300 million doses of Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine to be produced in India

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) in an interview to Rossiya 24 TV channel has said, India will produce about 300 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in 2021.

“In India, we have agreements with four large manufacturers. India will produce about 300 million doses or more of the vaccine for us next year,” Dmitriev was quoted saying in the, Russian news agency Tass. 

In the quest to manufacture Sputnik V, RDIF looked at 110 production sites, however, after an extensive search, RDIF has chosen 10 that meet its requirements. “The Russian Sputnik V will be actively produced in the world and we see that this is built on a safe platform based on the human adenovirus,” Dmitriev said.

Russia was the first country in the world to register Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine as the drug passed clinical trials in June-July and post-registration studies began in Moscow on 7 September, subsequently volunteers received the first vaccine on 9 September.

On 11 August, Russia was the first country in the world to register Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine. The drug passed clinical trials in June-July.

Dmitriev also added that production of Sputnik V began in other countries, in particular in India, Korea, Brazil and China.
