Kerala: Communist Organizations Target Youth Programs – NCC Camp Stormed, Cadets Harassed, Army Officer Assaulted, Minor Taken From Camp Without Consent For Red Volunteer March

Communists Target Youth Programs - NCC Camp Stormed, Cadets Harassed, Army Officer Assaulted, Minor Taken From Camp Without Consent For Red Volunteer March

Tensions flared at an NCC camp held at KMM College, Thrikkakara, around 24 December 2024, as allegations surfaced against Kerala SFI leader Bhagyalakshmi for inappropriate conduct and harassment of cadets, including female participants. The accusations arose following a heated altercation involving Bhagyalakshmi, an SFI district secretariat member, and the cadets.

According to the cadets, Bhagyalakshmi, accompanied by a group of individuals, allegedly trespassed into the Kerala NCC camp, searched their barracks, and made inappropriate remarks. One female cadet reported that Bhagyalakshmi questioned them with sexual undertones, asking, “Are you here to offer yourselves to the officers?” The remarks have caused outrage among the cadets, who expressed pride in their roles as NCC participants and condemned the alleged behavior.

Bhagyalakshmi, however, has denied the allegations, claiming that her actions were misunderstood. She stated that her visit to the camp was prompted by reports of misconduct involving higher officials. “I did not make any inappropriate remarks. As a woman, I am fully aware of the sensitivities involved and acted responsibly,” she said.

The incident reportedly occurred after several cadets were admitted to a local hospital due to suspected food poisoning. Bhagyalakshmi and her team allegedly forced their way into the camp, citing concerns over the cadets’ well-being and accusing officials of negligence.

While video footage of the altercation has been circulated, opinions remain divided. The footage shows a confrontation between Bhagyalakshmi’s group and camp officials, with cadets visibly distressed. Some cadets claimed that the intruders inspected their rooms without permission and behaved aggressively.

The controversy has escalated further as both parties continue to present conflicting narratives. Army personnel at the camp have criticized the lack of accountability and called for a formal investigation. Bhagyalakshmi maintains her innocence, asserting that her actions were in the cadets’ interest.

Additionally, CPM workers allegedly attacked Army officers during an NCC camp at KMM College in Thrikkakara. The incident occurred on the night of 23 December 2024, when a group of CPM-affiliated individuals reportedly entered the camp premises and assaulted Lieutenant Colonel Karnail Singh, the camp commandant. Despite an FIR being registered, no action has been taken by the police so far, prompting criticism from the victimized Army personnel.

The incident allegedly began after complaints of food poisoning were reported at the NCC camp. Several students experiencing discomfort were admitted to Kalamassery Medical College. Following this, a group of CPM workers reportedly stormed the camp, assaulting students and subjecting female cadets to harassment. Lieutenant Colonel Karnail Singh’s father later shared details of the attack on social media, revealing that his son, in full uniform, was assaulted while on duty.

In connection with the incident, the police registered an FIR against Bhagyalakshmi, an SFI leader and DYFI district committee member, along with others. Despite this, the accused remain at large, and the Army officers allege that the police have failed to take further steps. The officers also claim that the food poisoning incident was fabricated by some students seeking to leave the camp early for Christmas celebrations.

Despite the FIR being filed promptly on December 24, no arrests have been made, sparking further outrage among the Army personnel, who have demanded justice and immediate action from the authorities.

In yet another incident, Hari Kumar of Enikkara lodged a police complaint on 24 December 2024 after his son was taken from an NSS camp to participate in the CPM district meet’s Red Volunteer March without his consent. Kumar discovered the incident during a scheduled visit to the camp. He stated that his neighbor, Vishnu, initially called requesting the boy’s participation, which Kumar declined. Vishnu later collected the boy’s uniform under false pretenses, took him from the camp, and provided him with lunch before the march. Despite being a CPM supporter, Kumar emphasized his prior objection and plans further complaints to the child rights commission and education minister.

These recent incidents in Kerala highlight a concerning pattern of Communist organizations’ interference with youth and student programmes. Additionally, no action is taken despite complaints and FIRs being filed.

