Financial Dispute Turns Violent At Madurai CSI Church; Validates HC Push For Statutory Body For Christian Institution Regulation

Financial Dispute Turns Violent At Madurai CSI Church; Validates HC Push For Statutory Body For Christian Institution Regulation

A clash erupted between two groups at a church in Madurai over disputes concerning the church’s management and financial records, and a case has been filed against three individuals in connection with the conflict.

The incident occurred during a special prayer service held 4 November 2024, morning at the CSI Church in Keelavasal, Madurai district, where over 100 people gathered for the meeting led by Pastor Raja Stalin.

During the service, a heated argument broke out between members of the old and new church administrations. The dispute centered on issues regarding the church’s bankruptcy, income, and expenditure accounts. Tensions escalated into a physical altercation.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Vilakkuthoon police arrived at the scene to investigate.

Abraham, a member of the pastor’s group, filed a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a case against three individuals, including Duraisingham. In response, Duraisingham, Raja Selvam, and Joseph Vasudevan, representing the opposing group, also lodged a formal complaint against the pastor’s side.

The police are continuing their investigation, and according to their statement, “The case is still pending in court due to an ongoing dispute between the two factions over the administration of the CSI Church. The conflict appears to have escalated because Pastor Raja Stalin is being accused of partisanship. We are continuing to look into the matter.”

A video capturing the altercation has since gone viral on social media, further drawing attention to the church’s internal conflict.

Following the viral video of a church clash in Madurai, there has been growing public demand for greater accountability in Christian institutions, in line with a recent suggestion by the Madras High Court. The court has urged the Union and Tamil Nadu governments to consider establishing a statutory board, similar to the Waqf Board, to oversee the assets, funds, and entities such as hospitals and schools run by Christian organizations.

Justice N. Sathish Kumar, in his ruling, noted that while charitable endowments of Hindus and Muslims are subject to statutory oversight, no such regulation exists for Christian institutions. He pointed out that current scrutiny is limited to legal suits under Section 92 of the Code of Civil Procedure, which deals with the management of charitable trusts. Emphasizing the need for a permanent solution, Justice Sathish Kumar argued that Christian institutions, which perform vital public functions, require better protection and regulation to ensure their financial and administrative stability. He also highlighted the frequent internal disputes within churches that drain resources and hinder proper functioning.

The court has directed both the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Tamil Nadu’s Chief Secretary to file reports on the issue.

We Dravidians Admin Who “Went To Aizwal On Kuki Money” Had Met Mizoram CM Who Called For “Chin-Kuki-Zo Nationhood” Potentially Undermining Indian Sovereignty

We Dravidians Admin Who "Went To Aizwal On Kuki Money" Had Met Mizoram CM Who Called For "Chin-Kuki-Zo Nationhood" Potentially Undermining Indian Sovereignty

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma sparked controversy following the viral spread of a speech transcript from his recent US visit, where he met with the Chin community in Indianapolis. The transcript, first highlighted by activist Savio Rodrigues in Goa Chronicle, revealed Lalduhoma’s appeal for unity among the Zo (Chin-Kuki-Mizo) people across Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India based on ethnic and religious ties. His remarks come at a time of heightened ethnic tension between the Meitei and Kuki communities in neighboring Manipur.

In his address, Lalduhoma expressed concerns that religion could be a source of division rather than unity. He noted, “There is a real danger of our religion becoming a source of disunity and division, rather than a united, strong, and impenetrable fortress.” Lamenting the lack of a united Church of Northeast India, he praised efforts by the Chin and Myanmar Relief Committees of Mizoram, which support Kuki-Zo refugees.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for solidarity among Zo groups, referencing multiple factions within the Chin Hills and encouraging cooperation. He commended efforts by the Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO) and the Chin Unity Forum, both working toward Zo unity. His message highlighted the ambition for a united “nationhood,” transcending the borders that divide the Zo people across three countries.

He also said, “It’s just like a two-way traffic. As far as we are concerned, we shall never ever accept the division of our people into 3 countries. This will never be acceptable. The boundaries are imposed boundaries by the British government. In that committee, we are never represented, we are never consulted. Therefore, it is an imposed boundary and will never accept it. We will never accept construction of a border fencing between us.”

