NIA Finds Links To Banned Terror Outfit PFI In Bajrang Dal Leader Suhas Shetty’s Murder Case

nia finds pfi link suhas shetty murder case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which took over the investigation into the murder of Bajrang Dal leader Suhas Shetty in June 2025, has uncovered links between the accused and the banned radical Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI), officials said.

Shetty was killed on 1 May 2025 near Kinnipadavu Cross under Bajpe police station limits in Mangaluru. He was travelling with five associates when two vehicles intercepted them, and a group of men fatally attacked him with sharp weapons. The incident, captured on CCTV, led to the arrest of 12 individuals by Mangaluru City Police.

The Ministry of Home Affairs transferred the case to the NIA following demands by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the victim’s family, who alleged that the Congress-led Karnataka government was mishandling the investigation. Suhas Shetty’s mother, Sulochana Shetty, had also demanded a central agency probe.

After taking charge in June 2025, the NIA began a detailed investigation and soon found that several of the arrested men had direct links to the PFI. Officials said financial records revealed that the accused received funding from both domestic and overseas sources, and bank account transactions are now being closely examined.

According to preliminary findings, the murder had been planned three months in advance. In January 2025, accused Adil Mehroof allegedly gave ₹3 lakh to Abdul Safwan’s group to carry out the attack. Safwan is said to have tracked Shetty’s movements for over two weeks and conducted surveillance of his routine locations. A backup plan was also reportedly prepared in case the original attempt failed.

Information about Shetty’s location and companions on the day of the murder was allegedly shared by accused Azhar Kalavar. The assailants used two vehicles, a Swift car and a pickup truck, to execute the plan.

Suhas Shetty, who had five criminal cases against him, including murder and robbery, was the main accused in the July 2022 killing of Mohammed Fazil, a 23-year-old MBA graduate from Surathkal. Fazil’s murder was allegedly carried out as a retaliatory act for the earlier killing of BJP youth leader Praveen Nettaru.

The NIA is also probing whether funds used in Shetty’s killing came from the ₹25 lakh compensation awarded to Adil Mehroof’s family by the Karnataka government after Fazil’s death.

The 12 arrested in the case include Adil Mehroof, Abdul Safwan, Niyaz, Mohammed Mussammir, Kalandar Shafi, Mohammed Rizwan, M. Nagaraj, Ranjith, Azhar Kalavar, Naushad, Abdul Khader, and Abdul Razak. The first arrests were made on 3 May 2025, with further arrests on 15 May 2025 and 3 June 2025.

According To The Wire ₹25,000 In 1991 = ₹25,000 In 2025

the wire inflation economics maths crackonomics

Leftists and economics/basic mathematics can never go hand in hand – here’s yet another proof of this fact. First it was Newslaundry which confused “Purchasing Power Parity” (PPP) with “Public Private Partnership” (PPP) while discussing India’s GDP rankings in a video on their YouTube channel. Now it is the turn of their counterpart The Wire.

In a video from their series “Crackonomics” titled “Is Our Banking Model Failing Aam Aadmi?” that raised “critical concerns about India’s banking system” and its alleged tilt away from the common man, one specific segment was fallacious.

The segment claims small loans to poor borrowers declined sharply from 94% in 1991 to just 15% in 2025.

The anchor says, “Then comes the matter of loans, since 1991 the number of small loans has been falling. Thomas Franco, former general secretary of All India Bank Officers Confederation, told how the decrease in small loans is a matter of concern. In 1991, loans up to Rs 25,000 were being given to 94% borrowers and their outstanding was 22%, meaning these small loans were usually recovered easily and did not become bad debt. Also, loans up to Rs 2 lakh were being given to 99% borrowers. Overall, the doors of banks were open for the common man. Then comes the year 2001 when the number of loans up to Rs 25,000 decreased to 71.7% while the borrowers were repaying them on time, only 7% were outstanding. By 2014, loans of Rs 25,000 or less were reduced to just 23.5% and loans up to Rs 2 lakh also came down to 78.4%. Now in 2025, loans up to Rs 25,000 have reduced to just 15.3% and their outstanding amount is just 0.2% of the total outstanding amount. Overall, the money given to the poor man is decreasing.”

Now let us tell you why this is wrong or based on a wrong understanding.

While the video argues that loans of ₹25,000 or less accounted for 94% of borrowers in 1991, dropping to 71.7% in 2001, 23.5% in 2014, and finally just 15.3% in 2025. However, what it fails to acknowledge is that ₹25,000 in 1991 had significantly more purchasing power than it does today.

