South Africa: Teacher Cuts Hindu Student’s Sacred Wrist Thread, SA Hindu Maha Sabha Strongly Condemns Incident, Demands Action

A teacher at Drakensburg Secondary School in KwaZulu-Natal allegedly cut off a sacred religious thread from the wrist of a Hindu student, triggering widespread condemnation from the Hindu community. The incident, which occurred last week, has been described as an act of religious intolerance by the South African Hindu Maha Sabha (SAHMS), a leading Hindu organization in the country.

The SAHMS has called on education authorities to take swift action against the teacher, asserting that schools must not discriminate against religious practices. According to reports, the teacher justified the action by claiming that the school does not permit the wearing of cultural or religious symbols.

The SAHMS issued a press statement on Sunday, 2 February 2025, condemning the teacher’s actions and launching an investigation into the matter. However, the probe has been hindered as the affected student has refused to come forward, reportedly fearing further victimization.

SAHMS president Ashwin Trikamjee stated that both the school principal and the chairman of the school’s governing body assured him over the phone that religious discrimination was not practiced at their institution. He added that they emphasized their own adherence to religious customs, including wearing rings and strings, but acknowledged that no official written response had been provided yet.
Trikamjee pointed to a past ruling by South Africa’s Constitutional Court, which had decided in favor of a Hindu student who had been barred from wearing a nose ring at school. He highlighted that the court had reaffirmed the right of individuals to practice their cultural and religious beliefs without interference.

The incident at Drakensburg Secondary School has reportedly led to inter-religious tensions in the area, raising concerns about the broader implications of religious intolerance in educational institutions.

South Africa’s Constitution explicitly prohibits discrimination on various grounds, including religion, under the South African Charter of Religious Rights and Freedoms. Additionally, the government has established statutory bodies such as the Human Rights Commission and the Cultural, Religious, and Language (CRL) Rights Commission to address complaints related to discrimination.

Trikamjee criticized the education ministry for failing to provide schools with clear guidelines on religious and cultural tolerance, stating that this has resulted in inconsistent policy enforcement across institutions.

However, Muzi Mahlambi, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, dismissed this criticism. He maintained that the South African Constitution is the highest legal authority and that any school policy contradicting it is unacceptable. Mahlambi also noted that the Department of Education has already instructed all schools to review and revise their codes of conduct to align with constitutional protections, ensuring that no student faces punishment for their religious beliefs.

Indian-origin South African CRL Commissioner Raj Govender called for the school to amend its policies to accommodate the religious and cultural needs of minority communities. He stressed that teachers must exercise neutrality when addressing matters of faith in schools.
Govender stated that if the allegations against the teacher were true, it would represent a serious violation of professional conduct, as educators should not interfere with students’ religious practices.

“Even Top Police Officials Are Not Spared For Speaking Truth”, BJP TN Chief Annamalai Slams DMK Govt Over ADGP Life Threat Allegations

A wave of criticism followed Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kalpana Nayak’s allegations of an attempt on her life after exposing irregularities in police recruitment. In a complaint to Tamil Nadu DGP Shankar Jiwal earlier, she called for an impartial probe into a fire that destroyed her office chamber in Chennai on 29 July 2024.

Nayak stated that the fire occurred shortly after she flagged discrepancies in communal reservation during the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors, constables, prison warders, and firemen under the TNUSRB. She had submitted a report in March 2023 highlighting lapses, but it was ignored. A court order later directed corrections in the selection list.

On the day of the fire, she was advised not to enter her office, but upon arrival, she found her chair charred. She suspects foul play, as the revised selection list was published without her approval a day later. Despite her complaint, no action was taken against staff even after 15 days.

DGP Jiwal stated that an electrical short circuit was the likely cause, but the matter has been referred to Chennai Police for further investigation. Nayak insists on a thorough and unbiased probe, citing serious concerns about law enforcement integrity in Tamil Nadu.

