Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu Blasts Jaganmohan Reddy As ‘Indian Pablo Escobar’ In Assembly

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched a fierce rebuttal against his predecessor Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in the state assembly on 25 July 2024, drawing a controversial comparison to Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. This criticism followed a protest by Reddy in Delhi, where he showcased images and videos highlighting alleged violence in the state, accusing  Naidu and his party of targeting YSR Congress workers and leaders.

In the assembly, Naidu remarked, “Pablo Escobar is a Colombian drug lord, he is a Narco terrorist. He turned politician and then started his cartel to sell drugs. He earned 30 Billion Dollars at that time, now it’s 90 Billion Dollars worth. He was arrested in 1976 and in 1980 he became the number one richest drug lord in the world. One can become richer by selling drugs as well. What was the aim of former Chief Minister (YS Jagan)? Tata, Reliance, Ambani have money and he aspired to become richer than them. Few have needs, few have greed and few have mania and these maniacs do these kinds of things.”

In his speech, Chandrababu Naidu vowed to review all criminal cases from the YSR Congress regime, pledging to hold accountable police officers who allegedly fabricated charges against thousands. He blamed the lawlessness from 2019 to 2024 on a police-criminal nexus exacerbated by some YSRCP leaders pursuing personal vendettas.

Naidu criticized Reddy’s leadership, likening him to Pablo Escobar, and condemned the rise in murders, assaults, and drug-related crimes during his term. He released a white paper detailing the law and order situation in the state from 2019 to 2024, asserting that Reddy’s administration exhibited traits of ‘state terrorism’ driven by an extreme pursuit of power.

Naidu also highlighted issues such as the mysterious murder of former MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, the alleged murder by YSRCP MLC Ananta Satya Udaya Bhaskar, and other severe incidents, which he attributed to a sadistic mindset among Mr. Reddy and his associates.

Furthermore, he criticized the subjugation of police officers under YSRCP rule, noting their forced transfer to ‘vacancy reserve’ where they faced salary stoppages and pressure. He cautioned lawmakers against retaliatory actions, urging them to avoid actions that could lead to further trouble for the government.

Dravidianist And ‘Kissflow’ CEO Suresh Sambandam Who Laid Off 15% Of His Staff To Give Talk On Creating 10 Lakh Jobs

Dravidianist sympathizer Suresh Sambandam, who runs Kissflow, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) firm based in Chennai, is known for spreading fake news, is back in the news.

In a programme to be conducted by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department and Public Library at Anna Centenary Library Conference Hall on 27 July 2024, Sambandam will be making a speech on the topic, “100-billion-dollar target, 1 million (10 lakh) jobs”

Ironically, Sambandam’s Kissflow laid off about 15% of its workforce just a few weeks ago, in June 2024. This decision affected approximately 45-50 employees across various departments, including sales, marketing, and product development.

CEO Suresh Sambandam said the layoffs were part of a strategic shift resulting from annual performance reviews. Sambandam clarified that around 20-25 employees were dismissed due to a transition from land-motion procurement to expand-motion, aiming to enhance customer acquisition across Kissflow’s product suite. Additionally, routine performance reviews, conducted every two to three years, terminated about 20 more employees.

Before these layoffs, Kissflow had a workforce of over 400 people. The job cuts impacted staff in India, the US, and the UAE, with fewer than five employees being let go in the latter two regions.

Founded in 2012, Kissflow offers cloud-based no-code and low-code work management tools. Notably, two years ago, the company awarded brand new BMW 5 Series cars to five senior executives in recognition of their long-term commitment.

Netizens questioned his qualification for delivering the address. Here are a few reactions:

https://twitter.com/Bagavathprathee/status/1816396664284090432

Sambandam is known to peddle half-truths frequently. In April 2024, as the political parties were campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections, he shared a video of a DMK minister’s son-in-law’s video stating that a Kovai doctor was supporting DMK. He has regularly indulged in calling BJP supporters as Sanghis. He also shared fake data and fudged numbers to show Tamil Nadu in good light while pooh-poohing the BJP-ruled states such as Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

Congress-Linked “Protest Toolkit” Farmers – A Look At The Timeline Of Political Orchestration To Cause Disruption

The age-old political party, Congress, often raises the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers as an issue to challenge and disrupt the ruling BJP government. Since 2019, the BJP government has increased MSP and introduced three farm laws in 2020 to address agricultural concerns. However, Congress, aligning with landlords disguised as farmers, worked to suppress and repeal these laws. Whenever Congress wants to create tension, they activate their toolkits, staging protests posing as farmers, raising questions about whether these people are truly farmers.