Using conservative inflation estimates (6–8% annually), ₹25,000 in 1991 would be roughly equivalent to ₹2.5 to ₹3 lakh in 2025. This means that a ₹25,000 loan today is no longer “small” in the same way—it is microscopic.

Without accounting for inflation or economic growth, the video makes an apples-to-oranges comparison that creates an illusion of decline where there may be none—or at least, not to the dramatic extent claimed.

If the video aimed to honestly track how banking access for the poor has changed, it should have:

  • Adjusted the loan threshold for inflation, comparing loans under ₹2.5–3 lakh today with ₹25,000 loans in 1991.
  • Tracked the real value of small-ticket lending using inflation-adjusted brackets.
  • Examined how many borrowers in 2025 are getting loans up to ₹3 lakh, rather than rigidly sticking to the ₹25,000 cut-off.

With such a methodology, we would get a clearer picture of whether access to credit for the poor has genuinely shrunk—or just evolved in size as the economy matured.

Another way of looking at this issue is to understand how things have changed over the years.

Yes, regular banks have reduced tiny-ticket lending (≤₹25,000), but not because the poor are getting less credit. Instead, the market has shifted to:

Microfinance Institutions (MFIs): MFIs now serve 10 crore+ borrowers with loans of ₹10,000–₹50,000. Interest rates are higher (18–24%), but approval is faster than banks.

Government Schemes such as PM Mudra Yojana, PM Svanidhi

Mudra Yojana: Since its launch in April 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) has sanctioned over 52 crore loans worth ₹32.61 lakh crore.

PM SVANidhi: Launched in 2020, the scheme offers collateral-free loans of ₹10,000–₹50,000 to street vendors with a 7% interest subsidy and ₹100 monthly cashback for digital transactions. It aims to formalize vendors, boost digital adoption, and support their economic mobility, recognizing their vital role in the urban informal economy.

Fintech & Digital Lenders: Apps like PayTM, PhonePe, and KreditBee offer instant small loans (₹10,000–₹3 lakhs).

The claim that “loans to the poor have collapsed” is misleading because it ignores inflation (₹25,000 today is far less valuable) and also the available alternatives (MFIs, govt schemes, fintech).

The truth is that the poor have more credit options than ever—just not all from traditional banks. The real debate should be about fair interest rates and regulating MFIs, not a false “banks vs. poor” narrative.

DMK Leader, Police Accused Of Offering ₹50 Lakh Hush Money To Family Of Custodial Death Victim, Says Polimer News Report

custodial death tamil nadu ajith kumar hush money 50 lakh

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court was rocked by sensational allegations during the hearing of a custodial death case involving a 27-year-old security guard. The petitioner’s counsel claimed that local DMK functionaries and police officials attempted to settle the matter by offering ₹50 lakh to the victim’s family which the family refused to accept.

The case pertains to the death of Ajithkumar, a security guard from Sivagangai district, who died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody on 28 June 2025. According to the petition, Ajithkumar was taken for questioning regarding a complaint about a missing jewellery – from a car he had parked for the devotees visiting the temple where he worked as a guard. What began as an “unnatural death” case was later reclassified as murder following public outrage.

During today’s hearing before Justice S.M. Subramaniam, the petitioner’s side made several grave accusations. They alleged that Sengaichingamaran, a DMK member and husband of a local panchayat president, along with Thirubhuvanam DMK City Secretary Kaleeswaran and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, negotiated with the victim’s family. The purported offer of ₹50 lakh was meant to dissuade the family from pursuing legal action.

The petitioner further claimed serious procedural violations in the case. They stated that Ajithkumar’s mother and brother were denied proper access to view his body before the postmortem examination. Additional allegations included deliberate delays in investigating the custodial death and failure to take action against the responsible police officials.

Government counsel, representing the police, countered these claims by maintaining that proper procedures were followed. They asserted that the case was promptly registered and that Ajithkumar had died due to a heart attack during questioning. The counsel also denied any wrongdoing in the conduct of the postmortem examination.

Justice Subramaniam expressed deep concern over the circumstances of the death, particularly questioning how a healthy young man could die during routine interrogation. The court emphasized the need for a thorough and transparent investigation into both the custodial death and the alleged monetary settlement attempt.

This case has drawn significant attention amid growing scrutiny of police procedures in Tamil Nadu, where custodial deaths have become a contentious issue. The court has adjourned the matter for further hearing, with directions to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

Defamation Case Filed By TVK Chief Vijay’s Uncle Xavier Britto Against YouTuber Maridhas Dismissed Over Non-Appearance

Loyola College Under ED Radar? Maridhas Warns Donors Amid Mounting Corruption Allegations On TVK Vijay's Uncle Xavier Britto

A criminal defamation petition filed by actor Vijay’s uncle and businessman Xavier Britto against YouTuber and political commentator Maridhas has been dismissed by the IX Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Chennai, after the complainant repeatedly failed to appear for hearings.

