Third, Each One- Save One, meaning I should wear mask and save myself and others. This should be stressed.

Finally, society and people should lead in creating ‘micro containment zones’. Centre takes steps to ensure easy access to Remdesivir

fake coronavirus vaccines

India is witnessing a recent surge in COVID cases. As on 11.04.2021, there are 11.08 lakh active COVID cases and they are steadily increasing. This has led to a sudden spike in demand for Injection Remdesivir used in treatment of COVID patients. There is a potential of further increase in this demand in the coming days.

Seven Indian companies are producing Injection Remdesivir under voluntary licensing agreement with M/s. Gilead Sciences, USA. They have an installed capacity of about 38.80 lakh units per month.

In light of the above, Government of India has prohibited the exports of Injection Remdesivir and Remdesivir Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) till the situation improves.

In addition, Government of India has taken the following steps to ensure easy access of hospital and patients to Remdesivir:

1. All domestic manufactures of Remdesivir have been advised to display on their website, details of their stockists/distributors to facilitate access to the drug.

2. Drugs inspectors and other officers have been directed to verify stocks and check their malpractices and also take other effective actions to curb hoarding and black marketing. The State Health Secretaries will review this with the Drug Inspectors of the respective States/UTs.

3. The Department of Pharmaceuticals has been in contact with the domestic manufacturers to ramp up the production of Remdesivir.

The Government of India has also advised the States that the extant  “National Clinical Management Protocol for COVID-19″, which is based on evidence, has been developed after many interactions by Committee of Experts, and is the guiding document for treatment of Covid-19 patients.  In the Protocol, Remdesivir is listed as an Investigational Therapy, i.e. where informed and shared decision making is essential, besides taking note of contra indications  mentioned  in the  detailed guidelines.

The States and UTs have been advised that these steps should again be communicated to all hospitals, both in public and private sector, and compliance monitored.

investigation. Credits: Mustafa Shaikh.

The NIA on Sunday arrested police officer Riyaz Kazi in connection with the case of an explosives-laden SUV found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence. Kazi is an associate of suspended Mumbai cop Sachin Waze.

“Assistant police inspector (API) Kazi was called for questioning again by the NIA on Sunday and later placed under arrest,” a police official said.

Kazi was previously questioned several times by the NIA in connection with the case of the explosives-laden SUV found on February 25 near Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani’s multi-storied residence ”Antilia” in south Mumbai, and the subsequent death of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran. Hiran, who was in possession of the SUV, was found dead in a creek in Thane on March 5.

Riyaz Kazi had been shunted out of the Mumbai Crime Branch last month, the official said.

Kazi was produced before a holiday court in Mumbai after his arrest. The court remanded him in the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) custody till April 16 for further investigations into the case.

The NIA told the court that he was arrested for destroying evidence and that he is involved in the conspiracy of the case along with Waze, the main accused in the case.

While seeking his remand for 10 days, the prosecution said that when the NIA started conducting a parallel probe soon after the explosives-laden vehicle was found, the accused allegedly killed Hiran fearing that he will disclose their plan. The prosecution also submitted that Kazi was well aware of the crime.

After the case was transferred to the central agency, the accused started destroying evidences like CPU and DVR and others, the NIA told the court.

Kazi’s custody is required to confront him with every recovered article, documents and witnesses. Waze has given half the facts and Kazi’s interrogation is required to find out under whose instructions he destroyed the material evidence, the NIA submitted.

The NIA also said that Riyaz Kazi also needs to be interrogated about the source of the gelatin sticks that were found in the SUV.

Opposing the remand plea, Kazi’s lawyer, Hasnain Kazi, argued that his client was not involved in the destruction of evidence.

The accused has been going to the NIA office for interrogation since the last twenty days and has been co-operating with the investigation; hence his custody was not required, the lawyer said.

After hearing both the sides, the judge remanded the accused to NIA’s custody till April 16.

According to the police, CCTV footage shows Kazi entering a number plates shop in suburban Vikhroli and having a conversation with the outlet’s owner. He was also seen taking away a digital video recorder and a computer from the shop. Kazi was also seen collecting CCTV footage from Waze’s housing complex in Thane, the official said.

The probe agency suspects that Kazi assisted Waze in obtaining fake number plates used for the SUV that was used to plant explosives near Ambani’s residence in south Mumbai.

The NIA arrested Waze on March 13 in connection with its probe into the case. The probe agency had also arrested former policeman Vinayak Shinde and cricket bookie Naresh Gor.

All the three are currently in judicial custody.