What is interesting is that the same Mizoram CM met with one of the admins of the Dravidianist separatist handle We Dravidians – Shaikh Abid Hasan.

https://twitter.com/KantInEast/status/1843165636056461407

During his visit, Hasan reportedly met with Lalduhoma in January 2024, a leader of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and current Mizoram Chief Minister, who has advocated for extraterritorial Kuki-Zo unity. Hasan also claimed to have met a Christian nationalist from the Mizo National Front (MNF) who could potentially lead Mizoram in the future.

In October 2024, we reported on the 4 admins of the rabid secessionist handle We Dravidians. One of them turned out to be a Bengali Muslim. When exposed, he pretended to not know who We Dravidians were and tried to cut off ties with the group.

However, he forgot to remove the reference on his bio.

Hasan, a supporter of the radical group Indian Secular Front (ISF), admitted during a Twitter Space to having traveled to Aizawl, Mizoram’s capital, with financial backing from Kuki supporters, stating, “I went to Aizawl on Kuki money, okay?”

Hasan also claimed that he met Mizo National Front people and allegedly defamed Meities.

Notably, Hasan has openly expressed hostility toward the Meitei community in Manipur, previously calling for their ethnic elimination. He warned in a tweet, “Believe me, the day my party forms Govt at the centre and in Manipur, we will completely annihilate you.”

Hasan further threatened to drive Meiteis out of their homeland, suggesting Indians should “buy all Meitei properties” or even label Meiteis as “enemies of India,” forcing them to relocate to Burma.

He attempted to rally opposition against the Indian government by alleging its support for genocide in Myanmar, aiming to further stigmatize Meiteis and align with Kuki-Zo extremist narratives.

Hasina’s Warning

Following Lalduhoma’s Indianapolis speech, Hasina’s statements have gained new relevance. The former Prime Minister had suggested that Western influence, potentially aligned with church groups in the United States, could be backing aspirations for a “Zo” homeland. This proposed homeland, commonly called “Zoram,” would cover areas of Bangladesh, Myanmar’s Chin State, and India’s Mizoram and Manipur states, where the Chin-Kuki-Zo people predominantly reside. The push for this unified state has reportedly garnered support from various church organizations in the U.S. and is being championed by the Zo Reunification Organization (ZRO) in Mizoram, which has political backing from local parties like the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF).

The Chin-Kuki-Zo tribes’ movement, which has been gaining momentum, is not without militarized factions. Groups such as the Chin National Army (CNA) in Myanmar, the Kuki National Front (KNF) in India, and other affiliated factions have been actively seeking autonomy, with violent actions occurring in their respective regions. Lalduhoma’s speech in the U.S. has fueled apprehensions that Western powers could be taking advantage of these separatist sentiments to push for broader geopolitical interests.

Hasina’s revelation about alleged foreign intentions to establish a Christian state underscores existing concerns about sovereignty and national integrity. Her statement that a U.S. official had sought permission for an American air base on Bangladesh’s St. Martin’s Island in exchange for Western support in her administration indicates deeper regional interests. Although she rejected the offer, Hasina’s warnings highlight the broader strategy that some analysts suggest underpins Lalduhoma’s call for a unified Chin-Kuki-Zo nation.

The Northeast region of India, where Mizoram and Manipur are located, has long been a hotspot of ethnic diversity and political fragility. Observers fear that Lalduhoma’s Indianapolis speech, with its appeal for a Christian-majority state, might resonate with existing ethnic militancy and lead to intensified demands for autonomy. Combined with Hasina’s claims of Western-backed agendas, this narrative points to a strategic interest that could have ramifications for India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh alike.

The coincidence of Lalduhoma’s call for unity among the Chin-Kuki-Zo people, Hasina’s warnings about Western ambitions to redraw borders and this revelation of the meeting with Mizo CM are extremely concerning.

