Hindu Aikyavedi workers arrested in Kerala for asking bakery owner to remove the halal certificate

Four workers of the Hindu Aikyavedi were arrested when they asked a bakery owner to remove the halal certificate. This is again one of those incidents in Kerala when the ugly head of Muslim appeasement has come to fore and supported by the LDF government.

The incident happened in Kurumassery in Ernakulam district, where a recently-inaugurated bakery exhibited advertisement of Halal food in their shop.

Hindu Aikyavedi workers Sujay, Arun, Lenin and Dhanesh peacefully went to the shop owner and handed over a letter to the owner asking him to abandon the halal advertisement.

Halal is seen as imposition of Islamic religious beliefs and practices over non-Muslims. It is also seen as leading to monoculturalism and monopoly as they restrict culinary diversity and keep non-Muslims out of business and employment opportunities.

The Hindu Aikyavedi workers have been charged under the sections of attempt to create communal unrest by the Chengamanadu police.

Halal certification is a huge industry which was once only limited to meat products. However, it has now been used on even on cosmetics such as lipsticks, eyeliners, and even real estates.

M.K. Alagiri to meet supporters today to discuss next move ahead of TN Assembly elections

M.K. Alagiri, the estranged brother of DMK chief M.K. Stalin will be meeting his supporters today at Madurai to discuss strategies for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

This move of Alagiri comes days after Superstar Rajinikanth announced his decision to not take the political plunge.

The meeting has been convened by Alagiri today to get the views of his supporters on the formation of a new party. It is expected that he will make a big announcement on the occasion of his birthday, January 30.

It is expected that Alagiri might float an outfit and align the the AIADMK-BJP alliance.

Congress appoints more than 400 executives to manage its TN unit, becomes laughing stock

Reminiscent of Cho’s classic film Muhammad Bin Tughlaq, the Congress on Saturday (January 2) appointed around 400 office bearers to manage its Tamil Nadu unit.

The Congress central command has appointed 32 Vice Presidents, 57 General Secretaries, 104 Secretaries, 56 Executive Committee Members, 32 Ex-Officio Members, 1 Treasurer and 200 odd other members and to the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee totaling to more than 400 hundred executives.

The demand for the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee to appoint new executives has been around for a long time. Appointed when Gnanasekan was president, the executives are still in office. In between, Ilangovan and Thirunavukkarasu served as leaders of the TNCC.

Alagiri, who is currently President of TNCC, made a serious effort to establish his own administrative setup. As a result, Congress yesterday approved a ‘jumbo’ list of more than 400 executives. Accordingly, Tamil Nadu Congress executive committee members now include State President Alagiri, Congress leader in Tamil Nadu Assembly Ramasamy, former Union ministers Chidambaram, Manishankar Iyer, Sudarsana Nachiyappan, former leaders Kumari Ananthan, Thangkabalu, Ilangovan, Krishnasamy, Thirunavukarasar, Peter Alphonse, Sellakumar, S.D, Nedunchezhiyan.

Ruby Manoharan has been made the Treasurer of the party. 32 new Vice Presidents have been appointed, including Nase Ramachandran, Balaraman, Gopanna, DN Muruganantham, Sorna Sethuraman, Damodaran and Vijayan.

57 people have been appointed as General Secretaries, including Selvam, Chiranjeevi, Thanikachalam, Rangapashyam, Vasantharaj, Janshirani, Kopi and Kandeepan. Among them, u Thirunavukkarasar’s son ST Ramachandran, KV Thangkabalu’s son Karthik Thangkabalu and EVKS Elangovan’s son Thirumagan EVR, actor Vijay Vasanth, son of late Vasantha Kumar  have also been given posts.

Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram who did not get any post said in a tweet that these appointments serve no purpose and that none of them will have any authority.

However, TNCC president KS Alagiri justified appointing sons of family members saying that they have been engaged in party works for a long time.