EVR fought “Sanatana Dharma” − a toxic ideology, says P. Chidambaram

In series of tweets condemning BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, Congress leader P.Chidambaram said, “I strongly condemn the statement of a BJP leader and a Member of Parliament that the BJP has come here to eradicate ‘Periyarism’ (Periyar policy) in Tamil Nadu. Periyar was the one who fought and won against the poisonous policy of ‘Sanatana Dharma’ . Why hasn’t the ADMK, which claims to be a Dravidian party, condemned the BJP MP’s speech? Has  EPS-OPS duo accepted Narendra Modi as their leader and mentor instead of  Periyar?”

In his comments section, netizens questioned his understanding of ‘Sanatana Dharma’ which simply means ‘eternal’.

Anti-Hindu groups, Christian missionaries, and Islamic fundamentalists have been seen using the term ‘Sanatana Dharama’ instead of Hinduism to indirectly criticize Hinduism.

It’s worth noting that EVR, a former member of the Indian National Congress, left the party complaining that it practices discrimination in the ‘Cheranmaadevi Gurukulam,’ which was funded by the party.

Petitioner in Kashi Vishwanath temple−Gyanvapi mosque case receives death threats

Kashi Vishwanath temple Gyanvapi mosque

A petitioner in the Kashi Vishwanath temple−Gyanvapi mosque dispute has received a threat to his life, after which he has been provided security, police said on Saturday.

Harihar Pandey has been provided security on the orders of Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh. Pandey said that when he reached home after a fast-track court order in the case on Thursday, he received a call from an unknown number.

He claimed that the person gave his name as Yasin and said, “Pandeyji, you have won the case but will not be able to enter the archaeologically surveyed temple. You and your colleagues will be killed.”

The police are conducting further investigations on the matter.

A Varanasi court on Thursday had ordered that an archaeological survey of the Kashi Vishwanath temple and the Gyanvapi mosque premises be conducted. In its order, the court asked the Uttar Pradesh government to bear the expenses of the archaeological survey and constitute a five-member team of reputed archaeologists to oversee the dig and examine the unearthed material remains. At least two of the members of this committee have to be from the minority community, the court had ruled.

The plea in the case had contended that the mosque in Varanasi was built after the demolition of the temple by the Mughal Aurangzeb, and the land the mosque currently stands on is a part of the temple complex and thus must be handed back to the Hindu community.

Two Christian nurses booked under blasphemy laws in Pakistan

Pakistan Christian

Two Christian nurses have been charged with blasphemy in the Punjab province of Pakistan, following a complaint by hospital authorities, police said. Locals and employees of the hospital where the nurses work also staged demonstrations against the duo demanding strict action against them.

According to the police, an FIR has been registered against the two nurses, Mariyum Lal and Newish Arooj, working in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Faisalabad, on Friday, based on a complaint filed by Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Mohammad Ali.

In Pakistan, false accusations of blasphemy are widespread and often motivated by personal vendettas or religious hatred of minorities like Hindus or Christians. Accusations are highly inflammatory and have the potential to spark mob lynching.

The nurses are accused of removing the stickers inscribed with Islamic verses from the wall of a hospital ward where psychiatric patients are being treated.

Deputy Medical Superintendent Ali claimed that blasphemy charges have been proved against the two nurses by the hospital committee which probed the matter. He said that the stickers inscribed with Islamic verses that were removed by the two nurses is in the possession of the head nurse of the hospital.

Hospital employees staged a demonstration against the two nurses and demanded strict action against them. Local Muslim clerics also joined the protesters.

Some of the protesters also attacked the police van parked inside the hospital to get the custody of one of the nurses but the police locked her inside the vehicle to keep her safe from the mob. According to a police official, anti-riot police were called in to handle the situation.

“As the mob had surrounded the police van demanding handing over the nurse to them, more force was called in to push back the protesters. After managing to disperse the mob by using a water cannon, police succeeded in moving the nurse from the hospital premises,” the official said, adding that the other nurse had already managed to leave the hospital.

Head Nurse has a grudge against them, alleges Christian organisation

Reacting to the development, the International Christian Concern (ICC) said both the Christian nurses have falsely been accused of committing blasphemy.

It alleged that the head nurse, Rukhsana, had a grudge against Mariyum Lal and she provoked other Muslim staffers of the hospital, claiming she desecrated wall hangings and a sticker that contained Quranic verses.

“In response, a Muslim staffer, Waqas, attacked Ms. Lal with a knife as she was attending a patient in the hospital’s medical ward. She received several injuries to her arm but survived the attack,” it alleged.

Pakistan’s controversial blasphemy laws and their prescribed punishments are considered extremely severe. People accused of blasphemy are usually deprived of the right to a counsel of their choice as most lawyers refuse to take up such sensitive cases.

The blasphemy laws are colonial-era legislation but they were amended by former dictator General Zia-ul-Haq, increasing the severity of prescribed punishments.