The case was scheduled for multiple hearings, but the court record shows that there was no representation from the complainant’s side and the sworn statement had not been filed. On 27 June 2025, the magistrate noted the continued absence of the complainant and dismissed the petition accordingly.

The legal notice was initially filed in November 2024 by Xavier Britto, who had taken objection to allegations made by Maridhas in a series of YouTube videos and social media posts. Maridhas had accused Britto and others of being part of an alleged “Loyola syndicate” that purportedly wielded influence through the Society of Jesus and was involved in irregular financial dealings, including benami transactions and corruption purportedly benefiting actor Vijay’s family.

Britto, a prominent industrialist and close family member of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay, had issued a legal notice on 8 November 2024, through his counsel in response to Maridhas’ videos. However, despite initiating legal action, the complainant did not follow through with procedural requirements in court, leading to the dismissal.

Maridhas had publicly responded on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on 22 November 2024, stating that he would continue his exposé series.

Tiruppur Woman Dies By Suicide 78 Days After Marriage Over Dowry Harassment; Congress Leader’s Grandson (Husband), In-Laws Arrested

tiruppur woman suicide dowry harassment congress

In a shocking case of alleged dowry harassment, a 27-year-old woman, Rithanya from Avinashi Kaikatti Puthur in Tiruppur district, died by suicide just 78 days after her marriage. Her husband Kavin Kumar (28), along with his parents, Eeswaramoorthy and Chitradevi, have been arrested by police after a preliminary investigation into voice notes sent by the deceased to her father revealed repeated harassment and abuse.

Rithanya, who married Kavin Kumar on 11 April 2025, in a lavish ceremony, was found dead inside her car on 28 June 2025 near Chettiputhur in Mondipalayam. According to police, she had consumed sulphur-based pesticide, typically used on coconut plantations. Her body was recovered by Cheyur/Sevur Police and sent for post-mortem.

Prior to her death, Rithanya recorded and sent seven voice messages to her father, Annadurai who is a garment manufacturer, detailing the abuse she had been facing. In the audio recordings, she named her husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law as responsible for the daily physical and mental torture. She expressed emotional distress over the continuing dowry demands and stated that she could no longer endure the pain.

Dowry Demands And Alleged Abuse

The marriage was allegedly arranged with the promise of substantial dowry—500 sovereigns of gold and a ₹70 lakh Volvo car. Of this, Rithanya’s family had already provided the car and around 300 sovereigns of gold. However, according to her father, her in-laws continuously harassed her for the remaining 200 sovereigns and even allegedly demanded ₹100 crore from the family to fund a business venture.

In the voice messages, Rithanya said, “You and mom are my world. The dreams that you had for me never happened. You are very hurt because of me. I am suffering because you cannot express your pain, I cannot bear it, please forgive me, Dad, I am leaving. I am sorry dad, everything is over.” She further detailed the psychological abuse inflicted on her, including restrictions on her movements inside the house, prohibitions on entering the puja room, lighting lamps, or participating in regular household activities.

Rithanya also described physical violence at the hands of her husband, and persistent emotional manipulation by her in-laws. Despite returning to her parental home multiple times after her marriage, she was sent back in the hope of reconciliation, based on assurances from her husband’s family.

Political Connections And Public Outcry

Kavin Kumar is the grandson of Krishnan, the Tiruppur District Congress Committee President. The political background of the accused family has intensified public scrutiny and calls for strict action.

After Rithanya’s death, her relatives and community members staged a protest at Avinashi Sathy Road, demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Tensions flared outside the hospital during the post-mortem, when Rithanya’s family confronted the accused. Police intervened to prevent violence and detained the husband and his parents.

Avinashi Deputy Superintendent of Police Sivakumar assured the agitating relatives that appropriate legal action would be taken. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges relating to dowry harassment and abetment of suicide.

Father’s Statement

Rithanya’s father Annadurai, devastated by his daughter’s death, said that he had initially advised her to “adjust” and return to her husband, not realizing the extent of the abuse. “She came back 15 days after the marriage saying they were harassing her. I didn’t know how bad it was. Later, they started demanding ₹100 crore,” he said.

He further stated that his daughter revealed the location of her gold jewellery and savings in her final voice messages, urging the family not to remain silent and not to “bow their heads.”

