a writer of calibre and intellect like Jeyamohan would approve of derogating and dehumanizing the native culture of this land and its followers.

“I agree with what Udayanidhi Stalin said because Sanatana Dharma in the South is associated with the Vedic tradition, which has for many centuries been opposed by Tamil Shaivites as well as others, including nastika, Jain and Buddhist traditions that dominated the south for centuries until the Bhakti movement happened“, Jeyamohan was quoted saying in a blog by Ullek NP.

This attempt to divide multiple schools of thought within Hindu Maha Samudhram is nothing new. Our saints, poets and siddhars have left clear literary sources to reaffirm their faith in Vedas, rituals and even call Shiva as an ideal Andhanan (Brạhmin) for winning over his senses.

Let’s start with Sangam Literature.

Purananooru song 15 sung about Pandyan king “Palyaagasaalai Mudhukudmi Peruvazhudi”.

The poet asks: “Which one is greater? The number of yupa stambhas planted to commemorate completion of Vedic sacrifices or the count of enemies you defeated?”

Interestingly, the esteemed Sanskrit poet Kalidasa in his Raguvamsa, (written around first and second century BCE) introduces the Pandya King as the one who is always seen choked with smoke from the sacrificial fires (Avabruda Snanam).

Coins with his name and horse has been found which implies that he conducted the Ashvamedha Yajna.

Again in the same Purananuru song 15, focus on the words – “Narpanuval Naal Vedathu” – meaning – “the flawless four Vedas”.

There is a thurai itself in Purananooru called “Paarpạna Vaagai” which has a song 166 which praises the king as one who doesn’t swerve from the path of Shiva and 4 Vedas with 6 Vedangas.

Kaaraikaal Ammaiyaar, the great Shaivite woman sage in her work Thiru Rettai Manimaalai, poem 8, calls Shiva as the one who remains as Vedas, the Veda’s meaning, and its originator. Song 20 of her Arpudha Thiruvandhadhi reflects deep concepts found in Upanishads (Vedanta).

Pause here for a moment to reflect. Would Kaaraikaal Ammayaar – a Nayanmar venerated by Shaivites – with her own temples call Shiva as not just the Vedas – but its meaning and its originator? Would Jeyamohan have the gall to say that Kaaraikal Ammaiyar – a Nayanmaar was anti-Vedic?

Lets take Thirumoolar, of Shaiva Siddhanta tradition and author of Thirumandhiram. He states that Shiva originated the Vedas and also taught it. The secret of Vedas is the path prescribed for Yogis (3.626,748) God belongs to Vedic ritual’s agni (1565) But Shaivism is anti Vedic?

As we saw with Purananooru, even Thirumoolar explicitly mentions the number of Vedas as 4, and the number of Vedangas (parts of Veda) as 6 This shows the prevalence of Vedic tradition in the Tamil speaking land – with a native word for Vedas as “Marai” a pure Tamil word.

As far as Jeyamohan’s comments on Bhakti literature being anti-Vedic, they are ignorant at best and malicious at worst. Sambandhar’s lines would suffice to debunk this ignorant claim: “The truth of the four Vedas is my Lord’s name – Nama Shivaya” (3.049)

Kirubandha Vaariyar says that Valluvar was a Shaivate based off few Kurals (8 Gunas for Lord & comparison with Andhanan). In that book, Vaariyar Swamin – a Shaivite has listed how all Shaivite saints have hailed Shiva to be the ideal Andhanan (Brahmin) who’s won over all senses.

The differences stated by Jeyamohan based off Narayana Guru’s opinions was a single person’s interpretation only. Would Dravidianists accept Cho’s interpretation of Dravidam? Why should an individual’s opinion be stated as if it is an entire Sampradaya’s stand?

Jeyamohan in 2015 had written “I’ll not hesitate to leave Hinďu rèligion if I’m còmpelled to dròp Chriṣt because the Hiñduism I believe in is an ocean that’s capable of accomodating all streams of all spiritual wisdom“.