Odisha Farmer Expresses Gratitude To PM Modi After Being Mentioned In ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Odisha Farmer Expresses Gratitude To PM Modi After Being Mentioned In 'Mann Ki Baat'

Krishna Chandra Nag, a farmer from the Golamunda block in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for mentioning his efforts towards self-reliance in the PM’s monthly programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday.

Krishna Chandra, who uses modern agricultural techniques, grows large quantities of tomatoes and other vegetables, employing over 100 farmers.

PM Modi recognised his achievements during the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme and lauded his efforts in creating employment. Along with other farmers in the region, Krishna Chandra has formed a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) and created a highly profitable business model, contributing to the local economy.

His annual turnover is approximately Rs 1.5 crore, and he has urged more farmers to adopt modern agricultural techniques with the government’s support. Krishna Chandra shared that he has been involved in farming since 2006. Currently, he cultivates crops on 16 acres of land, with an annual turnover of Rs 1.5 crore and a profit of about Rs 75-80 lakh.

He was thrilled by PM Modi’s recognition of his village, calling it a hub for vegetables, and said, “It feels great to have the name of my block, village, and district mentioned in front of the country’s people.”

The farmer highlighted that the NABARD and Mahashakti Foundation provide significant support for modern farming practices, offering various subsidies. He emphasised that individual efforts alone won’t suffice, and his goal is for farmers across the district and Odisha to progress together.

Krishna Chandra urged fellow farmers to embrace modern technology in agriculture for better outcomes. Experts believe that such efforts in the farming sector would pave the way for marginal cultivators to progress by being associated with successful farmers like Krishna Chandra. They can also write their own success stories.

Rajinikanth Says ‘Congrats’ When Asked About Vijayakanth’s First Death Anniversary, Realizes Question Later, Exposes Ignorance Once Again After Tiruvannamalai Landslide “Oh Is That So?” Moment

Rajinikanth Says 'Congrats' When Asked About Vijayakanth's First Death Anniversary, Realizes Question Later, Exposes Ignorance Once Again After Tiruvannamalai Landslide "Oh Is That So?" Moment

Actor Rajinikanth has found himself embroiled in controversy after appearing to offer a casual “Congrats” when asked about the first death anniversary of his close friend and fellow actor, Vijayakanth. The insensitive remark, made during a brief interaction with the press at the airport, has drawn significant online criticism. This incident follows another recent instance where Rajinikanth’s response to a serious tragedy – the landslide in Thiruvannamalai – was deemed insensitive and dismissive.

When reporters inquired about the first anniversary of late actor Vijayakanth’s remembrance, Rajinikanth, seemingly misunderstanding the question, responded with a casual “Congrats,” as though they were celebrating the actor’s death. This comment has since drawn significant online criticism.

On 28 December 2024, thousands of fans and party workers from the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) gathered at the party’s headquarters in Chennai to mark the first death anniversary of actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth, affectionately known as “Captain.” Vijayakanth, the founder of DMDK and a former Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, passed away on 28 December 2023, due to health complications.

Given Rajinikanth’s close relationship with Vijayakanth, having often described him as his closest friend, reporters at Chennai airport questioned him about the anniversary. Rajinikanth, arriving from his movie shoot for Coolie, appeared to misunderstand the question and immediately responded with a casual “Congrats,” leaving the reporters taken aback. When they clarified that Vijayakanth had passed away a year ago and they were remembering him on his first anniversary, Rajinikanth responded, “Oh, is that so?” Moments later, He explained that his new film project was going well. His reaction has since sparked significant criticism online.

After facing criticism, actor Rajinikanth took to social media to clarify his response, posting later saying, “My tribute to my beloved captain on his first anniversary.”

This marks the second time that Rajinikanth has given an irresponsible reaction to a serious situation. Just recently, when the press questioned him about the landslide in Thiruvannamalai triggered by Cyclone Fengal, which claimed the lives of seven people, his response was similarly tone-deaf. Upon being informed about the tragedy at the airport, Rajinikanth appeared momentarily shocked, asking, “When?” before offering a brief and seemingly indifferent, “Oh my god, I am extremely sorry.” Moments later, he shifted the conversation to discussing his films with a smile.

