Madras High Court Slaps ₹1 Crore Fine On Kerala Woman For Defaming Former Health Minister Vijayabaskar

The Madras High Court imposed a substantial fine of ₹1 crore 13 lakh on a woman named Sharmila from Kerala, holding her accountable for defaming AIADMK leader and former Health Minister Vijayabaskar who currently serves as MLA of the Viralimalai Assembly Constituency.

Sharmila has been accused of maliciously spreading false accusations against the former minister prompting him to pursue legal action for damages. The recent court proceedings witnessed Vijayabaskar personally appearing before the judiciary the day before yesterday with his lawyers Nithayesh, Vaibhav and Anirudh appearing for him.

Following today’s hearing, Justice Sathish Kumar delivered the verdict. The judgment, says that Vijayabaskar, being a former Health Minister, commanding widespread respect in society for his commendable efforts during the COVID-19 period, earning him various accolades should not be subjected to defamation.

Sharmila was directed to pay the cost towards the legal expenses incurred by ex minister during the course of legal battle.

Furthermore, the court issued a directive prohibiting the publication of news related to this case in newspapers and other media outlets. It explicitly mandated the immediate deletion of all messages and posts pertaining to the matter on social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.

In a final ruling, Justice Satish Kumar ordered a fine of ₹1 crore 13 lakh on Sharmila for disseminating defamatory news. Additionally, Sharmila was instructed to reimburse the legal expenses incurred by ex-minister Vijayabaskar during the course of this legal battle.

PMK’s Anbumani Ramadoss Supports EVR Who Abused Hindus And Hindu Gods, Warns BJP Leader Annamalai

In a recent meeting with the press held in Aroor, Dharmapuri district, PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi) leader Anbumani Ramadoss addressed several key issues such as emphasising the need for a caste-wise census in Tamil Nadu, expressing concerns about the escalating drug trade in Tamil Nadu, adversely affecting students and youth and also proposed the immediate employment of 20,000 individuals in the police department, including youth, ex-army personnel, and former police officers, to combat the drug menace effectively.

Addressing the recent controversies surrounding Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party president Annamalai’s comments on Dravidian ideologue EVR also referred to as Periyar, Ramadoss strongly condemned the criticism. He said, “We can’t do anything about that. This is the land of Thandhai Periyar. It is wrong to talk like that on this land. Had it not been for Periyar, there would not have been social justice in Tamil Nadu. He is the one who started social justice in India. In India, after the independence, when we were trying to get reservation and the court had prevented it, under the leadership of Periyar, several protests were held. Only after that and because there was no way out, the government brought the first amendment. Not only that, only after him, all the downtrodden people were able to rise up. So, Annamalai or the party and people associated with him shouldn’t talk derogatorily about Thandhai Periyar. We consider 3 leaders as the pioneers of the PMK – One is Thandhai Periyar, the other is Ambedkar, and the third one is Karl Marx. If anyone talks bad about these three, we will not be quiet.”

Speaking at Srirangam earlier this week, Annamalai declared that, when the BJP came to power in the state, immediate action would be taken to remove plaques and statues of non-believers, particularly those of Periyar, positioned outside temples across the state. This statement stirred strong reactions, particularly among followers of the Dravidian ideology.

“Is The Police For The People Or The Ruling Party?”, Madras HC Questions TN Police Over Permission Denial For PMK Rally

In a recent development, the Madras High Court raised pertinent questions regarding the Tamil Nadu Police’s role in granting permissions for public events, particularly in response to a petition filed by Saravanan, the Secretary of the Patali Makkal Katchi (PMK), in the Chennai High Court.

Saravanan sought permission from the Ranipet Police Department for a bicycle rally aimed at promoting the policies of the PMK, including the campaign against alcohol. However, the police denied permission for the rally, prompting Saravanan to file a petition in the Madras High Court, urging an order for the police to reconsider and grant approval for the event.