Police sources confirm that the three accused remain in custody and are being interrogated. Authorities are also examining the financial transactions related to the dowry demands, and forensic analysis of the audio messages has been initiated as part of the case evidence.

The case has sparked widespread outrage across Tamil Nadu, highlighting once again the persistent social evil of dowry and the continued vulnerability of women—even among educated and affluent families.

NIA Attaches Property Of Accused In Thanjavur Linked To Hizb-ut-Tahrir Conspiracy Case

hizb-ut-tahrir nia

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 30 June 2025 attached a property in Tamil Nadu belonging to an accused in the Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) conspiracy case, as part of its ongoing investigation into a plot to establish an Islamic Caliphate in India.

The attached property belongs to Bava Bahrudeen alias Mannai Bava, who was arrested earlier in connection with the case. Located at No. 58H, Ashrath Awliya, Manshoor Thaikkal, Gandhiji Road, Thanjavur — in Survey No. 2983 of Ward 6, under the jurisdiction of the Thanjavur Joint I Sub Registrar Office — the property was attached under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, according to an official statement issued by the NIA.

Investigators said the land is legally owned by the Hazarat Sams Manssor Peer Avuliya Dargah Trust Board but was allegedly ‘sold’ informally, without formal registration, to Bava Bahrudeen. Since 2015, the premises had been allegedly used by Bahrudeen and his associates for covert activities linked to the banned HuT outfit.

According to the NIA, the accused had been conducting secret indoctrination classes and radicalisation sessions at the location. These sessions included clandestine recruitment activities and propaganda campaigns promoting HuT’s ideology. The site was also used to host “Khilafah Exhibitions” that showcased the military capabilities of several Islamic countries, including Egypt, Iran, Turkey, and Pakistan, the agency said.

The case, registered as RC 01/2024/NIA/CHE, concerns a larger conspiracy by self-styled HuT leaders to propagate the group’s radical ideology and to push for the implementation of a parallel constitution authored by HuT founder Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani. The accused allegedly held secret bayaans (religious lectures) to indoctrinate and recruit youth, seeking to incite them to reject India’s democratic framework and support HuT’s vision of an Islamic Caliphate.

The agency also noted that the accused were attempting to solicit Nusra (military assistance) from forces hostile to India to further their objectives.

YouTuber Shyam Meera Singh’s Smear Attempt On Isha Foundation Falls Flat; TN Police Close Case

tamil nadu police tn police isha sadhguru shyam meera singh defamation allegations baseless isha foundation

The Tamil Nadu Police have officially closed an inquiry into allegations of abuse at the Isha Foundation, stating in a closure report that the claims were unfounded and baseless.

The allegations had initially resurfaced just ahead of the 2025 Mahashivratri celebrations, prompting concerns from Isha Foundation about the timing and perceived intent behind the video’s release. The foundation had previously dismissed the claims as recycled and debunked misinformation, pointing out inconsistencies in the alleged evidence and raising concerns over reputational harm.

The allegations, which emerged from a viral video posted by YouTuber Shyam Meera Singh in February 2025, which parroted the same lies that were peddled by Nakkheeran Gopal, had prompted a preliminary police investigation following a complaint filed by activist Piyush Manush.

According to the closure report filed on 20 June 2025, a team comprising senior officers conducted a thorough investigation into the claims made in Singh’s video, which alleged the exploitation of minors within the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore. The police team examined the content of the video as well as a set of purported internal emails that Singh and earlier, journalist Nakkeeran Gopal, claimed were leaked from within the organisation.

The probe involved detailed interviews with 61 students from Isha Home School and Isha Samskriti. Investigators also contacted 13 staff members, ex-students, volunteers, and visitors who had been associated with Isha Foundation since 2017. Additionally, the cyber wing of the Tamil Nadu Police examined the digital trail of the emails referred to in the video and concluded that the email IDs lacked verifiable login activity. Authorities also said the content of the alleged emails appeared “improbable,” based on interviews and inspection conducted with assistance from child welfare officials.

The police concluded that, “There is no prima facie case made out to register an FIR as alleged in the complaint. Hence, the petition is hereby closed as action dropped.”

This development comes after a February 2025 defamation suit filed by Isha Foundation in the Delhi High Court, seeking removal of Singh’s video titled “Sadhguru EXPOSED: What’s Happening in Jaggi Vasudev’s Ashram”. In an interim order, Justice Subramonium Prasad restrained Singh from publishing or circulating the video further and directed YouTube, X, and Meta to take it down. The court noted that the contents of the video were “per se defamatory” and observed that the video’s title was “clickbait” designed to damage reputations.