“This Is The Right Punishment For That Girl”, Says Dravidianist Senior Advocate Tamizh Mani On Anna University Sexual Assault Victim

This Is The Right Punishment For That Girl - Says Dravidianist Senior Advocate Tamizh Mani On Anna University Sexual Assault Victim

Despite the horrific details emerging from the Anna University sexual assault case FIR, which describes the victim being subjected to a terrifying ordeal, some Dravidianist leaders have publicly questioned the victim’s choices, saying she deserved the “punishment” for venturing out in the late hours of the evening to meet her boyfriend in a secluded location.

The Anna University sexual assault case has sent shockwaves in the society with demands of action against the perpetrator echoing from all quarters. However, Dravidianist leaders who speak up for women’s empowerment are now singing a different tune.

Speaking to a news channel, senior Advocate Tamizh Mani said, “I have to say one thing. This is the right punishment for that girl. Yes, I stand by that. Every night after dinner at 8PM, she goes and meets a man who is studying in the third year, in a nook, behind an old building, without anyone’s notice, if she is sitting and talking, then why are you hiding it? This is the reason. If you sit in a deserted place with a man, what else will happen. Only something like this will happen. You are inviting trouble.”

DMK leader and former T. Nagar MLA V. P. Kalairajan, during a televised debate on the Anna University sexual harassment case, blamed the victim for her assault. He criticized her choice of companion, suggesting that trusting the wrong person led to her suffering. While acknowledging that love is a right and part of cultural heritage, he framed the incident as the woman’s “mistake” for not choosing wisely. He further remarked that the companion failed to protect her, leaving her vulnerable.

Background

On 23 December 2024, a woman, who was in a two-year relationship with a fellow student, was attacked while spending time with her boyfriend at a secluded spot on campus.

Two unknown individuals approached the couple, assaulted the boyfriend, and sexually harassed the woman. The assailants forced her to strip, filmed her without consent, threatened her, and fled the scene. The traumatized victim later reported the incident to the Kotturpuram police.

In connection with the case, police have arrested 37-year-old Gnanasekaran, a roadside biryani vendor from Kotturpuram with multiple pending cases against him. The police have filed charges under Section 64 of the BNSS and are actively investigating the matter.

The victim also lodged a complaint with the university’s POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) committee. Meanwhile, the Chennai police, in collaboration with the university, are working to enhance campus security.

However, it emerged that the accused Gnanasekaran is a repeat offender and a DMK functionary. Pictures circulating on social media show him alongside several prominent DMK leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister Ma. Subramanian.

FIR Reveals Shocking Details

The shocking details came to light after the All Women Police Station (AWPS) in Raja Annamalai Puram filed the FIR, which reveals a sequence of terrifying events that unfolded on 23 December 2024, within the Anna University campus.

The FIR states that Gnanasekaran filmed the survivor and her boyfriend on the campus before taking things to a terrifying level. He allegedly threatened to leak the footage to the university dean and the couple’s parents unless the student complied with his demands.
He then forcibly took the survivor to a secluded area behind the Highway Lab Building and the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department building, where he presented her with three horrifying options: one, to be expelled from the university by the dean based on the footage he threatened to release; two, to “spend time” with him; and three, to “spend time” with another man who had reportedly called the accused before the assault.

The Assault

According to the FIR, after making these threats, Gnanasekaran sexually assaulted the survivor between 7:45 PM and 8:20 PM on 23 December 2024. He also took a picture of her college ID card and extracted her father’s contact information from her phone before fleeing the scene. The survivor, in her written complaint, described how Gnanasekaran had received a phone call from an unknown person, during which he mentioned threatening the girl and leaving her.

The police investigation revealed that Gnanasekaran is no stranger to criminal activity, with seven other pending cases against him, including charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for lurking house-trespass and theft. He has now been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections for rape and sexual harassment.

Meghalaya: Youth Who Chanted ‘Siya Ram Jai Jai Ram’ In Church Will Be Arrested Soon, Say Police

Meghalaya: Youth Who Chanted 'Siya Ram Jai Jai Ram' In Church Will Be Arrested Soon, Say Police

Akash Sagar, a social media influencer who chanted ‘Siya Ram Jai Jai Ram’ last week inside a church in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, will likely be arrested soon.