After T.M. Krishna, singer Chinmayi comes out in support of ‘accomplished poet and writer’ who called Brahmins di*ks

In a classic case of irony dying a thousand deaths, playback singer Chinmayi Sripada and ‘Carnatic vocalist’ T.M. Krishna extended solidarity to ‘writer-activist’ Meena Kandasamy who called Brahmins ‘di*ks’.

On December 27, The Commune published an article that elaborated on the rhetoric peddled in The News Minute’s eulogy piece on E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker (known as ‘Periyar’ by his followers) in which ‘writer-activist’ Meena, VCK MP Ravikumar and DMK functionary Salma were quoted.

Responding to The Commune’s article, the ‘accomplished poet and writer’ went on a rant flaunting her credentials and making vitriolic comments targeting a particular community by calling them ‘di*ks’.

She had also abused another ‘neutral’ political commentator taking a dig at his Brahmin origins. She also went on to ask if there are any Brahmin women who have achieved what she has at 36 following which many netizens on Twitter several condemned the language of the ‘accomplished writer and poet’ while addressing the point she had raised in her tweet.

These tweets had created a storm with many lashing out at the ‘accomplished poet and writer’ for her vile tweets.

With her tweet on Brahmin women drawing the ire of several netizens, the ‘accomplished poet and writer’ locked her account playing victim card only to make it public again after getting called out.

Following this episode, noted journalist and documentary filmmaker Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj revealed in a series of tweets that in 2014, Meena Kandasamy filed a case against her former husband and alleged that she was trying to extort money from her husband. Subsequently the ‘writer-activist’s’ ex-husband Gunasekharan Dharmaraja issued a press release in which he raised questions about her Dalit origins adding that her mother belongs to a forward caste and her father a member of the Other Backward Caste (OBC). He alleged that Meena Kandasamy had been trying to extort money from him to withdraw the case slapped against him. He also added that that the ‘writer-activist’ has not been cooperative in court proceedings and has failed to appear before the XVIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court-Saidapet.

The Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI) on Friday (January 1, 2021) issued a statement condemning the “targeting and harassment of ‘writer-activist’ Meena Kandasamy” and said that it stands in solidarity with her while not uttering a word about the derogatory comment made by the ‘acccomplished poet and writer’ on a particular community.

However, in a blind endorsement, T.M. Krishna on December 29 tweeted that though he does not know the context he extended his solidarity to Meena Kandasamy.

In a similar manner, playback singer Chinmayi Sripada on January 2 tweeted that she stood in solidarity with Meena Kandasamy.

Like T.M. Krishna, she too was not aware of the context at all.

Later, when a Twitter user explained her about the issue, Chinmayi even went on to justify Meena Kandasamy’s vile tweet saying “She was allowed her anger” and that Meena’s abuses were “pretty civil” in nature.

Now, several have called out Chinmayi for being insensitive and trying to virtue signal.

Indu Makkal Katchi (IMK) in response to Chinmayi’s tweet asked if whether men can start supporting lyricist Vairamuthu who has been accused of sexual harassment by the singer.

COVID-19 Vaccine dry run held across India

The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan today visited two mock vaccination sites in Delhi to review the dry run drill for administering the COVID19 vaccine.

He first visited the GTB Hospital in Shahdara and later an Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) in Daryaganj.

Ahead of the actual vaccination drive, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today conducted a nationwide mock drill at 285 session sites to test the end-to-end planned operations and the mechanism that has been set up to ensure smooth conduct of the COVID19 vaccination that is expected to begin soon.

This dry run of the vaccination drive spread across 125 districts is covering all States/UTs having adequate representation of urban and rural districts along with hard-to-reach areas.

Expressing his satisfaction at the preparations at the GTB Hospital, Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “The entire exercise of the vaccination process is being systematically taken forward, including training of personnel for administering the vaccine. Detailed guidelines have been issued to multiple stakeholders after extensive deliberations, paying attention to each and every minute aspect.”

