A controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu after the father of TVK Minister Prabhu was seen inspecting an ongoing government project in Karaikudi in Sivaganga district along with party functionaries, drawing criticism from various quarters over the alleged exercise of authority without holding any official position.
The controversy centres around an inspection of the construction of an underground sewerage treatment plant near Karaikudi. According to reports, the Minister’s father, accompanied by TVK functionaries, visited the project site, inspected the ongoing work, and sought explanations from government officials regarding the progress of the project.
A video of the visit, purportedly showing the Minister’s father inspecting the government project and interacting with officials, has since gone viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism.
The incident has raised questions over the basis on which a person holding no official government position was permitted to inspect a public infrastructure project and seek explanations from officials overseeing the work.
The alleged inspection by the Minister’s father and the participation of TVK functionaries in reviewing the government project have drawn condemnation from several quarters, with critics questioning the propriety of the incident and whether individuals without any statutory or administrative authority should be involved in reviewing government works.