During the hearing before Justice Jayachandran, concerns were raised about the disparity in granting permissions. The judge questioned whether the police, as a government agency, was acting on behalf of the general public or solely in favor of the ruling party. Justice Jayachandran asked, “Is the police for the people or the ruling party? When permission is granted to allow marathons and walkathons to be conducted, why cannot permission be given for a campaign that speaks against alcohol? Will the police give permission only to the ruling party? Who is the police for? For the general public? For the ruling party? They allege that if the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Department conduct raids, it is a central government agency. Whose agency is the Tamil Nadu Police acting as?”

The petitioner further emphasised the need for unbiased consideration of their request, highlighting the contrast between permissions granted for physical activities like marathons versus awareness campaigns against alcohol.

Justice Jayachandran ordered the petitioner to submit details of permissions granted for processions and public meetings held in Ranipet the previous month. The case has been adjourned until November 2023, with a warning that the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) should appear in person to provide an explanation if permissions were selectively granted.

TN Police did not grant permission for RSS marches last year and this year on Vijaya Dasami day across the state.

Petrol Bomb Hurled At Chennai’s Veerabhadra Swamy Temple

The news about the petrol bomb attack at the Tamil Nadu Governor’s residence has hardly cooled down that yet another petrol bomb attack comes in the news.

This time, the attack took place at a temple in Chennai. A 38-year-old man, identified as Murali Krishnan, hurled a petrol bomb at the Veerabhadra Swamy Temple in Kothavalchavadi, Chennai, causing panic and shock. The temple, located on Govindappa Nayakkar Street, witnessed the disturbing event as Murali Krishnan, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, engaged in a dispute in front of the temple.

In a state of intoxication, Murali Krishnan brandished a petrol bomb, prompting the temple priest to raise an alarm and flee. Subsequently, Murali Krishnan threw the petrol bomb at the temple, leading to an explosion outside the premises. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene, apprehending Murali Krishnan, who was heavily intoxicated at the time of his arrest. During the police interrogation, Murali Krishnan claimed that he had been praying to the deity at the temple for the past four years but felt unanswered. In a fit of anger, he admitted to throwing the petrol bomb.

Murali Krishnan, known to run a cashew and dry fruit shop in the vicinity, already had prior criminal cases pending against him. The police have registered a case against him under five sections and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. It has been revealed that Murali Krishnan had a history of criminal activities, and he had undergone treatment at a drug rehabilitation center after a previous stint in prison.

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party Chief K Annamalai made a post on social media platform X questioning the state of law and order in Tamil Nadu under the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime. He wrote, “A petrol bomb was thrown at the Bharatiya Janata Party office in Chennai, a petrol bomb was thrown at the Governor’s House, and a petrol bomb was thrown inside the temple today. A petrol bomb has been thrown on the statue of Swami inside the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Veerabhadra Swamy Temple, Barimuna Govindappa Nayakkan Street, Chennai. Law and order in Tamil Nadu has gone to the bottom. The result of DMK’s failure to control the separatist organizations that talk about pseudo-secularism and semi-atheism has resulted in petrol bombs being thrown inside temples today. The DMK government is fully responsible for this, as it tried to disguise the terror attack as a cylinder blast.”

“Aandavar” For Real?: Kamal’s Elitism At Birthday Event Sparks Row; Barricades Himself From Fans Waiting To See Him, Refuses Selfies And Shakehands

Bigg Boss host, full-time actor and part-time politician Kamal Haasan’s recent birthday celebration took an unexpected turn, sparking criticism and debate across the internet. Celebrating his 69th birthday on 7 November 2023, Kamal Haasan met with fans at the RK Convention Center in Neelankarai, Chennai, where his actions stirred controversy.

During the event, fans from various parts of Tamil Nadu eagerly gathered to meet the actor and presented him with gifts. They were made stand in serpentine queues and Kamal was standing behind a barricade with bouncers pushing one fan after another in a few seconds.

As enthusiastic fans approached Kamal Haasan for a handshake, the actor reportedly refused and only greeted the fans with a namaste. The fans, seemingly disappointed, lingered for a few moments before leaving the place. This incident has triggered a debate online, with many questioning Haasan’s actions and interpreting them as a deviation from the norm of treating everyone equally.