The same Jeyamohan in 2023 writes that he agrees with what Udhàyanidhi said because many Hindu traditions have always fought the Sànatana Vèdic tradition.

Going by the intellectual Jeyamohan’s own logic, Hiñduism is so magnanimous to give space for Chriṣt, but not for Sànatana Vèdic tradition? Sanatàna Dhàrma is Hinduism, it is indeed unfortunate that JeMo chooses to distinguish the two by his own convenient definitions. Hinduism, that is Sanatàna Dharma.

In an attempt to appease politicians or be provocative, this artificial chasm between “Vedic traditions” and “Tamil traditions” has been manufactured. Our Bhakti movements, Shaivite Nayanmars, Vaishnaivite Aazhvaars all are different schools of thought of the same Hindu Maha Samudhram.

Such divisive tactics won’t sell in the land of Vedas.

Rig Veda says “There is no high/low difference amongst you. You are all brothers”

Yajur Veda says: “Cooperate and protect and help one another” Atharva Veda says: “Unite towards a goal and speak only useful words”

“Needs Proper Response”: PM Modi Asks Ministers To Respond Firmly To Udhayanidhi Stalin’s “Eradicate Sanatana Dharma” Remark

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his initial response to the Sanatana Dharma controversy, has emphasized the need for a suitable reply to the statements made by Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. This response from the Prime Minister came a day after Udhayanidhi Stalin cited the omission of an invitation to President Droupadi Murmu by the Central government for the new parliament’s inauguration as an example of discrimination by practitioners of Sanatana Dharma.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is the son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, has firmly refused to apologize for his comment characterizing Sanatana Dharma as a disease that should be eliminated. He has reiterated his readiness to face any legal consequences for his statements, and there are reports of efforts to seek the Tamil Nadu Governor’s approval to take action against him.

This statement triggered a strong backlash on social media and led the BJP to assert that it was tantamount to “a call for genocide,” a claim that the DMK leader has denied.

An FIR has been registered against Udhayanidhi Stalin at the Civil Lines Police Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur on Tuesday (6 September 2023).

Furthermore, this comment has placed some allies of the new Opposition Bloc INDIA in a sensitive position ahead of several state elections later this year and the upcoming general election. Karnataka Congress Minister Priyank Kharge and Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, have expressed their support for DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, as has Communist Party of India’s D Raja.

Will India Become Bharat?

Narendra Modi’s BJP has kept everyone guessing again by calling a special session in parliament from September 18th to September 22nd, 2023. Every channel is debating whether he is going to bring the name ‘Bharat’ as the official name of the country that has commonly been called ‘India’ as named by the British once. Some say that this will not be a change at all, as ‘Bharat’ was always prevalent along with the name ‘India,’ although ‘India’ was used more commonly in official communications and in day-to-day usage, whereas ‘Bharat’ was used from a regional communication standpoint. Here is how I see the impact of this.

The opposition parties who got together and, after a lot of deliberation, came up with the supposedly smart name for ‘I.N.D.I.A’ for their alliance against Modi will now be rattled, as Modi might outsmart their plan of making the 2024 elections ‘India vs. Modi.’ If Modi brings in a resolution in the special parliament session, holding the Sengol, that ‘India’ from today should be referred to as ‘Bharat’ for all official purposes, then he will set a new narrative that the name ‘India’ has a colonial flavor to it, was given by foreign forces to us, is not mentioned in any of our scriptures, and there is nothing in that name that represents our age-old civilization. The I.N.D.I alliance will find themselves on the wrong side automatically. What will they then claim to represent? It will become the fight between parties that represent the colonial elitist mindset, proudly calling their alliance ‘India,’ and the NDA that actually represents ‘Bharat,’ that every child born in this great land of ‘Bharatavarsha’ identifies themselves with. All the creative effort of whoever came up with this ‘brilliant’ alliance name, some say it was Rahul Gandhi, and some claim it was Mamata Banerjee, will immediately go down the drain, and this alliance will be left blinking on how to sustain their narrative. This will be a check and mate move by the master of masterstrokes, Narendra Damodardas Modi.