A senior police officer said that Meghalaya Police had learned of Sagar’s whereabouts and are taking necessary action to arrest him. The police officer, however, refused to disclose further details about the youth.

Sagar reportedly intruded inside a church in Mawlynnong village on December 26 and chanted ‘Siya Ram Jai Jai Ram’ drawing serious criticism from people across Meghalaya.

Soon after the incident, an FIR was registered against him at Pynursla police station. The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the immediate arrest of Sagar for the “blatant act of insulting and disrespecting” Christians with his objectionable act in the Mawlynnong church.

Taking a strong exception to the act, the HYC’s Central Executive Council termed it a direct attack on people following the Christian faith and belief.

Asking the police to arrest Sagar and his accomplices at the earliest and make him face the consequences of his actions according to the provisions of the law, the HYC said in a statement an example should be set by the law-enforcing agencies in Meghalaya in the instant case so that such acts are not repeated and Christians in the state are not disrespected in the future.

Meghalaya Police have registered the case after a social activist, Angela Rangad filed a complaint against the youth for allegedly harming the religious sentiments of people by intruding inside a church and chanting ‘Siya Ram Jai Jai Ram’ in the state’s East Khasi Hills district.

Rangad, in her complaint to the police, said that she came across videos on various social media including Facebook and Instagram, by one Akash Sagar, where he is found criminally trespassing the Church of Epiphany, Mawlynnong, East Khasi Hills, and deliberately desecrating the religious sanctity of the church.

“The youth deliberately and in a premeditated and planned way trespassed into the altar area and shouted non-Christian slogans and mockingly sang non-Christian songs. This act was deliberately and in collusion with two others who appear in the video, done to create communal disharmony, insulting the minority culture and to establish a majoritarian culture of hate in violation of all constitutional rights of religious freedom,” she said in her FIR. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had also condemned the act and said that legal action in this regard is on.

BJP’s Meghalaya unit also earlier condemned the incident at the Mawlynnong Church, “where an individual could be seen engaging in acts that have the potential to hurt the sentiments of Christians across the state and the country”.

Demanding his immediate arrest, Chief Spokesperson of Meghalaya BJP Mariahom Kharkrang said that such cheap publicity stunts, aimed at furthering one’s personal agendas, only hurt the sensitivities of every right-thinking citizen across faiths and can act as a catalyst to inter-religious frictions.

Kharkrang in a statement said that it is important to note that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself joins the Church leaders on Christmas eve and leads the nation in celebrating the message of universal love. The President of Central Puja Committee, an influential Hindu organisation in Meghalaya, Naba Bhattacharjee has also condemned the act.

Muslim Leader’s ‘Fatwa’ Calls New Year Celebrations Against Islamic Principles

Muslim Leader's 'Fatwa' Calls New Year Celebrations Against Islamic Principles

Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, President of All India Muslim Jamaat, sought a fatwa against Muslims participating in New Year’s celebrations and offering greetings for the occasion.

He advised Muslims not to engage in such activities and stated that those who do would be considered criminals according to Sharia law. He stressed that Muslims should refrain from participating in these practices. In a video message, he said: “Chashma Darul Ifta Bareilly Sharif has issued a fatwa regarding the celebration of the New Year.

The fatwa states that celebrating the New Year as per the English calendar in January is inappropriate for Muslims. It also mentions that many Muslim boys and girls celebrate the New Year and exchange greetings, which is a religious ritual of Christians. Islam prohibits participating in or following the religious rituals of any other religion.”

He further explained: “The fatwa also highlighted that New Year celebrations often involve dancing, loud noise, drinking alcohol, gambling, and other activities strictly prohibited in Islam. Anyone who participates in such events will be considered a sinner. Therefore, Muslims have been clearly instructed to stay away from such activities and not celebrate the New Year, as it goes against Islamic principles. In the eyes of Sharia, people who engage in such acts are criminals. They should refrain from such actions and never indulge in them.”

However, Kashish Warsi, the national president of the Sufi Foundation, has reportedly criticised the fatwa. He has reportedly called it a product of a “fatwa factory” that places undue restrictions on Muslims. Warsi questioned the selective labelling of practices as forbidden, arguing that genuine issues within the community remain unaddressed.