The MSP and farmers’ issues had faded from the spotlight for some time. However, as 15 August, Independence Day, approaches, Congress has revived the topic. On 24 July 2024, a delegation of supposed farmer leaders from various states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, met with Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to discuss their grievances.

In this backdrop, it is worth examining the true background and legitimacy of these so-called farmer delegations.

Timeline Of Congress-Linked “Toolkit” Farmers

Several months ago, a group of so-called professional farmer protesters began their demonstration. The Haryana government initially intervened to prevent them from reaching the border, but a recent high court ruling now mandates their access to Delhi.

On 16 November 2023, Deependra Hooda, a Congress leader with close ties to Rahul Gandhi, met with Ramandeep Singh Mann, the organizer of these professional farmer protests, to discuss future plans. By 24 November 2023, Mann announced a planned rally based on these discussions.

Subsequently, Deependra Hooda was in the USA at Sam Pitroda’s invitation on 30 November 2023, but by 10 December 2023, he was back in India, starting a series of rallies concerning farmers’ issues.

On 11 December 2023, Ramandeep Singh Mann met with other protest organizers in Chandigarh, where these so-called farmers were seen enjoying Starbucks coffee. Later that day, they announced a planned march to Delhi for late January or February 2024.

Another key figure in this plan is Guramneet Mangat, who is now involved as a professional farmer protester after serving as a Congress panellist. Photos reveal Mangat’s previous affiliations with Congress; many other protesters also have Congress ties.

On 24 December, 2023, Mann met with Congress leaders Digvijay Singh and Gurdeep Singh Sappal. The following day, they declared a march to Delhi for February 2024.

On 26 December, Mann met again with Deependra Hooda, and on 27 December, with Pawan Khera in Delhi. By 30 December, they had set a date for planning the march, which was officially scheduled for 13 February 2024, on 2 January 2024.

Mann also met former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda on 8 January 2024, and on 10 January, he, Guramneet, and other protesters convened in Chandigarh to begin preparations.

The coordination of this protest, dubbed “Farmer Protest-2” or the “Congress Protest,” appears to be managed by Guramneet Mangat.

On 11 February 2024, Rahul Gandhi reportedly instructed his cadres to support regime change through this protest.

Tejveer Singh, another prominent protester, has explicitly stated that the aim of the protest is to effect political change on behalf of opposition parties, suggesting that the protest’s genuine concern for farmers may be a pretext. Singh’s connections with Congress leader Akhil Chaudhary further indicate the political motivations behind this movement.

Thus, the entire narrative surrounding the farmers’ protest appears to be driven by the politically motivated agendas of age-old congress party, rather than being a genuine grievance of farmers from various states.

DMK Min PTR Comes Out In Support Of Kerala Communist Govt Appointing ‘Foreign Secretary’

In an order dated 15 July 2024, the Kerala government, led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, appointed senior bureaucrat K Vasuki as Foreign Secretary in matters concerning external cooperation. This move has drawn significant criticism from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and political opponents.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, addressing a media briefing, emphasized that foreign affairs are exclusively under the Union government’s jurisdiction according to the Constitution of India. Jaiswal stated, “Foreign affairs is not a concurrent subject and definitely not a State subject. State governments should not intrude into matters beyond their constitutional jurisdiction.”

K Vasuki, currently serving as Secretary (Labour and Skills), will now coordinate external cooperation efforts. She will be assisted by the General Administration (Political) department and the resident commissioner of Kerala House in New Delhi to liaise with the MEA and Indian diplomatic missions abroad.