The opposition side claims that Modi is rattled by their alliance and the unity that’s being demonstrated in all the meetings that they have had. It’s not sure who is rattled – the side that had to get together even though they have a lot of issues and differences between them to oust one party and one man in the center or the side that is going strong with a leader who still enjoys the support of the majority of the people of ‘Bharat,’ who still want him to be the Prime Minister of ‘Bharat,’ based on all the survey results so far. The other salvo at Modi by the opposition parties is that he is doing politics by trying to change the name of the country for official purposes and is calling for a special session in Parliament without giving details of the agenda, etc. Why shouldn’t he do politics when every other party in the ‘dot-dot’ alliance does politics at the drop of the hat, be it any issue, however serious it may be, like the Manipur issue, and always see red when even any good step is taken like the reduction in cylinder price, etc. It is the opposition parties who get rattled with any achievement of ‘Bharat,’ like even the Chandrayaan 3 success, and are quick to issue statements that it’s ISRO and not Modi, fearing Modi will get the credit and the votes, which he is going to get anyway, as the mood of the nation shows.

The idea about giving predominance to the name ‘Bharat’ will make several parties in the ‘dot-dot’ alliance, like some in Tamil Nadu who have always taken an anti-Hindu, anti-Sanskrit stand, sit up and oppose the name ‘Bharat,’ claiming it to have a Sanskrit origin, Hindutva shade, etc., however baseless they may sound. The name ‘Bharat’ would definitely help the country and the ‘Bharatiyas’ to remove the colonial mindset that has been plaguing us for years now and will inspire the youth to take pride in our rich culture, our great ancient civilization, and the great lineage that they belong to. The name of a country really plays a role in shaping the mindset of a nation, and if the name personifies its civilizational and cultural ethos, nothing like it. Let’s wait and watch whether Modi creates history again!

NIA Arrests Fugitive ISIS Thrissur Module Chief In Chennai, Thwarts Escape Bid

In a significant breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended the fugitive chief of the ISIS Thrissur module, Siyed Nabeel Ahammed, in Chennai today (September 6), thwarting his attempts to flee the country. Syed Nabeel Ahammed, who had been on the run for several weeks, was captured by the NIA’s Fugitive Tracking Team, which had been diligently tracking his movements.

Syed Nabeel Ahammed, “Ameer(leader)” of the Thrissur-based ISIS Module, was discovered in possession of incriminating documents and electronic equipment at the time of his arrest. His capture marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the activities of the Thrissur-based ISIS cell.

The NIA had been closely monitoring Siyed Nabeel’s movements, who had been hiding in various locations across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in recent weeks. He had reportedly been planning to escape the country using falsified and fraudulent passports, with Nepal as a transit point.

This is the third arrest made in connection with the investigation into the Thrissur-based ISIS module since July. In a prior operation, the NIA apprehended one Ashif alias Mathilakath Kodayil Ashraf in July from his hideout near Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu. The NIA registered the case on July 11 based on credible information, invoking various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The investigation revealed that the Thrissur-based ISIS module had been plotting acts of terror in Kerala, including raising funds for their nefarious activities through a series of illegal activities, including dacoities within the state. The group’s intention to carry out terror acts had raised serious concerns among law enforcement agencies.

The NIA issued a statement highlighting the growing threat posed by the ISIS in India. “ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is a transnational militant Islamist terrorist group that is also known as Islamic State (IS) and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, as well as by its Arabic acronym Da’ish or Daesh. The organization has intensified its activities in India by positioning modules in various States and actively recruiting motivated youth who subscribe to its jihadist philosophy,” the NIA spokesperson said.