BJP TN chief Annamalai slammed the DMK government for the distressing situation. On his X handle, Annamalai wrote,Flouting rules & laws have become customary in TN under this DMK Government. Even Top Police officials are not spared for speaking the uncomfortable truth that could expose the pathetic nature in which this Government is functioning. ADGP Kalpana Nayak avl pointed out the irregularities in sub-inspector recruitment in the present and the past. She was rewarded with a charred office, and she could have lost her life if she had been present during the Fire. The worst part is that the State Police Department seems to have ignored her constant plea for a genuine investigation into this matter. Why? While the top police officials want to brush it away, calling it a Fire caused by an Electrical short circuit, the sequence of events leading to the fire make this theory unbelievable as ADGP Kalpana Nayak avl was kept out of the decision-making process, and her approval was not sought before publishing the revised list of sub-inspectors. Activists and Government officials are being killed in Tamil Nadu for exposing Corruption, Misgovernance, & Irregularities, and even Top police officials do not feel safe in the State anymore. TN CM Thiru @mkstalin avl’s iron fist seems to be reserved for silencing truth rather than upholding justice.”

FOIA Investigation Reveals Anthony Fauci’s NIAID & USAID Funded High-Risk Coronavirus Research By Wuhan’s ‘Patient Zero’

A newly released Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) investigation by the White Coat Waste Project (WCW) has revealed that U.S. government agencies provided significant funding to Ben Hu, a Wuhan-based scientist now identified as COVID-19’sPatient Zero.Leaked U.S. intelligence confirms Hu was the first person to fall ill at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) before the pandemic officially began.

U.S. Taxpayer Funds Tied To Wuhan Lab Experiments

Documents obtained by WCW through a FOIA lawsuit against the National Institutes of Health (NIH) confirm that Hu was conducting gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses using U.S. taxpayer funds. These grants were issued through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), formerly led by Dr. Anthony Fauci, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

According to federal accounting records, over $41 million was allocated to projects involving Hu and his team. Due to reporting loopholes and conflicting data from EcoHealth Alliance, the exact portion of these funds directed specifically to Hu remains unclear. However, the funding was scheduled to continue until 2024, had it not been terminated in early 2020 following WCW’s revelations.

Newly Leaked Intelligence Identifies Sick Wuhan Lab Scientists

The identity of Wuhan Institute staff members who reportedly fell ill with COVID-like symptoms in November 2019 had been withheld by both the U.S. and Chinese governments—until now. A U.S. intelligence source has confirmed with100% certaintythat three WIV researchers, Ben Hu, Yu Ping, and Yan Zhu, were hospitalized with severe illness in late 2019.

This aligns with earlier reports from January 2021, in which the U.S. State Department disclosed that Wuhan lab staffers involved in coronavirus experiments developed COVID-like symptoms before the virus was officially recognized. Additional accounts indicated that one of the researchers’ wives died in December 2019 from a similar illness.

Dangerous Research Conducted Without Adequate Protection

A 2017 video from Chinese state-run media shows Hu and fellow virologist Shi Zhengli—known asBat Womanfor her work on bat viruses—handling bats and lab specimens without sufficient protective gear. Intelligence findings suggest that Hu led Wuhan’s gain-of-function research on SARS-like coronaviruses using humanized mice to enhance the viruses’ transmissibility.

Federal Funding for Wuhan Lab Experiments Exposed

The WCW investigation highlights how U.S. taxpayer dollars funded risky virus research at WIV, including:

  • The collection of wild coronaviruses from bats in remote Chinese caves.
  • The transportation of these viruses to a laboratory in Wuhan.
  • Gain-of-function experiments designed to make these viruses more infectious to humans.
  • The subsequent infection of Wuhan lab staffers, followed by a cover-up of their medical records and identities.

The newly uncovered federal grants reveal that NIAID and USAID funded Hu’s work at WIV despite long-standing concerns over biosafety and transparency. The grants were ultimately revoked after WCW intervened in 2020.

“An Act Of Anarchy”, TN BJP MLA Slams DMK Govt For Not Permitting Hindu Organizations To Protest To Protect Thirupparankundram Hill

On 3 February 2025, the Madurai district administration imposed Section 163 of the BNSS (previously Section 144 of CrPC) across the district for two days, following tensions over a protest announced by the Hindu Munnani regarding the Thirupparankundram Hill issue. The ban, effective until the night of 4 February 2025, prohibits protests and gatherings to maintain public order, according to District Collector Sangeetha.

