Thanjavur DMK MP Palanimanickam Declared Worst Performing MP

The Prime Point Foundation has been studying and reporting on the work and performance of the members of Parliament. Every year, the organization presents the Sansad Ratna Award to a Member of Parliament who has done outstanding work in the parliament based on the number of debates attended, starred and unstarred questions asked, attendance, and other criteria.

The Prime Point Foundation has published a ranking of parliamentarians for the budgetary year 2022-23. Dr. Senthil Kumar, a DMK MP, was ranked 17th overall and first among Tamil Nadu MPs, with 453 points.

However, DMK MP SS Palanimanickam of Thanjavur constituency has performed poorly and is ranked as India’s worst-performing MP.

For the period 01-06-2019 to 23-12-2022, SS Palanimanickam of DMK has only 43% attendance when the national and state averages are 79% and 74% respectively.

He has only participated in four debates, whereas the national average is 39.7% and the state average is 45.3%.

DMK MP SS Palanimanickam has raised no questions in parliament, despite the fact that the average number of questions raised by an MP is 156 and the state average is 189. He also never introduced a private member’s bill in parliament.