DMK Minister for Information Technology & Digital Services, PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, took to his official X handle to comment on the “instances” where the Union government allegedly intruded on the State List. He wrote, “So what about the many instances in which the Union Govt has “intruded”, and even legislated on items in the State List (7th Schedule List II): Agriculture, Mining, State Borrowing & Debt, and so many others via condition-loaded CSS? One rule for us, another for you, as always?”

India is a country as a whole, and external affairs are always taken care of by the central government. By appointing the foreign secretary, Kerala is indicating that it is seemingly treading the path of separatism.

Establishing an external affairs representative in Kerala is ill-advised, even with limited responsibilities. It’s akin to a junior employee or a class teacher attempting to speak for the entire organization when the principal or management already represents the whole institution.

Notably, the central government remains the highest authority, regardless of complaints.

Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor found the move “fairly unusual.” Speaking to PTI, he said, “The fact is that foreign relations are controlled by the Union government and no state government has any independent foreign relations but it is entirely appropriate for state governments to work without Embassies abroad for matter involving their residents. Now, to give a specific responsibility of this nature to one official is fairly unusual. But it is very clearly understood that she has no foreign relationship responsibility of her own but it would be basically through Indian government’s bodies.”

Captain Lakshmi Sahgal: A Revolutionary Life In Service Of India

Lakshmi Sahgal, often referred to as Captain Lakshmi, a tribute to her rank when she was imprisoned in Burma during the Second World War, was born on 24th October 1914 to Subbarama Swaminathan, a lawyer who practised criminal law at Madras High Court and A.V. Ammukutty, a social worker and independence activist.

Early Life And Education

She had two brothers Govind Swaminathan, who was an eminent lawyer, and one of the leading members of the Chennai Bar, Subram, her younger brother, and a sister Mrinalini Sarabhai, wife of nuclear scientist Vikram Sarabhai, who was a famous dancer. Lakshmi studied at Queen Mary’s College, after which she had the option to study abroad. Still, she was determined to become a doctor to serve people experiencing poverty and chose to pursue medicine.

She received her MBBS degree from Madras Medical College in 1938. The following year, she received her diploma in gynaecology and obstetrics. She worked as a doctor at the Government Kasturba Gandhi Hospital in Triplicane, Chennai.

Brought up in an Anglophile family, the turning point in her life was when her father, Swaminathan, defended a young man, Kadambur, accused of murdering a British officer, De la Haye. It created a storm in Chennai, an advocate that saved a native who murdered an honourable English officer! After this incident, she was pulled out of her English school, and she attended a government school with her siblings. Her family started to converse in Malayalam and Tamil instead of English. This incident made Lakshmi and her family plunge into the ongoing freedom struggle. She saw her mother go from a Madras socialite to an ardent Congress supporter.

Her mother was a strong woman who walked into her daughter’s room and took away all the child’s foreign clothes to burn in a bonfire of foreign goods supporting the Swadeshi movement. In the South, the fight for political freedom was fought alongside the struggle for social reform. Campaigns for political independence were waged together with struggles for temple entry for Dalits and against child marriage and dowry. In due course, her interest in politics was kindled by Subashini, a radical who had spent many years in Germany and the younger sister of Sarojini Naidu, one of the accused in the Meerut conspiracy case. She was hiding in Lakshmi’s house then and introduced the young lady to communism. Later, this influenced her to join the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Her marriage was fixed with pilot P.K.N. Rao. Her marriage was cancelled for some reason, which was yet another turning point in Lakshmi’s life.

Journey To Singapore And The Indian National Army

In 1940, at the age of 26, she left for Singapore, where she met some members of Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army, The Azad Hind Fauj. She established a clinic for the poor, mostly migrant workers from India. During this time, she began to play an active role in the India Independence League. In 1942, when Britain surrendered Singapore to Japan, Lakshmi aided wounded prisoners of war, many of whom were interested in forming an Indian independence army. Several nationalist Indians worked in Singapore during this time, including K. P. Kesava Menon, S. C. Guha, and N. Raghavan, who formed a Council of Action. Still, unfortunately, the Indian National Army received no proper response from the occupying Japanese forces regarding their participation in the war.