Madurai City Police Commissioner Loganathan issued a warning that legal action will be taken against individuals and vehicles violating the law. Addressing the ongoing tensions over the Thiruparankundram Hill dispute, he stated that conflicts between the two groups have persisted for several days, leading to the registration of multiple cases.

“Permission has been denied for the protest planned by Hindu Munnani. So far, five cases have been filed against members from both sides,he confirmed.

In response to this, Tamil Nadu BJP MLA and Mahila Morcha President Vanathi Srinivasan has strongly condemned the imposition of Section 144 at Thiruparankundram, calling it an act ofanarchyaimed at suppressing Murugan devotees. She questioned whether the enforcement of such restrictions indicates a failure of the rule of law in Tamil Nadu or the emergence of a dictatorial regime.

In a press release statement, she wrote, Thiruparankundram is the first house of Lord Muruga’s Arupadaiveedu/6 abodes, which have mixed with the spirit and life of Tamils. Some forces are encroaching on the Murugan temple on the Thiruparankundram Hill and claiming and occupying the Thiruparankundram Hill on the pretext that there is a dargah here. A member of parliament from the Indian Union Muslim League party, which is in the DMK alliance, went with his supporters and encroached on Thiruparankundram Hill, Arupadaiveedu. The parties including BJP and Hindu organizations have pointed this out and the DMK government is silently watching.

Hindu organizations today announced a strike to protect Thiruparankundram Hill, the abode of Lord Muruga, and against fundamentalists who are trying to create chaos and destroy peace. However, the DMK government, which is just looking at the fundamentalists involved in anarchy to destroy peace, is engaging in all illegal activities to suppress the struggle of Hindu organizations fighting to save Lord Muruga’s Arupadaiveedu/abode. The DMK government has deployed thousands of police to suppress the sons of the soil as if they were oppressingforeignforces and are arresting many people who are fighting peacefully. This is highly condemnable.

DMK government and the police which is under the control of Chief Minister MK Stalin, should also give up their anarchy and allow Hindu organizations to protest peacefully as per the fundamental right granted by the Constitution. Otherwise, Muruga and Muruga devotees will punish the DMK government.”

India To Have Minimal Impact If USAID Shuts

India will have a minimal impact if the Trump administration shuts the USAID programme.

President Donald Trump’s close adviser and the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk announced on Monday that Trump has agreed to shut down the programme. In such a scenario it will have a minimal impact on India due to booming economic growth.

USAID began operating in India about 70 years ago, but India now has transformed from a mere aid recipient to its partner for “global impact” by helping other countries, especially in the Indo-Pacific region.

One of the goals of the Quad – India, the US, Japan and Australia – is to cooperate on development in the Indo-Pacific region to counter China’s influence through a more benevolent assistance programme, in contrast to Beijing’s predatory policies.

During the current fiscal year, India was to receive $140 million through USAID, a minuscule amount considering India’s overall budget of over $600 billion, an amount that has come down progressively, as India’s economy has surged.

In the 2024 fiscal year, the USAID allocation was $6.8 million for “government and civil society”; about $55 million for health; $18 million for environment, and $7.8 million for “social infrastructure”, according to the US government’s Foreign Assistance website.

The CDCS called India a “key partner” for the US Indo-Pacific Strategy, “a whole-of-government commitment to advancing a free and open, connected, prosperous, secure, and resilient” region. “India plays an essential role” in achieving the US goals of improving “resilience to Health and Climate Threats” and fostering “Sustainable, Inclusive, Transparent Economic Growth”, it said. Drafted under President Joe Biden, the plan also reflected his other priorities like climate change, and strengthening “democratic institutions to support good governance and human rights”.

The document laid out certain priorities that could have impinged internal matters. “USAID/India seeks to transform structures, power dynamics, and policies through partnerships and active collaboration with a diverse group of actors,” it said. “Such partnerships will include, but are not limited to, civil society, government, and the private sector, with a focus on continuous learning, the expansion of successful models in India and beyond, and phasing out when systemic change is achieved or can be adapted by others,” it added.