17-Year-Old SC Boy Brutally Attacked, House Ransacked By Dominant Caste (MBC) Assailant In Melapattam For Questioning Rash Driving

17-Year-Old SC Boy Brutally Attacked, House Ransacked By Dominant Caste (MBC) Assailant In Melapattam For Questioning Rash Driving.

In a disturbing incident reminiscent of the caste violence in Nanguneri, a 17-year-old boy from a Scheduled Caste was viciously assaulted by a group from a dominant caste with a sickle inside his home in Melapattam village, near Tirunelveli, on 4 November 2024.

The assault occurred after the boy confronted the gang members about their reckless driving near his residence.

According to a TNIE report, the boy lives with his older brother and parents in Melapattam. His older brother is a third-year college student, while he is in his second year of polytechnic studies. Both parents work and typically return home in the evening.

On the day of the incident, the elder brother had gone to college, leaving the younger boy alone. Around noon, as he was walking nearby, a car sped dangerously close to him, nearly hitting him. He called out to the car’s occupants about their reckless driving, which escalated into a confrontation. A bystander intervened, successfully calming the situation and encouraging both sides to disperse.

However, later that evening, the same group, along with additional members, entered the boy’s home. Taking advantage of his parents’ absence, they attacked him, striking him with a beer bottle and assaulting him with a sickle. They also vandalized items in the house before fleeing. Neighbors quickly took the injured boy to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency ward. His parents rushed to the hospital upon learning of the brutal attack.

When reached for comment, Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan stated that the police were in the process of obtaining a complaint from the boy to file a First Information Report (FIR). Sources indicated that more than five of the assailants involved in the attack have since gone into hiding. This incident echoes a similar caste-related assault that occurred last year in Nanguneri, where a group of students from a dominant caste attacked an SC student and his sister at their home.

Hindustan Times Quotes Hinduphobic “Delhi Woman” Repeatedly, Turns Out To Be “The Wire Journo” Naomi Barton

Hindustan Times Quotes Hinduphobic "Delhi Woman" Repeatedly, Turns Out To Be "The Wire Journo" Naomi Barton

Just around Deepavali, the Hindustan Times shared an article based on a viral post on social media. They quoted aDelhi womanNaomi Barton who was allegedly asked toleave the countryafter making adistresspost on her sick dog’s sleepless nights because of the Deepavali cracker noise.

On her X handle, she wrote Happy Diwali! My dog has a heart condition and has been trembling with anxiety for the last hour. This will be her second night of no sleep. I hope making large explosive noises has given everyone a deep feeling of spiritual fulfillment!

On closer examination, it came to light that Hindustan Times had regularly quoted a Delhi woman who turned out to be the same Naomi. Sometimes the same Naomi would be a comedian, a pop fan, a dog owner, a writer – Naomi who wore many hats!

Who Is Naomi Barton?

Naomi Barton, according to her X bio, works as a Literary Agent at A Suitable Pitch. She has also worked as ajournalist/writerfor The Wire. Here is a look at some of her antics from the past.

Back in 2020, she mocked Hindus for welcoming pups to their homes the Hindu way. She somehow had to bring in Brahmanism, and give a caste marker to the dog as well! She wrote, This is, ostensibly harmless and cute but says a lot about how the entire edifice on which Brahmanism is built is a construct, given how this is now a Hindu Upper Caste… Golden Retriever? Also it is 2020. Get rescued dog, and don’t contribute to awful puppy mills.”

In 2022, she tried to instigate violence against Hindus during the hijab row. She seemed to be urging Muslims to take up arms against Hindus, asserting that if the roles were reversed, Hindus would naturally respond in kind. She offered no evidence to support these absurd claims.

She wrote,If any Muslim community had come together to so much as take a dupatta from a Hindu woman there would be blood in the streets. It is a particularly brutal humiliation that Muslims are forced to watch helplessly at the insult given to Muslim women for fear of retaliation.”

She has previously shown a tendency to use derogatory terms when referring to Hinduism openly.

In April 2022, a netizen Daribha Lyndem, shared her distressing experience at a hospital, where she felt exposed and violated during an ECG procedure when a cleaning staff member entered the trauma ward unannounced. She expressed anger over the lack of privacy, noting,The nurse could have taken me to a private room but she was too lazy. While many sympathized with her, Naomi Barton criticized Daribha forweaponizingher privilege against a man she assumed to be of lower class, suggesting that Daribha was committing violence deliberately against an accident.