Shashi Tharoor Helps Physically Challenged Woman Who Cleared UPSC To Get Preferred Service

In May 2023, Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram posted a congratulatory message on social media platform X, about two physically challenged students who cleared the civil services exams. He wrote, “Congratulations to two physically challenged students, Kajal Raju from Kasargode (L, in sari) & Sherin Shahana of Wayanad (R, in wheelchair), both part of HyderAli Shihab Thangal Academy, Perinthalmanna, under the KREA project of Najib Kantapuram MLA, who made it to the civil services through the UPSC exams!”

In July 2023, however, he said that Sherin Shahana had not been allocated any specific service because of limited quotas for people in her situation. He said, “Met with Sherin Shahana, the disabled Kerala woman from Wayanad who had made national news when she cracked the UPSC exams. She has been devastated not to be allocated a specific service because of limited quotas for people in her situation in the various services. I have taken up the matter with Dr Jitendra Singh who has promised to be helpful.”

Sherin Shahana, a 27-year-old from Wayanad who was a victim of domestic abuse and a paralysed body had been confined to a wheelchair from the age of 21 after a fall from the roof terrace. She cracked the civil services exams this year and secured the 913th rank. However, she was not allotted a service allegedly due to limited quotas for the physically challenged.

When the matter was taken up with Shashi Tharoor, he reached out to Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister in-charge of Department of Personnel & Traning. In just a matter of a month, Shashi Tharoor revealed that Sherin Shahana was allotted the Indian Railway Management Service cadre. In a rare display of political decency and respect, he congratulated Dr Jitendra Singh for his magnanimity. He wrote on X, “Delighted to report that after my interventions and discussions with PMOIndia minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Sherin Shahana has been allotted the Indian Railway Management Service cadre. It’s a victory for compassion and for the rights of the differently-abled. I congratulate my friend the Minister for the magnanimity and sagaciousness with which he handled this complicated problem and found a humane resolution. #GoodNews”

On this issue, netizens tweeted that on the ground, Shashi Tharoor is a very approachable MP and listens to his constituents with a keen ear. 

The Lone Sane Voice In Congress Party

While Congress MP and former party chief Rahul Gandhi makes it a point always to badmouth India whenever he goes abroad, Shashi Tharoor is that one sane voice in the entire party that has always spoken in support of the country.

He has spoken against the British on their very soil every single lambasting the colonial rule. He has voiced his objections to the museums housing Indian artifacts and refers to them as “stolen” every single time he speaks.

He has also pointed out the fact that British children do not study their true history.

“I Support Udhayanidhi’s Words On Eradicating Sanatana Dharma”, Pa Ranjith Toes Arivalayam Line

With backlash coming from all corners of the country for the comments made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, voices from their supporters are also heard.

This time it is Kollywood film director Pa Ranjith. He took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to post, “Minister Udhyanithi’s statement calling for abolishment of Santana Dharma is the core principle of anti-caste movement for centuries. The roots of inhumane practices in the name of caste and gender lies in the Sanatana Dharma. Revolutionary leader Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, anti-caste reformers such as Iyotheedass Panditar, Thantai Periyar, Mahatma Phule, Sant Ravidas have all advocate the same in their anti-caste ideology. The malignant attitude of distorting the minister’s statement and misappropriating it as a call for genocide is unacceptable. The growing hate and hunt for the minister’s is very disturbing. I stand in support of Udhaynithi’s words calling for eradication of Sanatana Dharma to establish a society with social justice and equality. My solidarity to minister Udhaynithi Stalin!”

It is no surprise that someone like Pa Ranjith has made these comments supporting the eradication of Sanatana Dharma which is practiced and professed by more than 100 crore people in the country.

Pa Ranjith, who is known for incorporating anti-Hindu themes in his movies, had himself targeted Hinduism multiple times and also cast aspersions on one of Tamil Nadu’s prominent historical figures, Raja Raja Chola.

Speaking at a rally in 2019, Pa Ranjit said took a dig at Hindus saying “If you (Hindus) worship cows as God, I am the one who eats God.”

He also said that government should grab the lands belonging to Hindu mutts and give it to Dalits.