One of the examples of cooperation with India in the CDCS is the International Solar Alliance co-sponsored by India and the Coalition for Disaster Resilience Infrastructure. India and USAID have also collaborated in training about 1,200 officials from Africa and Asia on agriculture technology.

All the pages relating to USAID on the US New Delhi embassy website and elsewhere have been scrubbed clean. IANS retrieved some of the information from the versions archived independently on the Wayback Machine or those live on other US agencies’ websites.

Ready Reckoner On Protest To Save Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple Hill, Here’s What You Should Know

Hindu Munnani Calls For Mass Protest On 4 February To Protect Thirupparankundram Hill's Sanctity

With the ongoing tensions at Thirupparankundram Hill and the claims of it being Sikkandar Hill led to Hindu organisations led by Hindu Munnani to announce a large-scale protest on 4 February 2025 to safeguard the sanctity of Thirupparankundram Hill, the first of the six abodes of Lord Muruga. The protest, led by the organization’s state president Kadeshwara Subramaniam, aims to condemn alleged attempts by Islamic organizations to incite religious unrest and encroach on the hill’s sacred grounds.

However, a couple of days ago, BNS 163 – known as Section 144 earlier under the IPC, was imposed in Madurai ahead of the protest. The ban, effective from today until tomorrow night, prohibits protests and gatherings to maintain public order, according to District Collector Sangeetha.

Madurai City Police Commissioner Loganathan has issued a warning that legal action will be taken against individuals and vehicles violating the law. Addressing the ongoing tensions over the Thirupparankundram hill dispute, he stated that conflicts between two groups have persisted for several days, leading to the registration of multiple cases.

In wake of this, the Hindu Munnani released a ready reckoner on the protest to save the Thirupparankundram Murugan Temple Hill. Here are some FAQs released in the ready reckoner.

1. Will the event take place?

A. It will definitely happen

2. Is Sec 144 imposed?

A. Yes but no one can stop the devotees from going to the temple. This is a conspiracy to create fear.

3. Then how do we come and gather?

A. Don’t come in a crowd, let’s go to the temple separately, one or two together, with their family.

4. Has a case been filed in court?

A. It has been filed. On the 4th at 12 noon, the democratic programme is sure to win. This is the work of the Lord.

5. Will vehicles be blocked?

A. Yes, they will block.

6. Then what do we do?

A. You can come by bus or train or even walk.

7. Is it possible to drive near Thirupparankundram?

A. Definitely not. Be prepared to walk

8. Is food/water available?

A. Water will be provided. However, efforts are being made to close all the shops and deprive us of food & water. Therefore, food/water should be carried by those who are coming to the temple.

9. Can we tie a flag?

A. It is better to come as a Muruga devotee without any identification.

The Hindu Munnani and their legal team also have released information for Hindus traveling to Thirupparankundram Sri Kandar Hill if they face any legal issues or arrests along the way. Contact numbers for lawyers in each area have been provided for immediate support. Devotees and patriots undertaking this pilgrimage are encouraged to make use of these resources.

Background

The dispute began after members of the Muslim community demanded permission to sacrifice goats and chickens at the Sikandar Badusha Dargah on Thirupparankundram Hill. Hindu organizations strongly opposed the demand, leading to a ban on animal sacrifice at the site. This has resulted in growing tensions between the two groups.

Further controversy erupted after Nawaz Kani, Chairman of the Waqf Board, Indian Union Muslim League state vice president, and MP from Ramanathapuram, visited Thirupparankundram along with members of various organizations. A photo shared on his social media showed him eating non-vegetarian food on the hill, sparking criticism from Tamil Nadu BJP leader K. Annamalai and Union Minister L. Murugan, who demanded his resignation. In response, Nawaz Kani challenged Annamalai to prove the allegations, stating he would resign if the claims were verified, but also demanded Annamalai step down if they were not.

The Hindu Munnani announced a protest to protect Thirupparankundram Hill on 4 February 2025, with several Hindu organizations pledging participation. However, authorities have denied permission for the protest, and the BJP has accused the police of arresting activists who pasted posters and distributed notices for the demonstration.