Barton recommended the bookConflict is Not Abuse“, framing the incident as a class issue. When asked to reconsider, Barton doubled down, insisting on the relevance of class imbalances. Barton’s response sparked backlash, as critics noted her focus onclass imbalanceminimized Daribha’s traumatic experience, shifting attention away from the lack of privacy and professionalism at the hospital.

Naomi’s entire timeline on her X handle is laced with vitriol aimed at Hindus, driven by a clear agenda. Every word she writes is calculated, and someone at Hindustan Times seems to amplify hermessage continuously“, portraying her asjust another Delhi woman/girl.”

Waqf Land Row: Farmers Will March To Karnataka CM’s Home If Issue Persists, Warns Kumaraswamy

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy has warned the ruling Congress in Karnataka, cautioning that if the Waqf land issue is not resolved soon, farmers may take drastic measures and storm into the homes of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and ministers.

While speaking to the media in Doddanahalli village during a campaign in the Channapatna constituency, Kumaraswamy questioned if the Congress government had integrity. “How long will you keep deceiving people like this? Are you favouring one community while neglecting another? Apologise to the public and resolve this issue, or else it won’t be long before people take matters into their own hands and march to your homes,” he warned. Recently, a Congress MLC said people would enter the Governor’s residence as they did in the residence of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister. Don’t be surprised if the same happens to you. Don’t test the patience of the farmers,” he warned.

Kumaraswamy criticised CM Siddaramaiah’s recent statements, saying, “During my tenure as CM, I never saw any Waqf-related files come before me. Decisions related to Waqf were made even during the tenures of former CMs B.S. Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai. CM Siddaramaiah’s statement on this matter lacks responsibility.” He further clarified, “Neither farmers’ lands, nor the lands of Hindu temples, nor the hills in Ramanagara were given to Waqf during my time. I don’t understand on what basis the CM made such claims. Don’t blame others for your own mistakes. If there was any error on my part, let it be brought before the people,” he challenged Siddaramaiah.

Kumaraswamy argued that if any Waqf-related matters were dealt with during his tenure, Congress leaders were to blame. “The revenue minister at the time was Krishna Byre Gowda, and the Waqf minister is the same as the current one. If they acted without my knowledge, it’s on them, not on me. I have not permitted any illegal actions, nor have I engaged in politics over such issues.” Minister Krishna Byre Gowda holds the Revenue portfolio currently.

He added, “If I am unnecessarily dragged into this issue, I am ready to face it. I will not run away. A Chief Minister should not lie. Although he chants ‘Satyameva Jayate’ like a truth-seeker, he is going around spreading falsehoods every day,” he reacted angrily. Kumaraswamy further urged CM Siddaramaiah to speak with more accountability. He criticised Congress for dividing people along religious and caste lines. “This is the downfall of Congress; even AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge has acknowledged it. Their conduct is leading Congress to ruin,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi Betrayed People Of Wayanad: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Rahul Gandhi Betrayed People Of Wayanad: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Former Minister of State Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday slammed Rahul Gandhi, saying that he betrayed the trust of the people of Wayanad by choosing Raebareli. “Rahul Gandhi betrayed the people of Wayanad. He never said to the voters until the election that he would contest Raebareli too. I would like to know what has he done for the people of Wayanad in the last five years,” said Chandrasekhar while interacting with the media persons.

Chandrasekhar added that the Congress is known only for giving fake assurances and that Congress Wayanad by-polls nominee Priyanka Gandhi should clarify her programmes for the constituency.

“The people of Wayanad wish to know about her plans for Wayanad. Her brother never understood and was not interested in Wayanad. Will she (Priyanka Gandhi) also be like him by being a tourist MP,” asked Chandrasekhar.