Additionally, Pa Ranjith proceeds to criticize one of the most illustrious rulers of the Chola dynasty, Raja Raja Chola. He described Raja Raja Chola’s reign as a period of darkness in history and promoted an inaccurate narrative by suggesting that caste-based oppression originated during Raja Raja Chola’s era.

His Christian And DMK Affiliation

In an interview with Sun TV in 2022, Ranjith confessed his love for Jesus. He said, “I saw a movie about Jesus in which he was portrayed as a normal human who performed divine acts. It hurt me to watch Jesus Christ crucified. I got connected to him in my childhood upon seeing that he bears the sins and sorrows of others.”

In the same interview, Pa. Ranjith discloses that his father was a staunch DMK supporter and was draped in black-red cloth during his funeral.

The horrific incident of dumping of human faeces into a water tank used by Dalits of the Vengaivayal village in the Pudukottai district sent shockwaves across the state. However, condemnation from those who shout the caste word day in and day out did not even make a ripple. One such is Pa Ranjith – mere lipservice for the incident that happened. He tweeted, “The perpetrators must be given the strictest punishment”. That’s about it and they all went about their daily routine.

Hooch Tragedy

The director has remained zipped about the hooch tragedy in Tamil Nadu that caused 23 deaths, in which the perpetrators have direct links to the DMK.

His latest comments supporting Udhayanidhi Stalin has once again led many on social media alleging that Pa. Ranjith continues to be a mouthpiece of Arivalayam.

FIR Filed Against DMK’s Udhayanidhi Stalin For “Eradicate Sanatana Dharma” Remark, Congress’ Priyank Kharge Too Booked

Following massive outrage across the country over DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin equating Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) to diseases and calling for its eradication, an FIR has been registered against him at the Civil Lines Police Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur on Tuesday (6 September 2023).

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s son and Karnataka Congress Minister Priyank Khargee too has been booked.

The FIR has been registered under Sections sections 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings) and 153 A (promoting enmity between different religious groups) of the Indian Penal Code.

Speaking at the “Eradicate Sanatan Conclave”, DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said “The title of this conference has been excellently coined. You’ve named it as ‘Abolish Sanatanam Conference’ and not ‘Oppose Sanatanam Conference’, so my best wishes to that.”

“Mosquitoes, dengue, flu, malaria, corona – we should not oppose these things. They’ve to be eradicated completely. Same is the case with Santanam (Hinduism). Our first work should be to abolish/eradicate Sanatanam instead of opposing it. So, my appreciations to you all for giving an apt title to the meeting.“, DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said.

Following his comments, politicians including the alliance partners of DMK such as Congress and Shiva Sena, and some political commentators have condemned Udhayanidhi Stalin’s speech.

Former judges, government officials, and war veterans have collectively written a letter to the Chief Justice of India, urging him to initiate suo motu proceedings in response to the hate speech delivered by DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

I.N.D.I Ally VCK Man Threatens To Raze Down Kanchi Sankara Mutt

In yet another instance of an I.N.D.I ally making incendiary speech against Hinduism, a man from Thol. Thirumavalavan’s Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) threatened to raze down the Sankara Mutt in Kanchipuram.

This provocative speech comes from the VCK even as the dust is yet to settle down on DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comments likening Sanatana Dharma to Dengue, Malaria, and Corona and calling for its eradication.

In the video shared by Tamil Nadu BJP leader Vinoj P. Selvam, the unidentified VCK cadre can be heard saying “If we congregate, this Sankara Mutt.. if the hundred of us here muster, we will smash it to smithereens and break it brick by brick, I am duty bound to give this warning.”

He further added “Thankfully, the police are here for protection. Because of the police protection, your religion has been saved. If not for them, by this time we would’ve razed it down to rubbles.”

This is not the first time that the VCK has spewed venom against Hinduism or threatened to raze down temples.

While participating in the “Eradicate Sanatana Conclave” in which Udhayanidhi also participated, Thirumvalavan instigated that Other Backward Castes should turn against Forward Caste to eradicate Sanatana Dharma.

