In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of anger across the region, two engineering students have been arrested for the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old seventh-grade student near Chengalpattu, close to Kalpakkam.
According to police sources, the minor girl had stepped out to relieve herself behind her house on the morning of 22 June 2026 when she was waylaid by the accused. The perpetrators, identified as Maheshwaran (20) and Ajay (27), allegedly forcibly restrained the child, gagged her with a cloth, and dragged her to the terrace of her own residence, where they subjected her to the brutal assault.
When the girl failed to return home, her parents grew anxious and began a frantic search. They discovered her in a traumatized state on the terrace. The father, deeply shocked by the scene, immediately rushed her to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital for emergency medical care and subsequently filed a formal complaint at the Mamallapuram All Women’s Police Station.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, alongside relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Both accused, who are college students, were taken into custody later that day. They have since been produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.
