
A 30-year-old man from Tirunelveli district was arrested by the police for allegedly posting defamatory remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on social media, as reported in Dinamalar.
The accused, identified as James from the Munneerpallam area in Tirunelveli district, was alleged to have uploaded defamatory content targeting the Chief Minister on social media platforms. A complaint was also raised accusing him of making defamatory verbal remarks against Vijay.
According to police sources, a video uploaded by James allegedly contained abusive and obscene language directed at the Chief Minister.
Following the complaint, the Palayamkottai Police registered a case against him under four sections and initiated an investigation.
After the inquiry, police arrested James, produced him before a court, and remanded him to judicial custody.
Investigators said James is a computer engineering graduate and had previously worked for several companies, including Apple Inc.
Police sources further stated that he had been posting videos expressing support for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and criticism of Chief Minister Vijay.
News18 Tamil Nadu reported that he had reportedly undergone treatment for mental health-related issues at a hospital a few years ago and later resumed work as a software engineer after being discharged.