Critics have drawn parallels between this incident and Kamal Haasan’s previous statements about not encouraging acts like falling on one’s feet, which he deemed as a form of subservience. Social media has been flooded with criticism, with some even connecting the incident to #JusticeForPradeep, a contestant from the reality show “Bigg Boss.”

Kamal Haasan, who ventured into politics by contesting in the Coimbatore South constituency in the 2021 elections, faced a narrow defeat. Since then, there has been a notable shift in the dynamics of his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, with key executives joining other parties, predominantly the DMK.

Some netizens have also questioned if this behaviour is a new form of “untouchability” that the actor was practicing.

Critics also compared Kamal’s behaviour with that of actors Vijay and Rajinikanth who gladly take selfies and shake hands with their fans.

The actor’s recent behavior at his birthday celebration maintaining a distance from fans and refraining from handshakes or photographs, left many of his admirers disheartened. Despite the presence of bouncers attempting to manage the crowd, their efforts fell short, resulting in arguments with party workers and a palpable sense of disappointment among the fans.

On the other hand, there was a separate birthday party thrown for Kamal at Chennai where all celebrities from the cine field had come. In this, Kamal was seen taking photographs with Amir Khan, Suriya Sivakumar and other celebrities.

What EVR Said About DMK, Communists, And Congress

BJP Tamil Nadu Head K. Annamalai has hit the raw nerve of the DMK, Communists and Congress by quoting EVR’s (hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his followers) views about each of these parties.

His comment comes after his Srirangam Declaration where he declared that all statues and plaques bearing ‘Those who believe in God are idiots’ will be removed/relocated.

Today, from this land of Srirangam, the BJP is taking a vow. Once the BJP comes to power in Tamil Nadu, the first task would be to remove that plaque and flagpole outside the temple. Statues of Azhwars and Nayanmars would be installed. Statues of Tamil scholars would be erected. Tamil scholar Thiruvalluvar’s statue will be installed. Those who sacrificed their lives during the freedom movement, their statues would be installed and worshipped. Not the statue which says ‘Those who believe in God are idiots’. As soon as the BJP comes to power, the BJP government would remove all such statues placed outside all temples.”, Annamalai had said.

Following this Annamalai gave a press meet in which he explained the rationale for not having such plaques outside Hindu places of worship. He quoted the very same EVR to hit back at the DMK, Communists, and Congress who have been simping for EVR.

EVR About Communism And Communists

Here is a list of instances and quotes from EV Ramasamy Periyar in which he criticised Communists and communism. The majority of the quotes were taken from the book “Collected Works Of Periyar E.V.R” by Dravidar Kazhagam’s current president, Ki Veeramani.

He claimed that Brahmins dominate trade union leadership positions, saying, “The leader of the Congress party is a Brahmin. The leader of the socialists is a Brahmin. The leader of the communists is a Brahmin. The leader of the Hindu Maha Sabha is a Brahmin. The leader of R.S.S is a Brahmin. The leader of the Trade Union is a Brahmin. The President of India is a Brahmin. They are all one in the heart of hearts.

EV Ramasamy Naicker described Communists as exploiters, similar to foreigners, saying, “The communists have their office at a foreign place like Bombay or Delhi, they are only interested in exploiting us like the other foreign controlled parties. Janaskthi’s [CPI journal] editors are Brahmins and wherever Brahmin goes he is likely to support caste differences.

EV Ramasamy Naicker stated that Communism is a useless ideology, saying, “Talking Communism without eradicating caste is like discussing higher education without the rudiments of learning.

He claimed that the introduction of Communism into India would result in the exploitation of people who did not own land. “There can be no scope for Communism in a country, where there is absence of common ownership and rights. If attempts are made to bring in Communism in a country, which does not have common ownership and rights, it will only give room for those who already enjoy more rights to reap the benefits of Communism,” EV Ramasamy Naicker said.