After Priyanka addressed a series of meetings in Wayanad, Chandrasekhar arrived in the hilly district to campaign for Navya Haridas, the BJP candidate. “Our candidate will be here 24×7 for the people of Wayanad,” said Chandrasekhar, who gave Congress MP Shashi Tharoor a tough time in the April 26th Lok Sabha polls.

Rahul Gandhi won the 2019 general elections with a margin of 4.60 lakh from Wayanad which came down to 3.64 lakh in the 2024 general elections. Wayanad constituency is spread across seven Assembly constituencies in three districts – Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. Of the seven, four are held by the Congress-led UDF, two by the CPI-M, and one was won by the Left-backed independent legislator PV Anvar, who has now split up with the ruling Left and floated his party.

Acts Of Violence Will Never Weaken India’s Resolve, Affirms PM Modi After Khalistani Attacks On Hindus In Canada

PM Modi Has All The Ingredients To Become Global Peacemaker: Erik Solheim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening strongly condemned the “deliberate attack” on a Hindu temple in Canada, warning that such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. “I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats,” PM Modi posted in a strongly-worded post on X.

“Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law,” he added while strongly batting in support of Indians in Canada.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also issued a statement, saying that it remains “deeply concerned” about the safety and security of its nationals in Canada after the violence unleashed by Khalistani separatists at a Hindu temple in Brampton on Sunday.

“We condemn the acts of violence perpetrated by extremists and separatists at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Ontario yesterday,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal while calling on the Justin Trudeau-led Canadian government to ensure that all places of worship are protected from such attacks.

“We also expect that those indulging in violence will be prosecuted. We remain deeply concerned about the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada. The outreach of our Consular officers to provide services to Indians and Canadian citizens alike will not be deterred by intimidation, harassment and violence,” he mentioned. Hours after Sunday’s attacks, the High Commission of India in Ottawa too had condemned the violent disruptions orchestrated by anti-India elements outside the consular camp in Brampton. “It is deeply disappointing to see such disruptions being allowed for routine consular work being organised by our Consulates with the fullest cooperation of local co-organisers. “We also remain very concerned for the safety of applicants, including Indian nationals, on whose demand such events are organised in the first place. Despite these efforts by anti-India elements, our Consulate was able to issue more than 1,000 life certificates to the Indian and Canadian applicants…” the HCI said in a statement, adding that there were attempts made to disrupt similar camps held at Vancouver and Surrey on November 2 and 3.

On Sunday evening, Canada time, Khalistani extremists attacked the Hindu-Canadian devotees inside the premises of the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, the videos of which have gone viral on social media and drawn worldwide condemnation, including from several leaders in Canada. The attacks on Hindus have grown at an alarming rate under the Canadian government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and underscore a distressing trend of religious intolerance prevailing in the country. Following the violent attacks, the Canadian National Council of Hindus (CNCH) and Hindu Federation, along with temple leaders and several Hindu advocacy groups, issued a directive stating that Hindu temples and institutions across Canada will no longer permit politicians to use temple facilities for political purposes unless they demonstrate “concrete efforts” to address the serious issue of growing Khalistani extremism in the country.

The CNCH stated that the violent Brampton attack by pro-Khalistani protestors has raised serious concerns about the safety of Canada’s Hindu community. “The protestors reportedly gathered at the temple’s main entrance, forcibly entered the premises, and physically assaulted temple members and visitors, leaving the community shaken and demanding action,” it said in a statement issued on Monday, India time. It mentioned that Hindu Canadians have faced an increasing wave of violence in recent years and, despite repeated calls from community leaders for stronger security measures to protect Hindu places of worship, political leaders have failed to take substantial steps to address the growing hostility.

“Hindu temples and institutions across Canada will no longer permit politicians to use temple facilities for political purposes. Politicians, regardless of party affiliation, may continue to visit as devotees, but they will no longer have access to temple platforms until they demonstrate concrete efforts to address the issue of Khalistani extremism. This directive underscores the Hindu community’s commitment to safeguarding their sacred spaces and reinforces their demand for action to ensure the protection and dignity of all Canadians,” it added.