The Madurai district administration has urged the public not to participate in any protests, emphasizing that the enforcement of Section 144 is aimed at maintaining peace and order in the region.

Madurai Bench Of Madras High Court Orders Return Of Seized Electronic Devices To BJP Leader SG Suryah

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the return of electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptops, that were seized from Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary SG Suryah. The devices had been confiscated as part of an investigation into a defamation case filed against him by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) MP, Su Venkatesan. SG Suryah fought a lengthy legal battle spanning 598 days to reclaim his seized electronic gadgets.

The case stemmed from an alleged offensive tweet posted by Suryah on 10 June 2023. In the tweet, he claimed that a Marxist Communist Party councilor from the Pennadam Town Panchayat had ordered a sanitary worker, belonging to a Scheduled Caste community, to clean a gutter, which resulted in the worker’s death from toxic gas inhalation. Suryah further criticized MP Su Venkatesan for his “deceptive silence” on the incident. Suryah in his statement had misattributed the death that happened in Cuddalore to Madurai while condemning the Madurai CPI-M MP’s stoic silence on the matter.

Following a complaint, Suryah was charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 153A (promoting enmity between groups), 504 (intentional insult), 505(1)(b) and 505(1)(c) (statements creating public mischief), along with Section 66(D) of the IT Act, 2008. His devices—an Apple laptop, an iPad, two Apple mobile phones, and one Samsung mobile phone—were seized during his arrest. Suryah was later released on bail.

Suryah had filed a petition seeking the interim return of his seized devices, arguing that they contained no false information or defamatory content. However, the Judicial Magistrate Court No.1 in Madurai dismissed his plea on 1 February 2024. Challenging this decision, Suryah approached the High Court through a criminal revision petition.

During the hearing, Suryah’s counsel cited the Supreme Court’s precedent in the ‘Sunderbhai Ambalal Desai v. State of Gujarat’ case, which emphasized that seized property should not be held longer than necessary. The defense also highlighted that all relevant data from the devices had already been extracted by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) in Thiruvananthapuram. The forensic report confirmed that all communications, including emails, social media chats, and other digital content, had been saved to a separate pen drive submitted to the trial court.

Opposing the petition, the prosecution argued that returning the devices could lead to tampering with potential evidence. They noted that not all data had been accessed due to device passcodes. However, the court observed that the critical forensic analysis had been completed, and the prosecution had not provided substantial grounds to deny the return of the gadgets.

In its judgment, the court acknowledged that prolonged retention of electronic devices could lead to data corruption or hardware damage. It also considered Suryah’s written undertaking to maintain the devices’ integrity and produce them before the court if required. Setting aside the lower court’s order, the High Court directed that all seized devices, including the SIM cards, be returned to SG Suryah.

Part-Time Politician Vijay Appoints Misogynistic Abuser Ram Kumar As Co-Coordinator Of TVK’s Social Media Unit

Ever since work-from-home politician Vijay announced the new executive heads for various positions in Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on 31 January 2025, in preparation for the party’s election campaign for the 2026 assembly elections, the move has sparked widespread ridicule and criticism online. Netizens have been mocking and roasting R. Ram Kumar, the newly appointed Deputy Coordinator of TVK’s Social Media unit. Ram Kumar had previously been accused and reprimanded for making degrading and abusive comments towards women on social media, believing he was anonymous. He later issued a brief video apology for his actions. To add fuel to the fire, a viral video surfaced showing Ram Kumar making inappropriate TikTok videos with women, further tarnishing his reputation. This has led to harsh criticism of actor Vijay and his party, with many accusing them of bringing in new executives who are seen as peddlers of fake narratives, or being misogynists and abusers.

Abusing TNM Editor-in-Chief Dhanya Rajendran

In 2017, Dhanya Rajendran, editor-in-chief of ‘The News Minute’, faced a coordinated online harassment campaign after she casually mentioned that she had once walked out halfway through a film starring popular Tamil actor Vijay. Following an ominous warning to “wait till 6:00 p.m.,” Vijay’s fans launched a relentless trolling attack against her, flooding her social media with vicious abuse and even issuing rape threats. The outrage seemed fueled not only by her critique of Vijay’s film but also by the fact that she, as a woman, dared to publicly voice her dislike of his work. The nature of the threats and the organized manner of the attack suggested a planned campaign, likely led by a central figure with a structured network behind it.