70-Year-Old Tourist Raped In Pahalgam Hotel Just A Week Before Terror Attack; Court Denies Bail To Accused Zubair Ahmad Bhat

pahalgam rape case april 1 kashmir terror attack accused denied bail maharashtra woman

A shocking case of sexual assault has come to light in the tourist town of Pahalgam, where a 70-year-old woman from Maharashtra was allegedly raped inside a hotel room on 11 April 2025 – just days before the Pahalgam terror attack. The accused, identified as Zubair Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Pahalgam, is currently in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected by a local court in Anantnag.

According to police reports, the victim, who was visiting Kashmir with her son’s family, was alone in her hotel room when the accused forcibly entered, gagged her with a blanket, and sexually assaulted her before fleeing. The assault left the elderly woman with severe injuries, causing her immense pain for several days.

The accused later sought bail, claiming that he was falsely implicated due to a personal grudge between his family and the police. However, the court dismissed his plea, citing the gravity of the crime.

Principal Sessions Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina delivered a scathing observation, calling the crime a reflection of “the highest degree of depravity and sick mentality prevailing in society.” Rejecting the Supreme Court’s principle that “bail is the rule, jail the exception,” the judge asserted that releasing the accused at this stage could jeopardize the investigation and set a dangerous precedent.

“A revered guest, a senior lady on her visit to this land of saints and seers, was treated so shabbily and shockingly that, for all times to come, she will have remorse over her choice of place to spend a period of her old age days with her children,” the court lamented.

“No sooner the sheet-anchors, conscious keepers, watch dogs, and philanthropists of this society will rise to the occasion to check what is going wrong on the moral front of the society, the better will be for saving the Kashmir as the paradise on earth in its true sense,” Justice Raina said.

“Mere meadows, mountains, lush green fields, forests, springs, rivers, rivulets and gardens will not come to the rescue of Kashmir as a desired tourist destination,” the judge remarked. He urged civil society and authorities to take strict action to prevent such incidents in the future.

The case, which occurred in April 2025, only gained media attention in July, raising questions about underreporting of crimes against tourists in the Kashmir valley.

Five Policemen Arrested For Custodial Death Of Temple Guard In Sivaganga; Murder Charges Invoked

custodial death torture ajithkumar temple guard police postmortem report

Five police personnel were arrested late on Monday, 30 June 2025, in connection with the custodial death of Ajithkumar (27), a temple security guard at the Madapuram Kaliamman temple in Sivaganga district. Murder charges have also been invoked. The arrest followed a postmortem report that revealed severe injuries, including a brain haemorrhage, sustained allegedly during police interrogation in a theft case.

As per reports, the officers were identified as Raja, Sankara Manikandan, Ramachandran, Prabhu, Anand (Head Constable), and Kannan.

Ajithkumar was reportedly picked up by the police on Saturday, 28 June 2025, and allegedly assaulted while in custody. He died later, prompting a swift official response. An official release issued Monday night confirmed that six personnel had been placed under suspension on 28 June 2025, and that further action was taken “without any delay” after the autopsy findings were received.

According to sources familiar with the postmortem conducted at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai on Sunday, 29 June 2025, Ajithkumar had suffered brain haemorrhage and bore more than 30 contusion injuries. However, no bone fractures were found. His body samples have been sent for further forensic analysis, and the final autopsy report is expected only after these results are collated. The preliminary report may be submitted to the investigating officer on Tuesday, 1 July 2025.

Following the postmortem, Ajithkumar’s body was handed over to his family late Sunday and was cremated later that day.

Meanwhile, a judicial enquiry into the incident has been ordered. On Monday, District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate of Thirupuvanam, R Venkadesh Prasanth, visited the sites near the temple where the alleged custodial assault took place. Sivaganga police officials stated that the theft case in which Ajithkumar had been detained is still under investigation.

Advocates have called for judicial intervention. E Marees Kumar, the state deputy secretary of the AIADMK’s advocate wing, and others approached the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, urging the initiation of suo motu proceedings into the custodial death. The bench comprising Justices S M Subramaniam and A D Maria Clete stated it would consider the matter once a formal petition is filed.

During the interaction, the government counsel questioned the claim made by advocates regarding the frequency of custodial deaths in the state over the past four years. In response, the bench questioned the need for such a level of force against a person arrested in a routine theft case and who was unarmed.

Marees Kumar also filed a separate petition seeking 50 lakh rupees as compensation for Ajithkumar’s family and the registration of a murder case against the responsible police personnel. He further sought a direction to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a retired judge of the Madras High Court.