He went on to say that the cooperative spirit will reign in the future, propelling society forward, and that communism is not required to teach this. EV Ramasamy Naicker stated, “One day or other the co-operative spirit will reign supreme making the society march on towards progress. It is not necessary that Communism should be fostered for that. Without talking a word about communism, you can make the society progressive with the help of mere co-operation.”

He went on to say that communism is a sham and that their only agenda is to criticise the rich while ignoring Brahminism and Varnashrama Dharma, which are promoted by people like Rajaji and political parties like the Congress.

In his speech delivered at Trichy on 21-2-1943, EV Ramasamy Naicker said, “All the talks on communism in our country is bogus. Our youths must keep away from such talks. What is the work they do? Their eyes are always on the leaders of the Justice Party. Their work is to criticise the Muslims and rich people. They are not worried about the evil casteism or reactionary propaganda of Gandhi. They are not worried about Rajaji who wants only the Brahmins to live happily. They are not worried about the Congress party that upholds the Varnasrama Dharma. They are not worried about khadhi being symbolic of barbarous age. The communists are dominated by the evil forces cited above. So I appeal to the youth to be aware of these communists. Communism here, as it is, is a sugar coated poisonous pill. Beware!

On December 25, 1968, under the rule of DMK Chief Minister Annadurai, Tamil Nadu witnessed the worst massacre of Dalits, who were protesting for the pay hike. However, instead of criticizing the perpetrators of the crime EV Ramasamy Naicker criticized Communists who were with the Dalits during the protests.

During the Sembanur Kovil public meeting on January 12, 1968, just a few days after the massacre, EV Ramasamy Naicker said, “The Communists were responsible for the Nagai Taluk massacre (referring to Keezhvenmani). They were responsible for the deaths of 42 people.

Blaming the Communists and asking Dalits to live within their means rather than protest for pay raises, EVR said, “Without telling you how the workers should live with what they have, the Communist comrades are trying to create riots and revolutions in Tamil Nadu and overthrow this regime.

Aside from what EV Ramaasamy Naicker said about communists and communism, there are a number of accounts written by various authors about the atrocities committed by Communists.

To summarize, EVR and Karl Marx have nothing in common other than their long unkempt beard. So, Communists trying to defend and appropriate EVR only looks bad on themselves.

Let’s go to Congress

EVR About Congress And MK Gandhi

The Congress party in its attempt to keep the DMK in good humour has gone on to venerate and appropriate the very same man who had called for its annihilation including that of Mahatma Gandhi. Every year on September 17, the Congress party heaps praises on E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (known as Periyar by his followers) on the occassion of his birth anniversary.

Unlike the Congress party whose leaders are now idolizing the vile iconoclastic demagogue, EVR was not kind to them.

There has not been a single leader who has criticized Gandhi as rabidly and unjustly as EVR did. He had even called for the ‘annihilation of Gandhi’ and ‘annihilation of Congress’ along with the ‘annihilation of Brahmins’.

EVR in 1927 had said “My friend Ramanathan and I told the Mahatma (when we met him) that three tasks had to be completed for India attaining independence and self-respect. The first would be the destruction of the Congress party, the second the destruction of Hindu religion and the third the destruction of the domination of Brahmins. The third would automatically happen when the first two tasks were completed. Gandhi’s response was not to our satisfaction.

EVR was someone who opposed the very idea of India and was dead against Mahatma Gandhi. He had called for a Dravidistan along the lines of Pakistan and also tried to collude with Muhammad Ali Jinnah for the same. However, Jinnah saw him as a threat to his own plans and showed EVR the finger.

In 1957, he had called for the burning of pictures of Mahatma Gandhi. He saidWe were cheated by Gandhi. Our land (the Tamil land) has been enslaved to the Northerners and Brahmins by Gandhi. It is because of Gandhi that people lost all great qualities they had…(and) it is now impossible to live without being immoral, dishonest, deceitful and traitorous.

In a speech made in December 1973, this is what he had to say about Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination – “These are our five principles—annihilation of God, annihilation of religion, annihilation of Gandhi, annihilation of Congress and annihilation of Brahmins…Before we could annihilate Gandhi, the Brahmins did the task for us“.

