Ever since the DMK formed the government in Tamil Nadu, the Finance Minister Dr. P Thiaga Rajan has been opposing the move to bring Petrol and Diesel products under GST. However, a recent interview has revealed that PTR’s statement is not the opinion of the DMK government.
In an interview with Thanthi TV, Lok Sabha MP, and treasurer of DMK, T R Baalu has said that DMK is in favour of bringing Petrol and Diesel products under GST. When the interviewer further asks him about the Finance Minister’s statement, he says that it is the opinion of the individual and not the opinion of the party on the whole. When asked how a Minister’s opinion can be considered as individual opinion, T R Baalu says that DMK has always been in favour of this move because it will help reduce the prices.
In a Press Meet, Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai has highlighted this double standard of the DMK government. He asks whose words from the DMK party should actually be considered? A Lok Sabha MP or the Finance Minister of the State? He also reiterates that only Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have been opposing this move and that if a clarity is provided from DMK’s side, it would be easier to bring the Petro products under GST.
