Brick kiln owners in Kaniyambadi staged a protest alleging that functionaries of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam were threatening them and demanding monthly extortion payments.
According to the protesters, TVK union secretary Vijayakumar, along with party functionaries Lokesh and Easwaran, had allegedly been demanding ₹1 lakh every month from brick kiln owners operating in the area.

A complaint had already been submitted at the local police station seeking action against the three TVK functionaries. Protesters insisted that the police should immediately register an FIR based on the complaint and initiate arrest proceedings against those accused.
The demonstrators also demanded that the alleged intimidation and extortion attempts against brick kiln owners be stopped immediately.
The protest in Kaniyambadi created tension in the area as kiln owners continued to press authorities for legal action and protection from alleged threats.