Though he expressed his condolences when Mahatma Gandhi died, he resorted to calling Gandhi names again.

In a rally held on 4-11-1973, Periyar said “Watch out for the people who are saying ‘Jai Congress’ & ‘Jai Gandhi’ they are implicitly accepting they are bastard sons of paarpans (brahmins). They are accepting that they are lowborn.

He had even called for burning Mahatma Gandhi’s photos and razing down of his statues.

EVR About DMK

The book “Thanthai Periyar’s Irudhi Perurai (“Marana Sasanam”), is a compilation of the last speeches of EVR.

Here’s a quote from Page 21 of that book.

There is nobody, there is nobody to tell, there is nobody to think, what all are they (DMK) giving for a vote! He is giving away everything except his wife. For getting votes, he is not worried about this. Who? I am talking about the Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) folks only. Others would swear at me if I tell this. What is the necessity for DMK guys to do this? Why are they doing all these things? For him, votes are ultimate. He is not bothered about his wife or children. He believes that this will become the norm in a few days – to sell one’s wife and act in the interest of those who buy her – as power is important.

This speech was quoted by Annamalai in back in September 2022 when DMK MP. A Raja went on a tirade against Hindus and Hinduism.

If EVR’s quote calling those who worship Gods as idiots and barbarians can be placed outside Hindu temples, then by that logic, his quotes on DMK, Congress and Communists should also be placed outside the respective party offices?

“Communists Live By Licking Other’s Feet, DMK Men Live By Selling Their Wives”: BJP TN Head Annamalai Digs Out EVR’s Gems

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai has hit on the raw nerve of Dravidianist politics with his recent declaration from the ramparts of Srirangam Temple where he declared that once BJP comes to power in Tamil Nadu, all statues bearing the plaque ‘Those who believe in God are idiots’ will be removed/relocated. He said that the BJP government would instead install statues of Azhwars, Nayanmars, Thiruvalluvar and freedom fighters.

Addressing a massive crowd in Srirangam on 7 November 2023, Annamalai said “Outside this (Ranganathar) temple, once the DMK came to power in 1967, they kept a plaque. What does that plaque say? ‘Those who believe in God are idiots, cheats. Don’t believe in God.’ As if they’ve achieved something big, they’ve installed such a plaque with a flag. We Hindus are people who live peacefully following the path of dharma.

Adding further, the BJP Tamil Nadu chief said “Today, from this land of Srirangam, the BJP is taking a vow. As soon as the BJP comes to power, the BJP government would remove all such statues placed outside all temples.

Following this, Annamalai gave a press meet at the BJP Tamil Nadu headquarters in Chennai in which he further went on to clarify that the statues of EVR should be placed at appropriate places and not outside a temple.

He said “I’m not saying EVR shouldn’t have a statue. EVR’s statue should be kept at a public place as a neutral figure. There are many such statues of different leaders. Some people like certain leaders, some people don’t. With respect to temples, only those leaders who believed in God should be kept. I want Mutuhramalinga Thevar Ayya’s statue to be kept outside Madurai Meenakshi Temple. I want Vaidyanatha Iyer’s statue to be kept outside Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. Because these people worked with spirituality and dharma during the freedom struggle. EVR’s statue should also be there. Where should it be there? I am telling you the place for that. If I say there must be no EVR statue, your point is valid. I am saying EVR’s statue should be there. But the BJP is saying where his statue should not be there. Look at it this way. The BJP is clear about where EVR statue and his quotes should not be there and is placing it before the people. We trust that the people will accept.

He further went on to quote what EVR said about Communists, Congress and the DMK.

If I start quoting EVR selectively.. Communist party. I already mentioned. ‘Communists are those who survive by licking other’s feet. EVR said this. Can I keep this quote outside Communist party office? ‘Congress should be abolished’. EVR said this. Can we keep this outside Congress office? About DMK, EVR said ‘DMK men sell their wives for votes’. Can we keep this outside DMK’s office?“, he asked

Madras HC Sets Aside DMK Govt’s Ban On Online Rummy & Poker, Sun News Spreads Fake News, Netizens Ask Where Is Mission Director?