Subhash Chandra Bose arrived in Singapore on 2nd July 1943 after dramatically escaping house arrest through Afghanistan and Central Asia to Europe. The India Independence League in Singapore organised a massive rally on 6th July 1943. As Subhash was now known, Netaji made an inspiring speech in which he promised them their freedom in exchange for blood. He also appealed to the Indian community to contribute generously so that the INA could indeed be Indian and not an army of Japanese stooges. He determined that raising and training a regiment of Indian women was the best way to move forward and proposed the same to the India Independence League.

Rani Of Jhansi Regiment

Over a few days, Bose spoke of his determination to raise a women’s regiment that would “fight for Indian Independence and make it complete” at all his public meetings. Lakshmi, hearing this, requested a meeting with him, and soon enough, Dr Lakshmi Swaminathan became Captain Lakshmi, the Commanding officer of The Rani of Jhansi Regiment. This title became her identity for the rest of her life. She went on to join Netaji’s Council of Ministers of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind as its only woman minister. The recruitment of the ‘Ranis’ for the women’s regiment is an inspiring illustration of what the most ordinary women can do when given the slightest opportunities.

When news spread in Singapore, hundreds of young women offered themselves for training and battle. The numbers were so large that many had to be turned away, weeping. Training started with an initial batch of 300 women in Singapore. But by the end, there were more than 1200 recruits. Unlike what most thought, expecting the regiment to be a nursing unit, only 200 were trained as nurses, though all received military training as demanding as that of the male soldiers. The regiment was trained for combat and sent to fight on the Burma front.

Wartime Experiences and Arrest

The Indian National Army (INA) marched to Burma with the Japanese army in December 1944, but by March 1945, the tide of war was turning against them. The INA leadership decided to beat a retreat before they could enter Imphal. Lakshmi was arrested in July 1945 and kept under house arrest in the jungles of Burma until March 1946. Many British Army officers stationed in Rangoon were Indians and were either friends of Lakshmi’s family or extremely sympathetic towards her. When she addressed a public meeting commemorating the anniversary of the formation of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind on 21st October, the event received comprehensive coverage, much to the distaste of the then British rulers; hence, orders were issued for Lakshmi to be transferred to Kalaw in the interior. The British arrested Captain Lakshmi in Burma from May 1945 till March 1946, after which she was sent to India; this was when the INA trials in Delhi heightened popular discontent with and hastened the end of colonial rule.

In the world outside, the Constitution Assembly began its sessions in Delhi. Her mother, Ammu Swaminathan, then elected member from Dindigul and several others, pressed for her early release. Finally, in August 1946, the Red Fort trial was over. The accused, who were sentenced to hanging, were given royal pardons because of popular pressure.

Lakshmi was brought to Calcutta from Rangoon by plane and set free at Dum Dum airport. Not a penny in her pocket, she took a taxi and told the driver that her brother would pay the fare as she did have her younger brother Subram’s address in the city. The driver, recognising her, said with delight, ‘I will drive you around anywhere you like for as long as you like as my guest!’ On reaching Subram’s flat, she found it locked. Her sister-in-law had left for Lahore to have a baby, and Subram was on tour. After perhaps a few hours, she was discovered by Aurobindo Bose, a relative of Netaji, who rushed sitting on the steps of Subram’s flat, looking quite desperate. She learned afterwards that her mother had been going to the airport daily for the past ten days with her son, hoping to receive Lakshmi, giving up the evening before and returning to Delhi.

Post-Independence Life

Lakshmi married Colonel Prem Kumar Sehgal in March 1947 in Lahore and settled in Kanpur. Even after her marriage, she continued practising medicine and aided the refugees who arrived in large numbers following the Partition of India. They had two daughters: Subhashini Ali and Anisa Puri.

One of the founding members of the All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) in 1981, Captain Lakshmi led many activities and campaigns. After the Bhopal gas tragedy, she was one of the first to move forward with her medical team in December 1984. She worked towards restoring peace in Kanpur following the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. Even when she was 92, if one were to look for her, they would first and foremost go to her clinic, such was her dedication. In 2002, four leftist parties – the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Revolutionary Socialist Party, and the All India Forward Bloc – nominated Captain Lakshmi as a candidate in the presidential elections. She was the sole opponent of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who emerged victorious. She was the first woman nominated as a presidential candidate in India!

