TN: Girl studying in Christian school attempts suicide due to sexual harassment by Karate master

A 12th standard girl attempted suicide unable to bear sexual harassment by a Karate master at the school she studies in. The Correspondent and Karate master of a Christian school, which is being run using FCRA funds, were arrested by the Police under the POCSO Act. The school has been functioning along with an orphanage with funding from UK for many years now.

The victim, the daughter of a Headmaster of a Salem government school, tried to hang herself after cutting her wrists, unable to bear the sexual harassment. She was fortunately saved by her parents, but still did not open up about the reason behind her suicide attempt. After counseling, she was more open to talk about it and revealed that she was being sexually assaulted by her school’s Karate Master for the past 4 years.

The girl who studies in Gnana Deepam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, complained to her class teacher and Correspondent the first time she was harassed when she was just 13 years old. However, the correspondent Stephen Devaraj asked her to remain silent. The girl has confessed everything and Stephen Devaraj and Raja have been booked under POCSO Act.

Upon coming to know of her suffering, parents and relatives of the girl caught Raja themselves and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The school is being run using foreign funds from the United Kingdom. Bethesda Project in Dorset, UK funds the operation of this school and an orphanage.
