Varanasi Court Postpones Verdict On Plea Seeking Carbon Dating Of Disputed ‘Shivling’ In Gyanvapi Mosque

Earlier today, the Varanasi District Court announced a postponement to the eagerly awaited verdict on permission to allow a scientific carbon dating of a disputed structure with the Gyanvapi mosque complex.

The bench stated that the verdict would be pronounced on Tuesday, October 11 at 2 pm.

The structure in question, found inside the Gyan Vyapi mosque complex, is claimed to be a ‘Shivling’ by the Hindu side and a mere fountain , by the Muslims. The Muslim side had been opposing the Hindu side’s request for a scientific carbon dating of the structure, in question.

During the September 29th hearing of the case, advocate Vishnu Jain, representing the Hindu side, had requested a scientific investigation into the claimed Shivling inside the mosque complex, by the Archaeological Survey of India.