Sun News owned by DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran’s brother Kalanithi Maran, which functions as the media mouthpiece of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, is back at spreading fake news again. They shared a post on social media platform X that the online gambling law is applicable.

In actuality, on 9 November 2023, the Madras High Court declined to strike down the entire Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Act, 2022. However, it ruled that the Act would only apply to “games of chance” and not games of skill like rummy and poker. This decision came in response to a batch of writ petitions filed by the All India Gaming Federation and several individual online gaming companies challenging the law’s constitutional validity.

In response to a series of writ petitions filed by the All India Gaming Federation and various individual online gaming companies challenging the constitutional validity of the law, the First Division Bench, led by Chief Justice Sanjay V. Gangapurwala and Justice P.D. Audikesavalu, issued a partial judgment. They rejected the plea to declare the entire Act unconstitutional but invalidated the schedule of the Act, which encompassed games like rummy and poker. The Bench clarified that Section 2(l)(4) of the Act should be interpreted as applicable to games of chance, excluding games of skill such as rummy and poker. Additionally, the Bench noted that the State government had the authority to regulate the timing and age restrictions for online game players.

Other Fake News And Half Truths Peddled By Sun News

In April 2021, Sun News had peddled fake news about people dying due to lack of oxygen supply at the Corona Special Ward of Vellore Government Hospital.

Sun News, through its official handle had put a news card in which it claimed that BJP workers collected garbage at the Besant Nagar beach on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and left the collected garbage in bags in the beach itself. However, BJP Tamil Nadu Youth Wing President Vinoj P. Selvam clarified that the garbage collected was taken in a corporation vehicle.

A tampered video of an elderly Muslim man being assaulted was shared widely which was also shared by Sun News saying that his beard was forcibly cut for not chanting ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’. However, this fake news was busted.

Very recently, Sun News posted a video on social media platform X quoting Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party President K Annamalai’s speech during his En Mann En Makkal yatra. Annamalai was speaking about the lack of electricity at the Marudhamalai Murugan temple. The incident that Annamalai quoted at his yatra mentions how it was Chinnappa Devar popularly known as Sandow MMA Chinnappa Devar was instrumental in getting an electricity connection for the Marudhamalai Temple in Coimbatore. Sun News posted the video with a question, “Was DMK in power in 1962?” and shared a photo of the engraved inauguration stone mentioning MGR and Chinnappa Devar, trying to prove that they fact checked the claim and it turned out to be wrong.

IIT Bombay Students Write Open Letter Rejecting Romanticization Of Terrorism & Divisive Agenda In Campus; Calls Out Indian Express’ Biased Reporting

Following the instance of IIT Bombay’s HSS department inviting a terror sympathiser who had glorified Palestinian terrorists and their gun culture, the students of the institution put out an open letter rejecting romanticization of terrorism and promoting divisive agenda in the campus.

The letter comes after Indian Express published an article quoting the cancellation of the talk by radical leftist Achin Vanaik and the lack of coverage regarding the controversial speech by terror sympathizing leftist theatre artist Sudhanva Deshpande. Their open letter questions the Indian Express’s stance on these matters and calls for transparency and accountability.

Saying No To Terrorism

The first flashpoint centres on an academic course, “HS-835: Performance Theory & Praxis,” conducted by Professor Sharmistha Saha, hailing from the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences at IIT Bombay. On 6 November 2023, during one of the course lectures, Mr. Sudhanva Deshpande, an invited speaker, delivered statements that transcended the boundaries of academic discourse. Deshpande’s remarks, centered around his experiences with individuals who have indulged in terror acts and their vision for a “free Palestine,” ignited concerns among the student body. He made a statement, “In 2015, the first time I have gone to Palestine. I’ve been there twice. On my first visit, I was lucky to meet Zakaria Zubeidi”. Ghassan Kanafani said that “In order to have liberation, we need guns. We have to fight the occupation. You know it has to be an armed struggle. But if we don’t have the culture to go with the guns, guns will turn on us. In other words, you know, we will start killing each other if we don’t have the culture with the guns. This is something that I do want to emphasize that the Palestinian struggle is a freedom struggle. And there has been no freedom struggle in the history of the world, in the history of colonialism that is entirely 100% nonviolent. It is never!”