Trudeau’s Allegations Against India Threaten Decades-Long Indo-Canadian Relations: Amarinder Singh

Trudeau's Allegations Against India Threaten Decades-Long Indo-Canadian Relations: Amarinder Singh

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, in a hard-hitting statement on Monday, slammed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over the current India-Canada diplomatic row, while accusing him of turning a blind eye towards the issue of Sikh extremism and also patronising individuals having extremist tendencies.

Here is the full statement posted on X by the BJP leader.

It is not often that countries, friends for decades, should end up as have Canada and India today. The assassination of a person of extreme separatist views Hardeep Singh Nijjar, led to the prime minister of Canada Justin Trudeau pointing his finger, in a parliamentary statement, towards India as being responsible for this act. He later stated that he didn’t have concrete evidence, but that fingers pointed in that direction. This itself is a violation of the sanctity of parliament where a Prime Ministerial statement is taken as “the truth and nothing but the truth”.

Are electoral compulsions more important than decades old relationships, national commitments and age old Parliamentary traditions? For Trudeau, it seems not. Some years ago when I was Chief Minister of Punjab, I was aware of Canada’s approach to Sikh extremism being prevalent in that country, which was fast growing to which Trudeau not only turned a blind eye, but also patronized such people to enhance his political base. He sent his defense minister a Sikh, to Punjab, I refused to meet him, as he himself was an active member of the World Sikh Organization, at that time the parent body of the Khalistani movement, which was then presided over by none other than his father. Some months later, Trudeau visited Punjab and refused to meet me until the then External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj told him that if he did not meet the Chief Minister, he could not visit the State.

We met in Amritsar, He was accompanied by his Defence Minister Sajjan, I presume an attempt to get one up on me! I told him in no uncertain terms of Punjab’s problems with Canada. It had become a haven of the Khalistani separatist movement, which no Punjabi wanted, and also of gun running, drugs and gangsters. I handed him a list of over twenty leading individuals who were actively involved in this movement, some were also members of his cabinet, one of whom was sitting beside him. I was promised that he would look into these grievances.

On the contrary, since our meeting these nefarious activities have grown. The Kanishka bombing is now out of his mind and so are the other acts that continue to destabilize Punjab. Our economy continues to stagnate as Industry always enters when it visualizes peace and stability. On the contrary, today, gangsters are prevalent, weapons are freely used. Agriculture is becoming non profitable regardless of the increase in the States overall production, as input prices of fertilizers, oil and other essentials are becoming prohibitive, the minimum support price increases marginally on an annual basis.

The reason is obvious! The purchase by the FCI is meant for food security, and an affordable price that the under-privileged of the country can afford. If the MSP goes up so does the consumer price to the millions of our poor. While the Punjab farmer who sweats his guts out to produce what India needs, wants more for his crop, so does the Union Government wants to rationalize what it must pay. India would need substantial financial resources to guarantee an MSP. Can it afford it? What then is the option – Industrialisation for one, and the right environment in Punjab to draw in industry. Some countries that permit a separatist movement to exist in their jurisdiction are keeping such movements in check, but in the case of Canada, a government that patronizes a terrorist or a separatist movement for political gain, is irresponsible and to a point criminal.

There is a strong perception that Trudeau is using Punjabis to sustain his government, without realizing the decline in his affinity with them in his own country and even in India. Fortunately Trudeau’s Canada is the singular example as of date. To turn the spotlight away from himself, his severing of diplomatic ties by initially accusing our security agencies of engineering Nijjar’s assassination, then naming officers who he claims were responsible.

He then comes to accuse our National Security Advisor and finally, he now points his finger at India’s Minister of Home Affairs Mr Amit Shah! Time, they say, is a healer. In Trudeau’s case time will tell next year when he goes to the polls. From what one hears his luck has run out and these are his last few months. Let us hope that those media reports are true. We need better relations with Canada and one ambitious man shouldn’t be able to rock a stable friendship that has existed for decades. Punjab and India as a whole could then look towards a bright and stable future.

PMK Urges Withdrawal Of TN Land Consolidation Act

PMK Urges Withdrawal Of TN Land Consolidation Act

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) state president and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has called on the Tamil Nadu government to suspend the Tamil Nadu Land Consolidation (for Special Projects) Act, 2023 and withdraw it in the next Assembly session.