The Union Minister appreciated the tireless efforts being made by multiple stakeholders including the central and state government officials who have worked proactively in the last few months to ensure the success of this humongous operation.

Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the digital platform, Co-WIN, repurposed from the e-VIN platform is the real game changer, and will provide real time information of vaccine stocks, their storage temperature and individualized tracking of beneficiaries of the COVID-19 vaccine. This unique platform will assist the program managers across all levels through automated session allocation for pre-registered beneficiaries, their verification and for generating a digital certificate upon successful completion of the vaccine schedule. More than 75 lakh beneficiaries have been registered on Co-WIN platform till date, he said.

Speaking on the preparedness for ensuring that the vaccine reaches even the remotest corner of the country, Dr Vardhan said that the country’s cold chain infrastructure has been sufficiently upgraded to ensure last mile delivery. Adequate supplies of syringes and other logistics have also been provided for.

Dr Harsh Vardhan warned the citizens against falling prey to rumours and disinformation campaigns regarding the safety and efficacy of the COVID19 vaccine. He rubbished the rumours being propagated on social media which are raising doubts in the mind of the public regarding the vaccine side-effects. He urged the media to exercise caution and to behave responsibly and check all facts before publishing or broadcasting any reports.

Dispelling doubts regarding the country’s capability to undertake such a massive vaccination drive, Dr Harsh Vardhan described how India has unparalleled experience in dealing with immunization and runs one of the largest immunization programs in the world. He noted that India has been applauded by the world for its robust Universal Immunization Programs. He said India has conducted several successful immunization drives with respect to Polio, Rubella and Measles. He narrated his personal experience from the early nineties of having galvanized efforts of millions of Indians which eventually led to the eradication of Polio from the country.

“It is as a result of our steadfastness and dedication, that India was declared polio-free in 2014.  Our rich learning from the earlier immunisation drives including the Polio vaccination campaign is being used to guide our present countrywide COVID19 vaccination campaign”, he stated.

At the UPHC in Daryaganj, Dr Harsh Vardhan reiterated his earlier assurance regarding the safety, efficacy and immunogenicity of the COVID19 vaccine. He reiterated that the Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. Replying to a question he stated that “I have ample personal experience from the Polio Eradication campaign of 1994 about how the people of the country placed their trust in the science of the vaccine rather than the falsehoods and canards being spread by some rumour-mongers”.

The Minister said that the entire operational planning and IT platform has been field tested in four states on 28th & 29th December 2020; and on the basis of feedback received, certain enhancements have been made in the system. All the State & District officials have been thoroughly trained for conducting this dry-run that is aimed at testing the laid-out mechanisms for COVID-19 vaccine roll-out. This dry run will end with review meetings at district and state level to discuss the issues and challenges encountered during the exercise. States/UTs have been requested to share the feedback with MoHFW which will be analyzed for ironing out any glitches in the final execution and further refinement of the operational procedures.

Dr Harsh Vardhan also emphasized that India’s proactive and pre-emptive steps have been commended across the world. He noted that under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has exhibited an iron-strong political will in adopting an approach encompassing efficient surveillance and testing, leading to the highest recovery and among the lowest fatality rates in the world.

Spat between Vadagalais and Thengalais lead to stopping of temple rituals at Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal Temple

The temple administration of the Kanchipuram Varadaraja Perumal Temple has announced that there will be no more ‘Utsavams‘ (temple festivals) at the temple and that only the Thiruvarathana Puja will be held.

This comes after constant bickering between the ‘Vadagalai’ and the ‘Thengalai’ sub-sects of the Iyengar sect over the singing of ‘Paasurams‘.

But both the sub-sects have been at logger heads for more than 110 years over who has the first rights to perform pooja and recite mantras at the Varadharaja Perumal Temple. The situation went out of hands when the Vadagalai and Thengalai sections exchanged blows during a temple procession.