The students at IIT Bombay expressed apprehensions that such statements might inflame violence and animosity among those in attendance.

They also opposed the way Sudhanva Deshpande introduced Zakaria Zubeidi, a militant fighter – as an incredible visionary and legendary figure during a lecture at IIT Bombay. This description of Zubeidi raised concerns among students who felt that glorifying terrorists was unacceptable. The students accused Deshpande and Prof. Sharmistha Saha of promoting violence under the guise of an academic course, and they criticized Deshpande for not acknowledging the recent terror attack on Israel and for downplaying democratic elections in Israel.

Achin Vanaik’s Visit And Student Opposition

In the statement, IIT Bombay students also said that they strongly opposed Mr. Achin Vanaik’s visit to their institution due to concerns over his divisive and controversial statements. Vanaik is known for making anti-religious remarks, particularly against Hinduism, and has labeled Hindutva as anti-Muslim and anti-Islamic. Furthermore, he has made derogatory comments about the Indian Army, referring to their actions as terrorism and questioning the motives of Indian soldiers. His recent comments during a lecture at O.P. Jindal University on November 1, 2023, attracted substantial attention and triggered widespread controversy.

The students questioned the intentions of the event’s organizer, Prof. Anush Kapadia, and raised concerns about the potential for such politically driven talks to harm the institute’s environment. They wrote that they sought strict policies to prevent similar events in the future.

In their open letter, the students underscored the paramount importance of upholding academic values such as transparency, ethics, safety, inclusivity, and a resolute commitment to educational excellence. They expressed their unwavering belief in IIT Bombay’s pivotal role as a vanguard of these principles. Furthermore, the letter included a formal request to the IIT Bombay administration to diligently address their concerns. The students of IIT Bombay are committed to upholding high ethical, safety, inclusivity, transparency, and educational standards within their institution. The letter ends with an accusation of the Indian Express of selective quoting and misrepresentation in its reporting of Vanaik’s comments, highlighting double standards in its coverage. They also mentioned the newspaper’s silence regarding insinuations on Hinduism by another academic, Professor Divya Dwivedi.

“I Stand By My Statements & Will Not Apologise”, I.N.D.I. Ally DMK Scion Udhayanidhi Stalin On His Eradicate Sanatana Dharma Remarks

The controversy around the “eradicate Sanatana Dharma” comments made by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam minister and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin’s son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, refuses to die down. This time once again Udhayanidhi has ensured the topic will be alive for some more time.

Speaking at an event, in a news byte circulating on social media platform X, Udhayanidhi Stalin is seen saying, “Two months ago, a big controversy broke out. I spoke for only two minutes at Kamarajar Arangam. No one would have known that I had spoken. But they exaggerated it, made it a lie, made it so monstrous, and even added things that I never spoke. Atleast all I did was speak, a case was filed on me. This man was just watching the fun (pointing to someone). Now even he has a case filed against him. I was asked to apologise, but I said, do whatever you want, I will not apologise, I stand by what I spoke. Let law take its course. We have faith in the court. We did not speak about any religion derogatorily. We need social justice, I only spoke about everyone being equal. I am the son of Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin and the grandson of Kalaignar. I stand by what I spoke and I have only spoken about our principles, I will not back off from what I said.”

In September 2023, Udhayanidhi participated in an conference titled “Eradicate Sanatana Dharma” and had compared Sanatana Dharma to diseases like dengue, malaria and said that it had to be eradicated. Cases were filed against him and recently, Justice Anita Sumanth of the Madras High Court asked the counsel appearing for Udhayanidhi to indicate where or how he interpreted that Sanatana Dharma was responsible for caste system.