The party’s head and Lok Sabha MP Thol. Thirumavalavan had earlier called the figurines in Hindu temple gopurams as ugly and dirty idols.

He had said “If the building has a dome, it is a mosque; if it is tall and straight, it is a church; and if it has dirty idols/dolls, it is a temple“.

He had himself called for the razing down Kanchipuram Kamakshi Temple and Srirangam Ranganathar Temple saying “You (Hindus) have destroyed Buddha Viharas to build temples for Shiva and Perumal…A Buddha Vihara should now come up where Ranganathar sleeps (Srirangam). Another Vihara must be built after pulling down Kanchi Kamakshi temple.”

During his recent visit to Malaysia to participate in the World Tamil Research Conference, Thirumavalavan made remarks that denigrated Sanatana Dharma (Hindu religion) while expressing admiration for other Abrahamic religions. His statements triggered immediate discontent among a section of the audience and several Malaysian Tamils and Malays, filed a complaint with the Malaysian authorities.

In November 2022, Thirumavalavan at the launch of a book store by Tamil separatist Thirumurugan Gandhi’s ‘May 17 Movement’, said that unlike Islam and Christianity, Hinduism is the only religion that is against brotherhood and has the worst social structure in the world.

He had in January 2021 went on a rant against Hindu god Murugan.

In a wave of public condemnation, the recent remarks made by Udayanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, about eradicating Sanatana Dharma have ignited a backlash that extends to businesses associated with the family. The controversy has led to a boycott campaign, with individuals expressing their displeasure by removing Sun Direct advertisement banners from their shops and even further.

The controversy erupted when Udayanidhi Stalin reportedly made disparaging comments about Sanatana Dharma, leading many to express their outrage and disappointment. The response to these comments has taken various forms, including symbolic acts of protest.

Calls for Boycott Of Karunanidhi Family-Owned Businesses

One video circulating on social media from Karnataka features a shop owner, a Sanatana Hindu, removing all Sun Direct advertisement banners from the walls of his shop. 

This symbolic act of protest serves as a demonstration of condemnation for Udayanidhi Stalin’s remarks. The voice-over says, “This video is a warning to Udhayanidhi Stalin. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin has said derogatory words against Sanatana Dharma. In showing our condemnation for that, this Sanatani Hindu is removing all the Sun Direct advertisement banners that are on his shop walls. Jai Shri Ram Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.

In another video originating from one of the Telugu states, a Hindu individual can be seen damaging a “dish” device used for Sun Direct Network’s DTH service. The video is accompanied by a caption that says, “Udhayanidhi Stalin, who spoke about eradicating Sanatana Dharma, his family-run business Sun Direct Network DTH should not be in our house.”

Beyond symbolic actions, some netizens have questioned whether Hindus should take steps to boycott businesses connected to the Stalin/Karunanidhi family.

These businesses include Red Giant Movies, owned by Udayanidhi himself, as well as Kalaignar TV, co-owned by Dayalu (Karunanidhi’s wife) and Kanimozhi (his daughter). Additionally, Rajathi Ammal and Kanimozhi are associated with Westgate Logistics Pvt Ltd.

Expansive Business Network

The Karunanidhi family’s business interests extend to various sectors, involving Udayanidhi’s cousin, Kalanithi Maran, who oversees the Sun Group. This conglomerate encompasses entities such as Sun Pictures, Sun Direct (DTH), Sumangali Cable Vision, SpiceJet (airline), Sunrisers Hyderabad (IPL team), and Sun Network.

The web of family-owned businesses includes Dayanidhi Azhagiri, son of MK Azhagiri (MK Stalin’s brother), who owns CloudNine Movies. Udhayanidhi’s wife, Kiruthiga, owns Inbox 1305, a weekly magazine. Several other family members are involved in smaller businesses, ranging from a cyber park and an event management company to an NGO.

The controversy surrounding Udayanidhi Stalin’s remarks has not only stirred public sentiment but has also raised questions about the intersection of politics and business.