In February 2020, the Madras High Court had passed an order that provided guidelines for the Vadagalais and Thengalais to sing the ‘Paasurams‘. The court observed that the Thengalai sect would commence the first two lines of the Srisaila Dayapathram slokas following which the Vadagalai sect will commence the first two lines of Sri Ramanuja Dayapathram sloka. Both the sects shall be permitted to recite Prabandhams together.

However, when the deity was taken for procession on the seventh day of the ‘Iraapatthu’ festival that happened yesterday (January 1), the ‘Vadagalai’  and ‘Thengalai’ sub-sects once again engaged in a spat over the singing of ‘Paasurams‘. The police had to intervene to bring the situation under control.

In light of this, the temple administration announced that no more festivals will be held at the Varadaraja Perumal temple as clashes between the Vadagalai and Thengalai sub-sects continue to occur during the processions. It has now stated that processions will happen only after both the sub-sects seek a court order.

Tamil Nadu police arrest Christian pastor after he keeps corpse of police constable in the house for days to ‘resurrect’ her

Dindigul police have arrested two individuals, including a Christian pastor named Sudarsanam, on Thursday in connection to the death of a 38-year-old woman.

The woman, identified as Annai Indra, was a police constable at the All Women Police Station in Dindigul. Her huband Palraj lived in Pattiveeranpatti. She and her husband had separated two years ago, as her husband was opposed to her conversion to Christianity. As a result, she had deserted him and started living in a rented house in Nandavanapatti Treasury Colony with their two daughters, her sister Vasuki and Pastor Sudarsanam.

Indra had gone on a long leave since November 16. However, a couple of months ago, Indra had applied for voluntary retirement citing reasons of ill-health. When the cops went to serve her the order on Wednesday, they discovered a foul smell at her house. Further investigations under the directions of senior officers revealed that Indra had died on December 7. Her decaying body, covered with a cloth, was found in the house.

Indra’s sister and daughters claimed that Indra was ‘sleeping’ and that she would ‘wake up’ soon. Her family reportedly kept her corpse in the house under the belief that she would ‘resurrect’ from the dead.

The police has initiated an investigation into the case. A post-mortem examination was conducted on the spot due to the decayed nature of the corpse. The cops booked pastor Sudarsanam and the woman’s sister Vasuki under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 176 (Omission to give notice or information to public servant), 304A (causing death by negligence), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating). Pastor Sudarsanam who has been arrested is suspected to be the brain behind Indra’s conversion to Christianity.

The body has been sent to the Government Hospital for further examination.

Andhra Pradesh: More cases of temple vandalism come to light

Following the appalling desecration of a murti of Shri Rama at a temple in Ramateertham, Andhra Pradesh, more such incidents of desecration have occurred and have come to light.

On Friday morning, priests of the Vigneshwara temple in Sriramnagar in Rajahmundry found the two arms of the vigraha of Lord Subrahmanya severed. The culprits remain unidentified. Rajahmundry is in the same East Godavari district as Antarvedi, where the decades old wooden chariot of Lakshminarasimha Swamy was burned down under mysterious circumstances in September. Here too, the culprits remain unidentified.

Another case of temple desecration has occurred at the Komalamma Temple near Vantlamamidi near Paderu, in Vishakhapatnam district. Miscreants damaged the feet of the deity Komalamma in a temple adjacent to the famous Modakondamma temple. Devotees who went there on Friday morning to have darshan of Komalamma’s padalu (feet) on the occasion of the New Year were shocked to find the feet damaged.

According to local tradition, devotees first offer prayers to Modakondamma and then seek blessings from her younger sister Komalamma. Modakondamma is one of the prominent deities of the Paderu region. Believed to be the shakti-peetham of the region, lakhs of Hindus participate in the festival held in honour of the deity every summer.

Efforts are on to identify people who vandalised the Komalamma temple, senior police officials said.