In 1998, for her selfless services in pre- and post-independent India, Sehgal was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by Indian President K. R. Narayanan. Lakshmi Sehgal wrote her autobiography titled A Revolutionary Life: Memoirs of a Political Activist. She wrote about her time spent with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and other members of the Indian National Army.

Captain Lakshmi suffered a cardiac arrest in a private hospital on 19th July 2012 and died on 23rd July 2012 at the age of 97 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Lakshmi Sehgal was survived by her daughters, Subhashini Ali and Anisa Puri; her grandchildren, Shaad Ali, Neha, and Nishant Puri; and her sister, Mrinalini Sarabhai. Her body was donated to Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Kanpur Medical College for medical research as per her wish. Her eyes would give vision to a visually impaired person, and her body would still help save lives. Even in death, she was a doctor.

LoP Edappadi Palaniswami Accuses DMK Of Pressuring Industries To Sponsor Chennai Formula 4 Race

AIADMK general secretary and Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu, Edappadi Palaniswami, has accused the DMK government of pressuring industries to sponsor the upcoming Formula 4 car race scheduled for August 2024 in Chennai.

The Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority is set to host Chennai’s inaugural night Formula Four race. Initially planned for 9th and 10th December 2023 on the Theevuthidal outskirts, legal challenges sought to stay the race within Chennai city limits. Critics argued that the state government shouldn’t allocate 40 crore rupees to a private race lacking public benefit. Concerns about potential disruptions to a nearby government hospital and traffic were also raised. Postponed by Cyclone Michaung’s heavy rains in December, the alleged rescheduled race gained military clearance for June onward.

The upcoming Formula 4 event is expected to be held at Anna Road, Chennai, starting from the island chain through Black Stop Road and Anna Road, but it hasn’t been officially announced yet. Concurrently, AIADMK’s Edappadi Palaniswami criticized the DMK for allegedly coercing industrial sponsors involved in the race.

Edappadi Palaniswami, via his official X account, stated, “After writing an affidavit in the Madras High Court that they will not hold Formula Car Races in Chennai for two years, last week the Additional Chief Secretary of Youth Welfare and Sports Department has written an open letter to car companies in Tamil Nadu asking for ‘sponsorship’ to hold Formula Car Races in Chennai city.”

“According to reports, the sports department has also asked all the industries to provide the necessary funds either for the development of the racetrack or for the development of the infrastructure or sponsor through advertisement for holding specific events, the sponsor has been asked by the news. Various industry organizations are outraged by this compulsion of the DMK government,” he added.

“Already small and micro industries, ginning mills, spinning mills and other industries have been severely affected in Tamil Nadu, and the industry has been paralyzed due to the increased electricity tariff thrice after the DMK took over the government. It is reprehensible that the DMK government is using its power to insist on sponsoring the Formula Car race,” he added.

MP High Court Criticizes Five-Decade Ban On Government Employees Joining RSS

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on 25 July 2024 criticized the Union government for taking more than five decades to lift a ban that prevented government employees from joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which the judge observed as an internationally renowned organization.

The court’s remarks came while disposing of a writ petition filed by Purushottam Gupta, a retired Central government employee, who challenged the ban in September 2023. The court remarked that the government’s prolonged delay had unjustly diminished the aspirations of many central government employees who wished to serve their country through the RSS.

58-Year Ban Lifted

A bench comprising Justices Sushruta Arvind Dharmadhikari and Gajendra Singh disposed of Gupta’s petition following the Union government’s recent decision to lift the 58-year ban. The ban, instituted in 1966, was removed through an office memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on 9 July 2024.

Court’s Observations

A bench comprising Justices Sushruta Arvind Dharmadhikari and Gajendra Singh highlighted the undue delay in acknowledging the mistake of banning government servants from associating with the RSS. “It took almost five decades for the Central Government to realize its mistake; to acknowledge that an internationally renowned organization like RSS was wrongly placed amongst the banned organizations of the country and that its removal therefrom is quintessential,” stated the court.