One of the individuals involved, Ramkumar, who had been investigated by the police for his role in the trolling, later admitted his involvement. In a video apology, he confessed to targeting Rajendran and expressed regret, stating he had “learned a lesson.” Ramkumar, who had created a hashtag on Twitter to amplify the harassment, claimed he was unaware that Rajendran was a journalist and had mistakenly assumed she was a fan of actor Ajith, Vijay’s industry rival.

Reflecting on his apology, Rajendran remarked, “I’m glad that at least one person has come forward to apologize. And like he himself says, anonymity is not a permanent shield. When you break the law, you can get into trouble. I hope other youngsters take this as an example.”

The incident began on 4 August, when Rajendran shared her opinion about a Hindi film on Twitter, mentioning that she had left the screening midway and comparing the experience to watching a Vijay film. Shortly after, she became the target of a flood of online abuse, with coordinated attacks marked by threats and misogynistic slurs.

In his apology video, Ramkumar urged others to refrain from trolling and using abusive language on social media. “Take my life as an example,” he said. “The police came to my house to investigate and questioned my mother. This caused distress to my family. There was no one to support me except my family. Anonymity doesn’t help.”

Later in an interview to The News Minute with Dhanya Rajendra herself, Ram Kumar thanked her saying that it was a positive event that happened in his life. He said that her complaint raised awareness to many about what to do and what not to do.

Lewd TikTok Videos

Another widely circulated and criticized video featured R. Ram Kumar, the newly appointed Deputy Coordinator of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) Social Media unit. In the video, Ram Kumar was seen recording a TikTok video where a woman, dressed in just a bath towel, appeared to be dancing suggestively opposite to the camera as part of a prank, later revealing she was wearing a skirt underneath. During the video, Ram Kumar was captured making inappropriate gestures and lewd signals directed at the woman on screen, sparking widespread backlash and criticism online.

NIA Arrests Two Key Accused In Hizb-ut-Tahrir Terror Conspiracy Case In Dravidian Model Tamil Nadu

hizb-ut-tahrir nia

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two key accused in the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) case, marking a significant breakthrough in its crackdown on extremist activities in India.

The arrested individuals, Kabeer Ahmed Aliyar and Bava Bahrudeen alias Mannai Bava, were allegedly involved in a conspiracy to propagate Hizb-ut-Tahrir’s radical ideology through secret gatherings (Bayaans) and the organization of an exhibition promoting the military strength of Islamic nations. Authorities claim that their objective was to invite external forces (Nussrah) to overthrow the Indian government through violent jihad.

The case, registered as RC 01/2024/NIA/CHE, initially targeted six individuals linked to HuT’s activities in Tamil Nadu. Further investigation revealed that the accused were deeply influenced by HuT’s extremist, pan-Islamist, and fundamentalist ideology, which seeks to re-establish an Islamic caliphate and enforce a constitution drafted by HuT founder Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani.

As part of its counter-extremism measures, the Government of India banned Hizb-ut-Tahrir and all its manifestations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in October 2024. The group has been under scrutiny for its attempts to radicalize individuals and build an underground network across multiple states.

International Links And Funding Under Probe

The NIA continues to investigate HuT’s co-conspirators, international connections, and funding sources. The agency has been tracking the organization’s expanding influence in South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala, as well as potential ties to radical networks in North and Northeast India.

Officials have stated that social media and digital platforms played a crucial role in HuT’s efforts to radicalize youth and spread its ideology. The arrested individuals were allegedly part of a broader conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the Indian state and fostering anti-national sentiments.

The latest arrests are considered a major success in India’s counter-terrorism efforts. Security agencies are intensifying their efforts to identify additional HuT operatives and dismantle the group’s underground network.

The Indian government has reaffirmed its commitment to preventing radical elements from undermining national security. Further investigations and crackdowns on HuT’s operations, financial backers, and digital outreach are expected in the coming weeks.