However, opposition parties are accusing the Reddy government of a disregard towards Hindu traditions and institutions which, they say, is encouraging such hateful crimes. “Attacks on temples has become a daily occurrence, because of the government’s indifference. Neither the public nor the gods inside the temple are safe in the state. Matters would not have come this far if stern action was taken in the first such case. The government has the responsibility to safeguard the sentiments of all communities,” former CM Chandrababu Naidu remarked while condemning the Rajahmundry incident on Friday.

Andhra Pradesh BJP chief Somu Veerraju warned that his party would intensify its agitation if the YSRCP government fails further in arresting the culprits and putting a stop to the temple vandalism.

There have been unabated acts of vandalism and desecration at several temples across the southern state of Andhra Pradesh since January last year. This has left the Hindu devotees and organisations distraught and enraged.

DMK MP threatens to put critics behind bars once party comes to power

DMK MP from Dharmapuri Dr. Senthilkumar threatened to put popular YouTuber Maridhas and political commentator Kishore K Swamy behind bars once the party comes to power.

On January 2, the DMK MP took a jibe at Maridhas who following Rajinikanth’s announcement to quit politics, issued a statement saying that he was taking a sabbatical as he felt ‘tired’ and needed some rest and peace to sort out further scheme of things. In response to this, Senthilkumar said “You are already saying ‘you are tired’, ‘you need rest’. How fair is it? The game has not even begun. It is from now that ‘special’ legal incidents are about to start”.

Maridhas is a vocal critic of the DMK has been facing cases filed against him by the party. He is known for exposing the unholy nexus between prominent Tamil mainstream media journalists and the DK, DMK, Communist groups in Tamil Nadu. In August 2019, the DMK  filed cases under section 505 (2) of IPC [Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report] and Information Technology Act for his video “Should DMK be banned“, that was critical of the party.

Political commentator Kishore K Swamy in response to this threat put out a tweet that he would be even more ruthless than Maridhas in criticizing DMK and its chief M.K. Stalin and challenged the DMK MP to do whatever he can.

To this, the DMK MP responded saying “You have waited for these many days. Just a few more days left. You will be given the ‘first respects’ in the legal actions that will be taken. Do not have any doubt in that. You are number one in the list”.

Speaking to The Commune, Kishore K Swamy said that this response from the DMK MP does not surprise him and added that it is a party of the thugs, by the thugs and for the thugs. “This threat was not just for me. It is a warning to the people of Tamil Nadu that this is what they will do if anyone raises their voice against the party and their leader. We all saw what happened to the lady who questioned Stalin today. This is a party of rowdies.”, Kishore said.

In a related incident, DMK MP Senthilkumar while addressing party rally on December 16 said that, first priority will be given to party cadres in all schemes and loan waivers, if the party comes to power in 2021.

India, Pakistan exchange list of nuclear installations

On Friday, India and Pakistan conducted the yearly practice of exchanging lists of their nuclear installations under a bilateral agreement that prohibits the two nations from attacking each other’s nuclear facilities.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office (FO) at Islamabad, the exchange of the lists was made in conformity with Article 2 of the Agreement on Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between India and Pakistan, which was signed on December 31, 1988. Under this agreement, both countries inform each other of their nuclear facilities on January 1 of ever year. This has been done every year since January 1, 1992, according to the FO.

“The list of nuclear installations and facilities in Pakistan was officially handed over to a representative of the Indian High Commission at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, at 1100 hrs (PST). The Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi handed over the list of Indian Nuclear installations and facilities to a representative of the Pakistan High Commission at 1130 hrs (IST)”, said the statement.

Tensions have been rife between the two nations since the Pulwama terror attack on February 14, 2019 and the subsequent surgical strikes on terrorist camps within Pakistan by the Indian Air Force. Following the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and the state’s split into the two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on August 5, 2019, Pakistan downgraded diplomatic relations with India and expelled the Indian High Commissioner.