The court further chose to address the broader implications of the case. The judges questioned the original rationale behind the ban, asking what evidence had led to the classification of the RSS as a communal or anti-secular organization in the 1960s and 70s. The court also highlighted the absence of any substantial reply from the Union government regarding the basis for the ban.

“Ideally, we would have disposed of the writ petition as having rendered infructuous and academic, post the filing of the affidavit dated July 10, 2024. However, since the issues raised in the petition have national ramifications, especially pertaining to one of the largest voluntary non-governmental organizations, viz. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, therefore before parting with the matter, this Court finds condign to make certain observations,” the court said.

In his petition, Gupta had challenged the constitutional validity and legality of various provisions of the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, which enforced the ban. The High Court, while recognizing the lifting of the ban, still chose to address the broader implications of the issue.

In its ruling, the court directed the DoPT and the Ministry of Home Affairs to display the 9 July 2024 order prominently on their official websites and transmit the information to all government departments and undertakings within 15 days.

“The discretion to classify any organization as a ‘don’t join’ organization for Central government employees must therefore be clearly informed by rules of reason, fair play, and justice, not according to subjective opinions of those in power,” emphasized the court. It further added that such decisions should be guided by law, not by “humour or preconceived prejudice against such nationally and internationally famed organization.”

The petitioner, Gupta, who retired from the Central Warehousing Corporation in 2022, expressed satisfaction with the decision. “I am happy with the Centre’s decision to lift the ban on the participation of government employees in Sangh activities. It will now become easier for thousands of people like me to join the RSS,” he said to PTI.

TN BJP Chief Annamalai Slams DMK For Showing Favoritism By Appointing Hasan Mohammed Jinnah As Director Of Prosecution Department

The Tamil Nadu government has recently appointed Hasan Mohammed Jinnah, the Chief Public Prosecutor, as the Director of the Prosecution Department. Jinnah, known for his proximity to Chief Minister MK Stalin, previously held roles such as Deputy Secretary of the DMK Youth Wing before assuming the position of Chief Public Prosecutor under the current administration. This appointment has sparked criticism from the Tamil Nadu BJP president, Annamalai, who argues that it reflects favoritism rather than meritocracy.

Annamalai point out that despite several qualified senior advocates in Tamil Nadu eligible for positions like Joint or Deputy Directors within the Department, the appointment of Jinnah suggests misuse of authority by the ruling DMK government due to his personal connections. Concerns have been raised about the implications of placing someone closely associated with the ruling party in charge of overseeing criminal cases in the state, especially amid rising concerns about law and order.

The appointment has drawn attention to Jinnah’s longstanding association with the DMK and its leaders, dating back to their time together in the DMK’s youth wing. Jinnah has held significant responsibilities within the party and government, including serving as a key aide during Stalin’s tenure as Deputy Chief Minister. Despite losing a bid for a legislative seat in 2011, Jinnah continued to hold influential roles within the DMK and eventually assumed the role of Chief Public Prosecutor.

In his official X account, Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai criticized the appointment by stating that, “Hasan Mohammed Jinnah, who is close to Chief Minister @mkstalin, has been appointed as Director of Criminal Prosecution Department of Tamil Nadu Government. Before the DMK came to power, he was the Deputy Secretary of the DMK Youth wing, and after the DMK came to power, he was appointed as the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Tamil Nadu Government. Now after three years he has been appointed as the director of the department.”

For the past six months, Chief Minister Stalin has not appointed anyone for the post of Director of Criminal Prosecution Department of the Tamil Nadu Government, so that Hasan Mohammed Jinnah can be seated in this post. It is a complete abuse of power by the DMK that the government has given the post of chief of the crime prosecution department only because they are close, even though there are many talented senior lawyers in Tamil Nadu who are qualified as joint/deputy directors of the crime department,” he added.

“The appointment of a person who was DMK Youth Wing Deputy Secretary until three years ago given responsibility of dealing with all the criminal cases in the state while the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu is in a dire situation and the DMK’s direct involvement in many crimes is becoming clear raises questions about the DMK’s intentions. If Chief Minister Stalin wants to give recognition to those close to him, he can give important posts in his party. Instead, I strongly condemn such abuse of power in responsible government positions,” He further added.