The PMK leader noted that the Act had come into effect on October 18, despite strong opposition from political parties, including PMK, and several farmers’ associations. Ramadoss claimed that the Act favours private companies rather than public welfare, describing its implementation as “condemnable.” “The Tamil Nadu Land Consolidation (for Special Projects) Act, 2023, was implemented even after opposition from PMK and numerous farmers’ organisations,” he said.

He added that the Act appears to prioritise the interests of private companies, which is unacceptable. Ramadoss also highlighted that the state government passed the bill on April 21, 2023, allowing land acquisition for special projects without any debate in the assembly. “As per the Act, water bodies can be acquired for infrastructure, commerce, industrial, and agricultural projects by providing alternative land, which would then be handed over to private entities. The number and extent of water bodies are already on the decline,” he explained. The former Union Minister further pointed out that Tamil Nadu once had 41,127 lakes with a combined storage capacity of 347 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet), a volume greater than that of the state’s large dams.

However, he lamented that only about 27,000 lakes remain now. Since the DMK government took office, he argued, no new projects have been implemented to expand irrigated areas, urging the government to at least safeguard existing water bodies. Ramadoss added that the Tamil Nadu government has amassed a land bank of 45,000 acres through the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT). He questioned the necessity of a law permitting land consolidation for projects exceeding 100 acres.

He also criticised the state government’s contradictory actions: on one hand, evicting residents near water bodies, and on the other, handing over these same water bodies to private companies. Ramadoss also called for an increase in irrigated areas and the creation of new water bodies. The Special Projects Act permits project proponents to transfer land to a different location as a substitute if the designated project site contains water bodies or streams. Moreover, if a project is classified as a “Special Project,” it may be implemented even on water bodies.

Do Not Let Waqf Officials Step On Your Land: Karnataka BJP To Farmers

Do Not Let Waqf Officials Step On Your Land: Karnataka BJP To Farmers

Karnataka BJP on Monday asked the state farmers not to allow the Waqf officials to step on their land while also urging them to inform the party if they receive any notices.

“If farmers receive a notice, they should immediately inform BJP leaders. We will always fight for farmers. The Congress government had announced Rs 10,000 crore for Muslims. Congress will do anything to win their votes. Now, through Waqf, Congress is grabbing farmers’ land,” said Karnataka LoP R Ashoka while addressing a protest organised by BJP against the Waqf Board.

Referring to past incidents, Ashoka criticised Siddaramaiah for allegedly withdrawing cases against Muslim rioters who attacked a police station. He accused Siddaramaiah of appeasement, saying, “Siddaramaiah has tarnished the image of the state just for votes.” He also warned that even if Waqf Board notices are withdrawn, the issue will not be resolved while urging people to check their land records, claiming that even Ganesh temples in Kolar are being categorised under Waqf. “Under no circumstances will we allow Hindu lands to be taken by Waqf. We will protect farmers’ land even at the cost of our lives,” he said. He also demanded a CBI investigation into any land grab case by Waqf while also accusing Siddaramaiah of “betraying the farmers who feed people” by allowing Waqf Board encroachment.

He claimed that Minister Zameer Ahmad Khan instructed officials to incorporate all lands into the Waqf Board’s purview and evict farmers. He alleged that some Waqf Board leaders have even claimed the Vidhana Soudha and Parliament as their own, yet neither ministers nor the Chief Minister has condemned these statements. Ashoka also slammed Siddaramaiah’s welfare scheme, “Shaadi Bhagya,” benefiting only Muslims, and disregarded other communities. “They are trying to turn the state into a mini-Pakistan. Karnataka is the land built by Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, and we will not allow it to become Pakistan,” he declared.

He stated that those who want Sharia law should move to Pakistan. Ashoka likened the Waqf Board to a “fire demon” now in Karnataka, claiming it is being fed and nurtured by Siddaramaiah. He also warned that “Land Jihad” has replaced “Love Jihad” and accused the state of becoming a sleeper cell for extremists. He urged the government to imprison officials issuing notices for Waqf-related land claims.