Tirupur, TN: Muslim Woman Served Triple Talaq Within 28 Days Of Marriage; Police Refuse To Take Action Citing Lack Of Knowledge

In a troubling development in Tamil Nadu, Nasreen Fathima, a Muslim woman, has been served a Triple Talaq notice by her husband, Khader Riyaz, in Turupur. Despite the existence of The Muslim Women’s (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act of 2019, where the police declined to file a case, citing unfamiliarity with the Triple Talaq law.

Nasreen Fathima, aged 31 and from Palani, Dindigul district, married Khader Riyaz of Tirupur in August 2022. Within days, issues arose in their marriage, leading to mistreatment by Khader Riyaz’s family and demands for a dowry of several lakhs in gold. Subsequently, Nasreen was sent back to her family in September 2022.

Subsequently, Nasreen’s family had filed a dowry complaint against Khader Riyaz at the All-Women’s Police station in Palani but faced disappointment as no action was taken. They pursued legal avenues, resulting in an FIR being filed against Khader Riyaz and a court order for a police raid on his residence to recover the 32-sovereign gold jewelry Nasreen had brought into the marriage. Shockingly, all the jewelry was found missing during the raid.

In this backdrop, Khader Riyaz has issued the notice and also sent a minimal alimony of ₹1500 to Nasreen for her 28-days stay with him from August to September 2022. Expressing their frustration, Nasreen’s brother stated multiple complaints were lodged with the Women’s Commission and Human Rights Commission without response. The Deputy Superintendent of Police assured the family he would review the Triple Talaq law online but no action has followed. Media coverage of the Triple Talaq issue has been scant, with only a few outlets reporting on Nasreen’s case despite a press interview on 6 July 2024 that drew limited attention.

The family of Nasreen Fathima has brought this matter to the chief minister’s attention, seeking justice. However, they received a disappointing response indicating no immediate action could be taken, despite the legal protections in place against Triple Talaq. Unfortunately, this incident has received limited media coverage, further complicating efforts to address it.

Dindigul triple talaq crime

The Hindu Munnani criticized the police for their inaction in a social media post, calling for Khader Riyaz to be prosecuted under the Triple Talaq law, underscoring the urgency of addressing such cases.

The state government’s inaction suggests reluctance, possibly due to concerns about backlash from Muslim organizations, given their historical opposition to the Triple Talaq bill. This raises doubts about the government’s commitment to women’s rights and equality. Additionally, the behavior of the Tamil Nadu police has been criticized for prioritizing action against social media dissent while neglecting rising crime rates and crucial issues like Triple Talaq, undermining public trust.

Overall, the lack of media coverage and government response highlight the need for more proactive measures to address Triple Talaq cases and uphold justice for affected women. Until there is genuine commitment and action from the government, Muslim women facing such injustices are unlikely to receive the justice they deserve.

ADMK Leader Jayakumar Shares Pictures Of Alleged Ganja Use By Youth On Chennai Metro, Asks If CM Stalin Will Focus On Law & Order At Least Now?

A viral photo of a young man allegedly using ganja on a crowded Chennai Metro train has ignited a heated debate over drug control and law enforcement in the state. Opposition parties have long accused the Tamil Nadu government of failing to curb the spread of drugs, including ganja, which they claim are being sold even in petty shops.

In response, the Tamil Nadu government has maintained that it is taking stringent measures against drug peddlers and users. Officials have emphasized that serious action is being taken by the police to control the drug issue in the state.

The controversy intensified when former AIADMK leader D. Jayakumar posted pictures of a youth allegedly using ganja on the metro on his X account. In his post, Jayakumar criticized Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, questioning the efficacy of his administration’s efforts to combat drug abuse. He wrote, “A youth used ganja on a crowded metro train in Chennai. Trafficking of prohibited drugs in Tamil Nadu is increasing and drug addicts are challenging law and order. Will Stalin, who only does empty advertisements like Ganja Hunt 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, focus on law and order from now on?”
